Blog Entry: 3/25/2006 1:43:55 PM
Just installed sofware everything works fine except I see no way to upload any photos. There is no reference or link to allow an upload on any of the asp pages (I have surfed them all). I am sure it is something simple, but I am not aware. I am using SQL2000., 1) Does everything, i.e. every user, every category, every product, etc., get stored in just one single database, or are there multiple databases at work and are linked to one another? I am asking because there is only one table in the DB, and it is the "Users" table. So I am presuming that there must be other databases that are linked to the DB. Is this correct?
2) Are user-level security permissions utilized in the sample Access DB that is shipped with the software? I am asking because we cannot seem to remove the "temp" password no matter what we try, and this is the only reason I can think of.
,
I purchased 6.0 in Feb 05. Is there an upgrade price to 7.0
I spent considerable time setting up 6.0 to work with my web site. From what I read in the forum, it sounds like I have to start over again to integrate the new version into our web site. I do not relish the thought of that, but I have to move to an email system with a valid MX record.
Will I be starting over from scratch with this upgrade?
, did you fix it because I see all the pictures just fine ?
http://mcintoshcounty.org/real_estate/view_item.asp?Ad_ID=1
, I wouldn't bother doing that. If pic uplading doesn't work it is most likely permissions to the directory pictures are uploaded to. If they are not set correctly it will not work. That dir needs the same permissions the database folder needs. , you actually dont touch any of those
UploadDirectory = CmdGetConfiguration("UploadDirectory")
They get set from the config table in the database which gets edited in the admin area.
so...
I am talking about the settings area in the admin area of the applicaton.
Every setting there is descibed in detail. You get there and change serttings there via the web browser and by logging in as the admin.
Log in to the online demo as admin and check out the settings area if you are confused.
http://www.aspphotogallery.com/demo_pro.asp
, ConnectionString = "DBQ=C:\TradersReportsCom\aspprotect\data\database\ASPProtec t_access2002.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp"
I have already set the folder permissions as indicated in the documentation.
, Thanks Chris, It's not normal at all. My guess you accidently edited the code in a bad way.
(thats the same code the every guestbook in every application I sell uses including ASPGuest which gets downloaded for free about 50 times a day)
No one has ever said it acted funny.
I would do a default installation with the original code somewhere and see if the problem occurs. If it does I can take a look.
In the meantime I wouldn't be running that as it is probably using up massive processor time because of whatever is wrong with it.
cwilliams38454.954212963, That is by design and how it is designed to function.
There is no easy way to do what you are asking about.
Can it be done ?, sure!!
But it is a lot of custom coding to sort it all out and not something we support.
If I were you I would simply edit the login box screen to show some hyperlinks and options should a person need to use them. , Seems as though changing the mail settings to "remote email server" did the trick.
, also, just to show you what happens when a user creates a subscription this is the code. you can see in red where the subscrition is is set and also where the exp date is set to null
If txn_type = "subscr_signup" Then
Set ConnPasswords = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
Set CmdEditUser = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
ConnPasswords.Open ConnectionString
SQL = "SELECT " & tbl_label_users & ".* FROM " & tbl_label_users & " WHERE (User_ID = " & User_ID & ")"
CmdEditUser.Open SQL, ConnPasswords, 1, 3
CmdEditUser.Fields("Active") = "1"
CmdEditUser.Fields("Validated") = "1"
CmdEditUser.Fields("PayPal_Subscriber_ID") = subscr_id
CmdEditUser.Fields("Notes") = "Successful PayPal Subscription Signup on " & Date
CmdEditUser.Fields("Expiration_Date") = Null
If Access_Level <> "" Then
CmdEditUser.Fields("Access_Level") = Access_Level
End If
If Groups <> "" Then
CmdEditUser.Fields("Groups") = Trim(Groups)
End If
CmdEditUser.Update
CmdEditUser.Close
Set CmdEditUser = Nothing
ConnPasswords.Close
Set ConnPasswords = Nothing
End If , I am not sure. I can tell you that I run windows 2003 server and I have never had any issues setting permissions for ASP.NET files and folders. This very server is 2003 and the ASPProtect.NET demo runs on this server as well.
Course, I can't say that I have specifically tried to remove ASP.NET READ permissions on the database folder as it's just not something I would not have a reason to do. Why are you trying to do that? The ASP.NET account needs that permission. If you are trying to stop file browsing and downloading in that folder that is not how you do that. The best way to do that is by keeping the database somewhere else on the server that is not part of the http web. , Yes, you are right. That was the problem. Sorry
Cheers

These Settings:
Picture upload feature settings. |
Use_Picture_Upload |
< = value=True name=Use_Picture_Upload> Check this if you will be using the picture uploading feature. |
UploadDirectory |
< size=60 value=C:\Inetpub\virtuals\aspphotogallery.com\Web\demo\pictu res name=UploadDirectory> Example: "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ASPPhotoGallery\pictures" Ask your server admin if you are not sure. This directory needs proper permissions for the SAFILEUP component or the VBSCRIPT solution to work correctly. It basically needs to same permissions as the database directory would need when using Microsoft Access. |
PictureURL |
< size=60 value=http://www.aspphotogallery.com/demo/pictures name=PictureURL> Example: "http://p600laptop/ASPPhotoGallery/pictures" This is the web URL of the the upload directory specified above. |
Use_SAFILEUP_Upload |
< = value=SAUP name=Upload_Solution> This option will enable file uploads using a component called SAFILEUP which is high end upload component available from www.softartisans.com. It is far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution. It is highly recommended for a busy site. If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error. |
Use_ASPUPLOAD_Upload |
< = value=ASPUPLOAD name=Upload_Solution> This option will enable file uploads using a component called ASPUPLOAD which is high end upload component available from www.persits.com. It is also far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution. It is highly recommended for a busy site. If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error. |
Use_DUNDAS_Upload |
< = value=DUNDAS name=Upload_Solution> This option will enable file uploads using a (FREE) component called DUNDAS UPLOAD which is a high end upload component available from www.dundas.com. It is also far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution. It is highly recommended for a busy site. If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error. |
Use_VBSCRIPT_Upload |
< = value= name=Upload_Solution> This option will enable file uploads using a pure VBSCRIPT solution. It requires VBSCRIPT version 5 or higher to be installed on the server. The solution usually works fine, but has been reported to cause memory leaks on XP machines. |
, Really awesome, thanks..
If possible please be sure to respond to the email they send so the review ends up authenticated
, say ?
How do you like LiveSTATS.xsp V7 ?
Looks pretty sweet but the pricing is just too much for me to justify as I am very happy with smarterstats and I host a lot of sites now.
I used to use Livestats 5 back in the day when we had a 50 domain license where I worked and hosted my sites. I liked it a lot then I tried the version 6.2 that they had for a while and hated it. Version 5 still runs well on 2003 server but it has such outdated search engine information that it isnt worth using. cwilliams38324.8862847222, Help!.. I need to export the username and password fields to a mail merged letter so everyone knows their username and passwords. However whenever i access the database or do an export. The passwords showup as encrypted. Is there a way to access the list, un encrypted?
thanks
, ASPProtect v7 comes with working example code of protecting a file download.
This comes with the system as an example folder with some files in it.
(some of the initial purchaser's of the system might not have that directory.. if that is the case please ask)
Here is how it works...
Basically we protect the file download by only allowing a logged in user to download it. The special ".asp" page we use the stream the file is password protected. It also hides the true location of the file so you can keep your files out of your web or keep them in a folder in your web that does not allow file browsing. Under this scenario even if someone looks at the html source they can not tell where the file really came from and they can only download if they are logged in and you offered them the link to the file.
For the file download protection examples to work you may need to edit some values
in the stream_download.asp file that are valid for your setup.
Look at the source. The values you can edit are commented.
Now, you also need to call a valid "download file name" from the download_link.asp file which is an example of how make a download link to the streamed download.
Lastly, we provide a working example. Now, you obviously may need to customize it to fit your needs. Please realize you are going to have to make special download links in your .asp pages and not only should you only show those links to people with appropriate access to download the files, but you should also protect the streaming download page accordingly as well as far as level, groups, and particular users. What I am saying is which files a particular user is allowed to download is not automatically handled by ASPProtect in any way. We give you all the tools to provide protected downloads to logged in users, but if you have complex needs you’re probably going to need to come up with a system that works for you. It's not really difficult because we did all the complicated stuff, but its something you have to sort out.
Perhaps someday in the future ASPProtect will have an interface to upload files and associate them with certain users. But at the moment it does not.
, If the physical path isnt right and the permissions are not right it just plain will not work. You will not get an error.
If the filesystem object is disabled on the webserver it will not work either.
Something has to be wrong.
Please start a new thread when the topic changes.. thanks
It helps to keep the forums organized for other users in the future.
cwilliams38454.6146180556, lmao ... ya that has never happend to me before....
, I had some issues with passwords not working. I cleared them up by
going to the affected user and typing in the desired password manually
on the edit screen. Worked like a champ every time, and I haven't had
to do that for some time now.
, If it stopped working it has nothing to do with the ASP code. YIf could have stopped for any number of reasons as hosts often change email server requirements and info. You need to go over the email settings. Of course make sure you and the person you are sending to have valid email addresses and try different methods/settings until you get emailing to work again.
Testing it by sending emails off from the users screen.. in each email type in what you are trying at that time so you know what worked if emails make it through. Also, be sure to check junk filters when testing to make sure the emails are not being put in any of those.
That's what I would do. CDOSYS is always your best bet for sending emails as it has so many options and all new server support it. , I am having difficulties importing new Users.
I have exported the existing list and then copied in the additional users and save the file as text (tab delimited) in Exel.
When I go to import the file (browse then upload) I get the following error:
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a03f9'
Expected 'Then'
/aspprotect/password_admin/upload_post.asp, line 6
If Session("Admin") <> "True"
If I upload the text file by FTP and then try to import it it only tends to import the first two existing rows.
All collumns match but not sure if I need to add "User_ID". I have added it and created consequecutive numbers.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks
, I assume so you can clean up users that register, but then never pay ?, Hi Chris
I've just recently purchased ASPBanner and have been testing out serving multiple Tradedoubler code using the IFRAME method. I have four types of banner on the same page refreshing every 15 seconds. (this will change on the live site)
I've been leaving the IE page up for x hours and coming back to find between 1-3 of the banners has stopped and in place is an "internal error".
BannerZone=3&Refresh=15|40|800a0046|Permission_denied 80
I thought it may have been the SQL permissions from one of your other messages so I gave the banner user the DataReader and DataWriter permissions.
Its still happening and around the same time in the logs theres a couple of file not found errors.
BannerZone=2&Refresh=15|23|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159
BannerZone=4&Refresh=15|25|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159
BannerZone=1&Refresh=15|25|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159
Any ideas? I'm hoping its not the server as there is currently only 2 sites on it and this is pretty much the only traffic.
Thanks
Colin
, Aggh.. I put passwords instead of password. Sorry to have bothered you, works fine now. , I do not really know a lot about but it is basically code that lets you specify however many number of images and links... and then display a certain number of them at once.
You'd have to search google for it.. there are 1000 of sites that offer free javascript code and that is where you find scripts like that.
You could certainly set up all the images and links for each banner in aspbanner but if you used them with code like that you be limited to tracking clicks on banners. Tracking page impressions would not be possible because the javascript would be handling what images get displayed at any given time. Basically each link for each image would be going through aspbanners tracking url feeding it the banner id and therefore tracking the click and sending the user to the desirec URL.
Regardless, it is not something I would support. You would have to sort it out as it is nothing ASPBanner was designed to do and not something I want to deal with because client side javascript code is not something I am NOT very good with. , Does ASPProtect 7 work with SQL 2005?, whether you use SSL or not really does not effect aspprotect in any way
I say, the smart thing to do there is too not start them off at a http:// url
one way to do it is put a simple ASP redirect on that default page and send them to an SSL version of the page instead...
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/redirects.asp
another way would be not start them off on a protected page right off the bat and offer links to the the protected area...
in my opinion thats pretty odd to be starting them off on a protected page anyway
SLL maybe, but protected right from the time they hit the default page of the site.. thats just odd.. usually you want o say a little something about the site your at and then link people to protected areas or give them a login form which posts to a protected area.
Regardless if you always want users at your site under https:// you should have code on every single page in your site checking the url info at every page load. Then if someone ever hits a page and is not using the https:// you can do something about it like redirect them to the SSL home poge or redirect to that same page but with the https:// in the url..
, ok, 1st we need to rule out the #1 reason people sometimes think that is not working.
Is is set up never to allow the same IP to increment the count more than once in a row so when testing it is real easy to think the count isn't working because unless you can change your ip you can not increment the count more than once per album
It's a poor mans spam abuse type of deal..
For the most part it will keep some Joker from hitting refresh 100 times and inflating the count of an album.
Do you think that is possible what is happening ?
Also, here is an older thread about the same issue?
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo54-2.htm
, Hi,
I can't seem to find the code where it limits the upload file size. I want to limit the upload size to 1.5 mg for all users. Also I've noticed that the 500 pix doesn't seem to work. As in if an image is bigger than 500 pix the script still uploads it. i am using Upload_post_VBSCRIPT.ASP.
Thanks
, I'll give it a shot within the next day or so. I'm busy with a few other things right now. You're right about just saving a copy before I start. It can't really hurt anything.
Thanks Chris. I'll let you know how it turns out.

, There are 8 Access Levels by default.. they work like this.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=166& ; ; ;PN=1
Access Levels exist in ASPProtect Version 7 for backward compatibilty for customers using previous versions.
Truth is Groups are the replacement for Access Levels and they are much more powerful and flexible. You can also make as many of them as you want in the admin area.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=167& ; ; ;PN=1
On a side note:
We also coded ASPProtect Version 7 so there could technically be as many access levels as you wanted. It's not supported but if you really wanted more Access Levels you would carefully add more Access Levels to the drop down choices when you edit a user. "edit.asp"
I don't know why anyone would want to use Access Levels however when they can use Groups.
cwilliams38433.5546875, There is nothing built in to the system but it is very doable.
However, you need to be a decent asp coder because your going to have to write some code.
Basically you would want to do a check on the screen where a user uploads to count how many pictures they have uploaded.
Then act accordinly and either let them or dont let them proceed.
On a side note the overall filesize limit of the total of all pictures a user can upload can be set when you edit a user.
, Christopher,
I have a follow-up to this question.
Is there a way to get the photo descriptions to save with actual spaces instead of the HTML space code all of the time?
I know that is does this if you hit Enter while typing a description, because it creates a 'br' tag. The main reason I am asking is because if the user does not enter a line break, the description is saved a single long string and the pic_window.asp page is generated with one long description which makes the page very wide.
I tried to get around this by changing the description style in pic_window.asp to reflect a value like 50% or 200 pixels, and I have tried putting it into a table with a fixed width, but there is no effect.
Thanks!

, Thanks for the quick reply!
I was thinking it was an ASP config/install issue.
I usually deal with Linux/PHP, so this is all new to me :)
, Some users have reported an error during the registration process.
Here is what I believe is happening.
When you register you get sent a validation email that has a link in it that looks something like this.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum//activate.asp?ID=testAD3AD2 97BC
That link can only be clicked on once which will activate your account.
If you somehow run that link more than once you will get a message telling you there was an error.
I think some people are double clicking on the link they get sent and running it more than once.... or clicking on it again after registration is complete. It probably happens very fast so they never see the success screen.
Either way, if you can login to the forum nothing is wrong and you are already activated.
Are there any problems with modifying the default database fields.
I need to have an update from net billing and they use different settings in the database than the default.
