I would like to create a login form on the home page which will not be password protected to the site for members so that they can login right from the home page and not a password protected page like many sites have. And every portal I have seen.
Plus the login form looks really pretty and proffesional on the home page ...
I can't find anything in the documentation that says how to do this or if it's even possible. Everything I have found says to password protect a page and then direct them there which isn't what I would like to do.
Here is the code of the login page which is an asp include file on the main page:
<html>
<head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> </head>
<body> <td><img src="images/a026.jpg" alt="" width="187" height="21"></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td><table width="180" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#AAAAAA"> <tr> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="178" height="1"></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td> </tr> <tr> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td> <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><form name="form_login" method="post" action=""> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="5" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td width="53%"><input name="textfield" type="text" class="style-01" value="username"></td> <td width="47%"><a href="#" class="link-02">Forgot pass?</a> </td> </tr> <tr> <td><input name="textfield2" type="text" class="style-01" value="password"></td> <td><a href="#" class="link-02">Not registered?</a> </td> </tr> </table> </form></td> <td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="3"><a href="#"><img src="images/a027.jpg" alt="" width="180" height="15" border="0"></a></td> </tr> </table></td> </tr> </table></td> </body>
</html>
Does anybody know what values I would put in the form to send the correct login to AspProtect. And, if I would have to add any extra includes or code to it.
TIA  , Hi Chris
I've just recently purchased ASPBanner and have been testing out serving multiple Tradedoubler code using the IFRAME method. I have four types of banner on the same page refreshing every 15 seconds. (this will change on the live site)
I've been leaving the IE page up for x hours and coming back to find between 1-3 of the banners has stopped and in place is an "internal error".
BannerZone=3&Refresh=15|40|800a0046|Permission_denied 80
I thought it may have been the SQL permissions from one of your other messages so I gave the banner user the DataReader and DataWriter permissions.
Its still happening and around the same time in the logs theres a couple of file not found errors.
BannerZone=2&Refresh=15|23|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159
BannerZone=4&Refresh=15|25|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159
BannerZone=1&Refresh=15|25|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159
Any ideas? I'm hoping its not the server as there is currently only 2 sites on it and this is pretty much the only traffic.
Thanks
Colin ,
did you fix it because I see all the pictures just fine ?

, I dont understand why I would get an error? -- I'm not sending the email from internal - so why would it try to validate?
I'm trying to send an email to an independent place - just like I would send an email to you
Am I using the wrong email setting - should I be doing something other than using "remote server" , Nov 2005 , Hello,
VBScript is the most popular ASP scripting language, and has the most support available. I estimate that less than 5% of the ASP coders out there use anything other than vbscript
That being said it specifically says on the aspprotect site ASPProtect is only for use in protecting asp using "vbscript" as the language.
http://www.aspprotect.com/more_info_full_v7.asp
http://www.aspprotect.com/comparison.asp
it is something I specified very clearly for this very reason.
Sorry, but you can not use ASPProtect to protect pages using Language="Javascript". The code is too complex to be mixed with server side Javascript.
To password protect asp pages written using "Javascript" you really need a an application specifically written in and designed to work with ASP pages written using "Javascript". And then of course that application would not be able to protect ".asp" pages written using "vbscript." (I mean never say never, but it would be a ton of work to get both working and I doubt you will ever see a commercial application that does both)
as for switching back and forth between vbscript and javascript you really can't except with very simple code. Doing so with anything complex can be extremely problematic because the order of execution sometimes gets all mixed up because of the complexity of the code being used.
That doesn't mean it can not work....
You would really want to do something like this.
do not specify a default language at the top
surround the aspprotect include file with this
<SCRIPT Language="vbscript">
</script>
surround your javascript code with this
<SCRIPT Language="JavaScript">
</script>
then make sure none the code including the aspprotect include file has any <% or %> tags in it
that means you have to remove that sort of thing everywhere... that means a lot of work if you used a lot of that sort of thing instead of response.writes to write out html type stuff
and again... I don't know if you would ever get it all working , also, from looking at your site your ideal scenario would be a system that allows you to show all banners in one zone at any given time but in a different order.
ASPBanner is just not that sort of system. It is only designed to show one banner at a time from a given zone in random order., Same here. Thinking it might be server load or the bandwidth to the server.
Thanks for checking! Lance , Tony,
ASPBanner.NET was discontinued about 14 months ago. It is no longer supported in any way because quite frankly the classic ASP version is faster, more stable, has more features, and is a lot easier to install and get running.
If you PM me via the forum you are welcome to a copy of the current ASP Unlimited Version. It can serve banners to any type of page extension. All you have to do is ask for a copy.
Whether or not your existing ASPBanner.NET database is exactly the same structure I do not know, but I believe it is. You should compare the two if you plan to keep using the old database and make any neccessary changes so the old database has the exact same structure as the new version. If there are any differences they are very few. , Hello,
no default setting for something like that... what your thinking about doing is on the right track I'd say , I've got an ecommerce module that's running on it that uses access for the db. Connecting into that thing is slow as well, but I figured that's because of the complications and volume it handles.
So as far as importing on a faster machine and copying it over to the server...what suggestions do you have? , Well I have the web hosting tech looking into the memory issues at this point. Unfortunately I don't have another machine to be able to run the asp on that would run it correctly so that I can just publish it over. , Hi,
Ok, well... you have a lot of stuff going on there.
More importantly than that.. you cant even log into the admin area using the admin account. There is something majorly wrong with the installation.
I also notice you havent even saved any path settings in the settings page of the admin area. I am looking that over now and filling in the missing info. That information needs to be populated. , I believe that solved the problem as I have not heard from this person since I sent him the code., That carrot doesn't really exist in the file, so I'm not sure.
I did download and place the ASPTEST file in www.drsweisberg.com/asptest and when I try to load the 2 pages it fails to load. I have another site on the same server and I uploaded the same exact set of files and the asp pages load. www.klarman.com/asptest
http://www.drsweisberg.com/asptest/server_info.asp
http://www.klarman.com/asptest/server_info.asp
This is how I set the connection:
ConnectionString = "DBQ=D:\clients\rklarman\klarman\asptest\_database\asptest.m db;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp"
ConnectionString = "DBQ=D:\clients\rklarman\drsweisberg\asptest\_database\aspte st.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp" , That worked...but when I tried importing the test user, the password was imported in an add formated...like it was encrypted, and I can't log in using the User ID that I imported., Christopher We are actually having a lot of problems with this software.
Apart from the above problem of the email not being in the database as details above we also do not get any reply emails from any forms, the mass email button does not appear and the forgotten password does not send emails either.
We have CDONTS Version: 2.80 Installed as the email system, this is operational on the server. I have tested this with server_info.asp to check.
I can email you direct any other information you may need.
Regards , Your users with Internet Explorer may have received the "Page Expired" error. For ASPProtect users, it happens when the user is not logged on and tries to invoke the target page. check_user_inc.asp puts up the login form, and IE sees it as part of the target page. Any later attempt to Back up and reload from cache gives the errror.
My solution was, after successful login, instead of falling through the bottom of check_user_inc.asp and running the target page, I issue a re-direct to reload the target page. I also added META tags on the dynamic login form to say no-cache and expire now, so the re-direct really does reload the target page. This time, of course, check_user_inc.asp does not need to put up the login form, and the new target page in cache contains no form at all. So, IE will not give a Page Expired error when Backing up to it later.
Netscape, and I gather other browsers, do not behave the same way, so I limited the solution to IE. Also, the solution only works if the target page has no form of its own.
I'm uploading my customized version of check_user_inc.asp that contains this solution. (In it, I also used the Javascript focus method to place the "cursor" in the Username field when the login form loads.)
2004-11-22_050940_check_user_inc.zip cwilliams38313.494537037, expiration dates are not used in aspprotect's database when signing someone up using PayPal subscriptions because the PayPal system keeps track of all of that and will automatically send posts to the approtect system if a user needs to be deactivated for not paying or for whatever reason.
As you will notice in that thread about subscriptions the paypal signup data you use for the person determines their membership pricing and details.. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=186& ;PN=1
Basically the system takes care of everything. PayPal takes care of everything.
However you want to look at it.

I have already set the folder permissions as indicated in the documentation. , Oh, I just remembered something.. It's been a while since I did this... :)
Nevermind what I said above as that is a different sort of "debug"
When you want to debug like your talking about find this section in the "web.config"
<compilation defaultLanguage="vb" debug="false" />
change it to this
<compilation defaultLanguage="vb" debug="true" />
When you run the code in a production environment change it back though

, again I will ask you what is the real error??
see the link above when I asked you the 1st time. (I need the error details and line number.. etc etc)
and what kind of a server are you trying to run it on ? you mention xp pro but in a confusing way ? , I am having an issue with the Thumbnailing process. My host does not support ASPImage so I have to use something called asp thumbnailer which is similar to ASPImage. I am trying to modify the Dundas upload to automatically reduce the images to create thumbnails. I ripped out the asp image code and replaced with the bottom. The main issue I believe is grabbing the image files. I am not sure how to name the actual image file that is already uploaded by the dundas upload. the code is below:
The peices in red are where the issue is I believe. What you see below is my attempt to identify the exact image and then rename it tthumbnail. My optimal solution would be to take the picture, resize it and rename it exactly what it was named before.
Any ideas
Thanks
<% Else %>
<% Dim thumbObj Set thumbObj = Server.CreateObject("ASPThumbnailer2.Thumbnail") If thumbObj.LoadFromWeb("../pictures/" & Filename) Then thumbObj.ThumbMaxDimension = 140 If thumbObj.CreateThumbnailToWeb("../pictures/Thumbnail.jpg") Then Response.Write("Thumbnail successfully created.") Else Response.Write("There was an error creating the thumbnail.") End If Else Response.Write("<p><hr><b>Unable to load the original image.</b><hr>") End If

Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0400'
Expected statement
/asplog/check_user_inc.asp, line 404 End If
^ Is this a standard database connection error so I should ask my IIS to make sure permissions are correct? Thanks..! , Do what it says so you can see the real error and then post that information here. It could be anything from incorrect permissions to whatever.cwilliams38454.4272916667, Did you see this thread. It shows how to set up the project in Visual Studio in detail.

, Editing the look of the login page.
In this version editing the look of the login page is very easy. You can make this login page look exactly like you web site if you like.
You want to edit the "scripts/login_form_inc.asp" file.
It can be edited with any editor as long as the existing bits of server side code in it and the login form remain in tact.
The best thing to do is back it up before you start editing it. Then if you goof it up you can revert back to the original.
If you edit this page with FrontPage enable the "show all" feature. Its the little PIE sign in your icons. It will show the server side code as yellow things on the screen so you know where they are and can be careful not to delete them.
see screenshot
 cwilliams38448.8132638889, ok, I just sent you a private message with download information.
replace you existing
"check_user_inc.asp"
"admin/check_admin_inc.asp"
"admin/email_user.asp"
with the new versions in the download
Do some testing to make sure that HANNAH password works ok for you.
Hopefully this cures the issue... If it works ok for you for a while I will offer the fixes to everyone and start using this code from now on
BTW: "admin/email_user.asp" had an unrelated bug in it that only happened if its error handling got triggered... it was posting back to the wrong page when that happened and causing an error , thats not good.. its a web server configuration issue of some sorts ?
post is a common method for forms.. if it is not supported it is something you should ask the server admins about.
Is this a windows based web server running true microsoft ASP because that error is usally associated with non windows IIS based web servers from what I can see by doing a google search ?
ASPProtect only runs on windows servers running IIS and True Microsoft ASP. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo165-1.htm
My guess is your web server is running Apache Unix or something like that. , Is the user ID case sensetive? In my case I use the user email as the login ID., This is a great article for newbies..
Hints & Tips when working with ASP http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/common_sense.asp cwilliams38436.5949768519, Hi,
You see, an include file is no different then a link to an image or graphic. The path to the include file must of course be valid. That file isn't in the same directory as that page so you get an error.
You simply need to make the call to the include file valid.
See my article on server side includes. http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
You should also look at some of the provided example pages and see how the paths to the include files are done.
You can also use a virtual include if you figure out the page for that. See my article for the difference between a file include and a virtual include.
The code generator in the admin area shows examples of both but depending on your site structure the paths may need to be slightly edited.
Server Side Includes are a fundamental part of using ASP and they are used a lot. Once you understand how include files are used you will think it is the simplest thing.

http://www.minwar.com/24 , well, I need more details..
you got SQL server or data connection issues is pretty much the bottom line
If I remember right we went down this road with a SQL setup quite a while back (auguest 2005) and that never really got resolved
here it is http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=321&KW =yiak
, Humm, I can see all those pages loading just fine at both domains so you got me pretty confused at this point as you just said they didnt load.
regardless, the data connection tests are failing with both of them.
so let me ask you again how are you setting permissions on the database folders? , Most likely it is no longer supported on the web server. The web host probably moved you site to a windows 2003 server which does not support cdonts or they stopped running the IIS SMTP server.
You usualy wont get an error..
it is also possible that cdonts is boned up as it is pretty flaky and that tends to happen. For example sometimes the emails it is suppost to send get caught up in the smtp pickup directory and never get sent out until the server is rebooted.
You should really ask the hosting company why cdonts has stopped working. It definetly has nothing to do with the code if it has been working all that time. If CDONTS still is supportd tell them you emails are in limbo. Ask them to look and see if a bunch of ".eml" files are stuck in the stmp pickup directly and if so to please reboot the server.
lastly: cdonts has been deprecated and now everyone uses cdosys. see my article http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/sending_email_cdosys.asp
, I checked the SQL table and had 1 banner with no zone ID. I added it in
directly through the SQL interface and now it seems to be ok., ok, you can edit the look of it but because it is licensed software the links to aspbanner and the aspbanner logo.. etc etc must remain otherwise change it all you like., I wouldn't bother doing that. If pic uplading doesn't work it is most likely permissions to the directory pictures are uploaded to. If they are not set correctly it will not work. That dir needs the same permissions the database folder needs. , Ya, you must have tried to upgrade from a really really old version like you said which wouldnt really work out because those instructions are specifically for upgrading a version 6 database to version 7.
That line error you had was looking for the User_ID field and I bet the version you had was so old that you didnt have a field named that as a few years ago the field "ID" got renamed to "User_ID"
As for all the cool stuff... yup there is a lot of cool stuff in this version... glad ya like it so far cwilliams38418.8164930556,
