Great software.

How easy would it be to copy the email address entered at registration directly into the login id field so that the user's email address is automatically used as the login id?

Also, where in the code can I turn off the random password generator - I'd rather force people to pick something they can remember themselves.

Thanks,

Nick

,

Yes, as long as each installation is in in it's own web site.
(or at least in it's own application in IIS)
Meaning you could have 5 directories in your site each with the app installed as long as each directory got set as an application in IIS.

Remember, a license must purchased for each running install except for development reasons on local machines.

cwilliams38400.5162384259,

Just got back 10 minutes ago..
Missed plane yesterday because of traffic and the flight today was 3 hours plus 4 hours of driving

The fact that you are using Server 2003 is not relevant. I am very familiar with it and all my sites run on it.

The ASPNET account will be there by default once the .NET framework is installed. It won’t just show up in the list, you have to search for it like my article mentions.

http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp

That error really means exactly what it says. You have to give that account permissions correctly. , site looks fine in ie and also firefox from a windows machine..

I dont have a mac and I have not heard of that browser before

Sounds like an issue with the way that browser handles and puts together html/flash in relation to the layout of your site which is fairly complex

less likely - could also be related to computer processor/resources as that is a decent sized flash file and could bog down certain machines on the client level.. internet connection as well ?

those are my guesses.. I dont see anything wrong from windows xp web browsing from a fast machine and on broadband.. looks pretty nice actually ,

Login failed for user 'aspgallery'.

Okay, shouldn't this be trying to use aspgalleryuser?

cwilliams38325.8848263889,

Please Note : Users with the option pack a new feature called groups that is much more powerful than access levels.

More On Access Levels

Again, Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code.

Access Levels and how they work can be re-coded to work in many different ways. However, you have to be a good ASP developer to make changes to it. Here is some information on how they work by default and also info on an alternate scenario we have provided.

In the "check_user_inc.asp" that comes in the root of this system Access Levels works as follows.

Level 1 has Access to - Level 1
Level 2 has Access to - Level 1,2
Level 3 has Access to - Level 1,2,3
Level 4 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4
Level 5 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5
Level 6 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6
Level 7 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
Level 8 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN

The "check_user_inc.asp" included in the "extras" directory is an example of changing the access level checking code
to work differently. In that "check_user_inc.asp" Access Levels works as follows.

Level 1 has Access to - Level 1
Level 2 has Access to - Level 2
Level 3 has Access to - Level 3
Level 4 has Access to - Level 4
Level 5 has Access to - Level 5
Level 6 has Access to - Level 6
Level 7 has Access to - Level 7
Level 8 has Access to - Level 8
ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN

If you get creative you can create some interesting access level checking scenarios.

Here is some additional info..

If the access levels are too restrictive you can ignore them all together and create your own totally custom solutions.
Here is a quick rundown of some of the things you can do.

Ok... so if you want to be really specific about what each user can see and
can't .. here's an example of what you can do

Don't use the access levels before the include file..
Don't worry about what you set a user to in the admin area since the access levels won't be used.

Do something like this..

Every time a user logs in session variables are set that you can access at
any time.. thus allowing you to know who they are.

So you could do something like this...

<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>

<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->

<%
If Session("USERNAME") = "bob1267" or Session("USERNAME") = "carl45" or Session("ADMIN") = "True" Then
Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "Yes"
Else
Session("PASSWORDACCESS") = "No"
Response.Redirect(Request.ServerVariables("script_name"))
End If
%>

The following URL explains what Redirects are.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/redirects.asp

That would in effect create totally custom access levels.. but you would
have to do it manually for each user.

You can also do things like this after a person logs in

Show custom html to any specific user based on either their username or
access level ... like so

say there was a menu and a certain link should only show up to username
"paully67"

you could do something like this

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE></TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>

<br>
<a href="main.asp">Home Page</a>

<%
If Session("USERNAME") = "paully67" Then
%>

<br>
<a href="paullys_page.asp">Pauls Stats Page</a>

<%
End If
%>

<br>
<a href="links.asp">Links Page</a>

</BODY>
</HTML>

Or you can show custom HTML or links based on Access Levels or any other info.

You can do just about anything with if-then statements and
using the built in vbscript functions..

Hopefully this info will help to give you some ideas...

Bottom line is you have to do some work within your site to make the Access Level system really come alive.

cwilliams38114.6506712963,

You not getting a blank page.. you getting an error. You just can't see it because it appears you edited the page background to black.

error '80040211'

/aspprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp, line 174

,

It's seems to work fine after renaming the file, rebuilding the application, and editing the web.config file to point to login.aspx. It looks like I can use your fine product and thanks again for the help. It was unusually easy. Merry Christmas…

, The way the application works is one separate installation and database is required for each (IIS Application).... not only is it a licensing thing but it is also the nature of (forms based authentication) because every application in IIS has it's own set of application and session variables and they can not be shared with other various IIS applications.

That being said if you plan to run a separate install for each web/IIS application buying new licenses is fine

If you want to run one installation and database and share that with other web.IIS applications it is not technically possible.

Each web/IIS application requires a seperate install of ASPProtect.NET, Will purchasing an additional license resolve the issue which will allow another installation or is this a function of the application that it can only protect one site per server?, Well, you cant have a login box on the home page when using ASPProtect.NET.. there is no way to make that work. I tried all day to come up with something and it is not going to happen. I suggest you make a login button and link it directly to the protected page you want them to start on. The redirect or link them whereever from there. Either that or write your own forms based authentication solution that works exactly the way you want it to or edit the code accordingly since you have the source.  It is not a feature we advertise for the product regardless. It works the way it works. ,

Permissions and Folder Locations

By default and to keep things clean we store everything in folder called "data"

That folder then has it in 4 sub folders

database (where the .mdb and temporary .ldb files are handled)
export (where the aspprotect export files are saved)
logfiles (where the aspprotect logfiles are saved)
user_pics (where the user pictures are saved)

Doing it this way makes it very easy for a system administrator to right click on one folder and set permissions for that folder and all of it's child folders.

Now, that being said.. you do not have to use these folders.

For example if you already have a folder in your web with modify permissions for the anonymous webserver account then you can use that one folder to store all of the 4 things above.

You'd simply edit your data connection string to point to that folder and then edit the other paths in the settings area of ASPProtect.

We did it that way so you would have options in case your hosting company was being difficult with your ASP hosting needs.

cwilliams38403.6837962963,

ok

thanks

,

Is there anyway to limit the number of Albums each user can make?

, So do I just replace the four folders that came with aspprotect with the four (in my case domain directory) folders in the patch or just move the files?, It runs on either... I used IIS

I dont remember much about installing it except it went pretty smoothly / no issues,

here ya go

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo169-1.htm

,

I am not entirely sure how one configures the system to assign a user to a specific group.  For example, let say I have created two groups A and B, and I have pages protected by the code generated in the admin area for groups A and B.  I know I can assign access to these groups in the admin area.  However,  it is not clear to me how I do it automatically through the registration process.

,

Hi, I have not gotten anything from you about it.

click on the PM button below and send it that way through the forums.

Thanks

,

I have purchased ASPProtect to secure a web site that I administor for a soccer league.  I am having a hard time getting the code to execute.  the instructions are to include this code at the top of the web page under the Language identifier.  Like this I think:

<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>

<!-- Begin ASPProtect Code -->
<!-- Groups with access to this page. ( * Admins * ) -->
<% GROUPACCESS = "4" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
<!-- End ASPProtect Code -->

However, nothing happens.  I am not sure if I am missing something.

FYI:  the "Check_user_inc.asp" file is in the root directory of the site which is actually two levels down on the d: drive of the server.
      The web page code is located below.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

, well, ultimately it comes down to this and this is stated in the footer of every page in the cjwsoft family of websites.

"In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live professionaly setup server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine."

and if you have some sort of weird timeout going on on your local machine and cant even give me a detailed error message there is just no way I can possibly troubleshoot it... I told you what to check and thats really all I can do... all my applications run on XP. As a matter of fact I do all my development on XP boxes.

It could be any numbers of things... odbc drivers, versions of vbscript... other software on the pc interfering such as antivirus script blockers like norton... all sorts of issues can pop up on personal machines running xp

If you put this up on a live professionally setup web server I can help you. On your local machine there is only so much I can suggest. ,

For some odd reason, the the export path has two backslashes (\\) at the end, thus generating an error each time I try to export. For example

C:\path\website\protect\data\export\\

This appears toward the bottom of the import_export_manager.asp page and is called by =ExportDirectory.

I checked under settings tab, no path ends with a "\". Any idea where else I need to look?

, What application you talking about ? I'll assume ASPProtect. In the future please specify what application you are talking about.

ASPProtect 7 already has protection that is quite effective. The no concurrent login feature which will not let the same username under a different ip log in at the same time. Meaning if someone gives out their info they will screw themslves over because eventually they won't be able to log in. Only one unique ip at a time can log in so even of 100 people know the info it won't really do anyone much good except the lucky one that logged in 1st and stayed logged in.  The username/password will eventually become more and more useless as more and people know it.

In addition to that is is a good idea to monitor the daily logs and single out a user you see logging in a lot. The more ips you see for that user the more chance it is multiple people logging in and you should take action. ,

Everything is running fine.. I can read ads... reply to them. but when I click sign in or register.. I get a server error.

Any suggestions

Thank You

, Not without changing a lot of code. If you didn't want encryption you really should have went with version 6. Encryption is a big new feature of Version 7 and it is inter-mixed with it the code in a lot of places.

As for doing the export and import you have to create a valid export file and then read through this very thread which explains how to import an export file with clear text passwords.

This is from the admin area regarding the text file format
The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it.

Generating an import file from your own database requires good knowlege and understanding of Access's Importing and Exporting functions. It is not something I cover as the process is different for everyone and not really very hard. , ok, it works fine here with that password encryption key and password you sent me. I also looked in the database and I got the same encrypted password password which definetly has a weird hidden line break in it. (for example if you copy and paste it only the 1st part shows up like when you pasted it above.. as it is really the same length as the that guys email address)

Maybe you do not have the newest code. (I added some code to check for those weird line breaks and take care of them) I am going to PM you the latest version. Please download it and just take the "check_user_inc.asp" file out and copy it into your existing install.

Then try logging in as that person again.

If that works you should also grab the new version of "password_admin/check_admin_inc.asp" as well,

Sorry, I forgot about that when I got hung up on the install problem.

 I'll tackle your explanation now to see if I can get it working. Since I already bought the software I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks

, "do you know a way around the BinaryRead problem with ASPProtect?"

Let me rephrase:

Do you know a way in which ASPProtect can be modified to get around the BinaryRead problem?

Thanks,
Michelle
,

I have a customer who is asking the following:

... could you make a link from it to our website and is there a way to see what traffic goes from us to them.  They are going to pay a commission on sales, however I need to be able to track who views their site...

Wishful thinking or could you add code to track their IP address and display in the report section?  Not sure that would be enough to satisfy this request.   Suggestions?

Thanks, Lance

,

Hi -

We are trying to set up ASPProtect 7 so that the user is redirected to a specific web page based on their group membership.

For example, immediately upon successful login:

Group 1 members are directed to page A
Group 2 members are directed to page B
Group 3 members are directed to page C

Users will only ever belong to one group.

We tried to use the Redirect_URL feature but it causes the browser to loop.

Could you let us know exactly how to do this.  We are not ASP programmers and need to work from an example.

Thanks!

,

when you get back to work.. your   "redirect.asp" needs the password include file at the top of it.. or that wont work either..

and of course those pages you send people to all need to be repaired

,

Hi,

Actually that is not a feature at this time. Only the admin can add an image for user. If you look at the code for that you could adapt it for individual user use fairly easily provided you are decent with ASP.

That feature will probably be added some day, but there was no time to add it to into the current version and I can not give you a time on when it will be added. The complicated part is making some sort of approval process in case a user adds something undesirable and also limited file sizes which is hard to do without somesort of 3rd party uplaod component being involved.

,

One is for paypal subscriptions (recurring billing) and the other is for single payments

http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=185& ; ; ;PN=1

http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=186& ; ; ;PN=1

You can delete any of the 3rd party payment directories you are not using including the the 2checkout one... (all those folders really are is a copy of the users folder specially modified to handle a certain payment processor)

Just Don't delete the "users" folder though as there are things you do there that you can not do anywhere else..  quite a few things..  editing existing account info, looking up passwords... etc etc

cwilliams38446.6055555556, Chris,

Ok new puzzle. I have now managed to gonfigure it to get the admin screen and update members. All excellent news. Seems to work a treat.

But have used the code you give in your getting started guide to add at the very top of an aspx page to be protected. The path is configured correctly I am sure. the aspx file is in the root, the protect program is in a folder now configured as an application (hence the steps forward to get to the admin screens) on the root, so address should be foldrname//protectpage.ascx.

Proble when I load that aspx page is as above. The exact same config error,oww!

I am sure its a setting on my server now, but I dont know what to ask for, Any ideas...

So close now!

Andy
,

You can also try setting asphttp's user agent property to some browser version like in this example. It might stop that info from showing up when it fetches a page from the server.

<%
Dim BanObj1Http
Set BanObj1Http = Server.CreateObject("AspHTTP.Conn")
BanObj1Http.UserAgent = "Mozilla Compatible (MS IE 3.01 WinNT)"
BanObj1Http.Url = " http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?Ba nnerZone=1"
Response.Write BanObj1Http.GetURL
set BanObj1Http = nothing
%>

Also... I dont know if these values below will work but I got them from looking at my nt logs.

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)

And here is more info on the asphttp component and it's settings.
http://www.serverobjects.com/comp/asphttp3.htm

cwilliams38248.6481365741,

Are there any problems with modifying the default database fields.

I need to have an update from net billing and they use different settings in the database than the default.

Will the interface still be functional?

,

This is a great article from my old powerasp.com site.
Connections And Server Database Permissions

cwilliams38084.7458217593,

ok, here is what is going on

you are password protecting an ".asp" page that requires querystring info to run correctly   (example - "somepage.asp?ID=3"")

that is something I never intended anyone to do.. while it does handle and repass the querystring info along during successful login it does not re-pass that info during a failed login as you have found out

this is all by design.. the only reason the system re-passes the querystring info at all is because I wanted to make it smart for the sake of the remember me/cookie feature.. so if someone was using that and bookmarked a page deep in your site with querstring info...then when they went back to that bookmark they would get authenticated and still see the page as intended with the querystring info in tact

it was a nice feature never intended to handle any situations other than what I just described...

now...
notice the url in the browser after failing a login.. then logging in successfully.. it is missing the querystring info

that more than anything is what is going on..  browser caching can cause some confusion when dealing with this because the browser likes to return you to the page minus the querstring info... when that happens a simple browser refresh at that time may very well solve the problem and then you see the page you are supposed to see...

To avoid all of this...

One solution to this is to always start people logging in to an ".asp" page that has no querystring info. That way this won't happen. Once they are logged in you can then offer them links to the pages they need to go to. (you of course still want to password protect those pages)

Another solution is to log them into a page with no querystring info and then do a response.redirect to the page with quersytring info.. thus accomplishing the same thing but without the possibility of the issue because of a failed login.

Another solutions is to do checks in your asp page for missing querstring info.. and if it isn't there do something about it like send them somewhere else.. or display a message about there being an error... etc etc

So,basically you don't want to tell people to login into such and such page with querstring info... and providing a username and password..... You can do it but like you found out it can cause an error if they mess up logging in the 1st time. The system just was not designed to handle that. There are complex reasons for that involving security that would just take me too long to explain.

I hope this makes some sense to you.. it is very hard to try and explain
