That is why the option pack has groups which eliminate the need to use access levels because groups can do everything access levels can and more.

You are right, there are NO entries in the "PayPal_Subscriber_ID" field at all. Any way of fixing this?

Permissions and Folder Locations

By default and to keep things clean we store everything in folder called "data"

That folder then has it in 4 sub folders

database (where the .mdb and temporary .ldb files are handled)
export (where the aspprotect export files are saved)
logfiles (where the aspprotect logfiles are saved)
user_pics (where the user pictures are saved)

Doing it this way makes it very easy for a system administrator to right click on one folder and set permissions for that folder and all of it's child folders.

Now, that being said.. you do not have to use these folders.

For example if you already have a folder in your web with modify permissions for the anonymous webserver account then you can use that one folder to store all of the 4 things above.

You'd simply edit your data connection string to point to that folder and then edit the other paths in the settings area of ASPProtect.

We did it that way so you would have options in case your hosting company was being difficult with your ASP hosting needs.

Is it possible to change the currency for accepting payments?  I will like to change from US to Canadian.

Whein I went by the numbers off of your directions, which work well up to that point, the import would time out.

At that point I tried to import directly into access...and then it hung trying to login.

okay so I've put in a clean database and created a new record for me as admin.

ALL FIXED.. tested with real paypal accounts and a live system

... doesn't seem to be working on my site. I expect I did something wrong.

I've created some groups, "week", "month", and "year". Their IDS are 6, 5, and 4, respectivelty. When someone goes through the PayPal signup, he's assigned to one of those groups based on his subscription.

When I see a new subscriber and check the relevant group the person's supposed to be in, that person's not in that group. I'm adding them manually for now, but I'd sure like a solution for when I go to sleep...

My subscription code looks like this:

I've created the groups in my management console. Is there anywhere or anything else I'm missing?

Regarding hosting companies..

Now.. obviously if you are hosting on someone elses server you may not be able to set permissions like this.

Ultimately, if you are hosting somewhere and ASP and Database connectivity is part of your hosting plan. It is the hosting company's responsibility to set these permissions for you when asked or to give you a special interface to do so on your own. If they are not helping you do this then maybe it is time to get a hosting company that is serious about your ASP Hosting Needs.

Also... JUST TO BE PERFECTLY CLEAR

The permissions we are talking about cannot be set via FTP or Frontpage access to your web site. They must be set like shown above or via a special interface meant to set the permissions correctly. For all you people out there messing with the permissions you see in FTP and Frontpage.. you are wasting your time and possibly creating problems in your web.

All ASP scripts that communicate with an Access Database, Upload Pictures, Modify Text files.... are going to need these permissions set in some way or another. We have no control over that fact.

The main users screen... the 1st screen you see when you go to the admin area..  where you email an individual user..

The settings I am referring to being the various emailing settings on the settings screen, The settings you showed me.

As for emailing via a remote server over dsl. It may not be working because the ISP's block the port (25) to stop people from running email servers over their dsl.

Your POP3 works because POP3 uses port 110.

If you want to send emails from your local server on your dsl you should probably install the SMTP service of IIS if you have not and send emails using that with CDOSYS. Either that or get a commerical DSL account with a static IP that allows for running email servers.

Yesterday when I would access the get_me_in page with the password key, I was then taken to the default login page.  It did not give me the option to create a user. 

Today, when I entered the password key into the get_me_in page, I was taken right to the create user page.  So, yes the problem has been resolved.  I have no idea why though.

New Power Supply and a new (CPU Fan/Heat Sink) seemed to do the the trick. She's running like a champ now...

Hopefully it keeps doing so. Only time will tell.

It she's stable I can get back to designing some new software.

I think you’ll definitely like aspbanner. It's very easy to setup and use and it should work great with your portal. 

You’ll have banners rotating in no time. All you have to do is add banner calling code in your pages where you want the banners to show. There are enough methods that you will definitely find a few that work well for you. 

BTW, there are actually 7 methods now as we have a new one.

I am trying to set up ASP protect 6 and have a problem that when a new user registers their email is not transferred to the database.

I can see the rest of their entries both in the database and in the admin/edit form but not the email.

Any ideas?

After understanding how the count works i checked the IP in the db.  They are all set to the same IP (my web server) no matter what ip is doing the viewing.  This is probably due to my ISA2004 firewall that is posting the ip address of the web server with each log on.  So, can you help me with where the code would be to modify so the db does not get updated?  I risk the refresh problem, don't think it is an issue with me.

If we wanted to user groups, is the "Access Level" in the User setup the same ID as what the group access would be?  Ex. If John had Access Level 4 and the page specified <% GROUPACCESS = "4" %>

Please forgive any ignorance on my part.

Using the live demo, it seems that with the banner software my advertisers would only have access to reports, but no ability to upload banners, specify keyword triggers or zones, what have you. Is this correct?

The other thing I couldn't quite figure out, assuming I had a categorized directory on my site, is this system configurable to display different banners based on category? Perhaps through keyword triggers?

On second thought guys, it would must easier to change the code using modulus as follows:

This will end each row and create a new row after each 6th picture. It'll be must easier code to work with and change.  This code must be placed in the PicIndex For Loop.

I assume that if I am using this product, search engines such as Google cannot access and index my content. Can somebody confirm that; I want to be 100% sure.

In case it matters, I am using a basic, cheap ISP setup where my site is on a shared server.

I dont know about the unspecified errors. I really need more detailed information. (Since it has been working fine for quite a long time you might want to consider installaing the application from scracth again and see if you still get errors)

As for the log in not persiting. Did you by chance turn off cookies in your browser ? They are required for forms based authentication to function. Otherwise, yes you would need to log in to each and every page as you moved around.

been working on this for about 5 hours today.. I think I found the problem and it involves a vbNullChar that the encryption process is creating only during login attempts

it then messes up during ASPProtect authentication because it blows up the SQL Statement to the database

like I mentioned before the chances off this happening are slim but possible as two people so far have been able to create the situation

I seem to have the HANNAH password working now using your encrption key

I need a little bit more time to clean up the files I have been working on. Then I will give you new "check_user_inc.asp" and "check_admin_inc.asp" files to try out

By the way, I think the system is great and I am very pleased my purchase.

I would say that it isn't all that difficult using mySQL for the backend....the main thing is to make sure you set the primary keys for auto-incrementing in your database.  Alos need to make sure that any DELETE SQL statements are formatted like this

DELETE FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue

and not

DELETE * FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue

The same holds true for using MSSQL
