Chris,
Yesterday when I would access the get_me_in page with the password key, I was then taken to the default login page. It did not give me the option to create a user.
Today, when I entered the password key into the get_me_in page, I was taken right to the create user page. So, yes the problem has been resolved. I have no idea why though.
, Hello,
It is very possible (just basic ASP and database accessing techniques) It is just not the sort of thing I support in the forums as it is a customization related.
Even for me something like that would take 1-3 hours of coding time. Basically, it is just not something I could just explain to you real quick.
You might want to pick up a good book on ASP or check out some of the great resources out there. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=17
Doing stuff like this is relatively easy, but can be time consuming work.
In the future please use a more descriptive topic for yours posts "I need help" is not exactly helpful to anyone else searching through the forums . I therefore renamed your post accordingly.
I really try to keep the forums organized and clean. That's all.
Thanks cwilliams38420.5234490741,
MSACCESS or SQL server ?, That's exactly what it was.
The site owner couldn't see their own ads because Norton was blocking anything with the word ad in it.
On another note: I changed the word 'ad' to 'listing' and got it to show even with Norton.
, Has this been resolved ?, Did you see this thread. It shows how to set up the project in Visual Studio in detail.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo85-1.htm
, We are using this photo gallery to manage galeries of all the prodcut
lines we carry, we have no use for users to be able to sign up so i hid
that part of the pages, what i am wondering is how can i hide the rest
of the navigational links and still be able to get logged in to
admin. Here is a link to the unfinished demo site.
http://www.scs-cases.com/photogallery/
, On second thought guys, it would must easier to change the code using modulus as follows:
<% If PicIndex mod 6 = 0 THEN %> </tr> <tr> <% End If %>
This will end each row and create a new row after each 6th picture. It'll be must easier code to work with and change. This code must be placed in the PicIndex For Loop.
If you have any questions, JPortnoy@Checkernet.com , That bit about zones makes perfect sense and seems surpassingly simple for me to integrate due to our categories and page contents being based on the same if/then functionality.
Regarding the user, I guess you mean that I could simply recreate a limited admin interface for users based on the interface you have included for me, is that correct? I realize how subjective the question is, but do you think that this would be a bad idea?
I'm leaning toward your software here. I have a budget that could easily cover a variety of programs, but the UI for advertisers at banmanpro, for example, seems far too complicated for my users. Also, banmanpro doesn't have supporting compatible softare I am interested in, such as your classifieds software.
I guess I am trying to buy a good shell from which I can do my own customization and coding, and into which I can integrate future additions such as your classified ads. Does this seem like the right place to be?
Thanks much for your time! , Some users have reported an error during the registration process. Here is what I believe is happening.
When you register you get sent a validation email that has a link in it that looks something like this.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum//activate.asp?ID=testAD3AD2 97BC
That link can only be clicked on once which will activate your account.
If you somehow run that link more than once you will get a message telling you there was an error.
I think some people are double clicking on the link they get sent and running it more than once.... or clicking on it again after registration is complete. It probably happens very fast so they never see the success screen.
Either way, if you can login to the forum nothing is wrong and you are already activated. cwilliams38089.6248842593, We have no add-ons for anything but accepting payments through paypal and 2checkout... if you want to accept payments through some other setup you have make a payment directory addon and write code to do it based on the system you are using..
We provide the ASP source code so that is doable for someone that is good with ASP. If not then it won't be doable. ,
The only reason no one else
asked this many questions is possibly because they didnt NEED the functions i
am TRYING to do.
We offer tech support for
installation of the base application purchased in it's native form.
In other words were not planning on spending weeks holding your hand and
teaching you how to build your application or modify the one you bought. Not
because anyone wants to make it hard on you but because there is a practically infinite
number of things someone could be trying to do and the only way to give you the
exact answer would pretty much involve either writing it for you or having a
look at your code to see what the heck your doing. Sorry but my time isn’t cheap
nor do I have a lot to spare. I already gave you my approach on what to do and
what you should be looking at but obviously you’re not catching on. SO ONCE
AGAIN, PLEASE LOOK AT THE SOURCE CODE AND DECIDE HOW YOU WANT TO HANDLE YOUR
END OF THINGS BASED ON HOW THE APP DOES ITS THING. I really don’t know how I
can be more clear that that. I don’t have a crystal ball that can tell me where
you’re going with your own code, what the final requirements are... what field
you want to add or remove for the database etc. There is a demo up that
everyone can look at and play with so they can get a feel for how the things
behave and look. It’s not my fault your naivety led you to believe you could do
anything with it in ten seconds. I mean if I just add some wings to my car
maybe it will fly, and if you just add a shopping cart and a few products maybe
you can start your own Amazon.com with that software right? Sounds good to me…
It would take me longer to re-write YOUR code
than it would to have LEARNED ASP.NET and made MY OWN.
Well thats one thing we both agree on, I bet it would take you a long
time to rewrite the code when you dont know how to write it in the
first place. By you own admission you dont know enough about what your
doing to be messing
with a .NET app at this point. Maybe you should take your own advice
and LEARN
SOMETHING ABOUT IT. What’s even worse is that application isnt even
complicated, its 101 stuff honestly. One class, thats it! Your not
looking at thousands
and thousands of them that you will have to read and comprehend. If you
can
actually “read” the code we kept it lean and mean and to the point.
Nothing
strange or random, no references to a zillion things all sprinkled here
and
there. Its reads like a book if you know the language. That’s why
developers
buy these apps all the time. Not because they couldn’t write one
themselves,
but because they know their time is valuable as well and for $150 which
is less
than most get paid an hour they couldn’t be bothered. Furthermore we
both spend a lot of time making sure these apps are "dumbed down" so
that the average programmer without a lot of object oriented background
can pick up the coding style tweak it if they need to. Some people do
modify things to suite their needs and
others are
happy with our apps "as is".
Just to recap we already wasted two days yappin about your
jacked up servers and after you went through THREE of them and finally got one
working you said the code was working. Red lights started flashing in my office
by the time you got to the second screwed up machine, but hey weird things
happen so at that point I wasn’t 100% concerned. Technically we could have and
possible should have cut you off there as the policy in place is pretty clear
about us not being your tech support crew when it comes to getting your machine
working properly (especially one we cant even look at). Go check those posts
again both Chris and I were answering your questions and being as helpful as
anyone could possibly expect.
Several more days have been spent answering questions about
how to modify your application and again that’s not our responsibility and we don’t
support modified versions of the software for all the reasons that should be
obvious. No software company does and if I have to explain why that is well this
conversation is beyond hope.
Bottom line is the responsibility to support that
application ends the moment you get it running the way it was shipped. Were
pretty damn decent about going above and beyond and a lot of the time we go
into things we shouldn’t have to. If you have well thought out and specific
questions by all means ask, this isn’t some sort of thanks for your money now
get lost operation. CJWSoft has been around since the beginning of Microsoft’s
entrance into the web application market. We have thousands and thousands of
happy customers because we are developers and enjoy working with other
developers along the way.
You’re not the first N0oB to show up, but you’re the first
one I can think of that ever tried to tell us we didn’t write the apps we sell and essentially
wanted to argue that we don’t know what were talking about. Meanwhile you
should have been done with your thing days and days and days ago, not in here
yapping off and showing your ignorance to the other developers that regularly
browse these forums. You trying to tell me how CafePress works is a joke, I happened
to have been part of the team that worked on the first few revisions of that
site and again you really didn’t even understand what I was getting at in that
last post. LINK TO LOGIN PAGE not link to every protected page on the site.
If you think I am pissed off at you, your wrong. I'm
just irritated with the whining about this and that and rather than
admit your over your head you come back with half baked remarks that
only make sense to you. If you think you can
google
a few terms and come back here talking smack like you’re actually
someone that
knows what you’re talking about your just making a fool of yourself.
You sound like a guy from China trying to tell me how to speak
English... My
advice
is get a few books and start learning or try actually reading up and
listening
to the other bazillion knowledgeable developers out there that do a
great job
posting articles about the subject. You might just learn something and
actually
get your project finished before 2010 and when you do please come back
and
re-read your posts with "enlightened eyes" so you can see what a goofball you are for saying half
of the
things you have said. I am not in the mood to keep helping you get your
project done step by step. I have huge projects of my own going on and
if I thought you could actually provide a descent project specification
I might offer to make the changes for you at a serious discount so you
could go away and everyone would be happy. Problem is I dont get the
feeling you could explain your way out of a paper bag let alone provide
a group of programmer the techinal specs for your project.
Your best bet is to post a link to the start of
this thread at www.AngryCoder.com I'm sure a few of people over there would be more than willing to give you a ton of usefull advice
Google 4GuysFromRolla… a great resource site with example, just
dont come back here telling me those guys/ladies posted things
that dont work either.
Chris has written hundreds of articles on PowerASP, a great
place to start looking as well… www.powerasp.com
I've been spitting out code for longer than I can remeber and I still look
thing up on this site because its LOADED with great info. That happens
to be one of the very first ASP sites that went up on the net so lets
just say he knows a bit or two about the subject.
I'm sure your frusturated but
your pushing your luck
seriously. 38 posts about this subject in a week and your over there
hacking away on your virus infested WaReZ machine which isnt exactally
the ideal development rig. I mean we provide the code and your supposed
to provide at
the least a very basic knowlege of what your doing and a production
grade platform to test it out on. To me thats like buying a
car and then asking how to drive it... then bugging the dealer to teach
you and when you smash the thing complaining because no one told you
that your not supposed to drive into a wall. I have the same policy as
the dealer, show me something wrong with the car from the factory and
we will fix it for you NO QUESTIONS at all with our appoligies, but
really once you take it off the lot what you do with it is your deal
and its not our responsability in the least.
, you basically have to edit the html in the links in the various pages and remove them... some are in includes files
use a text editor and be causious / back things up before you remove links so you can revert back ,
I'm having another problem-hopefully it's a quick fix.
it tries to go to a page: default.aspx
Server Error in '/' Application.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested Url: /default.aspx
When i log in as admin from the aspprotectadmin/default.aspx that works fine...
where should the user be sent when they log in? Am i supposed to specify that or is it automatic? Why isnt it working for me? I dont believe i changed any settings that correspond to that either , Installing and running NET on a DOMAIN CONTROLLER is a BAD idea period.
Besides the security risks you will have nothing but endless problems
with that setup. Domain controllers ARE NOT and NEVER were intended to
be run as any sort of application server. Your best bet is to run your
asp and asp.net scripts from a member server or one set up just for web
apps. Of course if your in the mood to mess around endlessly it is
possible to make that work, but why would you want to when the prefered
solution is a heck of a lot easier.
, When did you download the ASPProtect Version 7 zip file ?
what did you enter as a wrong password to make that happen ?
does it it do it when other wrong passwords are entered ?
cwilliams38452.722037037, Just got back 10 minutes ago.. Missed plane yesterday because of traffic and the flight today was 3 hours plus 4 hours of driving
The fact that you are using Server 2003 is not relevant. I am very familiar with it and all my sites run on it.
The ASPNET account will be there by default once the .NET framework is installed. It won’t just show up in the list, you have to search for it like my article mentions.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp
That error really means exactly what it says. You have to give that account permissions correctly. , who knows, thanks for your input, I am further than I was when I started talking to you!, It does not matter what directory name the ASPProtect files and folders are in but you cant go moving around critical file and folders like it appears you did nor is there any reason to.
All that is is saying is that the users folder, the password_admin folder, the scripts folder, the check_user_inc.asp file, and all the other files and folders that come with the system can be in any directory name as a whole.... but that doesn't mean you can go messing around with the files and folders in that directory.
I assure you 100's of users do not use "aspprotect" as the main folder name and they have no issues doing so.
Regardless, you need to explain in much clearer detail exactly what you did and what paths you used and what is where. At this point I really do not know what is you did as your post was not clear to me.
You should also check that you have entered correct path info in the admin settings page area. The register page is one of the paths that geths set there. , They send an email?
Hope my spam killer didn't zap it...
, the sql databse is the same.. the sql script is the same for any version
as the site says they are essentially the same app with very minor changes... if you are trying to share the same sql database with both it's not gonna happen because the table names are the same
truthfully: that app runs nealry as well with msaccess as it does with sql so I wouldnt get too excited about running it withe sql. You will not see any benefits unless you have a ton of simultaneus (sp) users. cwilliams38312.1125115741,
Chris,
I'm setting up the subscription locally so I can't test it out until I
put the site live. I have a question in how the paypal
subscription works.
1. What is telling paypal to return the info to the ipn.asp page for
processing? Is that something I have to set up in my paypal
account?
2. I'd like to use Paypal's
auto return. I assume the return page would be ipn.asp?
Would I just need to add a redirect to the login page at the end
of the appropriate txn_type if/then statement?
Thanks,
Michelle
P.S. I did finish the integration of the webwizforum with
ASPProtect. Thanks for the great headstart on that! Will be
putting everything live in a couple weeks.
, Sorry Chris,
It didn't fix it. Looks like I had the current code. I bought the system in mid-April. The version says 3-10-2005.
I do know that in the database, the password shows as " éG" but in the error code, it shows as " éG". The square character is missing.
Thanks, Mick
Edit: well heck. It skips the square box here too. The password in the database puts a square box in front of the éG , The protection code for my group3 is:
<!-- Begin ASPProtect Code --> <!-- Groups with access to this page. ( * GP03 * ) --> <% GROUPACCESS = "3" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <!-- End ASPProtect Code -->
btw - sorry but I am using v7 and thanks for the assistance , Is there a way to set various members to upload a limit of photos. So, one member can only upload 5 photos in 1 album and another can upload 30 photos in 2 albums. Even if you just set a permission for the number of uploads for each member.
Thank you , Is there somthing I need to change in the settings to get the hit count to update?,
Best setup I recomend is just setting up a rig and making a workgroup.
No real reason for a production machine to have any access to internal
security when you think about it.
classic asp should be pretty easy to move, just set up new webs and
dump the scripts in there. If you have 2 machines its always easier to
look at the one while your building the other. Basically copy the setup
and tada... the only thing you might need to remeber is components (if
your using any) and thats usually not a very big deal either.
Point sort of being at some point your going to have to change that
thing around and while its no fun you have to imagine now is a better
time to bite the bullet and get it set up the right way. Your
alternative is to mess around for hours and hours praying that you
change domain wide security to the point that running NET
apps on that domain controller works. Personally I wouldnt sleep well
knowing I had just messed around so bad with the OS that I had no clue
what bugs and security holes I might have accidently opened in the
process. I wont even get into the possible things that might stop
working on the rest of the domain if you fiddle with accounts like
"Network Service"
Oh and if thats not enough reason to make you think about it, consider
how hard it will be to try and rember what you did at 2AM 6 months from
now if that machine takes a dive or some critical update undoes what
you changed.
I feel for you though, trust me we have all been down that road once or
twice. Get some sleep and in the AM the task at hand wont seem nearly
as bad. You live and you learn, and you will definatly be WAY better
off making things right sooner than later
, FILE includes can not use virtual pathing info
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
if you want to do it like that you have to use a VIRTUAL include, Hello- I am trying to install the ASPPROTECT product and tried to read all the docs but still am getting the following error:
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x1980 Thread 0x1458 DBC 0x223c374 Jet'.
I understand about the physical path for the DSN-less connection and followed the example given. I got in touch with tech support for the host of my site and the give me the following as a physical path:
c:\sites\Single20\laptv1\database
Some observations:
1.- The database directory is outside the root dir but I think I am accounting for it with the path
2.- The permissions are ok
Any ideas?
Thanks
FP
, Its one of the drwbacks of the encyrption.. sometimes.. VERY RARELY it will produce things that cause a problem and will not work.
It is something I am doing more research on .., I just installed the software, but I can't find any place where I can see when users logged in, can someone please tell me where I can do this?
Thanks , Hello Chris:
Let me run some more test if it's working on your end it should be on mine? I have made some custom updates to the code but no in that area.
Thanks, -Ricardo
, Editing the look of the login page.
In this version editing the look of the login page is very easy. You can make this login page look exactly like you web site if you like.
You want to edit the "scripts/login_form_inc.asp" file.
It can be edited with any editor as long as the existing bits of server side code in it and the login form remain in tact.
The best thing to do is back it up before you start editing it. Then if you goof it up you can revert back to the original.
If you edit this page with FrontPage enable the "show all" feature. Its the little PIE sign in your icons. It will show the server side code as yellow things on the screen so you know where they are and can be careful not to delete them.
see screenshot
cwilliams38448.8132638889, You shouldn't be renaming or moving anything... unless you really really understand what you are doing and are at an expert level expert as far as ASP coding goes.
like I said earlier.. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=354&ge t=last#1130
redirecting with version 6 is not supported but this thread tells you exactly how to set it up (I showed you this thread in an that earlier post)
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=17&KW= redirect
This thread below may also help in case the page you want to start on with a login form should not be password protected..
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo18-2.htm , The path is correct for the logfile directory. This is still not working.
, I have been able to successfully edit some text colors, but there seems to be one page that wont change the text color. Inside the users/ folder, the login.asp page, i cant seem to change the text color from ffffff to 000000 so it can be read on my background color. Every page in the script is correct but this one.
Thanks. , Also, I notice you are using iframes to load the banners. That is probably your issue more than anything. That browser probably does not handle them well.
Possibly try other methods of displaying the banners and see what happens. The XML parser is usually one the best methods to try as it will output just your banner code straight into your html. , The way the application works is one separate installation and database is required for each (IIS Application).... not only is it a licensing thing but it is also the nature of (forms based authentication) because every application in IIS has it's own set of application and session variables and they can not be shared with other various IIS applications.
That being said if you plan to run a separate install for each web/IIS application buying new licenses is fine
If you want to run one installation and database and share that with other web.IIS applications it is not technically possible.
Each web/IIS application requires a seperate install of ASPProtect.NET, I think you can either change some things in your PayPal account settings regarding your default currency..
or add a hidden variable to the PayPal form code ASPProtect uses like this guy did. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=237&KW =paypal
The hidden form variable code would go next to all the other hidden variables in no particlar order.. just look through the paypal code in notepad till you find a bunch of those hidden form variables lines in a row. , Anyway,
How busy your site is actually won't be the only factor. Really the application should not restart unless something happens. If the IIS application is reseting alot it could very well be the ISP restarting the server or doing IISRESETS as well or other sites on the server causing the application pools to restart.. etc etc etc Quality ASP hosting is important. Regardless your hosting company most likely will not admit to anything be out of the ordinary.
As far as that directory deleting itself on you.. I doubt they will have an answer for that one. All I can tell for sure is I didn't put any code to delete it in there. ,
