My ISP uses ASPSmartMail. The email confirmation works except when I try to register an AOL user the server returns an error 500.

This code is not supported... and you of course must change things accordingly like the variable names and zone numbers to match the zone you want to call banners from as well as the url.

Your suggestion worked - thanks - , - I am using the original files that came with the software.
- The software ads items to the database flawlessly.
- ASPImage works great.
- When I try to remove an ad or an image it says it's been removed.
- The ad does not show up on the site anymore.
- BUT, when looking at the sql database the ad is still listed there.
Why is the software not deleting the columns from the database and the images from folder?
Note: My other tables for other projects, in the database, allow me to delete them.

The application is only designed to have one kind of admin and that kind has full access to the admin area.
You can of course give any user access to stats for their banners via the bannerstats page.
That is how it works. There are no other levels of admin access.

While there is no option in the admin area / asp code we give you here is what I can tell you.
You have the source code and we also use an open database structure. (MSAccess or MSSQL) So that means you can really run any query you want on the database whether with ASP code or directly in your database. You can even tie other systems and code into the database via OBDC and manipulate data. The sky is the limit.
In MSSQL you can run queries in SQL enterprise manager or query analyzer. Using Access you can run queries in query view.
It's really not that hard if you do some research on SQL Statements and how to use them. You can do some very powerful queries and save yourself a lot of time. , That's exactly what it was.
The site owner couldn't see their own ads because Norton was blocking anything with the word ad in it.
On another note: I changed the word 'ad' to 'listing' and got it to show even with Norton.

I can login for the first time. I exit from the browser and then I cannot login again. This happens for every user.
I noticed that the values in the fields "Login_limit" and "Active" in
the ASPP_Users table in the SQL changed to NULL and 0 when login and
remained in those values after close the browser.
If manually I change the values it is ok but the problem repeated.

There is probably a way to make it work but it may require days of fiddling around and reading articles and trying things and even then you may not get it working AND THEN ITS JUST A BAD IDEA ANYWAY. Like John says you are better off running it on a server that is not a domain controller.

, Just to put an end to this thread here is the solution for anyone reading.
The permissions were ok.
The data connection string never got edited in the "dataconn_inc.asp" file so it was invalid the whole time.
Once that was corrected the application ran.
So really this whole thread was over not following the directions and not editing the data connection string...
, sure and thats probably what you should do... that pure asp upload thing must not be able to handle the size of your import file... another thing which can very .. also some versions of IIS require registry changes to upload bigger files via asp code alone
, IT worked just as cwilliams said. I did see the IP address being stored in the table but it didn't dawn on me that it was tied in to the view count, I tried it from a different IP address and it worked great .

That error however probably has more to do with parent paths being disabled on the server., Here are three known bugs and their fixes...
If you have any of these symptoms these fixes will most likely take care of them.
If you don't have a symptom do not make any changes as you most likely have an updated copy of the application.
Technically if you bought that app on or after April 27th 2004 these bugs should all have been corrected.

when you say that what exactly does that mean, because in this version you do not just log in for the 1st time.
What I am saying is there are steps where you run a special page to intially get into the system, then you setup a new user, then you make them an admin, and then you can log in as them.
You left all of that out of your story...
I really need all details in order to help.. is this an upgrade or a new install, etc etc etc
I would also advise very carefully comparing the fields in your sql database to the sql creation scripts to make sure all the field settings are correct.

, Okay, got it!! just in case anyone else is having the same
problem, after creating the new thumbnails using the
"generate_new_thumbnails.asp". Turn off the random photo
selection for a 10 minutes or so, and then turn it back on.
bwinklesky38324.5085069444, As I already had directories in my web site root called 'images' and 'templates' I loaded the files into a sub directory called 'aspprotect' as suggested in the installation guide where it say 'either way it really doesn't matter'.
However, it does.
The scripts are often looking for a file which it can't find because the /aspprotect part of the path is missing. Example:
I can't find a way of editing all the scripts that need changing. I'm assuming it would be easier to change my site to avoid using subdirectories used by aspprotect and reinstalling from scratch straight into the root directory.
Anyone with any suggestions?

I am using the upload_post_VBSCRIPT.asp to upload the pictures. My concern is the security of this. For instance I've seen some sites get hacked by a user uploading a file (going through the same process) and ending up crashing the entire server.
I tried adding .jpeg to the end of a text file (filename.vbs.jpeg) and then uploading it, and the file was actually uploaded. Is this a potential problem?

and dont worry about the extra slash it seems to be adding at the end of the path. That is normal. I guess I need to fix that so it does not add that extra slash., I am using cdont to send email. what do i have to do send email to other display my full name instead of email address. In other word I want to see first name last name in their email client instead of email address.

, one last thing... if you did an upgrade from a previous version and didnt do the whole database field thing right during the upgrade process as stated here you could have trouble.

Meaning you should check your new database with the field structure of an unmodified new database and make sure all field names match up perfectly.. especially paying attention to the username and password fields
One last thing..
If you did an import via text file and didn't import all the fields ASPProtect needs you could possibly have problems as well.. though I don't think this relates to the timeout so it probably is not the case
, This server is sitting in my den on a DSL circuit, so I don't have a hosting company. The install for Windows 2000 server is with default settings for all components installed.
