I think I've got it to work somewhat.  I modified the 2checkout1 & 2 asp file to use and pass Product_id.  It now identifies the product correctly.  I'm good fo now. Thanks for the info though.

After turing off the delayed stats feature the internal errors have stopped and it still serves banners, although I havent checked the logs yet. I will and post any errors.

I left my test page up last night at say 11pm serving 4 banners of different sizes rotating every 15 seconds, now at 9am the page is just displaying 1. If I refresh the page they all reappear.

if it is your own XP machine there is no reason you should edit that config file manually.

simply set permissions on the data folder and all the folders in it and the application will write to the config files on its own... if you are having problems chances are you are not setting permissions correctly.. please read all of this

I'm doing an upgrade from an OOOOOOOOOOLD version (not sure if it was 6 or not) and it read my database OK prior to adding a new user. Now I get this error message. I was able to run the password encryption function OK, but I still get this error when I try to view the password_admin stuff. I can log in via the "get_me_in" asp page just fine, but I get the above error.

If I try to log in with my admin account, I get

OK, my question is this... if I retype all the info from the old DB into a brand new one, never before used, that would work, right? I only have 108 users, so that's about an hour of work. Or is there a 5-minute fix that I can try? I've done some messing around that got nowhere and returned all edited files to their original state, with the exceptions of the ones calling the DB location.

On a side note, I really love the new format and am excited about the new features. I'm not married to upgrading the DB and if copy and paste is faster (I just need first name, last name, username, password, email, and expiration date), then I'm using v.7 that much faster.

Yes, that was it! I had not created the banner for that zone yet. Once I did it came up fine. Do I win the Bonehead of the Year award?

I am just implementing the product, and I deleted the included zones instead of renaming them. That is why it is up to 6. I am migrating banners from my current system before I implement the code onto my pages.

If I may, I'd like to ask another question. I use rotation on all pages of my site except for the home page, where the banners are all smaller and static - an advertiser can expect their banner to always be in the same spot on the page.

I am currently hard coding this via html, but then I do not have the ability to collect stats on home page banner clicks, so I want to use ASPBanner. My question is, can I do this without creating a seperate zone for each banner? In other words, is there a way to modify the html code (that works just fine) so that in addition to indicating the zone, it can indicate the specific banner I want to appear? I would then paste the code in each cell of the table, and alter the banner #. If I do this with just the zone, I expect that the page will randomize the position of each banner across the page. Of course ASP.NET is and HAS been installed. I have been running asp.net scripts for years on it. I am not new to asp.net nor setting up the server or anything. ASP.NET is properly installed and works perfectly.

You are missing the fact i mentioned it is a DOMAIN CONTROLLER.

I have come across MANY articles ONLINE via GOOGLE that mention if it is a domain controller, for some reason the aspnet account is not there or gets deleted.

IN ITS PLACE GOES THE IIS_WPG ACCOUNT. IS YOUR SOFTWARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS ACCOUNT?

Is it possible to run ASP.NET scripts without ASP.NET not being installed? Because I have been running asp.net pages without any problem.

If you do not install ASPProtect.NET in the true root of a web there a key in the web config you must adjust.

That is why the option pack has groups which eliminate the need to use access levels because groups can do everything access levels can and more.

We would like to use some of the variables from the user account in our web pages after they log in (something like, 'hello <user>"), but for professional printout reports using company name and user.

The company is called Eschelon - there customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I have contacted them again and they said that they require the account holder to manage permissions, they won't make changes. I wish they would have told me that a week ago when I asked them about changing the permissions. They haven't responded to me yet how I am to do that though.

Frontpage ext. are not installed.

Once I hear back from them about how I connect to manage rights I should be all set.

We do not support customization of the code or any custom coding you may end up doing with Visual Studio.NET. However, if you can show me that the application functions incorrectly in its default unmodified form I can help. If not it has to be something you did most likely.

Though I do not if it is the issue, mixing c# and vb.net in the same project can be tricky if not problematic. It’s definitely just not something I can support.

I would suggest starting with a clean installation. Test everything to make sure the things you say are ok or not. (if not post here about it) Then try your hand at editing the application and compiling it. Keep the c# out of the mix at 1st.

I am not even sure if adding c# to the same project is feasable.
(maybe it is , maybe it isn't)

That being said.. ASPProtect.NET can of course be used to protect pages using c#. But compiling the ASPProtect.NET project with C# code added sounds a bit iffy to me. We wrote the application in VB.NET so you really need to use vb.net when making changes to it.

i will probably end up doing this myself, but dropping all the log data in a sql table would be nice as it offers much more flexibility on how an admin can keep track and use the data. Browsing through each log file is very inconvenient. I can search for text in the files (server-side, others with a shared server would probably have to separately download all log files first), but with the current method I don't have the following important options:

• cannot sort by any criteria
• quickly see a list of all login attempts by a specific user (i need to search each log file individually for this info)

if you had an option during setup perhaps (or elsewhere) in a future version that allowed an admin to specify the preferred logging method (separate files or a table in sql) i'm sure many admins would find it very useful to have a database alternative of keeping track of users becuase it would offer the two benefits listed above, plus more.

that is not possible unless you rewrite the code.

You onlyahve the two options we give in the config file for thumbnails

fixed width and height all the time

One more questions for you. is there a way to make sure that all the thumbnails are the same size without distorting the images (in the thumbnails). Or if a picture's height is bigger than its width is there to create the thumbnail such that the height of the orginal becomes the width of the thumbnails and vice versa.

Basically I just want the thumbnail pictures to be in a perfect row with all the picture heights the same and all the pic width the same.

ASPProtect v7.x has a new feature called groups.

Groups are meant as a replacement for using the access levels as they are much more powerful. Support for pages protected using access levels is left in tact for backward compatiability for a customer that was using them.

A customer recently told me groups could not be used like access levels and that 8 access levels was not enough. This is how I explained that groups can do everything access levels can do.



Groups can honestly do everything access levels can do if you really think about it.
Using groups and protecting pages accordingly you could actually create a system that basically worked identically to the way the access levels works.

For example..

You make 8 groups and assign users to them accordingly

Protection code on page allows access to groups 1-8
The aspprotect system generates this code for you…

This is an Expirmental MOD for ASPBanner Version 7.3 Only
Do not use it on other versions....

It encodes CODE Banner information before saving it into the application variables that handle banner rotation. It then decodes that information before displaying them on your web pages.

The reason for this is SOME very complex javascript does not always save correctly into the application variables that rotate banners (even when not using the JavaScript Method to display the banners)

This way the javascript or whatever you entered comes out on your web page exactly as you entered it and runs correctly.. but there is little more processing going on to handle the encoding and decoding. But its probably nothing to worry about and won't effect performance at all.

Unless your having a problem don't use this mod. It is not officially supported in any way.

I am using ASPProtect's password program, which has been very successful, for managing over 1,500 military veterans' memberships at http://www.vspa.com.  What I am trying to do now is utilize the "Groups" code, as generated by the Admin page, to prevent members with expired accounts (and non-members) from accessing restricted "members only" .ASP pages they may have bookmarked, or found via web search. I have had a couple of users log out of the system as they are supposed to, move to another computer and not be allowed to login because of "they are currently logged in using another IP address" when in fact they logged off properly.  Is there anything that they should be doing differently?

It seems that if a user attempts to access a page that is not in their access level or they do not have the group permission they are redirected to the login page.  Re entering their ID generates an eror and they cannot go back to the pages they are alowed to access.  Is there a way for them to simply be blocked and return to the previous page or to a defined page so they can continue using the site?

Alright.  We figured out how to work with both C# and VB, by creating a separate VB web project in VStudio, and then passing the aspprotectnet.dll to the C# project.

Ok.  I have another question:

How can our code determine the identity and user_id of the currently logged in user:

Is it Session["User_ID"].ToString() and Session["Username"].ToString()?

the only other thing would have been to test everything with sql before trying to import any data.. and make sure all was fine at that stage




more info on the errors would be helpful.

Id' also carefully visually compare the SQL tables and fields with the SQL scripts and make sure all field types and settings got set correctly.

Also, make sure the user accessign the database has datareader and datawriter permissions of course.
