I am running into problems with the import function. I have 25 photos loaded into the import folder. The page see all of the photos. But after I click on the import process it takes me Picture Manager with no pictures loaded. I have hit the refresh button, but there is nothing there. dr_bones38394.676412037, ok... lets forget about all this redirecting business for a minute
when I go to "GP01.asp" directly via your web site I get a big nasty error that says this
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0411'
Name redefined
/protect/config_inc.asp, line 15 Dim Address_Required,CDONTS_Installed,City_Required,Registration _Type,VerifyURL,Log_Off_Page
----^
then when I look at what you did in that file I see why
you have this code which is totally wrong because you cannot include the password protection file twice <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% GROUPACCESS = "*1*" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
it should be <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<% GROUPACCESS = "*1*" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> and that is probably the root of this entire problem.. the redirection was working... but you were sending them to invalid pages with errors
all those pages are wrong... if you dont see the real error above see this http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo11-1.htm
if you look over the aspprotect 7 installation instructions that is the very 1st thing I tell people to do
hopefully this is the info you need to continue and get some work done ,
"get_me_in.asp" just hangs during a new install. Nothing happens no matter how long you wait and IIS may temporarily hang up as well.
You may very well be running something like norton antivirus with norton script blocker on your server? Or something similar?
It can cause issues when ASP uses the filesystem object and cause never ending page hangs like you are having.
Read this.. http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2180, Your actually confusing me with the whole "joe bloe" thing and user access. I just do not get what you are trying to tell me. Perhaps you can explain in a less confusing way. Your just not technically explaining it andand thats what I need to know to possibly help.
As for the subweb thing you just can not do that. Subwebs have their own sets of application and session variables. An ASPProtect installation and any pages you protect with it are required to be in the same "application" in IIS. Sicne subwebs have their own "applications" in IIS that won't work. It is the nature of "forms based authentication" A sub web is alo considered by our licensing to be a seperate web site and ASPProtect is licensed per web site.
As for breaking pages.. you really shouldnt be editing any pages in the admin area as you will break them unles you are very good with ASP. (does not sound like you are..no offense meant at all)
Pages in the "users" folder are less complex and it is usually ok to edit them carefully. http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/common_sense.asp
Pages of your own that you password protect can still be edited in your usualy way though without effecting anything.
Truth is if you back things up before you start editing how can you go wrong ? That's how you learn. , Its not on their end. Using ASP alone you really won't be able to send more than around 300-400 individuals emails at a time before things will time out. Its just that ASP is not an efficient way of sending email and it never will be.
You really should look into worldcast like I mentioned before. http://www.fairlogic.com/worldcast/
Then just export the email list from the database into worldcast and send out the newsletters.
You will get much better results and perfect newsletters and it really only takes a little bit longer to do each time once you figure it out. That is how I send out my PowerASP and CJWSoft newsletters and it works perfectly every time. , Unfortunatley, I dont have an easy answer for you. It is certainly doable but adjusting the code so people assigned to certain groups get specific expiration dates means a lot of code work and time. It would probably even take me a long time to figure out.
The fact that users can belong to more than one group also greatly complicats the whole idea.
You can certainly assign an expiration level when someone signs up. That is easy and explained in the forums. , Is there an easy way to make this work with reoccurring a monthly or yearly subscription? , "do you know a way around the BinaryRead problem with ASPProtect?"
Let me rephrase:
Do you know a way in which ASPProtect can be modified to get around the BinaryRead problem?
Thanks,
Michelle
, well, so far one other guy found one..
his, was some sort of weird character that was causing a line break or something though in my testing I just couldnt figure out what was going on
now for me to reproduce any error someone find with a password I need to know the key used and the password used
which make it real hard to troubleshoot , You really should check out the documentation regarding the config file before you go any farther.
If the server supports ASP.NET you do not have to spend any money to have real fast loading thumbnails.
Also, licenses of ASPImage only cost 69.95 and regardless any quality host supporting ASP should have one of the 3 supported resizing components installed or else you should consider a better host like www.alentus.com Places like that have good hosting prices and give you access to 3000.00 worth of 3rd party asp components.
, when I go to that url is seems fairly fast and somewhat normal.. even when I try to log in it pops right back up asking for login info again..
I would check to make sure you are not running anything that might be effecting your web browsing.. software firewalls.. ad blockers.. script blockers... norton internet security.. zone alarm... anything like that
they can all effect a lot of things regarding how web browsers act. , Just want to be able to log users in from the home page via a username and password box somewhere say on the left hand side with a login button. Like most sites have.... i cant seem to figure out how to do that with the software.
My other question is..Is there a way to incorporate this software into an event registry? What i mean is this:
Say a company is having a pool party, BBQ, and tennis lessons (just examples)
When a user registers with aspprotect i want him/her to have the option to register for one of the events. Also, I as the admin, would like to be able to view who and how many registered for each event... Here is what i am talking about (and it has a payment option to charge for an event which would be PERFECT if you could do) http://www.cescripts.com/demo/registration/view-events.php
Please let me know if there is a way to add this option or create...
, I really need more information..
SQL or Access database ? If Access are you using the newest version of the .mdb file
Is this a new item ?
Show me your connection string ?
perhaps the url to the site as well so I can look around?
things like that that will help me troubleshoot.
If any info is sensative send me a PM..
, Sorry, I can not provide a date.. I am last person that is organized enough to give any sort of release date on anything.
Could be next week, could be 2 years from now. I made two add-ons this week and they came out of no where. I had no plans to make them. etc etc.. they just happened.
If I told you 2 months from now I know it would not be done and you would be disappopinted so I am not saying anything. I will say if it turns out to be anything complex it will not be a free mod or it will be a feature of a new version., IFRAME is just an client side html thing...
has nothing to do with .NET
will work with any page extension or server side technology
As you see from that compatibilty chart I posted a link to. Nearly every modern browser supports it.
cwilliams38155.4462847222,
Both
the NET and Classic ASP versions of this application are designed for
fine granularity protection of individual apsx extension files.
ASPProtect.NET is not designed or intended to protect sub directories,
or non aspx content such as Adobe Acrobat .pdf files etc etc.
I
completely disagree with your statement that “most sites” have a login
box on the left hand side of the page. I suspect you thinking of the
ever popular php based forums and “Nuke” type CMS systems which are set
up that way but if you look at any site written entirely using .NET
that’s rarely if ever the case. (Granted I cant say for sure because I
personally haven’t looked at >50% of the estimated 18 billion + web
pages on the internet) Just off the top of my head www.CafePress.com
come to mind as a pure .NET site. If you take a look the login button
it takes you to its own login page there is not global login form used
throughout the site. Reason being that .NET introduced this thing
called a “view state” which is used to store things like your session
ID (and way more) and must be posted back to the server in order to
keep track of visitors. This technology comes in especially handy when
you have a web farm in place and your content is being spit out out by
more than one server at the same time
I
can think of loads of scenarios where the web servers need to know who
you are even though you are never directly contacting them via http.
This approach is a very smooth and actually very clever solution for
enterprise level websites that simply can’t be handled with a single
web server.
On
a practical level I know what you are saying but that application sets
up all sorts of things when a protected page is accessed and the user
is not yet authenticated. That’s the entire reason you need to put that
snippet of code at the top of a page you want to protect. That code
snippet calls the ASPProtect.NET class and runs through all the logic
to see if you are able to access the page. If you are the subroutine
exits and the server continues to process the remaining logic on the
page. AKA you are able to access its content. If you are NOT
authenticated ASPProtect will setup all the proper session and
viewstate info and redirect you to the login page for authentication.
You may have also noticed a parameter on the login page called
ReturnURL. The application looks for that info and if you do have a
user ID and password the application automatically redirects you to the
page you were trying to access in the first place.
Really
I have no idea what you are trying to do, but there is a world of
difference in how something looks verses how it works. Lets just say
there was a simple way to do what your thinking, what are you going to
do with that login form after the person logs in? Just keep displaying
it on the entire site so people get confused and don’t know if they are
logged in or not? Just that little part of the equation will require
making some changes to either ASPProtect.NET or your application will
have to have some logic built into it to stop displaying the login
forum.
It
sounds to me like your basically looking for a super simple 101 type
deal that allows people to sign up for an event and you the admin can
see that information? I’m guessing they can also log in again and check
out their details and see what event they signed up for?
If
that’s the case you’re trying to take a very sophisticated protection
application and downgrade it into something that would be one heck of a
lot easier to write all from scratch in about an hour.
Your
not going to be able to “plug and play” a simple form into a page and
turn that application as a magic universal login solution for a
website, while its 100% possible to use the application that way if you
choose, you need to check out the source code and plan your custom
integration accordingly.
, I purchased the ASPGallery Pro last week and still cannot get it running. When I enter www.vickerylightning.com/aspgallery/dataconn_inc.asp on the screen it says "Not a valid bookmark"
Below is the connection string. My hosting company uses server map paths:

Definitely need some assistance!
Rhona (rookie asp) -
, YAY! I FOUND A BUG IN MY TESTING!!! Do I get a cool t-shirt or a coupon for Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream?
Hehehe... seriously, thanks for digging deeper and spotting the error.
You got some mad skillz and some excellent service, Mr. Cwilliams!
, Chris: You are right about a little extra coding to make it work. I am still learning .ASP coding, so I did a little web searching and used IF THEN statments to confirm a member logged in with a valid Access Code. If valid, the protected page executes, with the Member's Name and Access Level on a single line at the top of that page. Looks sharp! If not logged in, or a non member (who found the page via Google), I used a Redirect to send s/he to a login page with optional links as you suggested (http://www.vspa.com/aspprotect/vspa-password-failed.asp) . I couldn't get it to work when using Group Access, but I am sure that is just because I am a novice at .ASP (I will post that example when I figure it out). Meanwhile, here's the code I used that works:
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="dataconn_inc.asp"--> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="config_inc.asp"--> <% =Session("First_Name") %> <% =Session("Last_Name") %>: <% If Session("Access_Level") = "6" Then Response.Write "VSPA Active Member Access Level 6" End If If Session("Access_Level") = "7" Then Response.Write "VSPA Life Member Access Level 7" End If If Session("Access_Level") = "8" Then Response.Write "VSPA Officer/Staff Access Level 8" End If If Session("Access_Level") < "6" Then Response.Write "Access Level 1-6 NOT AUTHORIZED RESTRICTED AREA ACCESS" Response.Redirect("vspa-password-failed.asp") End If %><!-- http://www.vspa.com/aspprotect/vspa-password-enter.asp --> <!-- *** End ASPProtect Code *** --> <html> <head>
, I really can not support it because you made that modification and it probably directly relates to the issue your having.
There are many issues that can be caused when dealing with encryption. Sometimes the encrpted passwords can end up with problematic characters. etc etc Maybe the users are changing there passwords to ones that do that... after you fix them.. Its hard to say
I know as I had to sort things like out when I designed version 7 which has built in encrpytion.
It could be anything really.. since you made changes like you sorta need to figure out what is backfiring. There has to be a reason.
Chris , While my host says the permissions are now correct....its still trying to download the setup ASP file instead of executing it.
I really need to get this application working asap too. I noticed the purchasing page said that install came free.....so any help would reaallly be great.
re , well, you should probably be backing up the SQL database on a regular basis. That is between you and hosting company. If they let you connect via SQL Enterprise Manager you can do backups on your own.
As far as the aspprotect files and folders go back them up somewhere, and then only worry about backing them up again if you change some of the files.
That's really all there is to it. None of the ASPProtect files change on their own except the generated log files that you may or may not care about backing up.
I mean the important thing is the Database, and then of course any your own .asp pages that you protected as well as any custimizations you made to the users area or your site... , It's just a generic error that means one of 1000 different things is wrong.. there is a lot of information on in in these forums as well as links to articles about it.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=27& PN=1
usually it means permissions to the database folder are incorrect or the physical path you are specifying for your dsn-less connection is invalid..
everything has to be perfect
cwilliams38370.5271296296, I have multiple zone banners displayed on a single page using the AspHTTP Component Method.
However, in IE 6.x and NS 7.x each banner has some text displayed before it similar to:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: Microsoft-IIS/5.0 Date: Fri, 17 Sep 2004 07:15:12 GMT MicrosoftOfficeWebServer: 5.0_Pub Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Length: 229 Content-Type: text/html Set-Cookie: ASPSESSIONIDAASSDQBA=HAICCGCANEBEPANCDHLHJJGC; path=/ Cache-control: private
This text does not appear when using Netscape 4.x cwilliams38325.741099537, You kid around again regarding illegal downloads and not only will you be banned from the forums, your support will be cut off completely.
, Hello:
When using the Mass Mail feature and selecting the Users to ‘Active’ and the Access Level I want to send to the system will still send e-mails to the ‘Inactive’ users from the same Access Level.
In other words it sends to everyone in the Access Level regardless if you choose “Active” only.
Any ideas to correct?
Thanks,
-Ricardo , Hi,
First and foremost, a great product. I downloaded it last night and it took little effort to get it up and running
.....now a little question...
Has the software/code been tried out on a Mysql db and if so did it work?
The reason I ask is that my website is very busy (1.5million page views per month avg) and I'm considering converting the ASPBanner Access db to a Mysql one to help handle the traffic. For every page view one banner impression is being made which means that the Access db is under a bit of pressure
This afternoon there were 1012 simultanious users on the website and it froze with an error message displaying where the banner should have been (I didn't quite catch the message but something to do with the banner script timing out). I'm not sure if the Access db had something to do with it but it seemed too coincidental. Rebooting the server cured the problem but obviously kicked off the visistors as well At present there's 668 online and no problems so I'll have to monitor it to see how it goes but if anyone can answer the Mysql question I'd be grateful
Thanks,
Dave , The random password is generated during signup and the function that creates it is located on this page of code.
users/register.asp
it looks like this
Function RndStr(Length, UseChrs) If IsNull(UseChrs) OR (UseChrs = "") Then UseChrs = "0123456789abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz!@#$%^&*()_+=-" NewStr = "" Randomize(CByte(Left(Right(Time(),5),2))) For gpIndex = 1 To Length NewStr = NewStr & Mid(UseChrs, Int((Len(UseChrs)) * Rnd + 1), 1) Next RndStr = NewStr End Function
For example go to this page and hit refresh and watch the password change.
http://www.aspprotect.com/demo2/users/register.asp
Yes, sometimes if you hit refresh quickly over and over you'll get the same password, but not generally. Also that is not something that would happen normally as a user isnt going to sit at that screen and hit refresh over and over.
Anyway... when signing up the new user of course has the option to change that password to something they would like better...
As far as... "selecting the same user name and password every time"
I need more information. That does not make sense for a lot of reasons.
Most importantly because usernames are not generated. The are inputed by the user during signup. They are then checked to ensure they do not already exist before the user is allowed to complete their signup.
So under normal circumstances there can never be duplicate usernames in the system or even users with duplicate emails as that is checked as well.
Now of course if you edited the code in any way it is possible all this is not working correctly ? cwilliams38164.8059143519, ... doesn't seem to be working on my site. I expect I did something wrong.
I've created some groups, "week", "month", and "year". Their IDS are 6, 5, and 4, respectivelty. When someone goes through the PayPal signup, he's assigned to one of those groups based on his subscription.
When I see a new subscriber and check the relevant group the person's supposed to be in, that person's not in that group. I'm adding them manually for now, but I'd sure like a solution for when I go to sleep...
My subscription code looks like this:
input type="hidden" name="custom" value="5,*4*,<% =User_ID %>
One-off code looks like this:
option selected value="7,4.95,1,*6*"
I've created the groups in my management console. Is there anywhere or anything else I'm missing?

Hopefully it keeps doing so. Only time will tell.
It she's stable I can get back to designing some new software. cwilliams38296.9772800926, Yep, thats my thinking as well.
On the test server I have the site connected to a SQL 2000 db with the sa account, so it should have full control. But still no luck.
However, on the test server, I connected to the Access 2002 db and it works fine..adding user, adding categories, adding albums.
Weird
, To finalize this thread.. a target was added to the form by the customer by accident thus causing the situation, Good Morning, any suggestions on how to best "fake out the system" -- I would like to try to keep this clean so I can see the real errors?
My thought was to try to just move those .gif files to the directory that it thinks it should be in -- do you have any better suggestions? Or reasons why I really wouldnt want to do that? , CDOSYS is the way to go usually... My article may shed some light on the different ways to send email using CDOSYS http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/sending_email_cdosys.asp
As for eliminating the registration its pretty much like what you said.. manually remove the links and what not... etc etc and dont send users to the registration pages..
If you dont want people to be able to edit their info ever... or retrieve lost passwords.. you can delete the users folder completely..
though it's probably better to leave some of that stuff and just disable the registration links and page...
The paypal and 2checkout folders can be wiped out completley either way as you won't be using them at all. ,
It worked after bout 15 minutes. I receive a response of *3*
However, when I log in as a user who is only a mamber of group1 I still get a response of *3* , no, that system only works with ASP.NET code.
Currently it can not possibly work with classic asp. PayPal made it a nightmare to use and work with.
Special things regarding the signing of digital certificates also need to be installed on the web server so if it isn't your server your also out of luck. , Christopher
I have gone back to your original files and uploaded them to another server folder and instead of using a DSN I have tried this with a DSN less connection and changed the database to MS Access 2002.
This has corrected the problem. I will check this out again using the DSN with access 2002 to see if this was the problem. It may be something to do with an older format of database on this particular server.
I will let you know what I find.
Thanks for your quick reply. , It is most likely because they have something running like Norton Ad Blocker.
Or something of that nature that blocks anything with certain words in it like "ad"
They are running something that is doing it.cwilliams38450.0079282407, Thanks dude, I'll figure it out. I've been ripping apart pieces
of the code to get it. I'm in the process of pulling some things
out to make functions that do specific tasks based on your code.
I actually had a lot of luck yesterday with it.
