Hi-
Thanks for the quick response to my previous posts.
This is my issue:
I have read over all the docs and installation instructions and can't find a way to do this:
my default page in my root dir will be a log in page which will take the user once his level is validated to a "home page". Is there a page in your examples that will perform the function of this log in page? or should I rename check_user_inc.asp as the default and change it's html output to make it look like my log in page?
I also looked within the code for check_user_inc.asp and did not see where to specify where the user will go once he signs in.
Your help is appreciated
,
Best setup I recomend is just setting up a rig and making a workgroup.
No real reason for a production machine to have any access to internal
security when you think about it.
classic asp should be pretty easy to move, just set up new webs and
dump the scripts in there. If you have 2 machines its always easier to
look at the one while your building the other. Basically copy the setup
and tada... the only thing you might need to remeber is components (if
your using any) and thats usually not a very big deal either.
Point sort of being at some point your going to have to change that
thing around and while its no fun you have to imagine now is a better
time to bite the bullet and get it set up the right way. Your
alternative is to mess around for hours and hours praying that you
change domain wide security to the point that running NET
apps on that domain controller works. Personally I wouldnt sleep well
knowing I had just messed around so bad with the OS that I had no clue
what bugs and security holes I might have accidently opened in the
process. I wont even get into the possible things that might stop
working on the rest of the domain if you fiddle with accounts like
"Network Service"
Oh and if thats not enough reason to make you think about it, consider
how hard it will be to try and rember what you did at 2AM 6 months from
now if that machine takes a dive or some critical update undoes what
you changed.
I feel for you though, trust me we have all been down that road once or
twice. Get some sleep and in the AM the task at hand wont seem nearly
as bad. You live and you learn, and you will definatly be WAY better
off making things right sooner than later
,
I agree -- don't use the code as is. I provided it only as an idea for a work-around if your ASPProtect users with Internet Explorer complain about the Page Expired message.
I did not test it to be sure the parms coming into the target page (which would be part of the URL when bookmarking) are properly preserved. It would be easy to make sure they are preserved, but I am not sure the code in the example does that. I also customized the code with my own page header and footer.
I have the Option Pack but the site does not need it yet so I haven't applied it. I don't expect many problems re-applying my few lines of modifications.
The IE behavior is not a big deal if you provide an explicit login page, since users would have less interest in paging back to that. In my case, I simply gave a link to a protected part of the site, and when they take that link, they instead get the login form if they aren't logged on. Once they log on, they get their desired content page, to which they sometimes want to page back later on.
From searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base and other sources, I could not find a way (using HTML) to turn off IE's behavior of refusing to quietly reload a page containing form data. Netscape does not do this. So my IE workaround is to ensure my target page does not contain the login form. It does not solve the cause of the problem, but in this case it gets rid of the Page Expired error message for my IE users.
I also purchased ASPProtect for another site, and I'm using that "out of the box" unmodified. I'm very pleased with ASPProtect's functionality and the fact that it works completely without the need to customize. However, I've found it is very easy to customize if I want to.

, I got ya. Well hey, that's what's great about the iframe right?
, After you click the link in the confirmation e-mail you are directed to
the Thank you page. Right above is a sign in link. When I
click this I get that funky error message.
I am trying to integrate the scripts with the look of my
site, if that is what you mean by changing things around too
much. But, I don't think I have done anything out of the ordinary.
Cheers,
Roy
, thank you for such a quick response -- It sounds straight forward - so I should be all set. Thanks again., IT worked just as cwilliams said. I did see the IP address being stored in the table but it didn't dawn on me that it was tied in to the view count, I tried it from a different IP address and it worked great .
Good coding Christopher
Thanks
John
, Okay, got it!! just in case anyone else is having the same
problem, after creating the new thumbnails using the
"generate_new_thumbnails.asp". Turn off the random photo
selection for a 10 minutes or so, and then turn it back on.
bwinklesky38324.5085069444, In addition to that I just noticed the </href> you have in there.. man that is some scary stuff you came up with.. that may appear to work and make a link but it is not correct. Each link will work but never truly be closed.
That is just not valid proper use of the anchor tag.
You make a link in html like so
<a href = "somepage.htm">somepage.htm</a>
http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_a.asp
Then your surrounding each link with <span lang="en-us"> </span>
Not sure why ?
, Really awesome, thanks..
If possible please be sure to respond to the email they send so the review ends up authenticated
, See, and that's what I thought. What's interesting is that if I call either an aspx page or an asp page in the iframe tag, it asks me if I want to open the page, it doesn't display it. I'm using IE6 so there's not problem with the support for the tag.
I'll keep looking to find out what's going on. I think the iframe method might work best.

, I have reviewed the permissions requirements for folders from the support documentation but do not see the 'internal guest' account shown in our system to allow internet access to read/write to the access database.
How else can we locate the proper account (or is it possible there is none?) to use to allow permissions to access the Data directory if it doesn't show up as 'Internal Guest'?
cwilliams38417.7773032407, I would like to delete the SQL tables and set them up from scratch using enterprise manager and sql query manager and see what happens
If that is ok with you let me know.
Something is wrong like I said... almost seems like the database is caching old password info from the field., OK, so I misread the instructions. Wouldn't have been the first time
that happened... but I just had an account get created, guy then
paid, and... no activation. I had to go in the next day and do that by
hand. What should I do to look for troubleshooting on the issue? I've
got all the default directories set up and all the files where they
should be. What next?
,
I have switched to Alentus and have the permissions set correctly and Parent paths turned on. I cannot figure out how to connect to the database. Should I have the database in the aspprotect/data/database folder, or in the data folder that Alentus has in my root directory? once that is determined, how do I decide what the path to that database is? I have tried many things, but this is what the setup page tells me to enter in the data_conn file DBQ=D:\Websites\www.mysite.com\aspprotect\data\database\ASPP rotect_access2002.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp
Thank You
, Is there a way to set various members to upload a limit of photos. So, one member can only upload 5 photos in 1 album and another can upload 30 photos in 2 albums. Even if you just set a permission for the number of uploads for each member.
Thank you
, Well, you cant have a login box on the home page when using ASPProtect.NET.. there is no way to make that work. I tried all day to come up with something and it is not going to happen. I suggest you make a login button and link it directly to the protected page you want them to start on. The redirect or link them whereever from there. Either that or write your own forms based authentication solution that works exactly the way you want it to or edit the code accordingly since you have the source. It is not a feature we advertise for the product regardless. It works the way it works. , We can't seem to find the purchase emails for this install of ASPProtect.
It would have been in May 2004 for NetOptions LLC or CareerMatrix.com
We noticed it should have been v6 of ASPProtect.
Can you resend the download links?
, It's MS Access, Version 7 (the Full one).
Anyway, I had inadvertently changed the user_id field type to "number". When I changed it back to "autonumber", everything went back to normal.
Thanks you very much for your quick reply and sorry to have bothered you.
, ok, well as far as what else to try I already told you..
you need to manually compare all those field settings with the sql script and make sure they all got set correctly...
you also need to tell me what email/name you ordered the application under... before I will continue this support with you.. at this point I don't know if you purchased the application or if you are using the unsupported lite version
, Our login works great, variables even help determine menu options. When user logs on, however, it opens in a new page. Is there a setting somewhere that sets whether you can open in a new or existing page?
Also, when you log off
, you do not run "check_user_inc.asp" by itself
Pages you protect include that file at the top.. when they someone goes to a protected page if not logged in a user then sees a login prompt..
after loggin in they see that same page as normal
its an automated process..
now, that being said if you really want to you a specify a page to be redirected to after the 1st login when you edit a users info. You can also redirect anyone anywhere like using a simple ASP redirect statement in your code.
Personally I feel that redirecting people all over the place is poor site design. ASP is all about dynamic code and ASPProtect is all about dynamically tailoring pages to the current logged in users... so why redirect people all over the place.. it justs complicates things because you still need to password protect the places you send them to.... which means twice the work and twice the confusion.
Also, here is a Version 6 thread about redirecting manually that still applies to version 7.

, If they changed the paths they moved the site.
That means permissions for the database folder must be set again.
If permissions are not set and you are not using the correct new path info then you will still get errors.
Those errors the server reports back and quite generic and do no mean exactly what they say. They just mean everything is not perfect.
And everything just has to be perfect..
cwilliams38306.5069328704, Tony,
ASPBanner.NET was discontinued about 14 months ago. It is no longer supported in any way because quite frankly the classic ASP version is faster, more stable, has more features, and is a lot easier to install and get running.
If you PM me via the forum you are welcome to a copy of the current ASP Unlimited Version. It can serve banners to any type of page extension. All you have to do is ask for a copy.
Whether or not your existing ASPBanner.NET database is exactly the same structure I do not know, but I believe it is. You should compare the two if you plan to keep using the old database and make any neccessary changes so the old database has the exact same structure as the new version. If there are any differences they are very few.
, Thanks for the information. We added the name manually instead of using the App_Name variable., I just moved servers and now my "code" ads are giving me errors...
"google_ad_width" is undefined.
I have tried adding the width and height... taking it out.. all the basic stuff.
Any ideas?
TIA
, Thanks for that. The upload size is just as effective and possibly a better solution to maintain server space.
What about individual gallery permissions. So only 1 member can post in only 1 gallery. I have a forum of 500 plus members so if they want to add a gallery than setting a permission would be idea for each gallery.
, I would say that it isn't all that difficult using mySQL for the backend....the main thing is to make sure you set the primary keys for auto-incrementing in your database. Alos need to make sure that any DELETE SQL statements are formatted like this
DELETE FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
and not
DELETE * FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
The same holds true for using MSSQL
, Just wanted to say how much I like the program! I hunted for days and finally purchased a Perl based product. After several days of goofing with it I gave up. ASPPhoto worked right on first install!!!!
Way to go!
, You cannot use server mappath in the connecting string of the application. If you want to know why read my article.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/physical-path.asp
Make your connecting string just like in my example.. do not use the oledb connection string either as it will cause other problems.
If you need to find out the path to the mdb file you can use server.mappath to get that info but do not put server mappath in the connecting string. See my article again.
then if the database folder has proper permissions and the path to the mdb file is valid it will work... otherwise you get useless errors, its really that simple.
You also may want to download ASPTest from www.cjwsoft.com it is designed to show a person how to setup a working data connection., Oh big deal !!... John mentioned some site and you feel like you proved some sort of point. Aren't you special ?
Look, I am telling for the 3rd time you can't do what you are talking about with ASPProtect.NET. Are you braindead cause I really am beginning to think you are and I for one am done trying to be somewhat nice to you ??????
I am also willing to bet you had no idea what viewstate even was until I mentioned it and then you probably went and read up about it so quit trying to pretend like you know what is going on! If you knew what was going on you would not be asking more questions about ASPProtect.NET than any customer in the history of selling the application.
As a matter of fact you should send me like 400.00 just for all my time you have taken up because you are totally frigin clueless !!!!!
I should have cut you off the instant you offered me illegal software from p2p right in a forum post., My guess it they are runnign some sort of ad blocking software like norton ad blocking. Something on the client side blocking ads or anything with the word ad in it.
I would investigate that., Well, I assumed I'd be able to tweak this thing but it is all so intertwined it doesn't pay to mess with any of the files. Hence, I'm going to have buy a different system only a week or two after buying the unlimited version here.
As I leave I want to give you some impressions here. While the system is low-cost, the 99 dollar version is missing a few pieces that I think would bring the value to 99. It is one thing to talk about the speed/performance, but to a degree that's hard to measure, and to anyone with web advertising on their site, performance will always run second to potential site income.
It definitely needs a user interface and registration for advertisers, and it definitely needs a single variables file for changing the hundreds of variables for which there is no control. I had to search on my own just to change the look and feel.
Lack of multi-zone support is a serious drawback. I would submit that anyone with a serious website needs it, and will gladly pay you 139 over 99 for just that one feature.
Take them or leave them, they are just suggestions.
, I just made a new admin account and I still can not log in using it ?
Did you by chance edit the code by adding LCID info or something like that ? Something is just very wrong.
The simple example protected pages can not even be logged into ?
, (User Photo Upload Mod) for ASPProtect Version 7.x
This will allow an individual user to upload a user picture instead of just the admin.
Notes: This is a down and dirty mod. The user upload code was copied from the admin area and there are no safeguards. Meaning there is no limit on the file size a user uploads and there is no confirmation process in case something they upload is inappropriate. etc etc etc
If you want that you will have to work on that on your own.

Directions:
Back up your existing ASPProtect installation.
copy these files into your "users" folder

, yes, there is upgrade pricing
http://www.aspprotect.com/purchase_v7_upgrade_pricing.asp
and upgrade instructions here in the forums
if you install it in the same directory structure you wont have to make any changes to the pages in your site you have already protected.. because the code to protect a page will be the same
now, anytime you upgrade an application like this there is going to be a lot of work involved especially when there have been so many changes
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo173-1.htm
whether or not you upgrade is up to you
Like I said you can make version 6 work with CDOSYS and a remote email server. You just need to do some research on CDOSYS code and spend the time needed to make the code use it. I however am not going to spend time detailing all of that when I created a new version that does it.
, hi,
no.., not unless you come up with some clever way to handle it on your own
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=369&KW =https
read 2nd to last post
The way ASPProtect ships it is designed to either be in http:// the whole time or https:// the whole time.... (there curently is no solution from me allowing going from one to the other)
sorry
, Just an update,,,
the permission were all correct.... i left it and tried from my pc at work and it works fine... so i dont know what hahhpened.... thansk for your quick response

, not really, aside from looking in paypal and manually adding each one for each user...
how many users are we talking about anyway ?
and were any of the users new sign ups from scratch because if they were and that field didnt get populated that is weird?
ultimately aspprotect does not use that field. I was just storing it for the sake of storing it... so its not a big deal but I would still like to figure out what is going on
removing the expiration dates from paypal subscripbers will be enough to fix the issue your having about them getting the expiration notifications
, check permissions for the user you are connecting to the SQL database.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo122-1.htm
That user may not have permission to make new data
Also, check all field and table settings manually by comparing them to the SQL creation script we provide. You may very well be missing auto increment and primary keys which would make adding new data not work.
It is most likely one of those two things.
