recently i've been getting a lot of unspecified errors. i've been running aspbanner for about a year and a half now. i don't know what would have caused all these problems. also, for some reason it won't maintain my log-in, ever time i got from page to page or try to submit a form it asks me log-in again.

cwilliams38389.8791550926, I do not think it it anything to do with the Application.
You most likely have some sort of ad blocking software that is doing it.
It is seeing the word "banner" or "ad" and blocking the images in your browser.
I doubt it is anything built into xp doing it. XP with SP2 has built in pop-up blockers but no ad blockers like that really. It is norton ad blocker or something of that nature.
,
Its one of the drwbacks of the encyrption.. sometimes.. VERY RARELY it will produce things that cause a problem and will not work.
It is something I am doing more research on .., Thankyou, that was very helpful, Yup, thats the problem I was having. I can get it to work if I don't do through the dl stream, but otherwise it prompts to save or open it instead of loading it in the browser.
I did read the change on making the content public instead of private so I think that will work for know...
, I would kile to see more support for the groups function:
1. on the password_admin/default.asp page have a coulmn listing groups
2. ability to change groups in bulk eg change the expiry date for all group x members
Cheers
, ya, thats basically what I was gonna do..
BTW.. if that other app is going crazy with an access database it could be the cause of all the slowdown with ASPProtect... what happens there is it is using so much database driver time that it robs other things that also access a database... so basically ASPProtect isn't asking its database for much but your other application and database are cripping that part of the system and causing it to run like crapola
If your other app is using a system dsn try changing it to use a dsn-less connection... it might actually help
, Perfect. Thanks buddy :)
eeye38433.0629976852, You should read my article on server side includes… the path to the include file must of course be adjusted depending on where in your web you are.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
You will also notice if you look at the provided example pages that the include paths have been adjusted to make sense.
If it is 2 directories down it should probably look different..
example:) "../../checkuser_inc.asp"
It’s weird that if you are not getting an error because if the path to the server side include is wrong you should get a nasty server error.
Also..
The ASPProtect system and any pages it protects must also be part of the same Application in IIS. It’s the nature of forms based authentication. Do a google search if you are not sure what an application is in IIS.
Lasty…. If you are logged in at the time
Whether your current session at the site is still active… or you have the cookie set to remember you.
Well, nothing will happen… cause your already logged in and you will just see the page as normal.
Perhaps things are working and you just don’t understand that part ?
You need to go to the log off page.. log off… then close all instances of the web browser windows..
Then come back to the site… then see if it prompts you to log in.
cwilliams38228.9837152778, You really can not do something like that. You can not use client side code to change a server side session variable.
To make changes server side a form must be submitted or a link clicked on to another page. Then you can do whatever you like but you cant have an onlci event update a session variable like that.
Though I am not sure of exactly what you are trying to do I think you'll need to go about things a little differently.
, It works. Thanks Chris.
, thats intertesting.. I have never heard of the concept until now..
I did a search for ASP examples or ASP components that can help with the process and just couldn't find anything about it., well, so far one other guy found one..
his, was some sort of weird character that was causing a line break or something though in my testing I just couldnt figure out what was going on
now for me to reproduce any error someone find with a password I need to know the key used and the password used
which make it real hard to troubleshoot
, that is good news... good guess on my part I guess
anyway, try this for your latest issue.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=340&KW =%2D1, I think this addresses your question
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo144-1.htm
, Have you thought about language file so users dont have to go into the code to put it in their language??
, When using the ASPProtect admin panel. My firewall software is going crazy or Blocking it on the Mass E-Mail, Newsletter, and other pages.
Here are some of the messages:
[Unauthorized Access Attempt] This signatures detects an attempt by a web server to deliver a malicious HTML page to a browser client, in an
[Suspicious Activity] This signature detects HTML documents attempting to spoof a link destination in the browser's status bar.
I am using Black Ice...
Will users also get this kind of activity from the pages ??? Or is it only because of using the Admin Interface of the software ???
Thanks
, I just installed the software, but I can't find any place where I can see when users logged in, can someone please tell me where I can do this?
Thanks
, Our login works great, variables even help determine menu options. When user logs on, however, it opens in a new page. Is there a setting somewhere that sets whether you can open in a new or existing page?
Also, when you log off
, Hello,
no default setting for something like that... what your thinking about doing is on the right track I'd say
, Weird things happening, when I upload using the vb method the image fails and error is that the image was empty.
Utilizing ASPUpload and after clicking upload file I get a blank screen, no preview, no nothing (it loads with the proper header/footer) but a completely blank body.
Any hints?
, Is there a limit to how many access levels the program has? We were thinking of having a different access level for each client that logs on our site so we can customize their web experience. We see 6 in one place of the program, 8 in another, but is there any reason why we couldn't make 100 more?
Thanks again for the help!
, Where is the system getting the random user name and password, and why does it keep selecting the same user name and password every time?
, dsn-less is the way to go..
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo9-2.htm
you also need to use newer versions of the database as the odbc drivers on the server are sometimes very new and no longer work with access 97 databases
, When I add a user, I can not activat it.
It sends me back to log on and will now allow me to log in as admin???
I can restart the APP and log in as Admin, but the user I added
is still not activated??
My system will also not allow me to set the Stay Loged in FLag.
It just ignores it....
, I am trying to import a database into my list of registered
users. When I go the import_export_manager.asp page most of the
content is missing. All that appears is the first 2 lines of text
and a box. The rest of the page is blank. I have tried this
under 5 different browsers on 3 different machines and on 2 operating
systems. I also ftp'd the original .asp file with no success. Any
clues?
, Send email to users that are soon to expire:
What Format should be used for dates and does international friendly dates affect the date as used by the reminder ?
Am having serious problems with renewal notices and expiration dates.
All member sign ups are for 1 yr., yet new members are being sent
renewal notices.
Does Paypal use a different date system or has does
Paypal have nothing to do with Subscription dates?
, Has any one used the aspmail function to send emails from within your site? If so what did you use as the AspMail_Host string in the connections database?
thank you
, Sorry, I forgot about that when I got hung up on the install problem.
I'll tackle your explanation now to see if I can get it working. Since I already bought the software I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks
, Well you can put a link on all your pages that links to the login page?
modify the code in the login page so the return page is members.aspx or
whatever you need and thats it?
I dont see your point? probably because I understand how the program works and your not 100% up to speed on how it works.
, look in the "check_user_inc.asp" file
Thank you that did it !!
, Oh, to clarify the above. We did not change any columns in your [Users] database or any other table., Please Note : ASPProtect v7.x has a new feature called groups that is much more powerful than access levels. Access Levels were left in the product primarily for existing customers that upgrade to the new version so they do not need to make a lot of changes to their site if they were using Access Levels.
More On Access Levels
Again, Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code.
Access Levels and how they work can be re-coded to work in many different ways. However, you have to be a good ASP developer to make changes to it. Here is some information on how they work by default.
In the "check_user_inc.asp" that comes in the root of this system Access Levels work as follows.
Level 1 has Access to - Level 1
Level 2 has Access to - Level 1,2
Level 3 has Access to - Level 1,2,3
Level 4 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4
Level 5 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5
Level 6 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6
Level 7 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
Level 8 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN
Here is some additional info..
If the access levels are too restrictive you can ignore them all together and create your own totally custom solutions.
Here is a quick rundown of some of the things you can do.
Ok... so if you want to be really specific about what each user can see and
can't .. here's an example of what you can do
Don't use the access levels before the include file..
Don't worry about what you set a user to in the admin area since the access levels won't be used.
Do something like this..
Every time a user logs in session variables are set that you can access at
any time.. thus allowing you to know who they are.
So you could do something like this...
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
<%
If Session("USERNAME") = "bob1267" or Session("USERNAME") = "carl45" or Session("ADMIN") = "True" Then
Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "Yes"
Else
Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "No"
Response.Redirect(Request.ServerVariables("script_name"))
End If
%>
The following URL explains what Redirects are.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/redirects.asp
That would in effect create totally custom access levels.. but you would
have to do it manually for each user.
You can also do things like this after a person logs in
Show custom html to any specific user based on either their username or
access level ... like so
say there was a menu and a certain link should only show up to username
"paully67"
you could do something like this
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE></TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
<br>
<a href="main.asp">Home Page</a>
<%
If Session("USERNAME") = "paully67" Then
%>
<br>
<a href="paullys_page.asp">Pauls Stats Page</a>
<%
End If
%>
<br>
<a href="links.asp">Links Page</a>
</BODY>
</HTML>
Or you can show custom HTML or links based on Access Levels or any other info.
You can do just about anything with if-then statements and
using the built in vbscript functions..
Hopefully this info will help to give you some ideas...
Bottom line is you have to do some work within your site to make the Access Level system really come alive.
cwilliams38403.6781481481, That is actually normal and supposed to be like that.
You have the current version.
ASPVendor is a VERY simple application meant to work with PayPal shopping cart that runs on their server. It is based off the ASPClassifieds core code. There is only one version and highly doubt there will ever be another., If you are developing using Windows 2003 Server and running the NTFS file system setting proper permissions on a folder in your website is done like so.
using "my computer" browse to the folder in your web that you need to set permissions on.
Right click on that folder and then choose the "security" tab.
Give the "Internet Guest Account" Modify Permissions
This will check all the boxes under modify as well.
You can also give permissions to the everyone account and accomplish the same thing.

Other things to note:
If you are using ASP.NET you need to give permissions to an account called ASPNET. It wont show up in the user list. You'll need to click "add" and then type in "ASPNET"
In some cases you may want to go into the advanced tab and check both checkboxes shown in order to make sure the permissions you need get set. It really all depends on the situation.

cwilliams38342.7343981481, Your users with Internet Explorer may have received the "Page Expired" error. For ASPProtect users, it happens when the user is not logged on and tries to invoke the target page. check_user_inc.asp puts up the login form, and IE sees it as part of the target page. Any later attempt to Back up and reload from cache gives the errror.
My solution was, after successful login, instead of falling through the bottom of check_user_inc.asp and running the target page, I issue a re-direct to reload the target page. I also added META tags on the dynamic login form to say no-cache and expire now, so the re-direct really does reload the target page. This time, of course, check_user_inc.asp does not need to put up the login form, and the new target page in cache contains no form at all. So, IE will not give a Page Expired error when Backing up to it later.
Netscape, and I gather other browsers, do not behave the same way, so I limited the solution to IE. Also, the solution only works if the target page has no form of its own.
I'm uploading my customized version of check_user_inc.asp that contains this solution. (In it, I also used the Javascript focus method to place the "cursor" in the Username field when the login form loads.)

cwilliams38313.494537037, Bingo! that did it. Somehow the data must have gotten corrupted.
Hopefully that will do for me. Seems like everything is humming along and looks great!
Thanks again,
Laura
, thats not good.. its a web server configuration issue of some sorts ?
post is a common method for forms.. if it is not supported it is something you should ask the server admins about.
Is this a windows based web server running true microsoft ASP because that error is usally associated with non windows IIS based web servers from what I can see by doing a google search ?
ASPProtect only runs on windows servers running IIS and True Microsoft ASP.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo165-1.htm
My guess is your web server is running Apache Unix or something like that.
, glad it is working now
sorry ya had trouble.
cwilliams38418.6886342593, Actually it is my own server (retired email server from my employer). I will check out the documentation again. I DID read that part, but didn't understand it enough. I'll dig deeper. Also my box has 2 CPU's, hence the $125 for ASPImage...,
