the reason being is because when I do installs I do not touch any of your existing content. I only install the base application and make sure everything in it working correctly and also that the example protected pages are working. I do not integrate it with your existing site or edit any of your existing web content. That is up to you
sorry about that, but it would be way too time consuming and editing people's existing pages is a good way to cause a lot of headaches for me and the customer if something goes wrong. Not only that but everyone uses the system differently and it wouldnt make sense for me to be the one doing that based on access levels, groups.. etc etc which will all be custom to how you want things set up.
more on installation policies here. http://www.cjwsoft.com/installation_service.asp
, Thanks Chris,
Yes I did see that, and created the new project as well as imported the DLL's. I guess my question is; is it as easy as rename the file from aspprotectlogin.aspx to login.aspx and then running the release to regenerate? I know this is a novice question as I am a novice to .NET but the fastest way to learn is to do. Also I know you’re an advanced programmer with better things to do so if I’m stepping over the line from technical help to basic programming I should already know, feel free to point me somewhere ells. , Really awesome, thanks..
If possible please be sure to respond to the email they send so the review ends up authenticated
, one thing to note... the time period we are talking about is going to to be whatever you have the session timeout set at in the settings.
perhaps making that value lower like 10 minutes is an option for you.. and might help to deal with situation
, Can I copy the file into the export folder and then the import user function?, it might.. I might be wrong though as I guess that could still be an issue with access not being able to keep up.. and then the xml parser just isnt getting the page it is requesting in time, OK, I just spent like an hour in your site.. I almost gave up
1st off... I don't know what FTP Program/Settings or what OS you are using but all the ASP Protect Files had been reformatted in a odd way which was causing some issues and the database also had problems. Your somehow introducing all sorts of UNIX line breaks to all the files and the database was actually missing some crucial parts of itself and was corrupted. So I had to update everything which means a new database. I have never seen anything like it but I fixed it all. Its something you are doing but I do not know what. Maybe your unzipping method again ?
So to get back into the admin area...
admin test
Now, the reason the albums were not showing is because you are using the ole connection string which causes problems like that. However because you host has like the worst setup ever with that network path crap for the site that was the only connection string that would work for some reason.
I highly suggest a new host with a proper setup for running ASP. www.alentus.com Your hosting companies setup is horrid as far as I am concerned. Access Databases are not meant to be connected to via a network path. http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2168
Anyway, I rewrote some of the code because of the ole connection and got the albums showing up for you.. who knows what other problems that OLE connection may bring up in the future.. for now things I tested seem ok.
As for your broken image in the your header/footer... You cant link to images and links using virtual pathing in those includes because the files are called from different directories and will work in some and not others
so when your in the root you see the image, when in a different folder you see a broken image
In other words.
link to
http://www.vickerylightning.com/gallery/vickery_template5_r2 _c1.jpg
not just
vickery_template5_r2_c1.jpg
The same goes for hyperlinks.. use the full url paths
Whatever you do...Back up the gallery folder with my changes before you go doing anything. , I just did a quick google search... found a ton of info on how to find the setting. Here is one...
These are directions for IIS6 but the process is similar for IIS4-5
- Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
- Double-click your computer name in the left pane, and then double-click Web Sites.
- Locate the Web site and directory that houses the ASP application.
- Right-click the application site or directory, and then click Properties.
- Select Home Directory, and then click Configuration.
- Click Options, and then click to select the Enable Parent Paths check box.
- Click OK two times.
cwilliams38148.5822453704, gotcha...thanks. , I really can not support it because you made that modification and it probably directly relates to the issue your having.
There are many issues that can be caused when dealing with encryption. Sometimes the encrpted passwords can end up with problematic characters. etc etc Maybe the users are changing there passwords to ones that do that... after you fix them.. Its hard to say
I know as I had to sort things like out when I designed version 7 which has built in encrpytion.
It could be anything really.. since you made changes like you sorta need to figure out what is backfiring. There has to be a reason.
Chris , you password protect an asp page in your site "where that is is up to you"
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo171-1.htm
then you link them there from your own pages
thats all there is to it
is that what you are asking?
Additionally...any page you password protect automatically becomes a login page... where you want to start and where you send them after or before login is something you have to handle on your own
Any pages you pasword protect will prompt the user for login info if they are not yet logged in that is.
Then once logged in it returns them to the same page they are showing the page content as it would normally appear.
cwilliams38455.7128356481, Hi,
That is not enough to go on. I need details in order to help. , You can also try setting asphttp's user agent property to some browser version like in this example. It might stop that info from showing up when it fetches a page from the server.
<% Dim BanObj1Http Set BanObj1Http = Server.CreateObject("AspHTTP.Conn") BanObj1Http.UserAgent = "Mozilla Compatible (MS IE 3.01 WinNT)" BanObj1Http.Url = " http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?Ba nnerZone=1" Response.Write BanObj1Http.GetURL set BanObj1Http = nothing %>
Also... I dont know if these values below will work but I got them from looking at my nt logs.
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)
And here is more info on the asphttp component and it's settings. http://www.serverobjects.com/comp/asphttp3.htm cwilliams38248.6481365741, sorry for the confusion. I completely forgot about that flag setup, and how different it is between the two databases., Just having the database with members does not protect the page. You need to add the appropriate code to every page you want to restrict access to.
You need to click on the Groups tab in Admin. Click on Generate PW protection code. Click on the basic button if you don't want to include levels or groups or choose a level or group(s) and click the appropriate button. Paste the code that's generated into the top of an ASP page in code view.
Is that what you're looking for?
Michelle , Can you do a better price deal for that version in place of the one I've just purchased ie for a single licence rather than unlimited Christopher?
Or failing that can you give me an idea of how many changes you had to make to convert 7.3 to work with Mysql?
Regards,
Dave , Umm, if your using MSACCESS your using MSACCESS
SQL server has nothing to do with it. ,
it has been 3 days since I logged myself in under Admin, and all the user information on the User Activiy screen seemed to be gone.
is there any specific length of period it refreshes its user information??
, this error really does not mean anything specific
Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"
If you get an error its real weird that the file is being uploaded. Generally if you get an error during upload it is because of one of these 3 things
Invalid physical path specified
Unsupported upload method chosen
Permissions
See my article on XP and permissions http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_xp_pro_and_permi ssions.asp
many people dont do their permissions right on XP Pro and that article covers everything , If you have found out that parent paths are disabled on the web server you can still use the application.
Before you continue.
If it is your server consider enabling parent paths to solve the problem.
If it is not your server consider asking them to enable parent paths for your web site to solve the problem.
If that is not possible please download this zip file. 2005-02-20_150703_aspprotect_v7.x_alternate_include_file_pat hs.zip
This zip file contains 3 sets of alternate files depending on your situation. You simply replace your existing aspprotect v7.x files with these new ones.
The zip file contains the following folders and files.

Below is the contents of the readme.txt file which explains everything.
The following folders each have a version of all the files in the ASPProtect system that might need to be edited in case you need to change the paths for the server side include files. There are 3 different scenarios.
(parent paths enabled) - This is the way the application comes. The files in this folder have FILE server side includes containing "../" information. While these includes will work when the applicaion in is any location of a website they will not work if parent paths are disabled on the web server. Generally you will want to use these on your xp development machine. You can of course use them on your real server if parent paths are enabled. Parent Paths are now disabled on II6 by default and some hosting company will not enable them.
(domain root) The files in this folder have VIRTUAL server side includes in them. These includes only work when the applicaion is installed in the root of your web domain. For example if your domain was called "www.somedomain.com" the following aspprotect files and folders would end up like this "http://www.somedomain.com/check_user_inc.asp" "http://www.somedomain.com/password_admin" "http://www.somedomain.com/users"
(domain directory) The files in this folder have VIRTUAL server side includes in them. These includes only work when the applicaion is installed in a directory called "aspprotect" in the root of your web domain. For example if your domain was called "www.somedomain.com" the following aspprotect files and folders would end up like this "http://www.somedomain.com/aspprotect/check_user_inc.asp" "http://www.somedomain.com/aspprotect/password_admin" "http://www.somedomain.com/aspprotect/users" You can change the name of the "aspprotect" directory but you will will have to edit the includes in the files.
Lastly, if you are on a local machine and insist on using the VIRTUAL INCLUDES you would also use the (domain directory files) even though you dont have a domain on your local machine most likely For example if your site was installed like so. "http://localhost/aspprotect/check_user_inc.asp" "http://localhost/aspprotect/password_admin" "http://localhost/aspprotect/users"
cwilliams38403.6836342593, sounds like trouble with the SQL database.
Did you create it using the SQL scripts we provide as that is extremely important ? , Are there any problems with modifying the default database fields.
I need to have an update from net billing and they use different settings in the database than the default.
Will the interface still be functional?
, I sent you a PM, Hi,
I wanted to see if you had any suggestions for converting from Access to SQL sever database. I attempted this earlier today performing the following steps.
1) Create SQL Tables using Enterprise Manager / SQL Scripts 2) Use DTS to move all of the existing table data to the sql tables. 3) Update dataconn_inc.asp to use SQL and the required connection string.
When these steps were complete I was able to login to ASPProtect as an admin and search / find both groups and users. However, any attempt to edit or create users resulted in a "the page ... had a problem ... " type problem. It seems that I can read from the db fine but and getting errors writing to the tables. The user id that is being used to connect to the db is the [dbo].
Any additional hints for this procedure?
Thanks
Darrell , If you makes you feel any better the photo gallery app runs awesome off an access database. Mostly because all of the picture work is done in the filesystem, not the database. The load on the database is relatively low even with a lot of users., That is actually normal and supposed to be like that. You have the current version.
ASPVendor is a VERY simple application meant to work with PayPal shopping cart that runs on their server. It is based off the ASPClassifieds core code. There is only one version and highly doubt there will ever be another., no, but in the standard version it probably will not run so great with more than 75 or so.
The unlimited version can handle pretty much whatever., Chris,
Ok new puzzle . I have now managed to gonfigure it to get the admin screen and update members. All excellent news. Seems to work a treat.
But have used the code you give in your getting started guide to add at
the very top of an aspx page to be protected. The path is configured
correctly I am sure. the aspx file is in the root, the protect program
is in a folder now configured as an application (hence the steps
forward to get to the admin screens) on the root, so address should be
foldrname//protectpage.ascx.
Proble when I load that aspx page is as above. The exact same config error ,oww!
I am sure its a setting on my server now, but I dont know what to ask for, Any ideas...
So close now!
Andy
, Ok I used the following for the sql string.. is this correct?
SELECT COUNT(Album_ID) AS Alb_Count FROM " & tbl_label_albums & " WHERE (User_ID = " & CmdListUsers("User_ID") & " AND Album_Active = '-1'" & ")" , Oh, to clarify the above. We did not change any columns in your [Users] database or any other table., SQL Server Datareader Datawriter Permissions..
here is a screenshot that shows how to set datareader and datawriter permissions on a database using "SQL Enterprise Manager"
In this example we are making sure the aspbanneruser has those permissions on the aspbanner database in the SQL Server
cwilliams38390.5986921296, ok, that is what you are suppose to do... not having that path info set can cause all sorts of trouble., Thanks.
Nick , I am having trouble getting any information to show up in the log files
directory or anything showing up on the log files tab in the
administrator. I have set the following variables under the
settings tab:
UseLogFiles checked and
value of LogFileDirectory is "c:\inetpub\wwwroot\wf\data\logfiles"
I checked the permissions on that folder and they are set so that the Internet Guest account has full control on that directory.
I also checked RecentActiveUsers and RecentPageRequrests.
I am sure I am missing something simple but no files are ever showing
up in the logfiles directory...anyone have similar problems or at least
successes?
Thanks!!
, After understanding how the count works i checked the IP in the db. They are all set to the same IP (my web server) no matter what ip is doing the viewing. This is probably due to my ISA2004 firewall that is posting the ip address of the web server with each log on. So, can you help me with where the code would be to modify so the db does not get updated? I risk the refresh problem, don't think it is an issue with me.
Thanks, , This is great documentaion for windows script 5.6 in windows chm file format for jscript and vbscript.
We use server side vbscript in all our our ASP 3.0 applications so this info can be a lot of help.

cwilliams38401.6321990741, I have accessed the "get_me_in.asp" page and entered the password encryption key. Once I entered it, I was taken to the ASPProtect Admin Area Login. It does not give me the option to create a new user as is described in the general installation documentation. How do I access the program now?, yea.. keep us posted... thats weird, We do not support customization of the code or any custom coding you may end up doing with Visual Studio.NET. However, if you can show me that the application functions incorrectly in its default unmodified form I can help. If not it has to be something you did most likely.
Though I do not if it is the issue, mixing c# and vb.net in the same project can be tricky if not problematic. It’s definitely just not something I can support.
If you have not seen it we have tuturial on setting up the project in visual studio.net. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo85-1.htm
I would suggest starting with a clean installation. Test everything to make sure the things you say are ok or not. (if not post here about it) Then try your hand at editing the application and compiling it. Keep the c# out of the mix at 1st.
I am not even sure if adding c# to the same project is feasable. (maybe it is , maybe it isn't)
That being said.. ASPProtect.NET can of course be used to protect pages using c#. But compiling the ASPProtect.NET project with C# code added sounds a bit iffy to me. We wrote the application in VB.NET so you really need to use vb.net when making changes to it. ,
