Sorry, I forgot about that when I got hung up on the install problem.
I'll tackle your explanation now to see if I can get it working. Since I already bought the software I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks , Well. fontpage publishing is evil. That you have found out.
Do not use it. It usually wont work right when running asp code locally and also at the server because of differences with the paths and virtual directory structure. etc etc etc
You can definetly use frontpage to connect to the web site live and drag and drop files into it/edit them... but the sooner you stop using the publishing feature the better off you will be. ,
noted.
1.) this has been explored and because of the way groups works is not feasable. Because us this I wrote code to allow you to view and sort all users for any group on the actual groups page. You pick a groups and then click the "Show Users" button
2.) noted , I have imported like 50,000 users into an access database when testing... it took like 4-5 minutes but worked..
course it really all depends on the setup how many you can get away with
something must still be wrong
have you tried just importing 1 or 2 users for troubleshooting sake ?
I would also recommend that after any timeout you reboot the server or at the very least do an "iisreset" to get things back to normal , I purchased and installed the full version ASPProtect 6.0 in Feb 05 (must have been just before 7.0 came out) and have been using CDONTS for email authorization during the registration process.
It was working fine for about three months. Now, after registering, the email authorization is NOT delivered to the new registrant. There are no error messages. It just doesn't arrive.
Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.
, I have ASPProtect up and running and I was able to log in with little to now problem after following all of the directions.
I imported my data base of users (approx 5300) into the access db, and now it times out just letting me log in.
I've got full access to the web server to make any changes on that end that I need.
any ideas?
,
At the bottom of my "users" list page, it asks the question "number of users displayed per page"? After hitting a larger number than the default of 1-25, it increases the number of users per page to that number. But as soon as I leave that page, it goes back to the default. Any thoughts?
That is how it is supposed to work. It is not supposed to remember that info after you leave. If you want it to always start at some default number simply copy the URL info after picking a number. You'll see the querystrings that tell the page what to do in the address field of your browser. Take that entire URL and edit the button in the admin area to link to that. The links for the buttons are in the "header_inc.asp" file and you should edit that file with a text editor.
That's the easy non technical way to set a default on the users page and that applies to anything including doing a sort or whatever.
example...
you might change this
<a href="default.asp"><img src="../images/users.gif" border="0" alt="Users"></a>
to something like this
<a href="http://www.yoursite.com /aspprotect/password_admin/default.asp?SORTBY=Email+DESC& ;MyPageSize=500="><img src="../images/users.gif" border="0" alt="Users"></a> , do you have "use picture uploading" checked in the settings ? that is important..
have proper permissions been set on the picture folder ?
are the paths set correctly for the picture folder ?, Along with being able to set an expiry date or number of impressions, is it possible to add another option for a banner to be "non-expiring"?
With our current ad software (which we are transferring all data from to ASPBanner), we run banners for both paid advertisers, and for our own services. The banners relating to our own services, we would like to set to "non-expiring" so they appear all the time. , First pass through, I don't see anything changed in the groups section of the check_user asp file. the logoff asp wasn't touched.
I noticed the demo online (on this site) only has pages protected with access levels; you say it works fine with groups also? , I am having an issue with the Thumbnailing process. My host does not support ASPImage so I have to use something called asp thumbnailer which is similar to ASPImage. I am trying to modify the Dundas upload to automatically reduce the images to create thumbnails. I ripped out the asp image code and replaced with the bottom. The main issue I believe is grabbing the image files. I am not sure how to name the actual image file that is already uploaded by the dundas upload. the code is below:
The peices in red are where the issue is I believe. What you see below is my attempt to identify the exact image and then rename it tthumbnail. My optimal solution would be to take the picture, resize it and rename it exactly what it was named before.
Any ideas
Thanks

I see the readme.txt has been corrected but the line in dataconn_inc.asp still needs to be changed. lancem38325.9032986111, My ISP uses ASPSmartMail. The email confirmation works except when I try to register an AOL user the server returns an error 500.
, Hi, I haven't heard anything from you.
Has this issue been resolved ?
Thanks , I think its great to share a mod.
I will have few with the new album. , Hi,
I have just one quick question, I know this works with Paypal but does this work with Merchant Account?
How difficult it is to make it workable with Merchant account? I appreciate your answer.
Thanks.
, I down loaded your latest ASPProtect.NET_v1.4 and now when i try to get in the admin area it won't let me in. The admin box is selected in the database under the admin user and i can update my user information (password and Address, not username). Is there something that was changed on this version or is it more likely user error on my part? What do you think i should try first?, no, that only applies to random pictures and stats..
The issues you are talking about usually relate to issues created by switching back and forth between a local install and a live server install and not being careful about changing the paths in the settings depending on where you are running it from.
For example.. it trying to use a url at the server level that is only valid when you are running it locally cwilliams38394.7554976852, Can you incorporate a secure log in within the scripting. I would like the account information to be secure without having to have the whole site using running through a secure (https://) path. If this is possible, the scripting is perfect! , If you code support for it yes, the application comes with no paypal code or support built in.
If you think it will help you, you are welcome to a copy of the classic asp version which supports paypal subscriptions. Perhaps looking at the code would help you. , Glad it is working.. for anyone reading this the customer bascially did this http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=36& PN=1
That being said asp photo gallery actually has a few more places that send email that you going to need to modify as well. Off hand the reply to album, admin massemail, admin send email, and postcard features come to mind possibly as 3 of them.
using a multiple file search and replace utility like ReplaceEm would be the easy way to do all of this in one step and find all the instances
http://www.orbit.org/replace/
cwilliams38420.4424537037, After taking another look at this and trying your suggestions without success, it appears that in Windows 2003 server it is nearly impossible to remove the READ ONLY attribute from the _database folder. I'm wonder if this could the cause?
Thanks , I have been using this solution for over a year now and think its great, however I recently logged on to add a banner and when I clciked on the link that opens a window, displaying all the gifs in the directory../images/banners/, now images showed up, however they do exist in that directory.
I recently upgraded my computer and am now using windows XP...could that be the problem?
Thanks
, All this being said installing the desktop version of SQL may be a little tricky as it may complain that your SA account needs a strict password.
The solution is to run the SQL Desktop setup.exe with some parameters specifying a password for the SA account.
So you go to the command prompt or make a shortcut to the setup file and run something like this
setup.exe SAPWD="YourPassword"
minus the quotes...
I got that info from this article and it worked fine http://www.experts-exchange.com/Databases/Q_21036508.html
The other thing to remember is it might take a reboot to actually see the SQL server icon running in the taskbar. You may also need to go into the administrative services and enable the "SQLSERVERAGENT" as well as set its startup type to "automatic"
And a reboot here and there..
Whammo... your in business... , Can ASPClassifieds display the ads by city?
I have a web directory that lists websites and companies by city. Is it possible to have specific ads shown to the user depending on what city they click on? For example, only ads in New York would be shown to users that have already clicked on that city in my directory.

A set of these variables get created for every user that logs in to your site. For performance and memory conservation reasons some of them can be turned off and are optional.
If you look in the "check_user_inc.asp" file or the "check_admin_inc.asp" file you will see a section of code like this
' Start of optional session variables to be set ' Recommended that you remark out any of the session variables below that you don't really need to use ' This will save a lot of server resource because every user logged in has a set of these ' I added some code here to not create these if they are empty If CmdCheckUser("First_Name") <> "" Then Session("First_Name") = CmdCheckUser("First_Name") If CmdCheckUser("Last_Name") <> "" Then Session("Last_Name") = CmdCheckUser("Last_Name") If CmdCheckUser("Company_Name") <> "" Then Session("Company_Name") = CmdCheckUser("Company_Name") If CmdCheckUser("Email") <> "" Then Session("Email") = CmdCheckUser("Email") If CmdCheckUser("Address") <> "" Then Session("Address") = CmdCheckUser("Address") If CmdCheckUser("City") <> "" Then Session("City") = CmdCheckUser("City") If CmdCheckUser("State_Province") <> "" Then Session("State_Province") = CmdCheckUser("State_Province") If CmdCheckUser("Zipcode_Postal_Code") <> "" Then Session("Zipcode_Postal_Code") = CmdCheckUser("Zipcode_Postal_Code") If CmdCheckUser("Phone") <> "" Then Session("Phone") = CmdCheckUser("Phone") If CmdCheckUser("Custom1") <> "" Then Session("Custom1") = CmdCheckUser("Custom1") If CmdCheckUser("Custom2") <> "" Then Session("Custom2") = CmdCheckUser("Custom2") If CmdCheckUser("Custom3") <> "" Then Session("Custom3") = CmdCheckUser("Custom3") If CmdCheckUser("Custom4") <> "" Then Session("Custom4") = CmdCheckUser("Custom4") If CmdCheckUser("Custom5") <> "" Then Session("Custom5") = CmdCheckUser("Custom5") If CmdCheckUser("Custom6") <> "" Then Session("Custom6") = CmdCheckUser("Custom6") ' End of optional session variables to be set
If you do not need a particular variable to be set as a session variable simply comment that line out with single quote.
If you have an extremely busy site with a lot of users this is a good idea. If not, you probably don't need to bother doing this. I added some code in there so they will not be created if they are empty and that alone helps out a lot. cwilliams38419.5459606481, Hi there,
Well, that is why we added the PayPal subscription pack where all of that is taken care of and customers get put under a recurring billing cycle. The more people you get to pay that way the less you have to do.
We also have routines for the two other supported payment methods so people can look up their account and add time to it whether it is active/expired or not.
Other than that, yes it is something you need to sort out on your own based on how you want to run your system. You have the source code and the sky is the limit on how you want handle all of that. You send out an email to users about to expire. Whether they come back to the site/look up their account and add more time to it is up to them. I really just do not see any way ASPProtect could handle that whole process automatically.
As for batch changing to users in the database. We give you the source code and we also use an open database structure. You can run any query you want on the database whether with ASP code or directly in your database using the tools that come with it, You can write any code you like to do whatever you like to the database. You can even tie other systems and code into the database via OBDC and manipulate data. The sky is the limit like I said. I also don't really see how batch changes to the database relates to individual users paying again for access or not especially since we include payment pages were a users can look up their accounts and pay for and add more time to it automatically ? At least not regarding the payment routine we provide support for.
ASPProtect can not handle everything every person would need to do. It is meant as a solid starting point for any project, but there are going to be times when more functionality will need to be added by the customer based on their specific needs. , Is there a possibility to build in a option that the administrator will be notifed when a banner expired.
, I have just started to move my sites to a new dedicated Windows 2003 box. I have parent paths enabled, SSI turned on but I still can't get ../ to work with server side includes. Everything I read online says that I need to turn on parent paths but again, they are already turned on.
The hosting company where the server is located can't tell me anything, they just say that that is the way it is with Windows 2003. I don't buy it!
Can anyone tell me anything on this issue to help enable the ../ for serverside includes? , Using "Email Authentication" as a registration option you cannot do that. There is no possible way I know of to have a delay on the authentication email like that. Also that method is not intended to involve any sort of manual registration like what you are doing.
Because you want to review people manually you need to change to registration process to "manual" and then send the email out manually from the users screen after making a user active. , You are NEVER supposed to move any files, especially that one. Of course that is going to break a lot of things.
Please put it back the way it was.
You change the path of the include file when you call it, never the location of the include file., Hi there...
I'm using the gallery script with ASPImage for uploading and resizing.
I bought this script and the componant for the the auto-thumbnailing
feature, and it is indeed uploading and resizing and creating a
thumbnail.
But the thumbnail is *tiny* at 64px wide. I need to change the width,
but I can't find anything in ASP Gallery or ASPImage to indicate where
that width is set. Can anyone help?
Thanks!
, its just an example connection string in the datacon_inc.asp file you have the edit it to make sense for you..
the readme.txt file with the sql directions tells you this if you use that script
------------------------------------------------------ Examples of using DSN-LESS connections.
The "SERVER" and "Data Source" settings are either the Network Name for the SQL Server or the IP Address. For local servers you can also use an IP of "127.0.0.1"
GalleryConnectionString = "Driver={SQL Server};UID=aspphotogalleryuser;password=temp;DATABASE=aspph otogallery;SERVER=127.0.0.1"
or
GalleryConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=127.0.0.1;Initial Catalog=aspphotogallery;User Id=aspphotogalleryuser;Password=temp;" ------------------------------------------------------ cwilliams38325.8980324074, Hey, I thought I'd share this tip with the ASPProtect community...
If you'd like to remove, modify, or add fields to the "Users" view in
the password_admin default.asp page, it's really easy to do. Well, at
least it was for me. I'm using an MS Access database, by the way.
For me, I don't need "Company" info, but I do need last access and # of
times accessed displayed. Therefore, I had to change the default page
in three areas:
In /password_admin/default.asp, go to about line 185 or so, where you see stuff like:
<td valign="bottom"><font face="Arial" color="#000000"
size
="2"><b>First Name& lt;/b> </font></td>
OK, those are the column headings. Each one corresponds to a column
from your USERS table in your database. There are two more areas to
consider, both of which appear immediately after this section.
The next section has statements that look like this:
<td valign="bottom"><a href="<% =THISPAGE
%>?SORTBY=First_Name+ASC&MyPageSize=<% =MyPageSize
%>&Keyword=<% =Server.URLEncode(Keyword)%>"><img
border="0" src="../images/sort_ascending.gif" Alt="Sort
Ascending"></a><a href="<% =THISPAGE
%>?SORTBY=First_Name+DESC&MyPageSize=<% =MyPageSize
%>&Keyword=<% =Server.URLEncode(Keyword)%>"><img
border="0" src="../images/sort_descending.gif" Alt="Sort
Descending"></a></td>
See the "First_Name" items? The first is for an ascending sort, the
second for a descending. This particular line corresponds to the code
snippet immediately above it. But all this does is handle the sorting.
For the actual data, look lower for this stuff:
<td bgcolor="<% = Cellbgcolor
%>"><font face="Arial" size="1"> <%=
CmdListUsers("First_Name")
%& gt; </font></td>
It's a good ways down, so don't be impatient if you don't see it in 10
lines from the end of the last mentioned section. This stuff handles
the display of the data from the database (where else ya gonna get
data, anyway?)...
Now, to remove a field, you need to find the three sets that go with
that data. The ascending/descending sort is potentially the trickiest,
because it's the longest set of data and can take a number of lines.
Just clear it from the start td to the end /td and you'll be fine.
To *add* a field, copy and paste the code from an existing field and
modify it. In the first one, the column title, you can type whatever
you want to describe your info. Nobody but you and your admins will see
it. For the next two sections, though, you need to get the correct
column heading from the USERS table and use that to correct the lines
in the copied code you pasted in.
For example, when I added a column to show the number of times a user
logged in, I copied the above snippets and pasted them in where I felt
the column I needed should be. Then, in the first one, I changed "First
Name" to "Logins". In the ascending/descending snippet, I changed
First_Name to Counter. Same for the last snippet.
The result? A new column, showing the number of logins my users were successful with.
Of course, before you experiment, back up your existing default.asp file, JUST IN CASE.
Have fun!
, when I go to that url is seems fairly fast and somewhat normal.. even when I try to log in it pops right back up asking for login info again..
I would check to make sure you are not running anything that might be effecting your web browsing.. software firewalls.. ad blockers.. script blockers... norton internet security.. zone alarm... anything like that
they can all effect a lot of things regarding how web browsers act. ,
