Active Server Pages help tutorial how to ASP Help ASP Tutorials ASP Programming ASP Code - ASP Free CJWSoft ASPProtect ASPBanner ASPClassifieds

Blog Entry: 3/25/2006 1:38:51 PM

Probably not... javascript calling complex javascript is not a good thing and is often a problem.

I would try one of the other methods such as the xml parser if possible.

, "do you know a way around the BinaryRead problem with ASPProtect?"

Let me rephrase:

Do you know a way in which ASPProtect can be modified to get around the BinaryRead problem?

Thanks,
Michelle
,

you password protect an asp page in your site "where that is is up to you"

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo171-1.htm

then you link them there from your own pages

thats all there is to it

is that what you are asking?

Additionally...any page you password protect automatically becomes a login page... where you want to start and where you send them after or before login is something you have to handle on your own

Any pages you pasword protect will prompt the user for login info if they are not yet logged in that is.

Then once logged in it returns them to the same page they are showing the page content as it would normally appear.

cwilliams38455.7128356481, Thanks and glad that fixed it.

You can review this software at
http://www.aspin.com/func/review?id=4952510

That being said, ASPIN has a lot of problems with anonymous reviews so if you can please sign up with them and post an Authentic review as they carry a lot more weight. Authentic reviews involve responding to their validation email so when doing so use a real email address that you regularly check.

And sorry I made you use the forums, but as you can see this is exactly the sort of thread that will help someone else later on.. and that is why I require people to use the forums now instead of just email support. That way the conversations are out in the open where they can help everyone instead of buried in my outlook where no one will ever see them. And of course if information is sensitive you can always do a Private Message as you did earlier.

It is all about creating a knowlegebase of valuable information.

,

Not really.  The way I thought activity would work is that I would always see the last 50 users.  Not sure what controls that and why I wasn't seeing it, but it sounds like it is an IIS thing and since my site is not all that busy, it will not show the users if some process has reset the numbers.  Not a big deal.

As for the log files, I think it is related to my other question regarding the export directory.  I have the ISP looking into things at thier end to see if they are doing anything that could cause the directories to disappear.

Thanks,

Dave

,

Hi, its just not something i can suppport as I do not support custmizations to the code epecially when dealing with an image component that is not supported by the application.

Sorry, its something you have to figure out. Bascially I would suggest looking at the existing asp image resizing code and using that as a guide.

Have you considered just buying a license of ASPImage and asking the host if they will install it after you purchase it. It sounds like it may save you a lot of time.

If you are ever looking for a good host for ASP. www.alentus.com is one of the best. There 9.95 plan gives you access to 3000.00 of commercial quaility asp components also which is nice.

,

The problem was in config_inc.asp. we had renamed the field in the DB but didn't change it in this file.

But we changed it, it is back to normal.

Thanks

,

ok

thanks

, Here is an example of a query I made in MSACCESS that deletes all users that belong to Group ID of 3. I used the graphical query designer in MSACCESS to do this. Took a few minutes.

DELETE
FROM ASPP_Users
WHERE (((InStr([ASPP_Users]![Groups],"*3*"))>"0"));

Because of the way groups are stored in the Groups fields you have to use the InStr function to determine if the user is part of a particular group
We are deleting all users that of Group ID of 1 so we look for *3* in this example

The SQL statement for a MSSQL database may be slightly different but the general Idea is the same

The SQL statment used in an ".asp" page will be very similar as well.

SQL Statements are the TRUE POWER of working with databases. They are something everyone should learn to work with because they allow you to do some very powerful things., not anything built into the app... it would be done with client side javascript if you wanted to look into it...  my client side javascript skills are ziltch, Flash files cannot track clicks unless you edit the original flash file to link to the aspbanner system redirect URL.. feeding it the correct ID of the banner.

When that link is clicked on it will then track the click and redirect the user to the “link url” specified for that banner.

The system actually generates the necessary ASPBanner URL for you. That link is shown on the banner edit screen.(you must save the banner at least once and come back to that screen to see the link though)

Really the best way to show it is with an example as seen below.

Basically the flash banner file "powerasp.swf" highlighted in green needs to be edited to link to the banner redirect url which is highlighted in red.... the banner redirect url will then track the click and ultimately send the user to the Link_URL highligthed in blue.

All banners systems work this way when it comes to flash files.
It’s the nature of flash and the web browser,

The flash source code must be edited to link to the redirect url in the ASPBanner system. There is no possible way any banner system can track a flash click unless the flash file links to the banner system 1st.... because that click is handled by Flash and the web browser.

In some cases if you do have the original source file for the flash banner then you are out of luck as far as tracking clicks goes.

On a side note... if you create flash banners the way this article says you can actually feed a .swf flash file a link for it to click to. Instead of it being hardcoded.

http://www.macromedia.com/resources/richmedia/tracking/desig ners_guide/index.html

This is really the way everyone should design their flash banners from now on because the url it links to can be easily changed at any time without editing the flash file source code.

cwilliams38325.740162037,

These Settings:

Picture upload feature settings.

Use_Picture_Upload < = value=True name=Use_Picture_Upload> Check this if you will be using the picture uploading feature.
UploadDirectory < size=60 value=C:\Inetpub\virtuals\aspphotogallery.com\Web\demo\pictu res name=UploadDirectory>
Example:  "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ASPPhotoGallery\pictures"
Ask your server admin if you are not sure.
This directory needs proper permissions for the SAFILEUP component or the VBSCRIPT solution to work correctly. It basically needs to same permissions as the database directory would need when using Microsoft Access.
PictureURL < size=60 value=http://www.aspphotogallery.com/demo/pictures name=PictureURL>
Example:  "http://p600laptop/ASPPhotoGallery/pictures"
This is the web URL of the the upload directory specified above.
Use_SAFILEUP_Upload < = value=SAUP name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a component called SAFILEUP which is high end upload component available from www.softartisans.com. It is far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution.It is highly recommended for a busy site.  If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error.
Use_ASPUPLOAD_Upload < = value=ASPUPLOAD name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a component called ASPUPLOAD which is high end upload component available from www.persits.com. It is also far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution.It is highly recommended for a busy site.  If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error.
Use_DUNDAS_Upload < = value=DUNDAS name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a (FREE) component called DUNDAS UPLOAD which is a high end upload component available from www.dundas.com. It is also far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution.It is highly recommended for a busy site.  If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error.
Use_VBSCRIPT_Upload < = value= name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a pure VBSCRIPT solution. It requires VBSCRIPT version 5 or higher to be installed on the server. The solution usually works fine, but has been reported to cause memory leaks on XP machines.

Hello,

You'll need to find a validation function to test for it.
Either server side or right in the form via client side javascript.

I dont have any experience with validating zip codes here much less UK.

Google it would be my best advice.. or maybe find some free app written in UK format and see how they did it.

Good Luck..

And if ya find anything post it here if ya like

cwilliams38381.5607638889, Yup, thats the problem I was having. I can get it to work if I don't do through the dl stream, but otherwise it prompts to save or open it instead of loading it in the browser.

I did read the change on making the content public instead of private so I think that will work for know...
,

I am an experienced ASP developer. Can you tell me whether this would be a very involved process, or whether it is pretty straightforward? I don't yet have a merchant account, so I am not yet familiar with any aspect of accepting credit cards online.

Thanks.

,

Ok I used the following for the sql string.. is this correct?

SELECT COUNT(Album_ID) AS Alb_Count FROM " & tbl_label_albums & " WHERE (User_ID = " & CmdListUsers("User_ID") & " AND Album_Active = '-1'" & ")"

, well, ultimately it comes down to this and this is stated in the footer of every page in the cjwsoft family of websites.

"In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live professionaly setup server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine."

and if you have some sort of weird timeout going on on your local machine and cant even give me a detailed error message there is just no way I can possibly troubleshoot it... I told you what to check and thats really all I can do... all my applications run on XP. As a matter of fact I do all my development on XP boxes.

It could be any numbers of things... odbc drivers, versions of vbscript... other software on the pc interfering such as antivirus script blockers like norton... all sorts of issues can pop up on personal machines running xp

If you put this up on a live professionally setup web server I can help you. On your local machine there is only so much I can suggest. ,

How to set a new users expiration date.

You'll need to edit the "users/add_new_account.asp" with a text editor.

Find this section..

<%
CmdAddUser.Fields("ValidateEmailCode") = ValidateEmailCode
CmdAddUser.Fields("Access_Level") = ""
' PUT YOUR CODE HERE
CmdAdduser.Update
ID = CmdAdduser("ID")
CmdAdduser.Close
Set CmdAdduser = Nothing
ConnPasswords.Close
Set ConnPasswords = Nothing
%>

You'll want to add code like this right between the Acccess_Level  and Updates section

CmdAddUser.Fields("Expiration_Date") = Date + 60

That will give take todays date and add 60 days to it.
You can of course do whatever you want here.

Actually, any database value for the user can be set during registration.

You can also change the default Access_Level to whatever you like.

cwilliams38403.6828587963,

I need a point or a little insight please.

I need to get information from a credit card authorization called netbilling. I have been looking at your code for PayPal and 2 checkout. I have a feel for the code flow and the relationships of the "includes" .

I have been doing a lot of reading in my books and am seemingly twisted around the axel. I am not expert in ASP I am better in VB. I am not afraid to write code I am just a little nervous about messing up existing relationships.

My plan is simple: code a page to open the database and populate the database fields from netbilling and convert their field name to yours in the database.

I appreciate your time and insight. As in the past I need your help again.

Thanks

,

I have an asp page that includes other asp pages via an include.  for example:

snippet code: file name: collaboration.asp

 <table bgcolor="#bed1e4" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="10" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0">
    <tr>
    <td>
     <!--#include file="../../../filetransfer/directory_listing2.asp" -->
    <BR><BR>
     <!--#include file="../../../filetransfer/upload.asp" -->
    </td></tr>
   </table>

I can add the code below to collaboration.asp and it seems to work,but I cant seem to figure out how to protect the other files such as upload.asp at the same time. -- can you help?  - Note: as soon as I add the code below (and adjust the path) - I cant bring up the page.

This is the protection code I am using.

<!--#INCLUDE FILE="../../../../aspprotect/check_user_inc.asp"-->

Shirely

, You would have to carefully edit the asp code in the "add_new_account.asp" file. It you look that file over with a text editor it is pretty easy to see where the text to edit is.  Just make sure you edit it in the section for the email component you are using. Back the file up before you make any changes to it so you can revert back if you mess anything up.,

How to bring up Banner Calling Code Generators

Simply go to the zones screen.
Select a Zone from the list.
Check the "Show Banner Code" option.

Click on "Display Banners in Selected Zone"

cwilliams38325.7399537037,

Hi Chris,

Alright.  We figured out how to work with both C# and VB, by creating a separate VB web project in VStudio, and then passing the aspprotectnet.dll to the C# project.

Ok.  I have another question:

How can our code determine the identity and user_id of the currently logged in user:

Is it Session["User_ID"].ToString() and Session["Username"].ToString()?

thank you

,

How do I change the character length for the description field?

,

Hello,

In that version is is not easy to change the values as they were not intended to be edited. You would have to dig through quite a lot of code as those values are hardcoded in quite a few pages. Probably at least 10 or more.

In the pro version there are variables you can change that very easily as that is intended to be easily changed in that version.

,

ok.. the count your talking about wont increment until someone other than you views the page.

After that you can increment it one time...

It keeps track of the last IP that hit it.. if it is the same it doesn't increment

This is all by design...  so the same person doesn't increment the count over and over..

It's simplitist and it can be tricked... but it does what it needs to do

,

Please Note : Users with the option pack a new feature called groups that is much more powerful than access levels.

More On Access Levels

Again, Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code.

Access Levels and how they work can be re-coded to work in many different ways. However, you have to be a good ASP developer to make changes to it. Here is some information on how they work by default and also info on an alternate scenario we have provided.

In the "check_user_inc.asp" that comes in the root of this system Access Levels works as follows.

Level 1 has Access to - Level 1
Level 2 has Access to - Level 1,2
Level 3 has Access to - Level 1,2,3
Level 4 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4
Level 5 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5
Level 6 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6
Level 7 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
Level 8 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN

The "check_user_inc.asp" included in the "extras" directory is an example of changing the access level checking code
to work differently. In that "check_user_inc.asp" Access Levels works as follows.

Level 1 has Access to - Level 1
Level 2 has Access to - Level 2
Level 3 has Access to - Level 3
Level 4 has Access to - Level 4
Level 5 has Access to - Level 5
Level 6 has Access to - Level 6
Level 7 has Access to - Level 7
Level 8 has Access to - Level 8
ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN

If you get creative you can create some interesting access level checking scenarios.

Here is some additional info..

If the access levels are too restrictive you can ignore them all together and create your own totally custom solutions.
Here is a quick rundown of some of the things you can do.

Ok... so if you want to be really specific about what each user can see and
can't .. here's an example of what you can do

Don't use the access levels before the include file..
Don't worry about what you set a user to in the admin area since the access levels won't be used.

Do something like this..

Every time a user logs in session variables are set that you can access at
any time.. thus allowing you to know who they are.

So you could do something like this...

<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>

<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->

<%
If Session("USERNAME") = "bob1267" or Session("USERNAME") = "carl45" or Session("ADMIN") = "True" Then
Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "Yes"
Else
Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "No"
Response.Redirect(Request.ServerVariables("script_name"))
End If
%>

The following URL explains what Redirects are.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/redirects.asp

That would in effect create totally custom access levels.. but you would
have to do it manually for each user.

You can also do things like this after a person logs in

Show custom html to any specific user based on either their username or
access level ... like so

say there was a menu and a certain link should only show up to username
"paully67"

you could do something like this

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE></TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>

<br>
<a href="main.asp">Home Page</a>

<%
If Session("USERNAME") = "paully67" Then
%>

<br>
<a href="paullys_page.asp">Pauls Stats Page</a>

<%
End If
%>

<br>
<a href="links.asp">Links Page</a>

</BODY>
</HTML>

Or you can show custom HTML or links based on Access Levels or any other info.

You can do just about anything with if-then statements and
using the built in vbscript functions..

Hopefully this info will help to give you some ideas...

Bottom line is you have to do some work within your site to make the Access Level system really come alive.

cwilliams38114.6506712963, it makes zero sense really... in the 4 years we have sold this application this is really the weirdest thing anyone has had happen.., sounds like trouble with the SQL database.

Did you create it using the SQL scripts we provide as that is extremely important ? , ok.

sorry then..

I just had a series of fraudulant orders this past week including today and the whole thing has me on edge. (foreign people getting my code for free and doing who knows what with it) When you mentioned calling the cc company it pushed all the right buttons.

Merry Christmas,

The version of aspbanner you have should not matter.

What you are doing here is wrong.

<PARAM NAME=movie VALUE=" http://www.innovationtools.com/aspbanner/aspbanner/banner_re direct.asp?Banner_ID=25">

PARAM NAME=movie is supposed to link to your ".swf" file.
And thats why all you see is black.

I don't think you quite understood all of that information fully.

Your ".swf" files needs to be coded in FLASH to link to the aspbanner redirect url. You don't change that flash calling code like that.

The ".swf" file links to the aspbanner redirect url which tracks the click and then redirects the user to the Link URL

You basically need to code your ".swf" flash file to go to that aspbanner URL or code your flash file so it can take a parameter for the url it clicks to (like the macromedia article talks about. This has to be done when editing the flash file in the flash editor before the file is saved.

If you dont have access to the original ".swf" to edit it and re-save it.. your out of luck as far as tracking clicks goes

,

Hi Chris

After turing off the delayed stats feature the internal errors have stopped and it still serves banners, although I havent checked the logs yet. I will and post any errors.

I left my test page up last night at say 11pm serving 4 banners of different sizes rotating every 15 seconds, now at 9am the page is just displaying 1. If I refresh the page they all reappear.

Regards
Colin

,

1st off.. you appear to have some strange things going on with that domain. Looks like you have a frameset and are loading another domain in it which is always confuding especially if you are running the site off your home computer or something... I am not sure

That aside..

If I go to

http://www.bones.myftpsite.net/rfamilystuff/default.asp

and click on the "familiy" category

then right click on a broken image.. look at properties

Your linking the image to your localhost

see

http://localhost/rfamilystuff/pictures/Pic_3_1_thumb.jpg

and that is wrong, just like I said above

Nobody running the site off any computer but your development machine is going to see those pictures because the url isnt valid for them

My guess is in the settings you have the "PictureURL" set to

http://localhost/rfamilystuff/pictures

when it should be

http://www.bones.myftpsite.net/rfamilystuff/pictures

Good luck with this.. I am going to the bar.
If you need more help I probably will not be available until Monday.

cwilliams38394.7688773148,

here is a thread that may help you if this is what you were getting at

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo389-1.htm

, After a user edit his information (name, email, etc), the session variables are not updated.  In the user_area.asp page, I "Response.Write" all the session variables, and they are still showing the old information. I tried refreshing the page but to no avail. The only way to update the display is to log off and login again.

please help.
,

I dont know about your error on line 6 when uploading..

as far as the manaully edited import file not working I would really need to see it. There has to be somethin wrong with it's format.

I really need more information and possibly acess to the system to do some troubleshooting...

This is anot a feature anyone has ever had an issue like this with.

,

IMPORTANT UPDATE - READ THIS
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=205& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1

The 2Checkout Support Pack which is built in to ASPProtect 7 contains all the pre-built scripts you need to implement 2Checkout Payments with ASPProtect. You must be using version 2 of the 2checkout system. They are phasing out version 1 regardless so everyone will be using version 2 very soon if they are not already.

THIS IS NOT INTENDED OR DESIGNED TO USE 2CHECKOUT SUBSCRIPTIONS. (see bottom of this thread for more info on that)

This Support Pack basically gives you an additional signup and registration directory "2checkout_signup" and it should not interfere with any changes or customizations you have made to your ASPProtect setup in general. New users can register in this directory and pay for membership at the same time. Existing users whether active or expired can be sent to this directory where they can lookup their account and buy additional membership time online. You can also assign various Access and Group Levels during signup and you can set up various prices for various amounts of time as well. This is a real-time setup for the most part. As soon as a user pays via 2Checkout your system is updated and they will have access.

The 2checkout pack is NEW.. and was released on March 19, 2005. If you don't have it and would like it please just ask.

To start using this edit the "2checkout_signup/2checkout_config_inc.asp" file

You will be entering your 2Checkout Account number in that file as well as the URL you want a user to go to after payment. It is all commented in that file. (There is also a testing variable you can set to True if you want to do testing without real charges being applied)

After editing that file run this page.

http://www.mysite.com/2checkout_signup/show_postback_path.asp

Replacing the part in blue with your website info.

It will report back that postback url you need to use in the 2checkout system.

Log into your 2checkout version 2 account and under the "look & feel section" enter that postback url for both the "Approved URL" and the  "Pending URL"

Trust me: You want the URL there for a pending URL because the 2Checkout system is quite random and 95% of the payments that come in go to the pending URL and end up being legitimate sales. (at least for me they do)

Now make sure the Direct Return option on that page is on as well.

If set to Yes buyers will be immediately directed to your URLs below once they click the
Complete Order button. If set to No the buyers will have to click a button to return
to your URLs below.

Save that page... and leave 2checkout.

Now, delete this page from your ASPProtect setup.
http://www.mysite.com/2checkout_signup/show_postback_path.asp

It's a minor security risk and is no longer needed needed.

The basic setup is finished. All you have to now is set up payments options the way you want them.

Changing Payment Options

In the "2checkout1.asp" file there are form options set up.

They look like this and you can have as many as you like.

<option selected value="30,9.95,3,">30 Days, 9.95</option>

In this option... A user has the option to purchase 30 days for $9.95 and he will be set to Access Level 3 when payment in completed.

Here is how it works.

The value setting (red) is essentially and array that can be made up 4 elements separated by comma's
They must be separated by a comma and there can be no spaces. In this example the 4th value was not used but the last comma must still be there. If you didn't want to set an access level and left out the "3" there would 2 commas at the end.  etc etc
Basically there must always be 3 commas but you only have to set the 1st 2 values which are days and price.

days,price,access level,groups

The 1st value is the amount of days.
The 2nd value is the price for the amount of days.
The 3rd value is the access level you want to user assigned to.
The 4th option is the groups you want the user assigned to. (see PayPal subscription thread for examples of specifying group info)

Now, the label for the option in (blue) can say whatever you like.

,

That would not happen unless you added a target to the login form or you're code had a base target set.

Like so..

<base target="_blank">

I would really need more detailed information. It's nothing the system does the way it ships under normal circumstances. For example you shouldn't see that behavior in any of the example protected ".asp" pages

that is unless you have something odd going on with your browser settings or you made changes to the login form or code around it causing it. (or you are using frames and dont have some of the targets and what not set correctly)

My guess is that it has to be something you added or did, but I really need to know more to offer more than that.

cwilliams38419.7687152778, say ?

How do you like LiveSTATS.xsp V7 ?

Looks pretty sweet but the pricing is just too much for me to justify as I am very happy with smarterstats and I host a lot of sites now.

I used to use Livestats 5  back in the day when we had a 50 domain license where I worked and hosted my sites.  I liked it a lot then I tried the version 6.2 that they had for a while and hated it. Version 5 still runs well on 2003 server but it has such outdated search engine information that it isnt worth using. cwilliams38324.8862847222,

Hello,

Again, enspecified error are not very helpful.
An error usually tells you at least a line number and page or something.

Please read this as it might help do tell me more.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11& PN=1

As for only happening once in a while. It could be a lot of things.

Version being used (when did you purchase.. what name/email was it under and I can look) ?
What banner method being used?
Access or MSSQL ?
How busy the site is ?
Server Resources ?
