All fixed and working

Thanks

,

Is there a possibility to build in a option that the administrator will be notifed when a banner expired.

,

ok, PM me some additional info so I can go look around.

I dont quite understand everything going on.

Let me know what to do exactly to be successful logging in and also...

Let me know what to do exactly to reproduce the issue and I will tell you what I think.

, Makes sense to me. I used the  ASPProtect_access2002.mdb supplied. (I am using 2003).  Only added more names and other personal info to it for test. Uploaded the amended db with FTP.  This did not restrict someone not listed in db from logging in.

Would each individuals' information need to be added to the code in order to have it check the database first to find out if the person is authorized to view?

Part of the problem is I dont know which ASP page or script links the db to the rest of the web, or how one page relates or links to the other.

Sometimes I wonder if problems I encounter originate with the server.

Thanks for patience.

,

When a user 1st signs up a proper case function is run on certain fields.
This is only once on user signup and never done in the admin area.

It's goal is to keep things entered in Proper Case,

so if someone enters "chris williams" it becomes "Chris Williams"

It's not perfect but it helps a lot to keep the data clean and more consistent. Since it only happens during registration those values can be changed later by the admin or the user if someone wants to.

The function is only applied to the fields that it makes sense to apply it to....
In your case adding a drop down menu means you want exactly what is in your drop down to appear so you wouldn't want it happening.

That being said, it is really easy to remove this situation from any field it is happening to during registration.

So edit "users/add_new_account.asp" with a text editor

find

CmdAddUser.Fields("Company_Name") = PCase(Company_Name)

and change it to

CmdAddUser.Fields("Company_Name") = Company_Name

That is all that is needed to made the change

cwilliams38421.5069328704, here is the next response to this which was emailed to me but should have been posted here

Subject: Re: CJWSoft Support Info : SSL - Verisign Certifcates

Hello,

Thank you for responding to my posting. In the second line of your response you said “not start them off at an http:// url". I think what you meant is to "not start them off at an https:// url". If this is your intention then I agree with you 100%. I have revised my pages so the users will go first to a non-https page and then make a choice either to use secure or non-secure access. Please note that the site is not intended to be completely SSL protected but only the sign up pages. I have another problem though when I click on the "Secure Log In" and enter my log in information; the entire subsequent URLs will have https:// in them which I could not shake off. As I said the intention was to use the https for sign in only.

I realize that this issue does not have any thing to do with your product, but any input will be appreciated. Best,

 Mo

,

Sorry, not really.. not without a lot of changes to the code.
the recent activity info recycles.. it is not meant to be day by day

My suggestion there would be to look at both the log files and the user activty screens...

,

A correctly configured Microsoft SQL Database is critical to the correct operation of the ASPBanner system.

Table & Field settings must be exactly the way we set them in the database creation scripts provided with the ASPBanner system.

Below are screenshots of the design view settings for all the tables used in the ASPBanner system in case you want to double check them

In addition to the settings above each table has one field that is a primary key with an auto increment of one

In the screenshots above each of those fields has a yellow key next to it.
If the field does not have yellow primary key icon on you just right click and the option to make it one appears.

The SQL column settings for each one of the primary key fields must be set as follows

In addition to these settings the SQL scripts provided with the system auto populate the Banner_Users table with two users. This is very important because without the Admin user the scripts add you wont be able to log in to the ASPBanner system as an admin.

cwilliams38325.7405092593,

You would carefully use the built in features of access to import/export data.

The password for our databases is noted in the documentation. It's pretty hard to miss really. You can also see the database password by looking at the connection string info.

different versions may be different but it is usually "temp" minus the quotes

, You are NEVER supposed to move any files, especially that one. Of course that is going to break a lot of things.

Please put it back the way it was.

You change the path of the include file when you call it, never the location of the include file.,

Hi. Chris.  I'm not a programmer of any sorts, so I am not comfortable plugging in the changes you suggested and not knowing for sure if it will "break something somewhere else".  If the programmer tells me "you have been warned", its a pretty good sign its a no win situation. If you don't know, theres no way i can know.

I saw in the code where you mentioned the changes. I don't see where it mentions the last name is required either, but the bottom line is it does require it it the actual new user form.

Thanks anyway Chris. I'll figure something out.

-john

,

Chris, that fixed it.  Found 2-references to guestbook2 in the file show_messages_inc.asp located in the \guestbook\ directory.

Suggestion for future release.  Create an option to email the admin when a message is posted.  If this code already exists please advise.

Thanks, Lance

, no worries from me.  As with most software projects, i tweak the heck out of them and then have to make a big decision about whether or not i even want/need to upgrade.

KT
,

Our home page is not showing up gives this error:

Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'

Include file not found

/Default.asp, line 246

The include file 'elib/articles/home_feature1.asp' was not found.

, I encountered the same problem and eventually found out that my Norton protection was not allowing scripts to work so I had to uncheck the setting before the banners reappeared.,

Chris -

Sorry, I am looking at your code on view_item.asp and I have noticed that you are calling 3 variable; start_date, end_date, and image_url that do not exist in the databases that you provided.  Do I have the updated package for ASPVendor?

, Ok, set up a new web.config in root, with just the suggested code.

that worked to get this....

,

Cool.

Well I'm in the middle of uploading the txt file and it's about half way done and sitting there...so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

,

Post a request in the "custom code work" forum.
Perhaps another customer will want to do the work or help you out with some code.

I am just too busy to do any custom work for quite a while.

,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I will consider editing the code.

SQL Database Creation (NEW INSTALL)

If you are creating a new database do so using SQL enterprise manager.
Create a new database called whatever you like and keep all the default settings. If using an existing sql database skip that step.

Now open up SQL Query Analyzer

unzip the following sql script and open it in query analyser.
2005-02-20_132116_aspprotect_v7_sql_script.zip

VERY IMPORTANT
On the drop down box at the top right make sure your intended database is selected. Otherwise your changes may effect the wrong database in your SQL server.

Then load the script  into the Query Analyzer.  Click the green play button at the top. If everything goes well the response should read something like this.

******************************************************
(1 row(s) affected)
******************************************************

If so the tables have been created in your existing database.

Now make sure an existing or new SQL user has (public / datareader / datawriter) permissions for the new tables. You will be referencing this user in the asp code connection string so this user must be set up correctly. You may need your SQL server admins or hosting company to help you on this step as you may not have access to do this. You may not need to create a user and set permissions as the sql user you were logged in as to use query analyzer may by default get the correct permissions on anything you create.

Regardless, as you can see from this screenshot I made a SQL user called "aspprotectuser" and proceeded to set the permissions for that user. Under database access giving him (public, datareader, and datewriter permissions).

Now, in the ASP files provided with ASPProtect edit "dataconn_inc.asp" with a text editor and modify the connection string info. Be sure to change the info to match your server, username, and password.

Below is an example of valid connection string.

ConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=poseidon;Initial Catalog=aspprotect;User Id=aspprotectuser;Password=temp;"

The  "Data Source" setting is either the Network Name for the SQL Server or the IP Address. For local servers you can sometimes use an IP of "127.0.0.1" or the name of the local server.

"Initial Catalog" is the name of your database.

Now, in the ASP files provided with ASPProtect edit "dataconn_inc.asp" with a text editor and set the DatabaseType variable to SQL like so.

DatabaseType = "SQL"

cwilliams38403.6834953704,

The ASPProtect v7.x Documentation is now available as a download in windows ".chm" format. (needs to be viewed on a windows based machine that can read it) If you are using XP with Service Pack 2 follow the instructions below or you will not be able to view the help file.

Download Documentation

You should save this file and then open it.
Just opening it from download may not work and you will not be able to read it correctly.

Please continue to check the support forum threads for the most up to date documentation.

IMPORTANT
If your are using xp with service pack 2 there are some new security features that can block the access of help files you download. So as far as the ".chm" file goes.. you have to download it... right click on it...go to properties... then  choose unblock down in the lower right corner ...then you can open and view the file correctly

,

OK.. I went with using ASPEMAIL.  The above did not seem to work.  No worries though, where there is a will (with options) there is a way.

cwilliams38394.7265162037,

Christopher

Thanks for a speedy reply.  This is what I have used most recently...

ListingsConnectionString = "DSN=longreach;UID=lradmin;PWD=skipper;"
DatabaseType = "SQL"

but that throws an error of:

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

I have private messaged you my SQL server IP address.  I am a fast learner with ASP (I think!) but some things really catch me out!

,

I've encountered another problem.  When i edit the link for existing banners and save it, the banner reverts to the old link instead of the new one.

The directory where the the database is located to rwed so the permissions is not a problem.

Any advice?

Thanks

ALL FIXED.. tested with real paypal accounts and a live system
works perfectly

THIS FIX IS ONLY FOR PAYPAL SUBSCRIPTIONS

Download this file "ipn.asp" and put it in the "paypal_sub_signup" folder
2005-03-10_164645_aspprotect_subscription_fix.zip

Basically somehow an older version of the this file was in the original download archive.

I am VERY SORRY

Anyone who purchased ASPProtect 7 before March 11, 2005 should download this fix.

cwilliams38421.7018055556,

Don't want to install the application ?
Having trouble doing it ?
Don't think you can ?

No problem, have us install it for you.

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS

Installation service is generally available Mon - Fri during the hours of 10 am - 7 pm EST.
We may very well be around to do installs at other times but we do not guarantee that.

To do an install we generally need FrontPage Explorer or FTP access to your site.
We also need a way to set permissions on any necessary directories, etc etc.

To do a SQL Server install we need to access your SQL server via Enterprise Manager.

Some installs may require access to other things not mentioned.

The server must be a properly set up NT/2000/2003 server running IIS 4-6 for ASP 3.0 applications.
(with support for ASP scripts and database connectivity.) Parent Paths must be enabled on the server.

Please Note:
These ASP scripts do not run under Chillisoft ASP. That means they do not run under Unix, Linux, Apache, etc etc.
We do not install our applications on free ASP Hosting solutions. Why, because they are more trouble than they are worth. Free hosts like that are usually zero help if we need something changed. There is a reason they are free.

We install the software in it's base configuration. We make sure it is running correctly. If you break the installation you will have to pay to have it fixed. We do not integrate it with your existing site or edit any of your existing web content. That is up to you. Installation fees are non refundable as is the digital source code we sell. When you purchase anything from us you agree to this.

We do not do installs for IPNFulfill and Color Sequence Protection as they are simple scripts and do not even use a database.. We also do not install the IPN Support Pack as it is just a folder you copy into your web and some configuration files that you must decide how to configure based on your needs and your PayPal account info.

cwilliams38165.5615277778,

that wont work the way you did it because groups are not stored like like.

groups are stored "*1*"
or "*1*,*9,*"

so if you test for them you must do so using the InStr function of vbscript

example:

If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then
    ' do whatever
End If

also.. as for the session variable
it should be    Session("Groups")

And in Version 6.... (its all ready to go in version 7) that session variable must be saved in the check_user_inc.asp file near where all the others are saved. If it is not there by default "I dont remember if it is or not" you have to add it like so near where all the others are saved

Session("Groups") = CmdCheckUser("Groups")

If you are wondering if it is being saved correctly you can always response.write out the Session("Groups") to see if it holds a value

, To finalize this thread.. a target was added to the form by the customer by accident thus causing the situation, Your suggestion worked - thanks - , Still not having much success.  I am using SQL server.  I changed the permission in the following directory :sql server data\mssql\data.  Is that the database directory you are referring to?,

"save_pic_desc.asp"

in both the admin and users area needs to be edited

You'll see something like this...

If Len(Image_Description) > 250  Then

just change 250 to something higher.. I wouldn't go much over 500 though as it may cause problems.. I am really not sure.. Changing it higher is done at your own risk.

cwilliams38300.5727314815,

New question...

When someone edits their personal information, such as address, is there any way to set it so that someone in the office can receive an e-mail noting the changes?

Thanks.

,

i've got a client who has handed me a 151 character banner URL, and i see that the database is designed to take 150 characters. i took the obvious step of just increasing the size of that text field in the database, but i still get this error when i try to enter the URL in the proper form field:

Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.

/banners/aspbanner/save_banner.asp, line 200

now, line 200 is just this:

If Banner_Link_URL = "" THEN
 CmdEditBanner.Fields("Banner_Link_URL") = NULL
Else
 CmdEditBanner.Fields("Banner_Link_URL") = Banner_Link_URL
End If

which tells me that something is blocking the assignment of that long value to that field, even though i believed i had extended the length of that field in the source database.

where else might i look?

,

Of course ASP.NET is and HAS been installed. I have been running asp.net scripts for years on it. I am not new to asp.net nor setting up the server or anything. ASP.NET is properly installed and works perfectly.

You are missing the fact i mentioned it is a DOMAIN CONTROLLER.

I have come across MANY articles ONLINE via GOOGLE that mention if it is a domain controller, for some reason the aspnet account is not there or gets deleted.

IN ITS PLACE GOES THE IIS_WPG ACCOUNT. IS YOUR SOFTWARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS ACCOUNT?

Is it possible to run ASP.NET scripts without ASP.NET not being installed? Because I have been running asp.net pages without any problem.

, well, ultimately it comes down to this and this is stated in the footer of every page in the cjwsoft family of websites.

"In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live professionaly setup server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine."

and if you have some sort of weird timeout going on on your local machine and cant even give me a detailed error message there is just no way I can possibly troubleshoot it... I told you what to check and thats really all I can do... all my applications run on XP. As a matter of fact I do all my development on XP boxes.

It could be any numbers of things... odbc drivers, versions of vbscript... other software on the pc interfering such as antivirus script blockers like norton... all sorts of issues can pop up on personal machines running xp

If you put this up on a live professionally setup web server I can help you. On your local machine there is only so much I can suggest. , on that particular page check the session variables manually (not using the include)

that way you are keeping the login access checking to an absolute minimum, elminating any form processing from the login procedure, and keeping the upload script happy

like so

<%
If Not InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then
    ' do whatever
End If
%>

you could response.write something followed by a response.end

or you might even want to response.redirect them to some other page that using the "check_user_inc.asp" where they can log in

And if you are going to be using a free asp upload script use this one as it is probably the best pure code upload solution available as far as performance goes.

http://www.freeaspupload.net
,

I'm having an issue importing. It moves the images from the /import folder and creates the thumbnails with no problem, but the full-size photos all have a size of 0 bytes.

http://www.larrysampas.com/gallery2/default.asp?CatLevel=2&a mp;Cat1_ID=1

,

If you are developing using Windows XP Pro and running the NTFS file system setting proper permissions on a folder in your website requires that you 1st disable simple file sharing.

To do so open up "my computer". At the top open up "tools/folder options"

Then the "view" tab.

Then at the bottom uncheck "use simple file sharing"

After that that is done... using "my computer" browse to the folder in your web that you need to set permissions on.

Right click on that folder and then choose the "security" tab.
(If simple file sharing is on that tab wont be there)

Give the "Internet Guest Account" Modify Permissions
This will check all the boxes under modify as well.

You can also give permissions to the everyone account and accomplish the same thing.

BTW:
If you are using ASP.NET you need to give permissions to an account called ASPNET. It wont show up in the user list. You'll need to click "add" and then type in "ASPNET"

cwilliams38203.582337963, ok, that is what you are suppose to do... not having that path info set can cause all sorts of trouble.,
