Hi there,
Just bought ASPProtect 7.0 last week and just got around to installing it. I've gotten through the installation and am now trying to test the (Forgot Password) functionality.
I get the following error when I type in the e-mail (or in some cases the username) and Post the form.
Error was [11004] Valid name, no data record of requested type
I know that the add user functionality is pointing to the correct database (I see the additional rows via SQL Enterprise Manager) and that the e-mail address I am looking for is in the SQL database.
Any ideas? Any other information you need?

, I'm using Aspimage and SQL. Photos are 2464 x 1632 px, tried the upload and import directory methods, same results: thumbnails ok, full images 0 bytes.

here is a screenshot that shows how to set datareader and datawriter permissions on an aspbanner database using "SQL Enterprise Manager"
In this example we are making sure the aspbanneruser has those permissions on the aspbanner table in the database

This is only once on user signup and never done in the admin area.
It's goal is to keep things entered in Proper Case,
so if someone enters "chris williams" it becomes "Chris Williams"
It's not perfect but it helps a lot to keep the data clean and more consistent. Since it only happens during registration those values can be changed later by the admin or the user if someone wants to.
The function is only applied to the fields that it makes sense to apply it to....
In your case adding a drop down menu means you want exactly what is in your drop down to appear so you wouldn't want it happening.
That being said, it is really easy to remove this situation from any field it is happening to during registration.
So edit "users/add_new_account.asp" with a text editor
find
CmdAddUser.Fields("Company_Name") = PCase(Company_Name)
and change it to
CmdAddUser.Fields("Company_Name") = Company_Name

What method of displaying the banners are you using. Perhaps try some of the other ones.

- What kind of encryption do you use with version 7?
- If I purchase version 7 and use it on my site with a new SQL database then migrate the old records from version 6 so I can by-pass the issue with my home-grown Base 64 encryption, do you forsee other issues with the upgrade?
, The redirection feature isn't working as I exected.
If I clear a user's redirection_URL, they can navigate to any protected page on my website as expected.
However, if I set the user's redirection_URL to a protected page, they cannot login. More specifically, their browser just keeps displaying the login form while the browser's progress bar just increments ad infinitum.
If I set the user's redirection_URL to a NON-protected page, the user is directed to that non-protected page, but if they then try to navigate to a protected page, they are redirected back to the redirection_URL.
Is this the way the redirection feature is supposed to work?
My application requires that a user is directed to a protected page and from there, they can navigate to any page that they are allowed to go to.
What can I do? , It probably is. You would have to look at the paypal documentation for IPN and see what needs to be changed in the form code.
You can get all that info from PayPal's website.
There are tons of variables and options you can use with all of their code.
They have detailed PDF files full of information on all of them.

I am asking because there is only one table in the DB, and it is the "Users" table. So I am presuming that there must be other databases that are linked to the DB. Is this correct?
2) Are user-level security permissions utilized in the sample Access DB that is shipped with the software? I am asking because we cannot seem to remove the "temp" password no matter what we try, and this is the only reason I can think of. , UPDATE..

I spent about 20 more hours this week on the new version of ASP Photo Gallery Pro.. I have another 40 or more to put into it as I have a lot I want to do.
I think it will be ready within the next three weeks. I know a lot of you have been waiting for something.

Well, i have tryed with the ASPImage enabled and disabled, with the same results. I have used gifs and jpgs in the tests.
I have made some different test. Some with uploading the picture over an excisting picture and some as the first picture. Same results.
Everytime, it´s the 2nd thumbnail that won´t show itself, but the large picture will show, if you press the thumbnail.
I have tryed to look in the code (view_ad.asp), but as far as i can see, everything seems just fine ?!
I know, it wasn´t much help i could give you, but i think i have tryed all the possibilities.

I am going to look into some more in the meantime.cwilliams38341.7166782407, OK, well, that error is pretty self explanatory really. There isn't anything else it could mean.
What you showed me in that screen shot all looked correct, but still permissions to that file just can't be correct. The paths are correct. The path to the file looks correct. The ASPNET (ASP.NET) account looks correct.
I would try settings permissions directly on that XML file. Perhaps child permissions did not go through the way you intended. (the advanced tab must be used for that) If that doesn't work try giving ASPNET and Everyone full permissions on the file directly.
Possibly check the paths in the web.config file just for the heck of it.
Last case scenario, you can edit that XML file directly instead of using the screens in the application. Of course if that file does not have correct permission chances are other things like log files will give you issues as well.
That is all I can think of right now. , i've got a client who has handed me a 151 character banner URL, and i see that the database is designed to take 150 characters. i took the obvious step of just increasing the size of that text field in the database, but i still get this error when i try to enter the URL in the proper form field:

, yes, usernames and passwords are both case sensitive. It increases security. , The links to view that info are on the main users screen of the admin area.

it might help me to better understand and possibly think about new features for new versions in the future., I just finished implementing the V7 product on our site and someone made mention that on the profile form where you are asked all your personal and user information there are 2 fields for passwords. The first field uses masking to hide the password as you type it, where the second shows it in clear text.
Now we know that the only people able to see the password are the user and the administrator, but it is playing mind games with my users as they think there is a problem with the application. I am not a programmer (however, learning ASP slowly now!) and am not sure if you did this on purpose or if it is a bug?
If it was done on purpose, can you advise how I can make the confirm password field masked as well to eliminate the unfounded questions!

As I leave I want to give you some impressions here. While the system is low-cost, the 99 dollar version is missing a few pieces that I think would bring the value to 99. It is one thing to talk about the speed/performance, but to a degree that's hard to measure, and to anyone with web advertising on their site, performance will always run second to potential site income.
It definitely needs a user interface and registration for advertisers, and it definitely needs a single variables file for changing the hundreds of variables for which there is no control. I had to search on my own just to change the look and feel.
Lack of multi-zone support is a serious drawback. I would submit that anyone with a serious website needs it, and will gladly pay you 139 over 99 for just that one feature.
Take them or leave them, they are just suggestions. , I assumed when it said "expected path" that it understand that was the default and unless I wanted it in a different directory I could leave that blank. I'm checking on it now., The webpage header for CJWSoft states "Web Development for Win NT/2000 servers" - a little dated cause it works just fine on 2003 too, right? :), I think I've got it to work somewhat. I modified the 2checkout1 & 2 asp file to use and pass Product_id. It now identifies the product correctly. I'm good fo now. Thanks for the info though.

meaning does a user get an email when you send an email from the admin users screen ?
if emails are not sending it could very well be the setting you have chosen for emails in the settings.
the best thing to do is keep trying to send an email there and try different emails settings until you get something that works... even when I do installs for people I often have to try a lot of various things before I get emails to send.. like picking different components and trying different things for the email server address because what they tell me is often wrong
also, sometimes emails get sent but depending on where they go they may get deleted as spam.. aol, hotmail, msn, and yahoo are famous for that , Your customer should set up a special page that you send banner clicks to. That page is the page that should record the ip and whatever other info needed.
I suppose you could make a page on your end that records that info and finally redirects them to the intended url as well.
All using simple asp. It's really not that dificult to do, but it is a loit easier if you do it this way and keep it seperate from the banner system.
Here is some interesting information not totally related to answering your question.
The banner system does not track IPs on individual clicks because if it did.. 100 clicks on a paricular banner in one day would result in 100 rows in the stats database instead of just 1 row. That may not seem like a lot, but imagine 30 banners all doing the same thing mulipled by 30 days. Your talking 90000 rows in the database instead of 900. It all comes down to what ASPBanner was designed for which is performance and low resource use.
Some banner systems out there even keep track of individual IP's per banner display. Try to imagine how much that effects performance and how much extra space is used in the database for stats. It's crazy and also the reason that the more little features a banner system offers the slower and slower it begins to run.
I am sure I lose sales all the time because I offer less features, but the truth is I know those features will eventually defeat the purpose of why I created this banner system in the 1st place and that i just not something I want to do.

 , Flash files cannot track clicks unless you edit the original flash file to link to the aspbanner system redirect URL.. feeding it the correct ID of the banner.
When that link is clicked on it will then track the click and redirect the user to the “link url” specified for that banner.
The system actually generates the necessary ASPBanner URL for you. That link is shown on the banner edit screen.(you must save the banner at least once and come back to that screen to see the link though)
Really the best way to show it is with an example as seen below.
Basically the flash banner file "powerasp.swf" highlighted in green needs to be edited to link to the banner redirect url which is highlighted in red.... the banner redirect url will then track the click and ultimately send the user to the Link_URL highligthed in blue.
All banners systems work this way when it comes to flash files.
It’s the nature of flash and the web browser,
The flash source code must be edited to link to the redirect url in the ASPBanner system. There is no possible way any banner system can track a flash click unless the flash file links to the banner system 1st.... because that click is handled by Flash and the web browser.
In some cases if you do have the original source file for the flash banner then you are out of luck as far as tracking clicks goes.
On a side note... if you create flash banners the way this article says you can actually feed a .swf flash file a link for it to click to. Instead of it being hardcoded.

cdonts has kinds died out and as of windows 2000 basically got replaces by cdosys , I have found the alternate databases and they do not work either. I then went back and changed the database path in the asptest page to connect to the 2000 and 2002 test databases and it connected successfully to both of those databases, just as it had successfully connected to the asptest.mdb., FILE includes can not use virtual pathing info
