Just copy the files over. have permissions set on any folders that need it, and edit the data connection so it's valid for the new server. Once you get logged to the admin area go update all the settings so any urls are valid.
really its no different than a new installation so just follow those directions but use your existing files.
There is no domain pointing involved...
As logn as the old stuff is not accesible on the live internet you don't need another license.
As for my installation fee of 25. That is only for new installations. I charge more for something like that as there may be compications such as custom changes to the code that I would have to deal with. Customers often custimize the login and users area.. etc etc .. and there may be hardcoded urls and what not to worry about changing.
LASTLY, I noticed all your other posts are in the ASPProtect 7 area so the installaton process for that is a bit different than for Version 6 so what I said above is not quite the same process. Please make sure you post in the correct area when asking questions. , Glad your getting the hang of it.
no difference as far as that goes. It is just different ways to reference the server side include file and it's location on the server cwilliams38457.6019675926,
I wouldn't bother doing that. If pic uplading doesn't work it is most likely permissions to the directory pictures are uploaded to. If they are not set correctly it will not work. That dir needs the same permissions the database folder needs. , That did the trick. Once again a quick very helpfull reply.
Thanks.
, I did try to redit the banner and the old link was there, not the new one. In addition I tried to ad a new banner to an account but it too was not saved.
Since I can see the banners from the aspbanner solution, does that not tell me that the solution is properly connected to the database? The only thing is the solution only appears to be able to read the data and not write or delete it.
The settings for the directory are read write execute and delete so I am not sure what I need to do to get it working again
, Hello,
for an admin..
you view albums for a user.. make a new album... then click manage pictures
for a regular user you log in.. go to user user area.. create an album..then click on manage your albums
, Ok, I was not aware of this domain controller issue as I have never had a customer have their web server set up that way. It is not a common situation under commercial hosting, thats for sure.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;3151 58
seems it was some sort of bug that was corrected in the the 1.1 .NET framework involving no ASPNET account being created. seems there are lots of work arounds involving making new accounts and editing machine config files. I found quite a few google articles as well.
http://www.kbalertz.com/kb_315158.aspx
http://www.15seconds.com/issue/030115.htm
I actually should have said "the framework installed" not "asp.net"
So, in the meantime I am asking John Evans what he thinks about this and I am going to ask you what version of the framework you have installed ? ASP.NET Framework 2.0 is the newest and you definetely should be running at least version 1.1 and probably should upgrade to 2.0.
I do not know why other ASP.NET code you have works ok. Your other code may not be using the odbc driver dll the same way ASPProtect.NET does. There are lots of possible reasons. At the end of the day I think the basic issue here is still a low level configuration/permissions issue and it can be corrected from what I am reading. It just may require a bit of trial and error regarding local and domain accounts and editing the machine config files... etc etc
, I'm using Groups and would like to assign all new users to a particular group. How is this done? cwilliams38298.5087384259, Is there a way to protect other virtual sites on the server that are not under the default web site considering people may have different websites running off one server? I get the following error:

, When a user 1st signs up a proper case function is run on certain fields.
This is only once on user signup and never done in the admin area.
It's goal is to keep things entered in Proper Case,
so if someone enters "chris williams" it becomes "Chris Williams"
It's not perfect but it helps a lot to keep the data clean and more consistent. Since it only happens during registration those values can be changed later by the admin or the user if someone wants to.
The function is only applied to the fields that it makes sense to apply it to....
In your case adding a drop down menu means you want exactly what is in your drop down to appear so you wouldn't want it happening.
That being said, it is really easy to remove this situation from any field it is happening to during registration.
So edit "users/add_new_account.asp" with a text editor
find
CmdAddUser.Fields("Company_Name") = PCase(Company_Name)
and change it to
CmdAddUser.Fields("Company_Name") = Company_Name
That is all that is needed to made the change
cwilliams38421.5069328704, Thanks Chris.
Your solution worked!
, I believe I'm having trouble with Domain masking in that it appears to affect the ASP Photo Gallery login screen.
My address is forwarded and masked by my domain "company" (in this case: Godaddy.com). It is forwarded to a Win2000 Server running at my static home IP.
From outside of my network, the website appears to work fine...even the default.asp page works to the point of the login page. After entering a login and password - you hit the login button and the page simply reloads only with all of the header and footer information removed.
I found that by eliminating the domain masking feature at the domain company, the problem gets eliminated and the entrie site works fine.
Has anyone else run into this problem? I'm guessing it's the way the domain name is held in the browser cache but I'm not sure how to resolve it so that the ASPPhotoGallery scripts and pointers work correctly.

epeterson38365.6397569444, The links to view that info are on the main users screen of the admin area.
Down below...
They wont show up unless you have that stuff enabled in the settings screen as well.
,
I have a quick question...when a user signs up I have a drop down menu for Company name and they have a choice of branch selections. Everything works fine but when the info is saved in the database there is some sort of conversion to lower-case...?
Original drop list selection:
Winston Salem, NC - (XXX/XXX) - original
In the database (access), some letters are lowercased now...why? anything to do with the period, , or - ?
Winston Salem, Nc - (xxx/xxx) - what is saved
, 1) Does everything, i.e. every user, every category, every product, etc., get stored in just one single database, or are there multiple databases at work and are linked to one another? I am asking because there is only one table in the DB, and it is the "Users" table. So I am presuming that there must be other databases that are linked to the DB. Is this correct?
2) Are user-level security permissions utilized in the sample Access DB that is shipped with the software? I am asking because we cannot seem to remove the "temp" password no matter what we try, and this is the only reason I can think of.
, now, even though it should work with two slashes or not... here is an updated file that will clear that issue up.
You can try it but I think you have other issues like I said above.
just replace this file in the "scripts" folder
2005-12-16_141245_populate_config_variables_inc.zip , humm,
thats a new one.. something is very wrong.
Please show me screenshots of exactly what happens and what you see. It does not make any sense so I need more info or I least need it described in more detail., Christopher
I have gone back to your original files and uploaded them to another server folder and instead of using a DSN I have tried this with a DSN less connection and changed the database to MS Access 2002.
This has corrected the problem.
I will check this out again using the DSN with access 2002 to see if this was the problem. It may be something to do with an older format of database on this particular server.
I will let you know what I find.
Thanks for your quick reply.
, I am using v7 with other software written in ASP.NET. When I include the the "checkfor" and include file, I'm receiving a compliation error.
Here is the include I have on the .aspx file:

, you do not run "check_user_inc.asp" by itself
Pages you protect include that file at the top.. when they someone goes to a protected page if not logged in a user then sees a login prompt..
after loggin in they see that same page as normal
its an automated process..
now, that being said if you really want to you a specify a page to be redirected to after the 1st login when you edit a users info. You can also redirect anyone anywhere like using a simple ASP redirect statement in your code.
Personally I feel that redirecting people all over the place is poor site design. ASP is all about dynamic code and ASPProtect is all about dynamically tailoring pages to the current logged in users... so why redirect people all over the place.. it justs complicates things because you still need to password protect the places you send them to.... which means twice the work and twice the confusion.
Also, here is a Version 6 thread about redirecting manually that still applies to version 7.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo17-1.htm
, how you connecting... lets see the connection string...
could be permissions related too.. if they are not set correctly
(always give them to the folder, never just the mdb file)
Some of this might help...

you may want to download some of the different versions of the access database from the support area and try connecting to them as you may have older odbc drivers on the server
You may also want to try to get ASPTest from our website working before you go any further
, its that server, it's way underpowered when it comes to running dynamic code and databases.. and that other app is probably stealing all the leftover odbc resources..... did you try doing the import on another machine running ASP? Thats the way to go.. I am afraid I won't be much help at the moment.. I am battling with a crashed system and a lot of lost data, One problem that is appearing is that in the admin section, in the users.aspx page, only one user is showing up when there are in fact 9 users. Also, when I click the edit user or email icon, the page does not go to the edit screen, it remains on the same page.
Also, I’ve been trying to modify the code to adapt it for our application -- by removing fields that we do not need such as address, city, state, phone, but I am having trouble getting visual studio to compile. It could be due to the fact that the rest of the project is in C#. Or it could be due to some other factor in ASP Protect.
, (User Search & Contact Mod) for ASPProtect Version 7.x
This will allow an individual user to search for other users as well as email or call them.
Notes: This is a down and dirty mod. The users page from the admin area was used as a starting point. I then edited it up real quick to be used as a user search. The way it is it shows the user email as a regular email link. If you want to set it up so emailing is done from the application and emails are not actually shown you will have to do some extra work. If you don't want phone numbers shown you will have to remove that column which is not very difficult.

Directions:
Back up your existing ASPProtect installation.
copy "search.asp" into your "users" folder
2006-03-10_143253_User_Search_Contact_Mod.zip
Direct your users there. They will have to be logged in to view the page.
WARNING: This has not been extensively tested for SQL Injection attacks.
I think it is perfectly fine the way it is by looking it over quickly, but use it at your own risk.
, thats actually just the xml parser component barfing out on you.. it can't handle the load of being called so much on that server
you might want to try some of the other methods of calling banners, This is a great article for newbies..
Hints & Tips when working with ASP
http://www.powerasp.com/content/hintstips/common_sense.asp
cwilliams38436.5949768519, SQL server hotel ehh ? Humm that sounds bad whatever that is ?
Is that a real term or just something you named it cause they have like a zillion people using that SQL server? I have never heard of that name ?, Actually this was rather easy to fix. Once you restrict the permissions on the folder, open up IIS admin. Goto the selected folder, and right click/properties. Once there you modify directory listing and add defauly.asp to documents. This will provide an automatic load with you enter in the unmask route.
, Yes worked fine
thanks
, http://gibsoncity.info/guestbook/default.asp
Reports 65-messages, however after the first 10 are displayed and you click on the More Messages button, I get the Page cannot be found error.
, I have run into the same problem with streaming pdfs to the browser
using the stream_download.asp example, but only when selecting the
option to open the file directly into the browser (after it's streamed
back) as opposed to saving it and then opening it (which works fine in
Firefox and IE). Then I ran across this Microsoft support article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q2 97822
It got me thinking that maybe a header needs to be included in
stream_download.asp that tells the browser to specifically cache the
file. Adding this suddenly got everything working
Response.CacheControl = "Public"
right after this line in the code
Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"
My asp is limited, but this seems to work at least for pdf
documents. Can someone confirm this? The other question I
have is if this is a solution, should the CacheControl be set to public
or private. Not sure on what the implications are.
Firefox by the way seems to open or save and open the file without
this, so you are right that the implementation between the browsers is
certainly different.

, Can you be more specific on the javascript I should look for? Can it be combined with ASPBanner?, lmao ... ya that has never happend to me before....
, I am having severe trouble with the SQL database connection for ASPlisting (generic version).
I have used all of the suggested connection strings but still get error messages such as:
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]Specified SQL server not found.
I have set up the tables in the database, although the database existed already with many other tables in it as it costs me per database per month so one has to suffice with many tables in it.
I use SQL a fair amount on my site but have not suffered any probs like this yet.
Any advise or help would be useful.
, Thanks Chris, its just an example connection string in the datacon_inc.asp file
you have the edit it to make sense for you..
the readme.txt file with the sql directions tells you this if you use that script
------------------------------------------------------
Examples of using DSN-LESS connections.
The "SERVER" and "Data Source" settings are either the Network Name for the SQL Server or the IP Address.
For local servers you can also use an IP of "127.0.0.1"
GalleryConnectionString = "Driver={SQL Server};UID=aspphotogalleryuser;password=temp;DATABASE=aspph otogallery;SERVER=127.0.0.1"
or
GalleryConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=127.0.0.1;Initial Catalog=aspphotogallery;User Id=aspphotogalleryuser;Password=temp;"

cwilliams38325.8980324074, I had a question about user registration and how it works, mainly because I am having a problem.
When a user registers, with the email verification setting, I am assuming that there is supposed to be a new record created in the USERS table in the database. What could cause this not to happen?
Actually, in testing further I found that with the setting at Auto, Manual, or email, the record is not added to the table. And, if I am logged in as admin, the Add User button does not do anything.
I can however edit and delete user records...
Hmmm, adding a Category yields the same thing. And loggin in as a non-admin user still displays some of the menu items for admin, but then gives a page can not be found error if you click on one (ie, approve).
This looks like a db issue to me, I will have to try this with access and on a test server...
Any thoughts?
- Jason
cwilliams38303.8507291667, like I said... you would have to modify the code
(and really I dont think it is possible, how could it be when images uploaded are of all shapes and sizes)
How are pictures of various shapes and size going to resized to a fixed width and height without distortion on either a horizontal or vertical level ? Uness the image uploaded matches the fixed thumbnail ratio you have set there is going to be distortion.
There is no component that is going to make it any easier. You are already using an image resizing component.
I give you two options the way the code ships.
fixed width and height for thumbnails
or
fixed width / dynamic height for thumbnails
The only other possible option would be
fixed height / dynamic width for thumbnails
and that you would have to code on your own because that option is not there
The last thing I will say is this. Sorry, but I do not support custimizations to the code. It's just not easy to explain. Its a lot of code work. Its a lot of time.
, yes, there is upgrade pricing
http://www.aspprotect.com/purchase_v7_upgrade_pricing.asp
and upgrade instructions here in the forums
if you install it in the same directory structure you wont have to make any changes to the pages in your site you have already protected.. because the code to protect a page will be the same
now, anytime you upgrade an application like this there is going to be a lot of work involved especially when there have been so many changes
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo173-1.htm
whether or not you upgrade is up to you
Like I said you can make version 6 work with CDOSYS and a remote email server. You just need to do some research on CDOSYS code and spend the time needed to make the code use it. I however am not going to spend time detailing all of that when I created a new version that does it.
, My guess it they are runnign some sort of ad blocking software like norton ad blocking. Something on the client side blocking ads or anything with the word ad in it.
I would investigate that.,
