How do I recover or reset admin password used for the aspprotected pages. I have installed it months and months ago, but now can not recall the password. Any help appreciated, as I do not feel like installing it again.
, again I will ask you what is the real error??
see the link above when I asked you the 1st time.
(I need the error details and line number.. etc etc)
and what kind of a server are you trying to run it on ?
you mention xp pro but in a confusing way ?
,
thats not good.. its a web server configuration issue of some sorts ?
post is a common method for forms.. if it is not supported it is something you should ask the server admins about.
Is this a windows based web server running true microsoft ASP because that error is usally associated with non windows IIS based web servers from what I can see by doing a google search ?
ASPProtect only runs on windows servers running IIS and True Microsoft ASP.

My guess is your web server is running Apache Unix or something like that.
, Hey, I run a business and I will not have things like that mentioned in these forums.
, Hi Chris
Unfortunately the bl**dy server was down and unavailable for 17 hrs so I couldnt even get to see what the settings were!
It is on, the relevant users appear to have all rights for the data/tempstats folder.
I'm guessing you're going to suggest turning it off and see if the problem still appears.

, I believe I'm having trouble with Domain masking in that it appears to affect the ASP Photo Gallery login screen.
My address is forwarded and masked by my domain "company" (in this case: Godaddy.com). It is forwarded to a Win2000 Server running at my static home IP.
From outside of my network, the website appears to work fine...even the default.asp page works to the point of the login page. After entering a login and password - you hit the login button and the page simply reloads only with all of the header and footer information removed.
I found that by eliminating the domain masking feature at the domain company, the problem gets eliminated and the entrie site works fine.
Has anyone else run into this problem? I'm guessing it's the way the domain name is held in the browser cache but I'm not sure how to resolve it so that the ASPPhotoGallery scripts and pointers work correctly.

epeterson38365.6397569444, I set the max image width to 1000; previously it was null. Now I'm getting server errors:
page not found, then, service unavailable (the page is there). But in a new album, the images imported fine and it seems to be working now, despite the IIS issues.
I think my host restricted the amount of memory and resources my site is allowed to use.
, Installed latest verison Doesn't seem to have corrected problem. Still with same message. I wonder if deleting this user and putting him back in might help. I have not however tried any other user names and passwords.
, FYI. There is a typo in the upgrade (6.0 to 7.0) instructions. It specifies adding a field named "passwords". Should be "password"., Your suggestion worked - thanks - , I really need more detailed information to say anything about it.
I would try different methods of calling banners as well to see if that helps., I've encountered another problem. When i edit the link for existing banners and save it, the banner reverts to the old link instead of the new one.
The directory where the the database is located to rwed so the permissions is not a problem.
Any advice?
Thanks
,
actually, passwords can be up to 75 characters long in ASPProtect.
the only requirement when entered from a non admin user is that they are at least 4 characters long.
what does MSAccess have to do with this ? Are you trying to convert and old system or something? I noticed you created and "old password" field in there ? Is there something I do not know about as far as what you are trying to do?
Passwords in version 7 are encrypted so I hope you understand all of that and realize you can not enter or change passwords right from SQL server. Also if you import info you must handle that accordingly and convert the passwords to encrypted format.
First off, I haven't imported anything from MS Access.. The only reason I mentioned it is cuz I thought initially it worked with Access and not SQL server.
I am not converting nor entering any data manually into the db, nor have I changed anything in the way the registration is made (don't know where the "Old password" has come from? thought it was a function you made?)
, "get_me_in.asp" just hangs during a new install. Nothing happens no matter how long you wait and IIS may temporarily hang up as well.
You may very well be running something like norton antivirus with norton script blocker on your server? Or something similar?
It can cause issues when ASP uses the filesystem object and cause never ending page hangs like you are having.
Read this..
http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2180, One of my users is looking to do mass updates (multiple records). He wants to be able to update the "Expiration Date" for a group of users who work for the same company. , Need to clarify something..
Your talking about the page where a new user registers right ?
Your not talking about adding a new user from the admin area ?
Either way under no circumstances do I see anything like you are saying happening nor has any other ASPProtect user ever mentioned this probem.
I am going to need to see your site and see this happening. It just makes no sense the way you are describing it.
Also. did you edit the registration page code in any way. If so please revert back to an original copy to ensure this is not some sort of problem introduced by editing the code.
cwilliams38164.8115046296, from the import page in the admin area.
The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it. You can also import that text file into MSACCESS. , My server is Server2003. I could not find the folder settings you mentioned. I did find a iuser which I added as specified. I retried to perform an upload. Still same message. But it does move the JPG to the picture folder. So, part of it is working. , No problem. I get it now.
I added a Session Variable for "Counter". Then wrote an If statement around that. When the user logs on for the first time they see a window pop, after that the normal start page.
Thanks
, I really do not know to tell you the truth. I'll do some research.
The script only allows .jpg, .jpeg, and .gif extensions.
If someone uploads a file called... "filename.vbs.jpeg" with bad vbscript in it I seriously doubt anything can happen because of it because of the extension.
But I really do not know.
It has never happened to any sites I have or know of.
cwilliams38447.0491435185, I've got an ecommerce module that's running on it that uses access for the db. Connecting into that thing is slow as well, but I figured that's because of the complications and volume it handles.
So as far as importing on a faster machine and copying it over to the server...what suggestions do you have?
, I would like to create a login form on the home page which will not be password protected to the site for members so that they can login right from the home page and not a password protected page like many sites have. And every portal I have seen.
Plus the login form looks really pretty and proffesional on the home page
...
I can't find anything in the documentation that says how to do this or if it's even possible. Everything I have found says to password protect a page and then direct them there which isn't what I would like to do.
Here is the code of the login page which is an asp include file on the main page:
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
</head>
<body>
<td><img src="images/a026.jpg" alt="" width="187" height="21"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="3">
<tr>
<td><table width="180" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#AAAAAA">
<tr>
<td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td>
<td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="178" height="1"></td>
<td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td>
<td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><form name="form_login" method="post" action="">
<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="5" cellpadding="0">
<tr>
<td width="53%"><input name="textfield" type="text" class="style-01" value="username"></td>
<td width="47%"><a href="#" class="link-02">Forgot pass?</a> </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><input name="textfield2" type="text" class="style-01" value="password"></td>
<td><a href="#" class="link-02">Not registered?</a> </td>
</tr>
</table>
</form></td>
<td><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="" width="1" height="1"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan="3"><a href="#"><img src="images/a027.jpg" alt="" width="180" height="15" border="0"></a></td>
</tr>
</table></td>
</tr>
</table></td>
</body>
</html>
Does anybody know what values I would put in the form to send the correct login to AspProtect. And, if I would have to add any extra includes or code to it.
TIA
, if you use either of those options the mail server info you use must of course be valid (example: mail.somesite.com) your host can provide that info
you should also make sure your sending the emails using an account at your email server.. not some other email you have
other than that if it does not send emails it could be because your hosting company may require authentication for outgoing emails...
ask them ...
if that is the case the version of ASPBanner you have does not support sending email that way and you would need to add the necessary code to any places that send email... in order for emailing to work
, My client has a list of 13,000 members that
have already been assigned ID's and passwords with a
homegrown system.
When doing a bulk import, will we be able to retain the userid and password or will a new id be assigned during the bulk load?
Thanks in advance for your help.
, Also.. if you want to customize each person's experience individually it really does not make sense to use groups or access levels for that purpose alone.
I mean, why bother making a group or access level for every user and worrying about keeping track of it all when you can just access the available session info about the user to create dynamic pages specific to that user.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=198& ; ; ; ;PN=1
That is why that information is there.
You can of course use some combination of the two technologies as well should you have groups of users that you want to have a slightly different experience.
cwilliams38433.6259606481, it's ok
one step at a time and at each step testing things.. then when you mess something up you can figure it out a lot easier
cwilliams38456.1106018519, Yup, it probably means the virtual directory is not configured as an Application in IIS.
You did put this in a plain folder in your web, correcct ?
Not a subweb
Regarding the application settings for the virtual directory.. if it is your server you set that stuff up in the IIS console.
If hosted somewhere it is there responsibility to have that set up correctly for you and you need to contact them and ask them what the deal is.
cwilliams38455.9035300926, Now that I think about you may very well be able to use the existing login_form_inc.asp page
the header and footer files for the users area may be ok as well.
probably the smart thing to do is try your old ones and compare them to the new and see if everything you need is there. If not add it by looking at the source html and comparing.
All other files should definetly be replaced with the new.
, Thanks for the install. After many hours I finally got part of the
system working. I can log in and log out as a user. My problem is I
want the pages
accesses by Members ONly. The database will contain the names of
the members and only they are allowed access, and no one else. I
tried Joe Blow to log in and it worked, the only thing is Joe was not
in the database and he should have been locked out and a page come us
saying something like "you are not a registered user, please complete
the membership application" and then link back to the root web,
application page.
I am also afraid of breaking the codes you provided thus far. I also
want the password protected pages in a sub-web of the root web.
This may sound like elementary stuff, but this newbie is having
constant trouble. I am also referencing books on ASP and Access
and VB and still come up with a dead end. Search the net and come up
with a few codes which are described as something I am looking for, but
dont want to add any thing like that for fear of breaking the whole
thing.
Any suggestions?
, Tell tell me some info about your install?
How am I supposed to know what is going on when you are not showing me what you have in your web config file and also the directory structure of the install or what you are putting in a page you are trying to protect ? It almost sounds like you are not editing the paths correctly in the various places. I mean yes you told me something about the "map" folder but what I saying is tell me more detail.
BTW: this is a very important setting in the web.config file and must be edited accordingly so the path is right.
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />
Basically your showing me random errors and posts left and right and I honestly have no idea what your doing ?
Ulitmately though I am trying to help you in this situation like the web site says.
We offer tech support for installation of the base application purchased in it's native form. In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine.
Meaning I am not going to keep this up if you keep asking question after question after question regardign your local XP Pro installation. There is only so much I can assume or guess when you are running this on a local development server. I know you got all sorts of problems getting a decent live server to run this on but that just isn't my problem. Get this up and running on a professionaly and correctly setup live server and when these random configuration errors pop up atl least I can go run the pages and look at them. Right now I am just confused by nearly everything you have posted today. Half of looks like basic ASP.NET path issues that you need to sort of on your own based on where you installed the application on the machine and what you have in the web.config file.. etc etc etc
It is sounding more and more like ASP.NET is way over your head. If you want a copy of the classic ASP version of ASPProtect you are welcome to it. I think you will be a lotter better off sticking to classic ASP unless you really start reading up on ASP.NET and learning more about how forms based authentication and the web.config file work.
, To hopefully wrap this thread up...
This user showed me his site and things were working for me as they should.
We came to the conlusion that the weird behavior he was experiencing was because he was using AutoComplete in Internet Explorer....
It was automatically filling in the fields with his username/password that he had autocomplete save.
So it was a web browser usage issue.. not the code.
cwilliams38165.5102546296, Hi,
I don't see any good reason to rename any of those files.
Changing them though may involve changes to the code recompiling, etc etc... it is not something I support.
, The protection code for my group3 is:
<!-- Begin ASPProtect Code -->
<!-- Groups with access to this page. ( * GP03 * ) -->
<% GROUPACCESS = "3" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
<!-- End ASPProtect Code -->
btw - sorry but I am using v7
and thanks for the assistance
, Good Evening,
I have been trying to log into my site using the protected pages comments you have in support. I have copied the code in the ASPprotect 7 guide.
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
and pasted it in my page, set the the IIS to open this page and the page will not open it and the page will not open and the error is
When I remove the two lines of code everything goes normally.
I have aspprotect in its own directory in the website. I have read the installation several times and I am afraid I am missing something blatently obvious so I really appreciate you thoughts.
I am presently using redirects. I like not haveing to use them as your comments have suggested. I have pulled all that code from the pages I desire to protect during this test.
You would set the groups during users signup the same way you would do the expiration in the following example.
My hosting company uses ASPEMAIL - and I am trying to setup the mailing settings on ASPPROTECT - but cant seem to get it to work. I've tried many different options - here are two that are the closest - but have issues:
1. If I use the settings:
I can get get notified when a new user logs in, email a user from aspprotect user screen if they are in my company and have a valid email -- but I can not send to the outside world - I get an relay prohibited error.
2. If i try to change the setting to use the Hosting Website email server - I get the following results: I dont get notified when a new user registers, I cant send to internal company people - but I can send to the outside world.
**any suggestions on what to do? I'm trying to work with the people who manage the mail servers - but since I dont know anything about them - its a bit difficult.
ok, that probably means the physical path you have set for the logfile directory (in the admin settings area) is not correc t
the error pretty much means just what it says
