ummm.. ok.. Then this doesnt make sense.  On two out of the three machines I have in house here, the images do not show up.  They only show up on the server machine.  I am using the constant url on all three machines.  www.rfamilystuff.com  Does it show up on your?

,

Just as an FYI, I found the problem.  FP2003 has an "Optimize" feature that removes so called not needed spaces and comments from the pages.  It also completely screws up .ASP code.

I turned off the optimization feature and all the pages I was having problems with worked.  However, I would still recommend not using it too!

,

Just wanted to say how much I like the program! I hunted for days and finally purchased a Perl based product. After several days of goofing with it I gave up. ASPPhoto worked right on first install!!!!

Way to go!

,

1st off.. you appear to have some strange things going on with that domain. Looks like you have a frameset and are loading another domain in it which is always confuding especially if you are running the site off your home computer or something... I am not sure

That aside..

If I go to

http://www.bones.myftpsite.net/rfamilystuff/default.asp

and click on the "familiy" category

then right click on a broken image.. look at properties

Your linking the image to your localhost

see

http://localhost/rfamilystuff/pictures/Pic_3_1_thumb.jpg

and that is wrong, just like I said above

Nobody running the site off any computer but your development machine is going to see those pictures because the url isnt valid for them

My guess is in the settings you have the "PictureURL" set to

http://localhost/rfamilystuff/pictures

when it should be

http://www.bones.myftpsite.net/rfamilystuff/pictures

Good luck with this.. I am going to the bar.
If you need more help I probably will not be available until Monday.

cwilliams38394.7688773148,

ASPProtect v7 comes with working example code of protecting an image from being downloaded and also protects the true file location of the image on your server..

This comes with the system as an example folder with some files in it.

(some of the initial purchaser's of the system might not have that directory.. if that is the case please ask)

Here is how it works...

Basically we protect the image in 2 ways.

  1. We use Javascript right click disabling code that works in both IE and Firefox.
  2. We stream the image via a special password protected ".asp" page and use an image tag to call it. This hides the true location of the file. You can therefore keep your images out of your web or keep them in a folder in your web that does not allow file browsing. Under this scenario even if someone looks at the img tag html source they can not tell where the file came from. Doing all of this allows you to offer certain images only to people that are logged in.

All in all this is should be very effective protection. Yes, there are still ways to get the images like doing screen captures, but this will ensure that people viewing images are logged in to your site. This will in most cases keep them from right clicking and saving the images. This will ensure that people can not tell other people the image's url location and it will ensure other sites can not leach your images and bandwidth.

For the image protection examples to work you may need to edit some values
in the stream_pic.asp file that are valid for your setup.

Look at the source. The values you can edit are commented.

Now, you also need to call a valid "image file name" from the call_pic.asp file which is an example of how you protect a page with javascript and call a streamed image using an image tag.

Lasty, here is a great article I found on image protection and some of the things you can do about it and some of things you cannot.

http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID =41

, Does ASPProtect 7 work with SQL 2005?,

Are you reffering to the number of the left of the users name in admin.

I thought it was a counter at first but that number only displays the number of albums they have set up.

, OK, so I misread the instructions. Wouldn't have been the first time that happened...  but I just had an account get created, guy then paid, and... no activation. I had to go in the next day and do that by hand. What should I do to look for troubleshooting on the issue? I've got all the default directories set up and all the files where they should be. What next? , I purchased the photo upload software and it all works fine, except when I
try to click the categories I've created on the home page they don't show
any of the albums I've created and designated as that category. I went to
one of the example sites at http://www.minnessota.com/users/
place_new_album.asp?CatAdValue=
and it works fine. When you click Photos(40) it takes you to the 40
photos. I'm sure it's some setting I missed or something simple. Could
you email me back soon and let me know what to do/try? Thanks. , Yup, thats the problem I was having. I can get it to work if I don't do through the dl stream, but otherwise it prompts to save or open it instead of loading it in the browser.

I did read the change on making the content public instead of private so I think that will work for know...
, Thats what I needed.  Thank you!,

cwilliams38431.8787152778, Ok...thanks., Your customer should set up a special page that you send banner clicks to. That page is the page that should record the ip and whatever other info needed.

I suppose you could make a page on your end that records that info and finally redirects them to the intended url as well.

All using simple asp. It's really not that dificult to do, but it is a loit easier if you do it this way and keep it seperate from the banner system.

Here is some interesting information not totally related to answering your question.

The banner system does not track IPs on individual clicks because if it did.. 100 clicks on a paricular banner in one day would result in 100 rows in the stats database instead of just 1 row. That may not seem like a lot, but imagine 30 banners all doing the same thing mulipled by 30 days. Your talking 90000 rows in the database instead of 900. It all comes down to what ASPBanner was designed for which is performance and low resource use.

Some banner systems out there even keep track of individual IP's per banner display. Try to imagine how much that effects performance and how much extra space is used in the database for stats. It's crazy and also the reason that the more little features a banner system offers the slower and slower it begins to run.

I am sure I lose sales all the time because I offer less features, but the truth is I know those features will eventually defeat the purpose of why I created this banner system in the 1st place and that i just not something I want to do.

The banner systems with every little feature are just not well suited to very busy sites no matter how well they are designed.cwilliams38324.8386689815,

Not to be pushy, but how's the new version progressing?

I'm hoping these features will be in it:

  • possibly add the ability to move pictures around in an album. and maybe between albums, I must also remember to move the ratings and desc as well for that image.
  • possibly add a feature to store 3 versions of images uploaded
thumbnail, medium res, and high res/original
  • add option to store the images orginal name in the images description area during upload
may be helpful to people that name their images in a somewhat descriptive way

  • add support for the ibulc bulk upload client that I recently discovered

If you could use a beta tester, I'm still just setting up my site and would be willing to run a beta.

Thanks

Al

, that information is actually not helpful in determining whether parent paths is enabled or not.

You should really ask your hosting company or better yet try doing a server side include to page one directory up and see if you get an error.

example

<!--#include file = "../myfile.asp"-->
cwilliams38302.6484259259, I down loaded your latest ASPProtect.NET_v1.4 and now when i try to get in the admin area it won't let me in. The admin box is selected in the database under the admin user and i can update my user information (password and Address, not username). Is there something that was changed on this version or is it more likely user error on my part? What do you think i should try first?,

When adding a new user I am taken to a form.

There are several "required fields".

First and last names are 2 of them.

This is not needed by me and I need the company name as a required field instead. I work and deal with company names, not individuals.

So, i am unable to add any users due to this.

How can I either do away with the names as a required field or swap the individual names with the company name as a required field?

I have customers wanting to be able to view their own stats, but I need to do away with the required fields to work with my customer base.

-john

, Actually it is my own server (retired email server from my employer). I will check out the documentation again. I DID read that part, but didn't understand it enough. I'll dig deeper. Also my box has 2 CPU's, hence the $125 for ASPImage..., I am not talking about image resizing. I need to know if it is possible to limit the upload to images where their height or width is less than 500 PIX. ,

just leave the databse where it is, use the connection string generated for you and most importantly... put in a request with alentus for permissions to be set

tell them "
D:\Websites\www.mysite.com\aspprotect\data" and all of its child folders need change permissions (r,w,x,d) set so aspprotect can do its thing

until the permissions are set that connection string can not work

this is all noted in the installation docs...

,

Now that I really think about it.. instead of logging that info to a text file and worrying about folder permissions you could probably just save the post info into an application variable during the paypal ipn.asp post like so

For Each Item In Request.Form
formdata = formdata & vbCrLf & Item & "=" & Request.Form(Item) & vbCrLf
Next

Application("PayPalPost") = formdata & " - " & NOW

then anytime you wanted to see if that info was there or when it happened you could make a simple asp page in your site to display the results like so

<%
Response.Write "(" & Application("PayPalPost") & ")"
%>

cwilliams38421.6747453704,

again I will ask you what is the real error??

see the link above when I asked you the 1st time.
(I need the error details and line number.. etc etc)

and what kind of a server are you trying to run it on ?
you mention xp pro but in a confusing way ?

,

It turns out that I never enabled ASP.net on the site. After doing that the skins work much better. I'll have to poke around and see what other functionality is now available.

Thanks!

Al

,

Alternate Method to call banners from non ".asp" pages.

<iframe src ="http://localhost/aspbanner/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?Ban nerZone=4" width="468" height="60" frameborder="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Be sure to delete the space in the BannerZone variable above. I am not sure why it is doing that in this post.

You can try calling the banners in an simple iframe like so.
This method should work much better than the javascript method because users with javascript turned off will still see the banners. You also will not have any of the limitations the javascript method has. Iframe is now supported by most recent browsers so it is now a good solution. Here is a chart that shows which browser versions support iframe.

Be sure however to edit the height and width values accordingly as that is very important.

,

i downloaded the latest version. i also downloaded the sql script provided and ran in sql query analyser to create the tables.

After that i ran a special page to intially get into the system,

then setup a new user, then make them an admin,

and after that i logged out and again when i try to login iam not able to login.  When i check the ASpp_User table I noticed that the values in the fields "Login_limit" and "Active" in the ASPP_Users table in the SQL changed to NULL and 0. But if the value are Nulls or 0 it means it's not active and it's not allowing me to login.

Pls advice

,

Christopher,

Thank you again Sir. Your quick responses and helpful demeanor add greatly to the value of your software.

,

Hello,

I do not really understand what you mean?
There are no country and city lists in ASPClassifieds.

cwilliams38391.0301388889, its that server, it's way underpowered when it comes to running dynamic code and databases.. and that other app is probably stealing all the leftover odbc resources..... did you try doing the import on another machine running ASP? Thats the way to go.. I am afraid I won't be much help at the moment.. I am battling with a crashed system and a lot of lost data,

Hi Chris,

I tried changing using Notepad in the config_inc.asp

from:

If  Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = "" Then
 Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_SOFTWARE")
End If

To

Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = "iis/6"

and the albums still do not show up under the categories

Rhona (rookie)

,

Actually it would because you would just count records for that user that are also active

and yes, users cant delete albums.. they can only turn them off which really means the albums lose their active status

only the admin can truly delete an album the way the code is
(that's just the way I did it for some reason.. I don't remember why)

cwilliams38433.0343865741, You cannot use server mappath in the connecting string of the application. If you want to know why read my article.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp

Make your connecting string just like in my example.. do not use the oledb connection string either as it will cause other problems.

If you need to find out the path to the mdb file you can use server.mappath to get that info but do not put server mappath in the connecting string. See my article again.

then if the database folder has proper permissions and the path to the mdb file is valid it will work... otherwise you get useless errors,  its really that simple.

You also may want to download ASPTest from www.cjwsoft.com it is designed to show a person how to setup a working data connection.,

I have imported like 50,000 users into an access database when testing... it took like 4-5 minutes but worked..

course it really all depends on the setup how many you can get away with

something must still be wrong

have you tried just importing 1 or 2 users for troubleshooting sake ?

I would also recommend that after any timeout you reboot the server or at the very least do an "iisreset" to get things back to normal

, thanks!, Am very interesting in purchasing ASPProtect, but am curious as to whether anyone has had success/failure with Network Solutions "standard windows hosting" solution?  Thought I would ask just in case someone has had recent experience.  thx, ,
Excellent

Thanks, the DESC addition did the trick!

, I have no idea of what kind of 'stuff' to try. I'm running other asp apps that use there own Access databases with no problem whatsoever., its no different than linking to an image or another page. you have to adjust the path to the include file based on what directory you are in.. or you get an error

This is noted in the admin area on the code generator page which also gives you 2 examples of ways of calling the server side include. (Virtual or File include)

These threads below are also full of info. I found them by doing a quick search and they should help you out as well.
