Not the way it ships. You would have to add that functionality by editing the source code and database., Noted: I actually did not think you did.
As far as debugging goes.. thats all built into visual studio.net. There is a tag you edit in the web.config file to enable project debugging http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo251-1.htm
Like I said though for changes to ASPProtect.NET I'd start off from scratch and stick with vb.net... using the visual.studio.net interface is not really vary hard to remove and change things you dont' need even if you are a C# coder. Especially simple stuff like you mentioned. ,
Disallowed Parent Path
The Include file '../dataconn_inc.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.
When you get an error like this it is because parent paths are disabled on the web server. This is a setting in the IIS console for your website.
If it is not enabled on you server you will have to ask your host to enable parent paths for your website.
This is what the settings screen looks like on an XP Machine

Additional Information:
It is enabled by default on IIS4-IIS5 but in IIS6 it is disabled by default. It is a minor security risk to have enabled and some hosts can be difficult about setting it.
Truth is, if your hosting ASP for customers you need to enable this setting if the customer requests it. Especially since 90% of the ASP applications out there require the setting.
Hosting companies should if they are serious about hosting ASP.
If they won't your only option is to go through all the code and convert the file includes to virtual includes.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
The trouble with virtual includes is they are different depending on the layout of your website. (that's why web application developers generally don't use them)
Basically if you are in a sub domain the path for the virtual include is going to be different then if you were in the root.. etc etc
Also.. someone developing on a local machine would need totally different virtual includes on the development server than they would on the live server. Server Side includes are processed before ASP so there is no way to make them SMART, so to speak. Server Side includes are hardcoded and that's that.
In my opinion virtual includes are pretty useless for commercial web based applications... Since you don't know where the customers plan to install the apps. And YES there are some tricks when designing the applications that make it less of an issue but they are not perfect solutions.
For example...
The virtual include below would work if the application or code was installed in the root <!--#include virtual = /somefile.asp"-->
But if the application or code was installed in a directory called "somedirectory" the virtual include directive would need to look like this
<!--#include virtual = "/somedirectory/somefile.asp"--> cwilliams38391.6033101852, I have ASPProtect up and running and I was able to log in with little to now problem after following all of the directions.
I imported my data base of users (approx 5300) into the access db, and now it times out just letting me log in.
I've got full access to the web server to make any changes on that end that I need.
any ideas?
, Is there a limit to how many access levels the program has? We were thinking of having a different access level for each client that logs on our site so we can customize their web experience. We see 6 in one place of the program, 8 in another, but is there any reason why we couldn't make 100 more?
Thanks again for the help! , - I am using the original files that came with the software. - The software ads items to the database flawlessly. - ASPImage works great.
- When I try to remove an ad or an image it says it's been removed. - The ad does not show up on the site anymore. - BUT, when looking at the sql database the ad is still listed there.
Why is the software not deleting the columns from the database and the images from folder?
Note: My other tables for other projects, in the database, allow me to delete them. , Now, we can connect to the MySQL database with ASPBanner using the following connection string if we like.
"driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};server=localhost;port=3306;uid=root;pwd=temp;databas e=aspbanner;option=16386"
But we really do not want to connect to the aspbanner MySQL database using the "root" account
So, lets make an account to use..
In MySQL Administrator select "User Administration"
Down below you will see the user "root"
Right click on "root" and select "Add new user"

Type in a New MySQL Username and Password
I am going to call my new user "aspbanneruser"
Hit the Schema Privileges" tab

In this case since I am using the root account to manage my MySQL system I am just going to give this new user account what it needs to use the aspbanner database.. you may want to apply more permissions to the new account, that is up to you.. I am giving the new user (select, insert, update, delete, execute) So I right click on the aspbanner and then bring over the permissions I need for it.. and hit apply changes down in the bottom right.
We can now connect to the aspbanner MySQL database using this new account like so.
"driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};server=localhost;port=3306;uid=aspbanneruser;pwd=tem p;databas e=aspbanner;option=16386"
------------------------------------------------------------ ----- article still in the process of being written (3/14/06) , nope ,sql server has nothing to do with this
I am talking about the folder pictures are stored in.. it needs modify permissions set for the internet guest account like those articles talk about
, Actually quite well. I have this problem worked out and it
actually isn't to bad. But now I am getting some strange
error messages. I will start another post.
Cheers
Roy
, New Power Supply and a new (CPU Fan/Heat Sink) seemed to do the the trick. She's running like a champ now...
Hopefully it keeps doing so. Only time will tell.
It she's stable I can get back to designing some new software. cwilliams38296.9772800926, recently i've been getting a lot of unspecified errors. i've been running aspbanner for about a year and a half now. i don't know what would have caused all these problems. also, for some reason it won't maintain my log-in, ever time i got from page to page or try to submit a form it asks me log-in again.
Jason S. cwilliams38389.8791550926, Is there a way to upload photos to individual user directories? I don't want all the picture files in a single directory.
Thanks,
Steve , I see what your saying.. its just hard to troubleshoot something when a lot of changes have been made.
Did you test things before you started modifying the code ?
If its SQL server it is very important that the database was created with the provided SQL scripts., Can I have the logon be in a top frame while having the protected pages displayed in a main frame?
Using frames with forms based authentication is not the best thing to be doing. Your much better off not using frames and using includes files to do a virtual frames sort of thing (search google) but if you are going to use frames I would suggest password protecting the frameset page as well as any pages it contains.
If you want to have a login form in a non protected top frame all the time.. that posts to a lower frame that is password protected.. you would do this http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo169-1.htm but change the target of the form to one of your frames
personally though I think that would be a somewhat goofy setup to have going on
Also, how will it behave if a user moves in between a protected page to a public page and back to the protected page again?
As long as they have cookies enabled which is required for session variables to work... then you will have no issues because once they come back to a page they have permission to they will just be allowed in without login.. at least while that session is still active.. or for a longer time if they choose the remeber me option which keeps track of them with a cookie .
Really, the best thing to do is expirment and see how things behave.
, Done!
I was able to put my experience was based on *40 months* of usage! I
think I bought a version way back in 2001, IIRC, so it's been a long,
happy trip with ASPProtect for me!
, It just sits there indefinitely without an error being returned. The only clue I have is that it seems to be connecting to the database when I try to log-in. I know this because I decided to erase the files and start again, but I could not delete the database because it was "in use". After I rebooted to clear that connection and erased the database, then re-did the install, the same condition exists after entering the key on the get_me_in.asp page. It just sits there indefinitely., A correctly configured Microsoft SQL Database is critical to the correct operation of the ASPBanner system.
Table & Field settings must be exactly the way we set them in the database creation scripts provided with the ASPBanner system.
Below are screenshots of the design view settings for all the tables used in the ASPBanner system in case you want to double check them

In addition to the settings above each table has one field that is a primary key with an auto increment of one
In the screenshots above each of those fields has a yellow key next to it. If the field does not have yellow primary key icon on you just right click and the option to make it one appears.
The SQL column settings for each one of the primary key fields must be set as follows

In addition to these settings the SQL scripts provided with the system auto populate the Banner_Users table with two users. This is very important because without the Admin user the scripts add you wont be able to log in to the ASPBanner system as an admin. cwilliams38325.7405092593, Hello -
Believe it or not I finally can access the photogallery. You were right Chris regarding the unzipping of the files.
Now onto the next challenge! I have set up three categories and proceeded to create a test album. I uploaded a couple of pictures (yeah that worked!!!) but the album does not show up on the default.asp page under the category.
Please advise - Rhona (rookie) , Most likely it is no longer supported on the web server. The web host probably moved you site to a windows 2003 server which does not support cdonts or they stopped running the IIS SMTP server.
You usualy wont get an error..
it is also possible that cdonts is boned up as it is pretty flaky and that tends to happen. For example sometimes the emails it is suppost to send get caught up in the smtp pickup directory and never get sent out until the server is rebooted.
You should really ask the hosting company why cdonts has stopped working. It definetly has nothing to do with the code if it has been working all that time. If CDONTS still is supportd tell them you emails are in limbo. Ask them to look and see if a bunch of ".eml" files are stuck in the stmp pickup directly and if so to please reboot the server.
lastly: cdonts has been deprecated and now everyone uses cdosys. see my article http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/sending_email_cdosys.asp

, Post a request in the "custom code work" forum. Perhaps another customer will want to do the work or help you out with some code.
I am just too busy to do any custom work for quite a while.
, Ow.
I haven't moved (or messed with) any critical files within the directory at all, just placed them as a job lot into a subdirectory call aspprotect.
All I did was put all the files directly into a directory rather than into the root because some of the subdirectories had the same name as some already in use and would therefore have been overwritten.
I'll go back and have another look in the cold light of day (its too late tonight UK time).
Thanks anyway. , Hi,
I don't see any good reason to rename any of those files.
Changing them though may involve changes to the code recompiling, etc etc... it is not something I support. , Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Even though I have a big disclaimer that the account is totally
worthless without someone paying to activate it, the new IDs keep
coming, about 3 a day.
, OK, so I misread the instructions. Wouldn't have been the first time
that happened... but I just had an account get created, guy then
paid, and... no activation. I had to go in the next day and do that by
hand. What should I do to look for troubleshooting on the issue? I've
got all the default directories set up and all the files where they
should be. What next?
, If you are using an ACCESS Database try to avoid using a system DSN. They are much slower because they go through ODBC which then uses the Jet Drivers to access the database. They also have to do a registry lookup.
ttp://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/070399-1.shtml
http://www.powerasp.com/content/database/dsn_vs_dnsless.asp
It's funny because in the 4guys article they ask the question..
"Hmmmm... so who was right, Microsoft or Wrox?"
I'll tell you who was right and who said it 1st. It was me and I said it on my old powerasp.com site before anyone else ever did.
I found it out on my own by experimenting when I was the Systems Analyst for an large ISP. We we had web servers that were not running well. I didn't read about this solution anywhere because no one was talking about it at the time. Microsoft said use System DSN's so everyone just took their word for it.
I took a lot of heat for saying that back in the day but over time everyone started saying it.
, Thank you...I thought I was doing something wrong - and thanks for the tip on the virtual path., yes, How can I have fixed size height and width image without distortion. Is there a component that I can use or how can I change the existing code.
yes, unless its ratio matches
how could it not be ?
Please keep questions like this in the forums... thx. there is no need for this to be a private message

If I choose fixed width and height is the thumbnail image going to be distorted?
-- Previous Private Message -- Sent by : cwilliams Sent : April/29/2005 at 1:17pm
that is not possible unless you rewrite the code.
You onlyahve the two options we give in the config file for thumbnails
fixed width and height all the time
or
fixed width / dynamic height

Hi William
One more questions for you. is there a way to make sure that all the thumbnails are the same size without distorting the images (in the thumbnails). Or if a picture's height is bigger than its width is there to create the thumbnail such that the height of the orginal becomes the width of the thumbnails and vice versa.
Basically I just want the thumbnail pictures to be in a perfect row with all the picture heights the same and all the pic width the same.
Thanks
Sean , Chris,
2Checkout.com has added to their required cart parameters:
https://www.2checkout.com/documentation/newparameters.html
Do you have a version of 2checkout2.asp that will support these?
Thanks,
Nick , Is there a way to know if it is a SQL server with IIS5? My database type is MSACCESS.
Thanks! Rhona (rookie) , thats because you can not have exchange server running at the same time as the windows IIS virtual smtp server..
they clash with one another... and thats why the emails never get picked up by the iis stmp server
you have to send the emails another way like using a true remote mail server.. I am not sure but if your exchange server can do pop 3 you can probably use that that way
you may be able to change the pickup directory that cdosys uses under the virtual SMTP scenario, but I am not sure if that will work with exchange picking it up, but maybe it will work ok because you said it does when you paste them in there manually.. I do not really know.. you'd have to try it and edit the email sub routine to use that pickup path
"scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp" is where you could try editing that path , no, that only applies to random pictures and stats..
The issues you are talking about usually relate to issues created by switching back and forth between a local install and a live server install and not being careful about changing the paths in the settings depending on where you are running it from.
For example.. it trying to use a url at the server level that is only valid when you are running it locally cwilliams38394.7554976852, I would also double check that you changed the field size correctly and on the correct database that is being used in the connection string
, Yes, you are right. That was the problem. Sorry
Cheers
Roy
, I am getting closer.
This error actually does not have anything to do with the forgotten password feature or your database.
It has to do with the settings you chose for emailing.
it relates to aspmail and it not liking the remotehost you used, or something like that.... etc etc , Can you incorporate a secure log in within the scripting. I would like the account information to be secure without having to have the whole site using running through a secure (https://) path. If this is possible, the scripting is perfect! , I checked the SQL table and had 1 banner with no zone ID. I added it in
directly through the SQL interface and now it seems to be ok., The application automatically generates all the code for you for each method of calling banners. It does this on the zones screen.
If you are using flash it also possible that the actualy flash file is what is causing things to slow up.
It really all depends... it could also be server resource related
using sql server or access.. ? etc etc
all important details cwilliams38362.6615972222, Hello- I am trying to install the ASPPROTECT product and tried to read all the docs but still am getting the following error:
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x1980 Thread 0x1458 DBC 0x223c374 Jet'.
I understand about the physical path for the DSN-less connection and followed the example given. I got in touch with tech support for the host of my site and the give me the following as a physical path:
c:\sites\Single20\laptv1\database
Some observations:
1.- The database directory is outside the root dir but I think I am accounting for it with the path
2.- The permissions are ok
Any ideas?
Thanks
FP
