ASPProtect v7.x has a new feature called groups.
Groups are meant as a replacement for using the access levels as they are much more powerful. Support for pages protected using access levels is left in tact for backward compatiability for a customer that was using them.
A customer recently told me groups could not be used like access levels and that 8 access levels was not enough. This is how I explained that groups can do everything access levels can do.
Groups can honestly do everything access levels can do if you really think about it. Using groups and protecting pages accordingly you could actually create a system that basically worked identically to the way the access levels works.
For example..
You make 8 groups and assign users to them accordingly
Protection code on page allows access to groups 1-8 The aspprotect system generates this code for you…
<% GROUPACCESS = "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
In this case a user assigned to any one of those groups would have access..
Protection code on page allows access to groups 2-8 The aspprotect system generates this code for you…
<% GROUPACCESS = "2,3,4,5,6,7,8" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
In this case a user assigned to any group between 2-8 would have access..
Protection code on page allows access to groups 3-8 The aspprotect system generates this code for you…
<% GROUPACCESS = "3,4,5,6,7,8" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
In this case a user assigned to any group between 3-8 would have access..
and so on... I think you should get the picture by now , Yeah sorry you are right. It works for me

,
sorry.. you just said above you were using XP SP2 so that is the article I referred you to as I just assumed you were talking about your local web server
here is my article on permissions regarding server 2003 http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp
I can look at your installation monday if you like. In about an hour I leave for a wedding thingie and I wont be around again untill monday around noon
Try the uploading using VBSCRIPT method just for the heck of it. Perhaps there is an issue with the installation of the dundas component.

, Hello- I am trying to install the ASPPROTECT product and tried to read all the docs but still am getting the following error:
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x1980 Thread 0x1458 DBC 0x223c374 Jet'.
I understand about the physical path for the DSN-less connection and followed the example given. I got in touch with tech support for the host of my site and the give me the following as a physical path:
c:\sites\Single20\laptv1\database
Some observations:
1.- The database directory is outside the root dir but I think I am accounting for it with the path
2.- The permissions are ok
Any ideas?
Thanks

, Hello,
for an admin.. you view albums for a user.. make a new album... then click manage pictures
for a regular user you log in.. go to user user area.. create an album..then click on manage your albums , ASPProtect Version 7 Expiry Notices go out to members who have recently renewed by subscription.
When an existing member from ASPProtect Version 6, with an expiry date, renews with SUBSCRIPTION in v7, the previous expiry date remains unchanged. We assume the expiry date remains blank with NEW Subscriptions and that Paypal takes care of notifications.
But our notifications to the "about to expire" dating from v6 catches the "Renewed by subscrtiption" as well, as the date has nor been changed or removed, and this REALLY confuses our members.
Can this be resolved? , We do not support customization of the code or any custom coding you may end up doing with Visual Studio.NET. However, if you can show me that the application functions incorrectly in its default unmodified form I can help. If not it has to be something you did most likely.
Though I do not if it is the issue, mixing c# and vb.net in the same project can be tricky if not problematic. It’s definitely just not something I can support.
If you have not seen it we have tuturial on setting up the project in visual studio.net. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo85-1.htm
I would suggest starting with a clean installation. Test everything to make sure the things you say are ok or not. (if not post here about it) Then try your hand at editing the application and compiling it. Keep the c# out of the mix at 1st.
I am not even sure if adding c# to the same project is feasable. (maybe it is , maybe it isn't)
That being said.. ASPProtect.NET can of course be used to protect pages using c#. But compiling the ASPProtect.NET project with C# code added sounds a bit iffy to me. We wrote the application in VB.NET so you really need to use vb.net when making changes to it. , How do I recover or reset admin password used for the aspprotected pages. I have installed it months and months ago, but now can not recall the password. Any help appreciated, as I do not feel like installing it again. , I agree -- don't use the code as is. I provided it only as an idea for a work-around if your ASPProtect users with Internet Explorer complain about the Page Expired message.
I did not test it to be sure the parms coming into the target page (which would be part of the URL when bookmarking) are properly preserved. It would be easy to make sure they are preserved, but I am not sure the code in the example does that. I also customized the code with my own page header and footer.
I have the Option Pack but the site does not need it yet so I haven't applied it. I don't expect many problems re-applying my few lines of modifications.
The IE behavior is not a big deal if you provide an explicit login page, since users would have less interest in paging back to that. In my case, I simply gave a link to a protected part of the site, and when they take that link, they instead get the login form if they aren't logged on. Once they log on, they get their desired content page, to which they sometimes want to page back later on.
From searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base and other sources, I could not find a way (using HTML) to turn off IE's behavior of refusing to quietly reload a page containing form data. Netscape does not do this. So my IE workaround is to ensure my target page does not contain the login form. It does not solve the cause of the problem, but in this case it gets rid of the Page Expired error message for my IE users.
I also purchased ASPProtect for another site, and I'm using that "out of the box" unmodified. I'm very pleased with ASPProtect's functionality and the fact that it works completely without the need to customize. However, I've found it is very easy to customize if I want to.

Puli Club of America , The Pop-Up Javascript Date Pickers will only show up of your server's regional settings are set to one of two lCID values.
1033 which is English - United States mm/dd/yyyy date format
or
2057 which is English - United Kingdom dd/mm/yyyy date format
Many servers are set to run the default LCID which is 2048 so the banner system will not show the date pickers.
This setting can however be easily overwritten when using the ASPBanner system.
Edit the "config_inc.asp" file with a text editor.
Add this code between the <% and %> tags. Near the top is good
Session.LCID = 1033
or
Session.LCID = 2057
depending on what date format you are looking to use
Save the file and go edit a banner. The date pickers should be there now. cwilliams38325.7403125, Verison 8 is superior in every way and the code is much more optimized so yes I think it would handle it better. It is still a lot of banners on one page though which means a lot of hits to the database if you call them all individually with zone calling code. SQL server would make sense more than MSACCESS.
Now, the only reason I said make one zone for all those banners on the home page is because a banner has to be associated with a zone. It would make sense to put them all in one because if you just tracked the clicks like I mentioned you really wouldnt be using the zone except for maybe when you go to view stats. , I would like to delete the SQL tables and set them up from scratch using enterprise manager and sql query manager and see what happens
If that is ok with you let me know.
Something is wrong like I said... almost seems like the database is caching old password info from the field., ConnectionString = "DBQ=C:\TradersReportsCom\aspprotect\data\database\ASPProtec t_access2002.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp"
I have already set the folder permissions as indicated in the documentation. , No, Unfortunately.
I have seen your messages.
I have not edited the code at all.
Tomorrow I will install the sql database again from your script as I
did before and I will try again. I will send all the details.
Thank you again.
, can add photo album but after i upload a pic, nothing shows.
where do i look to research why pics aren't showing in the albums , recently i've been getting a lot of unspecified errors. i've been running aspbanner for about a year and a half now. i don't know what would have caused all these problems. also, for some reason it won't maintain my log-in, ever time i got from page to page or try to submit a form it asks me log-in again.
Jason S. cwilliams38389.8791550926, I like to change my database from access to SQL. I run the aspbanner.sql in the database and then I checked the new database tables with the screenshots from your support info. Then I make a ODBC Connection and it looks very good, I logged in and create a zone, but I was not able to store it. I got the following message:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers- Fehler '80040e07' [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Bei der Konvertierung eines char-Datentyps in einen datetime-Datentyp liegt der datetime-Wert ausserhalb des gütigen Bereichs. /adserve/aspbanner/appinfo_inc.asp, line121
Please can anyone help me, that aspbanner also run on my SQL Server ?
Best regards Josef Raschko , Not sure what you mean about the path to the IIS files being
wierd...what else should it be? The wf directory is the root of
the aspprotect stuff for this project.
I assume the permissions need to be read, write at least. I was
looking at the permissions dialog from a file explorer and I see a web
sharing tab and a security tab. I look at the security tab but I
am not really sure which type of user I am looking for to add and give
permissions to so that I can get it right. Maybe that is not the
right place to set the permissions....
Sorry to be "windows challenged" but I am not super familliar with all
the different places to set various permissions for OS vs. IIS. I
looked in the "Internet Services Manager" and browsed to the logfiles
directory and looked at its permissions...is that the place to set
things up? I see a "directory" and "Directory security"
tabs...which is the important one? I made sure "write" was
checked and went to the directory security tab and enabled anonomous
access....still no logs are showing up. Restarted server a bunch of
times to make sure it took the permission settings. I logged in
and out correctly and incorrectly to see if a log would be generated
but no luck.
The physical path to the logfiles directory is set correctly in the setup tab in aspprotect... sorry to still be baffled.
How do I know if the filesystem object is disabled on the server?? I can copy and paste things in there...
Thanks!!
, humm, those are some very big images to be starting off with but I am not sure that would cause a problem under the importing scenario
what width are you having the system resize them to ?
What happens when you upload a image manually (one a t a time)
Also, try the import process out with some pictures no bigger than say 1024 and lets see what happens , Is there a way to know if it is a SQL server with IIS5? My database type is MSACCESS.
Thanks! Rhona (rookie) , need more info..
are you using aspimage to resize images and make true thumbnails.. (because if you have it turned on and it isnt actually installed on the server you will get broken thumbnails.)
what kind of images are you using ? gif or jpegs
are you uploading images over existing images ?
really need to know exactly what to do to reproduce the situation from scratch and then I can give you a better answer ??
cwilliams38348.7894097222, recent activity infomation is temporary and mantains itself per application start up.. when the web application restarts for whatever reason the info is reset
a reboot, an iisreset on the server, application pool restarts, etc etc this is done because if that info was saved in the database your database would get huge real quick
logfiles however do not do that and are permanent , no, but in the standard version it probably will not run so great with more than 75 or so.
The unlimited version can handle pretty much whatever., Hi,
Its just not enough information to go on. I need more details on what is going on. There are a lot of configuration settings in these applications. I really do not know what to make of that screen shot.
My 1st guess is that if you cannot delete a picture that the picture folder does not have delete permissions ??
I also need to mention that I am not sure what this has to do with ASPImage ? , I wasnt talking about the date for a banner ad.. I was talking about the date field in the database for a USER if there is one (I dont remember if that app had date fields for user or not and I am not at a computer to take a look)
If you do not know how to directly open up and edit the database then yes you should just make a new user, You can mix and match banner calling methods all you want. Try it and see what happens.
However, the only method that is going to work on non ".asp" pages is the javascript or the new iframe method listed in the support forums.
cwilliams38209.532349537, If you run asplistings auto in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.
And you run your other version of ASPListiings in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.
You will have zero major changes to make to anything... other than what you did above..
But remember theyare the same app and share a lot of thing including sessions and application variables.. that is why if they are installed in the same domain each one needs its own application set in the IIS console so they run seperately of one another. cwilliams38312.5189814815, I am not sure. I can tell you that I run windows 2003 server and I have never had any issues setting permissions for ASP.NET files and folders. This very server is 2003 and the ASPProtect.NET demo runs on this server as well.
Course, I can't say that I have specifically tried to remove ASP.NET READ permissions on the database folder as it's just not something I would not have a reason to do. Why are you trying to do that? The ASP.NET account needs that permission. If you are trying to stop file browsing and downloading in that folder that is not how you do that. The best way to do that is by keeping the database somewhere else on the server that is not part of the http web. , It's MS Access, Version 7 (the Full one).
Anyway, I had inadvertently changed the user_id field type to "number". When I changed it back to "autonumber", everything went back to normal.
Thanks you very much for your quick reply and sorry to have bothered you. , Christopher,
I can empathize. It can be a real pain to stablize a server and fend off hack attacks.
As for beta testing, I was referring to once you get to the point where you're ready to release it to the public whether it's this month, next month, etc.
Good Luck!
Al , The path is correct for the logfile directory. This is still not working.
, well, so far one other guy found one..
his, was some sort of weird character that was causing a line break or something though in my testing I just couldnt figure out what was going on
now for me to reproduce any error someone find with a password I need to know the key used and the password used
which make it real hard to troubleshoot , This is great FREE SQL Server Web Data Administrator App from Microsoft..
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=C03 9A798-C57A-419E-ACBC-2A332CB7F959&displaylang=en
It is an ASP.NET web application that you install locally on your development server and then use to connect to a SQL database whether remote or local.
It can do nearly everything enterprise manager can do.
I have tested it and it works great for me. cwilliams38325.7453587963, I have ASP Photogallery running and it seems to be great, but I would like to allow uploads using DUNDAS the problem is I can't seem to find it on the linked website. I did find an EXE install in another place but I am running on a Shared Host (Godaddy) and can't run an executable on it. Where can I find Dundas and is there a way to install it without running an EXE??, I down loaded your latest ASPProtect.NET_v1.4 and now when i try to get in the admin area it won't let me in. The admin box is selected in the database under the admin user and i can update my user information (password and Address, not username). Is there something that was changed on this version or is it more likely user error on my part? What do you think i should try first?, I have written asp.net application pages- obviously i knew what viewstate was, or else when they made a mistake on that page it would not have saved their filled in info. Same thing for after they submitted, when they hit the back button their info would be gone.
For someone who wrote this software it seems you are not able to do simple things. Im begining to think you didn't write it. The only reason no one else asked this many questions is possibly because they didnt NEED the functions i am TRYING to do.
I know how the log boxes work. Esp. reg ASP... they all allow you to enter your username and password and then when you hit submit it gets verified and transfers you to your destination. ASP.NET has that capability also.. i didn't purchase a program to go and have to re-write it in visual studio. It would take me longer to re-write YOUR code than it would to have LEARNED ASP.NET and made MY OWN.
The program seems to have some great complex features, however, your not able to incorporate this easy login from a diff. page function... fishy , Have SQL 2000 backend... We just moved from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003, used import data routine in SQL to move data.
Logged into admin area. When adding new user, no record is created. However, editing record works just fine.
Any ideas would be appreciated. , no, you cannot unless you plan to write a lot of custom code.
That is why the option pack has groups which eliminate the need to use access levels because groups can do everything access levels can and more.
There is an article here regarding that. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=32& PN=1
cwilliams38303.5555439815, the sql databse is the same.. the sql script is the same for any version
as the site says they are essentially the same app with very minor changes... if you are trying to share the same sql database with both it's not gonna happen because the table names are the same
truthfully: that app runs nealry as well with msaccess as it does with sql so I wouldnt get too excited about running it withe sql. You will not see any benefits unless you have a ton of simultaneus (sp) users. cwilliams38312.1125115741, Some of our users complained that their users id and passwords are sent in the clear. So we decided to invest in an SSL certificate from Verisign. It has been tested fine with all forms and pages in ASPProtect version 6. The only remaining page which I am not sure how to protect is the home page. Let's say my home page is http://www.MyDomain.com/index.asp. When the user goes to this link he/she will be presented with the check_user_inc.asp page so he/she can enter their ID and PW. So how to make the login information send from this page thru HTTPS? ,
