well, ultimately it comes down to this and this is stated in the footer of every page in the cjwsoft family of websites.
"In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live professionaly setup server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine."
and if you have some sort of weird timeout going on on your local machine and cant even give me a detailed error message there is just no way I can possibly troubleshoot it... I told you what to check and thats really all I can do... all my applications run on XP. As a matter of fact I do all my development on XP boxes.
It could be any numbers of things... odbc drivers, versions of vbscript... other software on the pc interfering such as antivirus script blockers like norton... all sorts of issues can pop up on personal machines running xp
If you put this up on a live professionally setup web server I can help you. On your local machine there is only so much I can suggest. , FILE includes can not use virtual pathing info
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
if you want to do it like that you have to use a VIRTUAL include,
works fine now , Weird things happening, when I upload using the vb method the image fails and error is that the image was empty.
Utilizing ASPUpload and after clicking upload file I get a blank screen, no preview, no nothing (it loads with the proper header/footer) but a completely blank body.
Any hints? , They really have do not have anything to do with each other as far as code and numbering goes, but I really do not fully understand your question or where you are going with this. (the part about the user setup ?)
Groups are more powerful than access levels and are meant to replace them. Access Levels are only there for backward compatibilty with older versions. , [QUOTE=cwilliams]actually, passwords can be up to 75 characters long in ASPProtect. the only requirement when entered from a non admin user is that they are at least 4 characters long.
what does MSAccess have to do with this ? Are you trying to convert and old system or something? I noticed you created and "old password" field in there ? Is there something I do not know about as far as what you are trying to do?
Passwords in version 7 are encrypted so I hope you understand all of that and realize you can not enter or change passwords right from SQL server. Also if you import info you must handle that accordingly and convert the passwords to encrypted format. [/QUOTE]
First off, I haven't imported anything from MS Access.. The only reason I mentioned it is cuz I thought initially it worked with Access and not SQL server.
I am not converting nor entering any data manually into the db, nor have I changed anything in the way the registration is made (don't know where the "Old password" has come from? thought it was a function you made?) , If you have messed up the admin account or forgotten the admin password you generally should open up the database manually and add a new account or see what the old account is.
In version 7 however you have another option. Go through the installation instructions again. Specifically the part where you use the "get_me_in.asp" page to get back into the admin area by pasting in the password encrpytion keye you are using from your config file. , Its one of the drwbacks of the encyrption.. sometimes.. VERY RARELY it will produce things that cause a problem and will not work.
It is something I am doing more research on .., on that particular page check the session variables manually (not using the include)
that way you are keeping the login access checking to an absolute minimum, elminating any form processing from the login procedure, and keeping the upload script happy
like so
<% If Not InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then ' do whatever End If %>
you could response.write something followed by a response.end
or you might even want to response.redirect them to some other page that using the "check_user_inc.asp" where they can log in
And if you are going to be using a free asp upload script use this one as it is probably the best pure code upload solution available as far as performance goes.
http://www.freeaspupload.net , Hello,
Yes, that is how it works. Unless you make modifications to the code there is no way to easily do what you are talking about.
If you design the site to be intelligent that scenario should never happen.
For example.. you should only be offering links to pages that the current logged in user has access to. You do this by checking the session variables and with simple if-else logic around your html links.
It requires some work but if you dont give them links to pages they dont have access to what you are talking about will not happen.
Here are some simple examples.
Here is an example using access levels.
<% If Session("Access_Level") = "1" Then ' show links to pages that allow access level 1 End If %>
And one for groups..
<% If Instr(Session("Groups"),"*6*") or Instr(Session("Groups"),"*7*") Then ' show links to pages that allow groups 6 and 7 End If %>
cwilliams38354.0786921296, UPDATE..
Installed a new rack mount 1u server this week.
3.2 ghz hyperthreading 1 mb l2 cache prescott cpu 2 gb pf pc3200 kingston memory SATA Raid.. (2) 120 gb drives running hardware raid 1
It is a supermicro 1u server case and server motherboard. The hard drives are SATA 150 120 gb 7200 rpm Diamondmax Maxtors
All high end server type stuff... It's a very powerful server and has been running great all week. 500+ hours uptime so far.
Running Windows 2003 Server Enterprise SQL 2000 Enterprise SP3 SmarterMail SmarterStats Windows DNS ZipEnable (which I am reviewing for them) ServerMask (which I am reviewing for them) A ton of ASP Components which I have purchased over the years.
So that means I can now focus my attention on creating software again instead of being a system admin. (Due to these server issues over the past few months I am now back to godly status as far as windows system administration goes.. not to mention I am now back up to speed on the latest processors and hardware)
So, getting back to ASP Photo Gallery...
I spent about 20 more hours this week on the new version of ASP Photo Gallery Pro.. I have another 40 or more to put into it as I have a lot I want to do.
I think it will be ready within the next three weeks. I know a lot of you have been waiting for something.
cwilliams38331.5907060185, Thanks for your rapid responses, your support is excellent!
It may be best that I stick with html then. You mention that is stresses the Version 7 software, would the unlimited version perform any differently if I use multiple zones?
Also, if I do go with a single zone, would either program be able to make sure each banner is unique, or would there by duplicates for each page view?
Sorry to post so many questions in one day. , Really, only you or your hosting company would know that information...
It is usally installed in the "_database" folder but the physical path including the drive letter to that can only be known by asking your hosting company or by using server mappath to learn the path on you own. http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp
That folder also needs special permissions. The permissions it needs are covered in the documentation for the software and generally only your hosting compnay can set those permissions.
The online support forums here are full of information and resources on correctly setting up data connections. It is ASP 101 and something you really need to have an understanding of.
I am happy to answer questions and try to help, but if you dont want to deal with it or can't we do offer installation services.

,
I was told by my ISP to use localhost and it should work and it does not. It does not require authentication to send e-mails.
Any other ideas?
Thanks , I have a very weird problem. At the top of the page, where there used to be
[Place Ad] [Classifieds Home] [Register] [Sign In]
now there is only
[] [Classifieds Home] [Register] [Sign In]
so the words "Place Ad" have disappeared completely. Can you please tell me which file in which folder would control this , The setting I am most interested in is what you have for the "Pic_Max_Image_Width" used when the image resizing components resize the big image
setting it to nothing or zero could cause this
, I am getting the same error looking at the previous post, I looked in settings and my Registration-URL is pointing at the correct location.
Is there any other thoughts on this issue
Thank you!
Matt2112 , Yes, that’s all I wanted to know. The problem is on my end. The server is not creating the .NET site correctly. I think I got it working now. Thanks.
In case you wanted to know? The only reason I asked you is because you mentioned that you where having trouble with overseas piracy and my account is new. I figured it was my user error by just though I’d ask you first. Hope you have no more piracy issues and have a good rest of the day.
Thanks again for the quick response. , I appreciate the offer to beta test... but its really more a matter of me getting it ready..
I have a lot done.. but a lot of things are hard coded to only work on my machine and some things have not been sorted out. Giving it to someone else to test would be a waste of time at this point as I they probably couldn’t even run it.
Lately the reason this project has fallen behind has all to do with my main webserver where I collocate.
1st it got compromised (we think by certain competitors who are always up to no good)... then windows 2003 server which I decided to go with on the new server gave me random problems... then the Cisco hardware firewall was acting up and making the sites run slow....then SQL server attacks on port 1433 from Korea when I took the firewall down....and as of the last few days I think the server just needs a new power supply. I swear for the last 2 months I have spent more time administrating my servers than working on code. Yesterday it was locking up every 30 minutes. There have been a lot of days like that and it takes up all my time until I get it situated. Especially since its over 100 miles to the collocation center. The APC unit I installed that allows me to remotely cut the power to hard reboot is a life saver.
Fun... I tell ya... and expensive.. (hardware, software, lost sales, and time) I am pretty much completely broke at the moment. It has been a very expensive few months.
But I like running my own servers... I run dns servers, email servers, sql servers, web servers.. I do it all. It's keeps me in touch with the latest software/hardware. Regardless , my servers ran well for years and they will again.
anyway.. hopefully I can actually get a new version of the photo gallery out before the month is over. It will probably be the last classic asp version. The version after that will most likely be ASP.net. cwilliams38295.6248032407, I did not make a mistake.. what I typed is what I meant to say. I think maybe you are taking it the opposite way as I explained it.
Regardless,
What you want to do... logging them in under https and then having them continue though the site under http is not possible.
It doesn't work that. way. As far as the webserver is concerned https is a totally different site than http and each have their own unique set of application and session variables.
In a sense no different than www.somesite.com is different then somesite.com (each has their own unique set of application and session variables as well).
Now, because of the nature of Forms Based Authentication session varibles created under one will not carry over to the over and thus no password access if you switch over from a secure url to a non secure url.
If you want them logging in under SSL you need to keep them under SSL.
That is not to say there is some ultra complex scenario to mimic the session variables on the non secure side of things (possible with a complex http post to a non secure page from the scure page telling it what variables to create and set), but doing so means a ton of work and also has security concerns of its own. , I am also getting the "Unspecified Error" message. I just transferred my site to IIS 5.0 and I get that error now. However it does not happen everytime. I can click on a page and it opens fine and then I hit refresh in the browser and I get the "Unspecified Error" message. What could be causing this?
, Hello,
I need some help with the following code. Please look at the area in red. I need to be able to set someting up to where the variable eval1 (a yes/no field in my database) is set to false after the associated link is pressed.
Thank you

, Chris -
I am encountering a problem with items showing up. When I click on a category and then select an item to view I get
THIS ITEM IS NO LONGER ACTIVE DO NOT CONTACT THIS USER AS THIS ITEM HAS BEEN TURNED OFF OR THE USER HAS SOLD THE ITEM.
I have verified the item has the item_active check. For giggles, I even unchecked with the same results.
Thoughts? , a. Sorry for the missunderstanding
b . Im running XP pro and done what was explained
c. The iis stops responding - Till I make iisrest
thanks
Ran , I believe that solved the problem as I have not heard from this person since I sent him the code., You know what, you really are frigin goofy to say you might think we
didn't write the software. I got source code to the license dll as well
as about 12 revisions of the application sitting on my development
server as well as about 1200 emails between John & Myself as we
worked on it. Not to mention all those .vb files that come with the
application. What do you think those are ? I bet you don't even really
know based on something you said in one of your earlier forum posts.
Did you even read this cause this is YOU... !!! http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo234-1.htm And we say right on the ASPProtect.NET product page to read that article before making a purchase.
Moving
on... it basically says on the site ASPProtect.NET works the way
it is shown to work. You can use it that way or you can further edit
the code with Visual Studio.NET. If you are so good with asp.net then
you should be editing the code to work differently or writing your own
authentication that works exactly how you want it to. End of story. You
keep arguing about things your done... you are so done !!! I won't keep
putting up with you., you dont want to use the virtual smtp virtual server method... you want to use a real remote email server with valid MX records..
ultimately though after all that is going is it is out of the hands of the asp code and it becomes issues other then the code sending the email... regarding to whether or not emails get blocked by certain organizations
For example: I have many aol users sign up for various systems I have running without issue. I use CDOSYS with my own server mail.cjwsoft.com which has proper MX records set up.
I would also try to determine the difference between blocking and spam/junk email filtering. It is impoirtant to truly know what is going on. Sometimes adding more information to the body of the emails going out will eliminate the junk mail filters from gettings the emails.
Then you have the various open relay lists that places like AOL use. If your email server or IP sending the email is on those lists for spamming you do not stand a chance. That is all out of the hands of the ASP code.
, Excellent
Thanks, the DESC addition did the trick!
- Jason , What application you talking about ? I'll assume ASPProtect. In the future please specify what application you are talking about.
ASPProtect 7 already has protection that is quite effective. The no concurrent login feature which will not let the same username under a different ip log in at the same time. Meaning if someone gives out their info they will screw themslves over because eventually they won't be able to log in. Only one unique ip at a time can log in so even of 100 people know the info it won't really do anyone much good except the lucky one that logged in 1st and stayed logged in. The username/password will eventually become more and more useless as more and people know it.
In addition to that is is a good idea to monitor the daily logs and single out a user you see logging in a lot. The more ips you see for that user the more chance it is multiple people logging in and you should take action. , the txt file is only lke 624 kb...so I'm not sure, I had never noticed this before, but a customer sent me email to say that they had set up their aspclassifieds profile such that they be contacted by email and not by phone.
However, in their ad, their phone number still appears. The lines in view_ad.asp that check for True values for the Contact_Via_Email and Contact_Via_Phone before displaying that information seem to always evaluate to True, regardless of their setting in the database.
I'm using an Access2000 DB for this. When I open the DB in access, I see the checkboxes correctly unchecked for phone and checked for email. However, if I do a quick test to display the retrieved values in the view_ad.asp (<%=contact_via_phone%> <%=contact_via_email%> they both display True.
What gives? I have had nightmares with Access and its weird handling of true/false 0/1 yes/no fields, but this is driving me nuts.
, not really, aside from looking in paypal and manually adding each one for each user...
how many users are we talking about anyway ?
and were any of the users new sign ups from scratch because if they were and that field didnt get populated that is weird?
ultimately aspprotect does not use that field. I was just storing it for the sake of storing it... so its not a big deal but I would still like to figure out what is going on
removing the expiration dates from paypal subscripbers will be enough to fix the issue your having about them getting the expiration notifications , I did everything mentioned here but it do not work ;( , My ISP uses ASPSmartMail. The email confirmation works except when I try to register an AOL user the server returns an error 500.
, I assumed when it said "expected path" that it understand that was the default and unless I wanted it in a different directory I could leave that blank. I'm checking on it now., I noticed that is grabbing the wrong URL for some reason. Even when i mouse over the URL its somehow getting the users sub directory. How.. i dont know... when i erase that users in the url it works perfectly.
I am looking at the code in the .vb file and i dont see anything that could be causing it to do that... but then again i am no programmer LOL
Its obviously kicking in that users subdirectory somehow... what are your thoughts? ,
Hello,
I want to create a user for my manager. This user should be able to see
all statistics (Reports) and all (Banners). But, he should not be able
to edit anything.
How can I create the type of user described above?
Best regards,
Mohammad Al-Mohsin
, 1st of all when I look at the site I see a lot of non US characters and I can see the regional settings of the site are foreign.
ASPClassifieds in only intended to run under US and Canadian regional settings as stated on the site.
Thus the BIG notice on the purchase page. http://www.aspclassifieds.com/purchase.asp
It won't run right like that for a lot of reasons and it is not supported like that as that notice says.
The categories showing 0 is just one of the problems you will have.
If I help you fix this it will just lead to 4 more issues right after.
If you would like support with the classifieds application you need to run it on a server with US or Canadian regional settings like the site says. , humm, I am curious
If these people are employees and sales reps why are are you using expiration dates at all ? and why the renewing issues... etc etc
I am sure there is a reason but you did not explain.
it might help me to better understand and possibly think about new features for new versions in the future., ok.. There are various spots that call the end_date variable. That is why I am asking. Then incorporating it into the forms that have been developed, made me wonder.
