Did you ever figure out the process for VS2005?, There are 8 Access Levels by default.. they work like this.

Access Levels exist in ASPProtect Version 7 for backward compatibilty for customers using previous versions.
Truth is Groups are the replacement for Access Levels and they are much more powerful and flexible. You can also make as many of them as you want in the admin area.

On a side note:
We also coded ASPProtect Version 7 so there could technically be as many access levels as you wanted. It's not supported but if you really wanted more Access Levels you would carefully add more Access Levels to the drop down choices when you edit a user. "edit.asp"
I don't know why anyone would want to use Access Levels however when they can use Groups.

system working. I can log in and log out as a user. My problem is I
want the pages
accesses by Members ONly. The database will contain the names of
the members and only they are allowed access, and no one else. I
tried Joe Blow to log in and it worked, the only thing is Joe was not
in the database and he should have been locked out and a page come us
saying something like "you are not a registered user, please complete
the membership application" and then link back to the root web,
application page.
I am also afraid of breaking the codes you provided thus far. I also
want the password protected pages in a sub-web of the root web.
This may sound like elementary stuff, but this newbie is having
constant trouble. I am also referencing books on ASP and Access
and VB and still come up with a dead end. Search the net and come up
with a few codes which are described as something I am looking for, but
dont want to add any thing like that for fear of breaking the whole
thing.

Something is wrong like I said... almost seems like the database is caching old password info from the field., As I'd said in my previous response, I found those databases and they didn't work. All three databases in asptest do work., Sounds crazy. I recently took over this web site and all IT duties. User today said member area was not working. All pages would not display. After restoring some files I got the members area partially working. But I cannot find where the database sits. I am able to get in and view users in the admin are and log in as a member. Thanks., I am trying to set up ASP protect 6 and have a problem that when a new user registers their email is not transferred to the database.
I can see the rest of their entries both in the database and in the admin/edit form but not the email.
Any ideas?

These requirments are directly linked to from the ASPProtect v7 web page, so its not like I dont try to tell people the deal regarding SQL server.
Basically I only have the resources to provide scipts and instructions for using SQL Enterprise Manager and that is all I officially support. I also personally think anyone using a SQL Server should be using SQL Enterprise Manager because later on down the road there are things you may want to do such as backups/etc etc

If your application can post to the page and provide all the form variables needed to log in it may work out for you..
You'll have to try it out... all the form variables needed are in that login form example.
Basically you'd be posting to a protected (.asp) page..
and providing the following for the most part.. how your app creates it post data is on your end...

As an alternate scenario...
Now, by default the "check_user_inc.asp" file is looking for posted form data... for security reasons it is not looking for querystring info..
If you change this bit of code in that file

to
Username = Replace(Request("Username"),"'","''")
Password = Request("Password")
It will then grab either form or querystring data...
Meaning you wouldn't necessary have to create a true post to the page with form data. You could just access the page via a querysting like so

Of course that introduces security risks as the username and password would be passed in plain text over the net
Another option is...
You can also make a copy of the "check_user_inc.asp" page called whatever with those modifications just to use in pages you need your little application to post to... thus reducing the security concerns a a bit as the rest of yoru site could still have its pages protected under the normal scenario.
I hope this answers your question... I havent really ever tried any of this but that is how I think it would work... , We can't seem to find the purchase emails for this install of ASPProtect.

For this to work, the search engine must pass the PW to the web site. I just was not sure how to do the same thing with IPs. I will play with the code and see what happens. If it works, I will post it here to help others, if this is OK with forum rules.

, I have accessed the "get_me_in.asp" page and entered the password encryption key. Once I entered it, I was taken to the ASPProtect Admin Area Login. It does not give me the option to create a new user as is described in the general installation documentation. , The problem was in config_inc.asp. we had renamed the field in the DB but didn't change it in this file.
But we changed it, it is back to normal.

, I do not really know a lot about but it is basically code that lets you specify however many number of images and links... and then display a certain number of them at once.
You'd have to search google for it.. there are 1000 of sites that offer free javascript code and that is where you find scripts like that.
You could certainly set up all the images and links for each banner in aspbanner but if you used them with code like that you be limited to tracking clicks on banners. Tracking page impressions would not be possible because the javascript would be handling what images get displayed at any given time. Basically each link for each image would be going through aspbanners tracking url feeding it the banner id and therefore tracking the click and sending the user to the desirec URL.
Regardless, it is not something I would support. You would have to sort it out as it is nothing ASPBanner was designed to do and not something I want to deal with because client side javascript code is not something I am NOT very good with. , basically one at a time because of limitations of the file uploads that browsers can support

Sounds like an issue with the way that browser handles and puts together html/flash in relation to the layout of your site which is fairly complex
less likely - could also be related to computer processor/resources as that is a decent sized flash file and could bog down certain machines on the client level.. internet connection as well ?

ASPProtect as you know does not support ServerObjects ASPMail component by default.
Here are directions to make it work.
In the ASPProtect admin settings area simply pretend as if you are using the softartisans sasmtp mailer component. ASPMail and that sasmtp component share the same properties… and the code used for them is nearly identical.
So search through the code for any place where email is sent and simply change
Set Mailer = Server.CreateObject("SoftArtisans.SMTPMail")
To
Set Mailer = Server.CreateObject("SMTPsvg.Mailer")
It is about 4 places. They are not too hard to find.
That’s the easy way to get all the emailing functions working with ASPMail

I dont use anything regarding SQLMAIL in the ASPProtect code.
I think I might need to go in so I can debug a bit. Everything seems to work fine with a SQL installation here so I just don't know at the moment.
If that is ok with you I would need ftp access or something so I can trry a few things and hopefully figure it out. Admin access to the aspprotect admin area as well so I can see what you have set up in there.

, Still not having much success. I am using SQL server. I changed the permission in the following directory :sql server data\mssql\data. Is that the database directory you are referring to?, The main root of your web site needs a "aspnet_client" folder for .NET apps like ASPProtect.NET to run.
If this isnt quite right one of two things can happen.
1.) You'll get a pop-up error like this.
'Unable to find script library WebUIValidation.js'
2.) The ASPProtect login screen will come up but just not let you log in.
This folder only goes in the root. Not in subfolders and subwebs.
If you dont have this folder in the root of your web.
Read this article to learn how to properly create the folder.

If the app is installed on a hosted server you'll need to ask them to do that for you.

We received ASP Banner 8.2 with our puchase which we now have a need for. I went to put the files on our webpage, and doing nothing else other than locating the directory there, I noticed differences with how ASP Protect operates. We have customized it a bit and want to keep the 2 programs separate. the login screen for one showed up on the other, and some ASP Protect pages appeared altered so i immediately deleted ASP Banner. did I do something wrong, and how can i ensure the 2 programs work completely independant of each other? We can't risk braking what we're now using but would really like to add banner functionality to some of our pages. maybe an update to the program before we install? puchase new software? Session("Groups") will contain the ID numbers of whatever groups the user is a part of.
It does not store the descriptive name of that group. It will show the same data that is actually stored in the "Groups" field in the database.
for example it might hold a value like this

, Not really. The way I thought activity would work is that I would always see the last 50 users. Not sure what controls that and why I wasn't seeing it, but it sounds like it is an IIS thing and since my site is not all that busy, it will not show the users if some process has reset the numbers. Not a big deal.
As for the log files, I think it is related to my other question regarding the export directory. I have the ISP looking into things at thier end to see if they are doing anything that could cause the directories to disappear.

, Chris, that fixed it. Found 2-references to guestbook2 in the file show_messages_inc.asp located in the \guestbook\ directory.
Suggestion for future release. Create an option to email the admin when a message is posted. If this code already exists please advise.

, recent activity infomation is temporary and mantains itself per application start up.. when the web application restarts for whatever reason the info is reset
a reboot, an iisreset on the server, application pool restarts, etc etc
this is done because if that info was saved in the database your database would get huge real quick
