Not the way it ships. You would have to add that functionality by editing the source code and database., Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Even though I have a big disclaimer that the account is totally worthless without someone paying to activate it, the new IDs keep coming, about 3 a day.
,

Glad your getting the hang of it.

no difference as far as that goes. It is just different ways to reference the server side include file and it's location on the server cwilliams38457.6019675926, I have found the alternate databases and they do not work either. I then went back and changed the database path in the asptest page to connect to the 2000 and 2002 test databases and it connected successfully to both of those databases, just as it had successfully connected to the asptest.mdb., We are using this photo gallery to manage galeries of all the prodcut lines we carry, we have no use for users to be able to sign up so i hid that part of the pages, what i am wondering is how can i hide the rest of the navigational links and still be able to get logged in to admin.   Here is a link to the unfinished demo site.

http://www.scs-cases.com/photogallery/
, I'm using Groups and would like to assign all new users to a particular group.  How is this done? cwilliams38298.5087384259,

2004-08-19_122127_ASPBanner_V7.3_code_banner_encode_decode_m od.zip

This is an Expirmental MOD for ASPBanner Version 7.3 Only
Do not use it on other versions....

It encodes CODE Banner information before saving it into the application variables that handle banner rotation. It then decodes that information before displaying them on your web pages.

The reason for this is SOME very complex javascript does not always save correctly into the application variables that rotate banners (even when not using the JavaScript Method to display the banners)

This way the javascript or whatever you entered comes out on your web page exactly as you entered it and runs correctly.. but there is little more processing going on to handle the encoding and decoding. But its probably nothing to worry about and won't effect performance at all.

Unless your having a problem don't use this mod. It is not officially supported in any way.

-- DIRECTIONS --

( COPY THESE FILES INTO YOUR ASPBANNER DIRECTORY AND BACK UP ALL THE FILES THAT YOU WILL BE REPLACING ))
(( SO YOU CAN REVERT BACK IF THERE IS TROUBLE ))

If you are wondering if the "appinfo_inc.asp" included has the weight banner bug fix applied to it already. That is a bug mentioned in our forums

ALSO:

(( YOU CAN NOT USE THE INCLUDE METHODS OF CALLING BANNERS WITH THIS CODE ))

(( YOU CAN NOT USE THE JAVASCRIPT METHOD OF CALLING BANNERS WITH THIS CODE ))

(( USE ONE OF THE OTHER METHODS ))

cwilliams38229.4189930556,

If you can would you do it for a price as a mod or will this be added to the new version.

,

how you connecting... lets see the connection string...

could be permissions related too.. if they are not set correctly
(always give them to the folder, never just the mdb file)

Some of this might help...

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo11-1.htm

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo56-1.htm

you may want to download some of the different versions of the access database from the support area and try connecting to them as you may have older odbc drivers on the server

You may also want to try to get ASPTest from our website working before you go any further

Hi,

I need to be able to add about 9 checkboxes to the register.asp. would I be able to use one of the custom fields?

The other thing is once I add the checkboxes the value must be written to the DB and later read when displaying the person's Album.

Any idea on how I can do this.

Thanks

,

Glad it is working.. for anyone reading this the customer bascially did this
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=36& PN=1

That being said asp photo gallery actually has a few more places that send email that you going to need to modify as well. Off hand the reply to album, admin massemail, admin send email, and postcard features come to mind possibly as 3 of them.

using a multiple file search and replace utility like ReplaceEm would be the easy way to do all of this in one step and find all the instances

http://www.orbit.org/replace/

cwilliams38420.4424537037,

nope ,sql server has nothing to do with this

I am talking about the folder pictures are stored in.. it needs modify permissions set for the internet guest account like those articles talk about

,

I am not entirely sure how one configures the system to assign a user to a specific group.  For example, let say I have created two groups A and B, and I have pages protected by the code generated in the admin area for groups A and B.  I know I can assign access to these groups in the admin area.  However,  it is not clear to me how I do it automatically through the registration process.

,

again I will ask you what is the real error??

see the link above when I asked you the 1st time.
(I need the error details and line number.. etc etc)

and what kind of a server are you trying to run it on ?
you mention xp pro but in a confusing way ?

,

Okay,  I deleted out the aspprotect folder and started over.  I also took out the dsn connection to the ecommerce database and deleted out the subweb that had it, I decided to use another provided where the database is resident on thier servers not mine.

I broke my txt file into groups and it's loading sort of.  The first 1000 users uploaded fine...the second said it timed out, but when I looked at the access database it showed 2000 people.   The login still times out and every page seems to load incredibly slow still.

, its that server, it's way underpowered when it comes to running dynamic code and databases.. and that other app is probably stealing all the leftover odbc resources..... did you try doing the import on another machine running ASP? Thats the way to go.. I am afraid I won't be much help at the moment.. I am battling with a crashed system and a lot of lost data, I assumed when it said "expected path" that it understand that was the default and unless I wanted it in a different directory I could leave that blank.  I'm checking on it now., no the "expected path" is something that gets generated for you if you have parent paths enabled. to help you fill things in correctly...

basically if parent paths are enabled it shows you what the path should be for each path field on the settings page... if parent paths are disabled there will be nothing to the right of expected path for technical reasons (lack of being able to do a "../../" to figure out the paths more or less)

in that case there is a file called "expected_paths" in the data folder that you can run to tell you the expected path info
, also, from looking at your site your ideal scenario would be a system that allows you to show all banners in one zone at any given time but in a different order.

ASPBanner is just not that sort of system. It is only designed to show one banner at a time from a given zone in random order.,

Yes.

Now its OK

Thanks Christopher

,

it is an email server/setting issue most likely

your email server probably requires outgoing authentication or something like that and that is why internal emails can be sent to but nothing else

its something along those lines

this will help you see the real error instead of the generic 500

I agree -- don't use the code as is.  I provided it only as an idea for a work-around if your ASPProtect users with Internet Explorer complain about the Page Expired message.

I did not test it to be sure the parms coming into the target page (which would be part of the URL when bookmarking) are properly preserved.  It would be easy to make sure they are preserved, but I am not sure the code in the example does that.  I also customized the code with my own page header and footer.

I have the Option Pack but the site does not need it yet so I haven't applied it.  I don't expect many problems re-applying my few lines of modifications.

The IE behavior is not a big deal if you provide an explicit login page, since users would have less interest in paging back to that.   In my case, I simply gave a link to a protected part of the site, and when they take that link, they instead get the login form if they aren't logged on.  Once they log on, they get their desired content page, to which they sometimes want to page back later on.

From searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base and other sources, I could not find a way (using HTML) to turn off IE's behavior of refusing to quietly reload a page containing form data. Netscape does not do this.  So my IE workaround is to ensure my target page does not contain the login form.  It does not solve the cause of the problem, but in this case it gets rid of the Page Expired error message for my IE users.

I also purchased ASPProtect for another site, and I'm using that "out of the box" unmodified.  I'm very pleased with ASPProtect's functionality and the fact that it works completely without the need to customize.  However, I've found it is very easy to customize if I want to.

ok, I am home.. missed flight.. just got home an hour ago.

lets see.. I really need more info...

For starters are you using the delayed stats feature ? that is expirmental and could cause that problem

,

I have ASPProtect up and running and I was able to log in with little to now problem after following all of the directions.

I imported my data base of users (approx 5300) into the access db, and now it times out just letting me log in.

I've got full access to the web server to make any changes on that end that I need.

any ideas?

, I would like to delete the SQL tables and set them up from scratch using enterprise manager and sql query manager and see what happens

If that is ok with you let me know.

Something is wrong like I said...  almost seems like the database is caching old password info from the field., YAY! I FOUND A BUG IN MY TESTING!!! Do I get a cool t-shirt or a coupon for Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream?

Hehehe... seriously, thanks for digging deeper and spotting the error. You got some mad skillz and some excellent service, Mr. Cwilliams!
,

The problem with that is when a user deletes an album, the album record does not get deleted from the DB, so counting all the records would return the accurate result. :(

Any hints?

eeye38433.0290740741, I am trying to understand how/where the "Log_Off_URL" variable is set
I have searched the forum for that string but don't get real good
results...I think the _'s are replaced with spaces for the search.

I am learning how to use the groups options and have modified some of
your example access level examples to test out group stuff.  At the
bottom of the default.asp page I see a "LOG OFF SYSTEM" link that is
filled with a link stored in the Log_Off_URL variable and it looks
like that is being set back to the default.asp file somehow.  So when
I click on it it just refreshes the page and appears to keep my user
logged in.

Seems like it should log out the user and redisplay the
login page.  Is there a way to log totally off and have the login page
show up again?  I am sure I am missing some obvious thing
somewhere...I can see where the Log_Off_URL variable is being created
in the config_inc.asp file but did'nt know where to look for more
info.  Can you point me to an existing forum link?

Thanks!!
,

Gotcha.

Can you set an expiration date on a subscription?

Thanks,

Jess

, I just made a new admin account and I still can not log in using it ?

Did you by chance edit the code by adding LCID info or something like that ? Something is just very wrong.

The simple example protected pages can not even be logged into ?

,

no, that only applies to random pictures and stats..

The issues you are talking about usually relate to issues created by switching back and forth between a local install and a live server install and not being careful about changing the paths in the settings depending on where you are running it from.

For example.. it trying to use a url at the server level that is only valid when you are running it locally

cwilliams38394.7554976852,

When did you download the ASPProtect Version 7 zip file ?

what did you enter as a wrong password to make that happen ?

does it it do it when other wrong passwords are entered ?

cwilliams38452.722037037,

Good Morning - I getting errors in my system log that says "404 file not found" for a number of files - Here are a few examples:

/aspprotect/password_admin/ drop1.gif
http://cidra.easycgi.com/ aspprotect/password_admin/edit.asp? User_ID=181
4 0.28%
/aspprotect/password_admin/ drop2.gif
http://cidra.easycgi.com/ aspprotect/password_admin/edit.asp? User_ID=181
4 0.28%
/aspprotect/password_admin/ left1.gif
http://cidra.easycgi.com/ aspprotect/password_admin/edit.asp? User_ID=181

I ideas on how to fix this?  Note: The system seems to be working fine, but I want my log files as clean as possible.

Thanks.  shirley

, Because employees and sales reps might leave or go to work at competitors without our knowledge and we can't have them get an perm account so we need to implement some sort of expiry and then review their account with them.,

I downloaded the skins, ftp'd them to the skins folder and can see them in the list of available skins. No matter which one I try to apply it keeps solid_color_black.

,

Nope,

No changes to any scripts - just a response.write added to Email_Password.asp to print out the SQL.

Sure - here's the address.

Hello,

no default setting for something like that... what your thinking about doing is on the right track I'd say

,

SQL Database Creation (NEW INSTALL)

If you are creating a new database do so using SQL enterprise manager.
Create a new database called whatever you like and keep all the default settings. If using an existing sql database skip that step.

Now open up SQL Query Analyzer

unzip the following sql script and open it in query analyser.
2005-02-20_132116_aspprotect_v7_sql_script.zip

VERY IMPORTANT
On the drop down box at the top right make sure your intended database is selected. Otherwise your changes may effect the wrong database in your SQL server.

Then load the script  into the Query Analyzer.  Click the green play button at the top. If everything goes well the response should read something like this.

******************************************************
(1 row(s) affected)
******************************************************

If so the tables have been created in your existing database.

Now make sure an existing or new SQL user has (public / datareader / datawriter) permissions for the new tables. You will be referencing this user in the asp code connection string so this user must be set up correctly. You may need your SQL server admins or hosting company to help you on this step as you may not have access to do this. You may not need to create a user and set permissions as the sql user you were logged in as to use query analyzer may by default get the correct permissions on anything you create.

Regardless, as you can see from this screenshot I made a SQL user called "aspprotectuser" and proceeded to set the permissions for that user. Under database access giving him (public, datareader, and datewriter permissions).

Now, in the ASP files provided with ASPProtect edit "dataconn_inc.asp" with a text editor and modify the connection string info. Be sure to change the info to match your server, username, and password.

Below is an example of valid connection string.

ConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=poseidon;Initial Catalog=aspprotect;User Id=aspprotectuser;Password=temp;"

The  "Data Source" setting is either the Network Name for the SQL Server or the IP Address. For local servers you can sometimes use an IP of "127.0.0.1" or the name of the local server.

"Initial Catalog" is the name of your database.

Now, in the ASP files provided with ASPProtect edit "dataconn_inc.asp" with a text editor and set the DatabaseType variable to SQL like so.

DatabaseType = "SQL"

cwilliams38403.6834953704,

ok, here is what is going on

you are password protecting an ".asp" page that requires querystring info to run correctly   (example - "somepage.asp?ID=3"")

that is something I never intended anyone to do.. while it does handle and repass the querystring info along during successful login it does not re-pass that info during a failed login as you have found out

this is all by design.. the only reason the system re-passes the querystring info at all is because I wanted to make it smart for the sake of the remember me/cookie feature.. so if someone was using that and bookmarked a page deep in your site with querstring info...then when they went back to that bookmark they would get authenticated and still see the page as intended with the querystring info in tact

it was a nice feature never intended to handle any situations other than what I just described...

now...
notice the url in the browser after failing a login.. then logging in successfully.. it is missing the querystring info

that more than anything is what is going on..  browser caching can cause some confusion when dealing with this because the browser likes to return you to the page minus the querstring info... when that happens a simple browser refresh at that time may very well solve the problem and then you see the page you are supposed to see...

To avoid all of this...

One solution to this is to always start people logging in to an ".asp" page that has no querystring info. That way this won't happen. Once they are logged in you can then offer them links to the pages they need to go to. (you of course still want to password protect those pages)

Another solution is to log them into a page with no querystring info and then do a response.redirect to the page with quersytring info.. thus accomplishing the same thing but without the possibility of the issue because of a failed login.

Another solutions is to do checks in your asp page for missing querstring info.. and if it isn't there do something about it like send them somewhere else.. or display a message about there being an error... etc etc

So,basically you don't want to tell people to login into such and such page with querstring info... and providing a username and password..... You can do it but like you found out it can cause an error if they mess up logging in the 1st time. The system just was not designed to handle that. There are complex reasons for that involving security that would just take me too long to explain.

I hope this makes some sense to you.. it is very hard to try and explain
