at this point I would say install a fresh untouched copy in the web in a different directory and lets see if it acts weird from scratch.. the we can go from there.. I dont know what is going on , Not really sure how to do this.... i think you know what i am looking to do.. is there anyway you can show me or create that solution for me? one more question.
To use the bulk upload feature of aspuload, do I just need to add another upload section to the same upload page, that will allow more than one file to be selected then tell it to put the files in as Photo 1, 2, 3 etc.? I am a rookie at ASP but I think this is possible and with a little research I should be able to get it going.

I edited the RC4 function in the "config_inc.asp" file like I mentioned
so the function now looks like this which just acts as a passthrough and really does nothing

Sorry, but the way the system works you can not call an individual banner like that. It just not something the system was meant to do.
If you wanted a specific banner to show up at all times you would have to make an individual banner and a zone just for that.
After looking at your site since you have so many banners there I dont know if that is the greatest option for you. It would also put a lot of stress of the Version 7 software because it is not really meant to call so many banners zones at one time on one page.
If you could live with tracking clicks on the home page but not displays I would suggest making banners for the home page in one zone. Then hard coding the banner images into your homepage like you already do but linking to the tracking part of aspbanner instead of where they would usually link to. That way you could at least track clicks and there owuld be no performance issues.
for example.. one of the images might link to
http://www.poconocommuter.com/aspbanner/banner_redirect.asp? Banner_ID=4
which would track clicks for you.. and then send then wherever they are supposed to go

I know you were responding to an existing thread but I really would rather you have posted this in the ASPProtect Lite area or at least mentioned what version you are using. Usually there are big differences in the versions and it helps me help you if I know what is going on.
Regardless, the code for this feature is actually the same and I just tested a fresh install of the lite version and it stored that verify url perfectly and all worked as it should in the verification email.
All I can think of is that you can try manually editing the "users/add_new_account.asp" file.

Would need your verify URL hardcoded into it which would pretty much guarantee it would get put in the email.

Of course change the url to be valid for your setup.
Still, the fact that this isn't working means there is something wrong with your installation. It would probably be a good idea to erase everything, do an iisreset, and re-install the application in a different directory... immediatly log and go to the settings page, carefully set everything and save it... then register as a new user and see what happens.
There is no reason that variable shouldn't get set. I mean I tested it just now with a fresh install of the version you are using and not only that... 1000's of people have been using that same code for over a year in the full version and no one has had this problem except the guy who started this thread who never populated the value.
My guess is still a problem with your "IIS application" for that web. It is not doing it's thing for some reason. When the settings page is saved and application variable gets set telling the config file to reload the variables as it doesn't do it every time to conserve resources.
If that isn't getting triggered and that variable isn't getting set who knows what else isn't getting set and it's not pratical going around hardcoding 15 important variables., I agree -- don't use the code as is. I provided it only as an idea for a work-around if your ASPProtect users with Internet Explorer complain about the Page Expired message.
I did not test it to be sure the parms coming into the target page (which would be part of the URL when bookmarking) are properly preserved. It would be easy to make sure they are preserved, but I am not sure the code in the example does that. I also customized the code with my own page header and footer.
I have the Option Pack but the site does not need it yet so I haven't applied it. I don't expect many problems re-applying my few lines of modifications.
The IE behavior is not a big deal if you provide an explicit login page, since users would have less interest in paging back to that. In my case, I simply gave a link to a protected part of the site, and when they take that link, they instead get the login form if they aren't logged on. Once they log on, they get their desired content page, to which they sometimes want to page back later on.
From searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base and other sources, I could not find a way (using HTML) to turn off IE's behavior of refusing to quietly reload a page containing form data. Netscape does not do this. So my IE workaround is to ensure my target page does not contain the login form. It does not solve the cause of the problem, but in this case it gets rid of the Page Expired error message for my IE users.
I also purchased ASPProtect for another site, and I'm using that "out of the box" unmodified. I'm very pleased with ASPProtect's functionality and the fact that it works completely without the need to customize. However, I've found it is very easy to customize if I want to.

Puli Club of America , All this being said installing the desktop version of SQL may be a little tricky as it may complain that your SA account needs a strict password.
The solution is to run the SQL Desktop setup.exe with some parameters specifying a password for the SA account.
So you go to the command prompt or make a shortcut to the setup file and run something like this
setup.exe SAPWD="YourPassword"
minus the quotes...

The other thing to remember is it might take a reboot to actually see the SQL server icon running in the taskbar. You may also need to go into the administrative services and enable the "SQLSERVERAGENT" as well as set its startup type to "automatic"

I do not even see ASPUpload listed but when I run the test_asp_components.asp from the extras/more_component_info folder, it shows that it is installed.

yeah thats it, you buy into a part of the sql server so it's an sql server hotel... , Is it actually possible, with your product, to password-protect the folder that has the actual database without having to require customers browsing the listings to enter a password, or will password-protecting the database folder prevent customers from browsing the classifeds listings? , Some users have reported an error during the registration process.
Here is what I believe is happening.
When you register you get sent a validation email that has a link in it that looks something like this.

That link can only be clicked on once which will activate your account.
If you somehow run that link more than once you will get a message telling you there was an error.
I think some people are double clicking on the link they get sent and running it more than once.... or clicking on it again after registration is complete. It probably happens very fast so they never see the success screen.
Either way, if you can login to the forum nothing is wrong and you are already activated. cwilliams38089.6248842593, Ahhh....yes, I always forget about the cache. That's exactly what it was.
I had made modifications to the import_pics.asp file, because I added more fields to the db, and made the import folder path dynamic, but I seem to have forgotten to add in the response.expires=0
Once I added this back in it has stopped messing up.
What was happening was, it wasn't overwriting the files, nor were they too big, but you would click on one thumbnail in an album(category) and it would display a picture from a totally different category. It seems browser cache was the culprit, however.

Yes.. for ASP server side code to run the page extension must be ".asp". I was gonna mention that but I guess I just didnt think anyone would do that.

VBScript is the most popular ASP scripting language, and has the most support available. I estimate that less than 5% of the ASP coders out there use anything other than vbscript
That being said it specifically says on the aspprotect site ASPProtect is only for use in protecting asp using "vbscript" as the language.

Sorry, but you can not use ASPProtect to protect pages using Language="Javascript". The code is too complex to be mixed with server side Javascript.
To password protect asp pages written using "Javascript" you really need a an application specifically written in and designed to work with ASP pages written using "Javascript". And then of course that application would not be able to protect ".asp" pages written using "vbscript." (I mean never say never, but it would be a ton of work to get both working and I doubt you will ever see a commercial application that does both)
as for switching back and forth between vbscript and javascript you really can't except with very simple code. Doing so with anything complex can be extremely problematic because the order of execution sometimes gets all mixed up because of the complexity of the code being used.
That doesn't mean it can not work....
You would really want to do something like this.
do not specify a default language at the top
surround the aspprotect include file with this

surround your javascript code with this

then make sure none the code including the aspprotect include file has any <% or %> tags in it
that means you have to remove that sort of thing everywhere... that means a lot of work if you used a lot of that sort of thing instead of response.writes to write out html type stuff
and again... I don't know if you would ever get it all working ,

, Now, back in the dark ages we had to use the command prompt to setup the MySQL database and all that fun stuff. I am not going to show you that method.
What happened was 100 different 3rd party companies developed interfaces to work with the MySQL server visually. Within the past year MySQL actually released its own little GUI for doing just that so I am going to show you how to do things using that.
Let's download and install it.
Go here

and download Windows (x86) MySQL Administrator
(1.1 is the most current version at the time of this article)
Installing that is a no-brainer as well. Just stick to the defaults and it will do its thing.
Now that it is finished.. run MySQL Administrator from your start menu.
It will ask for your "root" password that we entered when we set up the server.
Hit OK
You should see this if your MySQL server is runnign and you entered the correct password.
Now select the Catalogs Icon on the right.. go down to the Schemata section.. right click in the lower white area and choose Create New Schema
It will look like this
Essentially this is your database name. I am going to call my database "aspbanner"
Hit ok
Your now have a new database with nothing in it. We now need to run the MySQL database creation scripts that I provide which will create the Tables and Fields needed.
The easiest way when using the MySQL Administrator is to select the Restore icon on the left.
The choose "Open Backup File" in the lower right corner.. Browse to the "aspbanner_mysql.sql" file we provide. You can also download that file here. 2006-03-14_164927_MySQL_Script.zip
Once you select that file choose open...
Now, it is very important you choose the database you created earlier. Also known as Target Schema.. in this case I choose "aspbanner"
Now hit "Start Restore"
Ok, now the database has Tables and Fields
Click on the Catalogs Icon on the left and then select aspbanner from the schemata area in the lower left
You'll see we now have tables in the aspbanner database, I purchased 6.0 in Feb 05. Is there an upgrade price to 7.0
I spent considerable time setting up 6.0 to work with my web site. From what I read in the forum, it sounds like I have to start over again to integrate the new version into our web site. I do not relish the thought of that, but I have to move to an email system with a valid MX record.
Will I be starting over from scratch with this upgrade?

As far as the log in goes: I went to that site you mentioned;www.CafePress.com to see if they had what i was talking about. and they do. Notice on the bottom of the page it says "sign in to your account"
I want that option on my home page where users can sign in to go to their account. It will either take them to a page where they can update their info, or it will take them to a protected page. Pretty much instead of posting a link on the site to say... click here to go to members.aspx and have it return an "access denied" the user can enter their info from the main page and be automatically re-directed to that members.aspx page.
I know how the viewstate works and i also know what that returnURL thing does..pretty self-explanitory.
Hopefully that makes things easier. I just want a user to log in from the homepage and be redirected to either a protected page or their account page...

Its just not enough information to go on. I need more details on what is going on. There are a lot of configuration settings in these applications. I really do not know what to make of that screen shot.
My 1st guess is that if you cannot delete a picture that the picture folder does not have delete permissions ??
I also need to mention that I am not sure what this has to do with ASPImage ? , 5 Computers in an office, random hardware and operating systems. Some wireless some wired - all the same ISP connection.
Some users do not see the PLACE A NEW AD hyperlink. How can this be hidden? There is no conditional statement yet some see it and others don't.
To make this problem even more confusing if I take an image and put the place_new_ad.asp hyperlink on that image the users don't even see that image any longer.
How can this be resolved? , I do not really know a lot about but it is basically code that lets you specify however many number of images and links... and then display a certain number of them at once.
You'd have to search google for it.. there are 1000 of sites that offer free javascript code and that is where you find scripts like that.
You could certainly set up all the images and links for each banner in aspbanner but if you used them with code like that you be limited to tracking clicks on banners. Tracking page impressions would not be possible because the javascript would be handling what images get displayed at any given time. Basically each link for each image would be going through aspbanners tracking url feeding it the banner id and therefore tracking the click and sending the user to the desirec URL.
Regardless, it is not something I would support. You would have to sort it out as it is nothing ASPBanner was designed to do and not something I want to deal with because client side javascript code is not something I am NOT very good with. , well, you should probably be backing up the SQL database on a regular basis. That is between you and hosting company. If they let you connect via SQL Enterprise Manager you can do backups on your own.
As far as the aspprotect files and folders go back them up somewhere, and then only worry about backing them up again if you change some of the files.
That's really all there is to it. None of the ASPProtect files change on their own except the generated log files that you may or may not care about backing up.
I mean the important thing is the Database, and then of course any your own .asp pages that you protected as well as any custimizations you made to the users area or your site... , How can i get to this to register someone in the database only after the Paypal payment has been accepted. I was testing it out to see if it makes it to my Paypal account (which it did just fine) then I closed Paypal before paying. I logged in as the administrator and looked at the member list and the account was created anyway. How can I stop this from being created until "only" after the Paypal payment has been "approved"?
What if this person never comes back to "try again"? Now the username he used (and is inactive) is not available for anyone else to use. And it takes up database space.

scottyFlasher , These are 4 valid examples of calling a flash movie.
The more simple examples may cause problems for people that don't have the flash plugin installed. I really do not know as I am no flash expert. All these work fine for me. Of course I have the latest flash plugin installed. Perhaps some of you can shed some light in this. The 3rd and 4rth examples are obviously only slightly different and mention different versions of flash as far as downloading the plugin goes.

What method of displaying the banners are you using. Perhaps try some of the other ones.
Don't use the javascript method with a javascript based ad like google.. that's for sure. cwilliams38454.8903472222, also, from looking at your site your ideal scenario would be a system that allows you to show all banners in one zone at any given time but in a different order.
ASPBanner is just not that sort of system. It is only designed to show one banner at a time from a given zone in random order.,
