I have a solution for asp already but thanks anyway. Is there a good book or other learning tool I can purchase that you might know about? I would know where to start about how create a timed subscription in .NET.

How and where does one add countries/cities to the list so that they appear in the Drop-Down list that advertisers see when they are placing a new ad?, Are you reffering to the number of the left of the users name in admin.
I thought it was a counter at first but that number only displays the number of albums they have set up.

I have SQL server.
From August to today I have used a very simple login system and now I come back to you for better.
I can insert, edit, delete users but it happens what I mentioned in my first message.
, If you have messed up the admin account or forgotten the admin password you generally should open up the database manually and add a new account or see what the old account is.
In version 7 however you have another option. Go through the installation instructions again. Specifically the part where you use the "get_me_in.asp" page to get back into the admin area by pasting in the password encrpytion keye you are using from your config file. , far as I can tell it does... that session abandon thing called in the logoff page should be enough to cover everything
once thing to be careful about
If you log in.. then log off... then go back to a page and do a refresh... you may in fact be reposting the username and password from before.. thus logging yourself right back in
Perhaps not.. all depends on what your doing... but it is something to be careful of when testing

When it comes to most languages I am a newbie, let alone ASP.NET. I did not choose to have an application for my site to be built in ASP.NET. However it was and I had paid for that program and it needed protecting!
Now I did have a few problems, however NONE were with ASPProtect.NET. It is brilliant. NONE were with Chris and the support he provides. I believe he must work 24/7 judging by the speed of replies and the timezone differences.
In the end all the problems were down to MY typos and a web host who insisted that any problem was a conflict and not their server set-up.(which it was!)
Having eliminated the typo and changed web provider to a less arrogant company. ASPProtect.NET installed and ran out of the box. Truely impressive.
As a newbie it is not something I would like to do again. But with help from Chris and from a friend with ASP.NET knowledge any issues were very quickly resolved.
An A+ recommendation for CJWSoft. I love it!

When viewing a list of albums with the navigation option 1, is there a way to get the Time Created sort to list Newest to Oldest, instead of Oldest to Newest.
Looking at the code in albums_navigation1_inc.asp, I can not determine how this works.

, When using the paypal subscription feature with ASPProtect for a new user the expiration in ASPProtect is actually not used. It is set to Null. This is because the PayPal system takes care of everything on their end.
So I can't see this happening because that field is not supposed to be used and the default PayPal subscription code we provide with the system does not populate that field.
Unless you populated the expiration date field on your own ?
Now that I re-read your post. The ASPProtect 6 reference was confusing me.
Now, if you have users that were never on a PayPal subscription that then sign up via PayPal subscriptiion that may indeed be a different story.
Is that what you are saying? I am looking at the code right now and it seems to me like it sets the expration date field to null on any new subscription activity regardless.
Let's forget about ASPProtect 6 as I don't think that matters. Please explain exactly when this happens and does not happen and exactly what sort of user we are talking and what their expiration dates are set at before they sign up for a paypal subscription.
Please be as detailed as possible so I really know what is going on ?, If you makes you feel any better the photo gallery app runs awesome off an access database. Mostly because all of the picture work is done in the filesystem, not the database. The load on the database is relatively low even with a lot of users., Humm..
I have no idea where links to hose graphics are being called.
I checked the source of edt_banner.asp and I see no calls to any images named like that

, Running in parallel for testing is actually a smart way to do it, but the truth is you don't use anything from version 6 except the upgraded database (we have a tutorial on how to upgrade the database)
Version 7 was a drastic change /rewrite to all of the asp files that come with the application. So you will be starting out with fresh version 7 ".asp" files and folders... You will also find that once you get version 7 running that editing certain things like the look of the users area and the login screens is much easier to do.
That being said any of your own ".asp" pages that you protect use the same protection code they always did, so there will be no drastic changes needed there when you do finalize the upgrade.
If using MSACCESS as the database I suggest installing the application somewhere in your web and using a fresh ASPProtect 7 database. Once you are familiar with the setup and everything is working fine. Attempt the database conversion and when your done stick your converted database in there and see if everything is ok.
Also, if you already purchased the application download the latest version before doing the install. It's the same download URL. If you don't have it email me and I can hook you up. I have added some new features and fixed a couple minor things since it's release.
So far the feedback on version 7 has been awesome..

see instructions above for what to do with it, I had never noticed this before, but a customer sent me email to say that they had set up their aspclassifieds profile such that they be contacted by email and not by phone.
However, in their ad, their phone number still appears. The lines in view_ad.asp that check for True values for the Contact_Via_Email and Contact_Via_Phone before displaying that information seem to always evaluate to True, regardless of their setting in the database.
I'm using an Access2000 DB for this. When I open the DB in access, I see the checkboxes correctly unchecked for phone and checked for email. However, if I do a quick test to display the retrieved values in the view_ad.asp (<%=contact_via_phone%> <%=contact_via_email%> they both display True.
What gives? I have had nightmares with Access and its weird handling of true/false 0/1 yes/no fields, but this is driving me nuts.
, remeber too.. you might have to edit code you used on your existing pages in your site so they still call the "check_user_inc.asp" correctly.. though it may very well work out so it works the way it is at the new site
any redirection code you might have done may need the redirection urls changed if you used full domain urls..
things like that... etc etc etc, Sorry, there is no option for that.
I'll take it into consideration, but the way the banner rotation logic works would make adding such an option very complicated.
Just give it an expiration date way into the future if you do not want an ad to expire anytime soon.
I usually just make all my ads expire in like 2020 or something like that since I don't want them to stop running either on some of my sites.

It does not give me the option to create a new user as is described in the general installation documentation. How do I access the program now?, Christopher
I have gone back to your original files and uploaded them to another server folder and instead of using a DSN I have tried this with a DSN less connection and changed the database to MS Access 2002.
This has corrected the problem.
I will check this out again using the DSN with access 2002 to see if this was the problem. It may be something to do with an older format of database on this particular server.
I will let you know what I find.

, so use the connection string the readme.txt in the sql installation folder file tells you to... it has the correct username.. I just posted that info above

Any connection strings that come in the datacon_inc.asp file the way it ships are examples. We fully expect people to edit them.
Also.. the SQL scripts primarly goal is give you a properly set up database with correct files and table settings. Users and permissions often need a little extra attention from the installer as that part doesn't always get set right by the scripts It really all depends on what sql user you are when you execute the scripts. Many times the user someone logs in with doesn't have permission to make users and set permissions.

no.. because you cant reliably tell a pictures image width without an image resizing component to look it up.. asp can not do things like that on its own
serverobjects has a free component called "imagesize" that can do it as well but you need access to the server to install the component

so if you cant do that with regular asp code you definetly can not stop the upload proces because the picture is too wide..
heck, that would be nearly imposible to do regardless.. even with the best 3rd party components at your disposal
even with an image resizing component you would have to allow the upload.. then check the pixel width.. then delete it.. tell the user what is going on...etc etc .. all a very complicated process

ASPClassifieds in only intended to run under US and Canadian regional settings as stated on the site.

It won't run right like that for a lot of reasons and it is not supported like that as that notice says.
The categories showing 0 is just one of the problems you will have.
If I help you fix this it will just lead to 4 more issues right after.
If you would like support with the classifieds application you need to run it on a server with US or Canadian regional settings like the site says. , We want to insert a hyperlink i the mesage area when we e-mail users from the Password Admin area. Is ther an easy way to insert the hyperlink so when the user gets the e-mail, they can just click on it and go the the page we want them to?

cwilliams38456.0983101852, I would say that it isn't all that difficult using mySQL for the backend....the main thing is to make sure you set the primary keys for auto-incrementing in your database. Alos need to make sure that any DELETE SQL statements are formatted like this
DELETE FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
and not
DELETE * FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
The same holds true for using MSSQL

If you do not need a particular variable to be set as a session variable simply comment that line out with single quote.
If you have an extremely busy site with a lot of users this is a good idea. If not, you probably don't need to bother doing this. I added some code in there so they will not be created if they are empty and that alone helps out a lot.
cwilliams38419.5459606481, I agree -- don't use the code as is. I provided it only as an idea for a work-around if your ASPProtect users with Internet Explorer complain about the Page Expired message.
I did not test it to be sure the parms coming into the target page (which would be part of the URL when bookmarking) are properly preserved. It would be easy to make sure they are preserved, but I am not sure the code in the example does that. I also customized the code with my own page header and footer.
I have the Option Pack but the site does not need it yet so I haven't applied it. I don't expect many problems re-applying my few lines of modifications.
The IE behavior is not a big deal if you provide an explicit login page, since users would have less interest in paging back to that. In my case, I simply gave a link to a protected part of the site, and when they take that link, they instead get the login form if they aren't logged on. Once they log on, they get their desired content page, to which they sometimes want to page back later on.
From searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base and other sources, I could not find a way (using HTML) to turn off IE's behavior of refusing to quietly reload a page containing form data. Netscape does not do this. So my IE workaround is to ensure my target page does not contain the login form. It does not solve the cause of the problem, but in this case it gets rid of the Page Expired error message for my IE users.
I also purchased ASPProtect for another site, and I'm using that "out of the box" unmodified. I'm very pleased with ASPProtect's functionality and the fact that it works completely without the need to customize. However, I've found it is very easy to customize if I want to.
