How do I customize the validation email that is sent to users when they first register?, I am using v7 with other software written in ASP.NET. When I include the the "checkfor" and include file, I'm receiving a compliation error.
Here is the include I have on the .aspx file: <% CHECKFOR = "4" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="../../ASPProtect/check_user_inc.asp"-->
Here is the error:

Has any one used the aspmail function to send emails from within your site? If so what did you use as the AspMail_Host string in the connections database?
thank you , Oh big deal !!... John mentioned some site and you feel like you proved some sort of point. Aren't you special ?
Look, I am telling for the 3rd time you can't do what you are talking about with ASPProtect.NET. Are you braindead cause I really am beginning to think you are and I for one am done trying to be somewhat nice to you ??????
I am also willing to bet you had no idea what viewstate even was until I mentioned it and then you probably went and read up about it so quit trying to pretend like you know what is going on! If you knew what was going on you would not be asking more questions about ASPProtect.NET than any customer in the history of selling the application.
As a matter of fact you should send me like 400.00 just for all my time you have taken up because you are totally frigin clueless !!!!!
I should have cut you off the instant you offered me illegal software from p2p right in a forum post., Hi,
Could you please advise what may be causing this error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x57a4 Thread 0x5474 DBC 0xf03a704 Jet'.
/ASPProtect/check_user_inc.asp, line 292
Funny thing is that if I refesh the page with the above error it gives me the following eror:
/ASPProtect/check_user_inc.asp, line 292
and after few times of refreshing the page it shows me the page I am after.
Is this my promlem or ISP's.
Thank you , humm, I dont know then..
If you want PM me your site info and I will go in and troubleshoot.
Frontpage or frontpage access, either way
and also the site URL , ok... lets forget about all this redirecting business for a minute
when I go to "GP01.asp" directly via your web site I get a big nasty error that says this
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0411'
Name redefined
/protect/config_inc.asp, line 15 Dim Address_Required,CDONTS_Installed,City_Required,Registration _Type,VerifyURL,Log_Off_Page
----^
then when I look at what you did in that file I see why
you have this code which is totally wrong because you cannot include the password protection file twice <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% GROUPACCESS = "*1*" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
it should be <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<% GROUPACCESS = "*1*" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> and that is probably the root of this entire problem.. the redirection was working... but you were sending them to invalid pages with errors
all those pages are wrong... if you dont see the real error above see this http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo11-1.htm
if you look over the aspprotect 7 installation instructions that is the very 1st thing I tell people to do
hopefully this is the info you need to continue and get some work done , Chris,
D'oh! How completely obvious!
I got it now. (In Step 4, by the way, you need to click on the web site, not the directory. The directory has its own Properties menu, which is competely different than the Properties menu for the web site.)
Thanks for the fast response!
Robert
, I have been told it does as I got about 5 people or so who upgraded but I have not used SQL 2005 yet. I'll order a copy., Just an update,,,
the permission were all correct.... i left it and tried from my pc at work and it works fine... so i dont know what hahhpened.... thansk for your quick response

Sydney, Australia ,
I was told by my ISP to use localhost and it should work and it does not. It does not require authentication to send e-mails.
Any other ideas?
Thanks , After taking another look at this and trying your suggestions without success, it appears that in Windows 2003 server it is nearly impossible to remove the READ ONLY attribute from the _database folder. I'm wonder if this could the cause?
Thanks , ok, glad it is working, Hi,
I wanted to see if you had any suggestions for converting from Access to SQL sever database. I attempted this earlier today performing the following steps.
1) Create SQL Tables using Enterprise Manager / SQL Scripts 2) Use DTS to move all of the existing table data to the sql tables. 3) Update dataconn_inc.asp to use SQL and the required connection string.
When these steps were complete I was able to login to ASPProtect as an admin and search / find both groups and users. However, any attempt to edit or create users resulted in a "the page ... had a problem ... " type problem. It seems that I can read from the db fine but and getting errors writing to the tables. The user id that is being used to connect to the db is the [dbo].
Any additional hints for this procedure?
Thanks
Darrell , like I mentioned are you by chance running something like Norton Antivirus Script Blocking ?? That can cause timeouts and all sorts of problems with ASP as can other software like it. , Hi,
The source code comes with it. They are the.vb files.
I don't give out any project files for reasons stated in the article below.
Please read this in full if you want to edit the application in Visual Studio.NET
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo85-1.htm , ((TITLE EDITED BY ADMIN))
it would be nice if there was an option for login abuse, where a login account would be flagged if it logged in from x number of different IPs over a period of time. I know many have dynamic IPs, but there's got to be a balance between legitimate logins and logins that are 'shared' for the sake of saving money (I sell subscriptions), in the end costing me.
Maybe searching the first two number groups in the IP (example, 209.168.*.*), and if finding more than an admin specified number of logins per week from IPs with different first two groups, the record would be flagged or locked...
, Chris,
I have had a couple of users log out of the system as they are supposed to, move to another computer and not be allowed to login because of "they are currently logged in using another IP address" when in fact they logged off properly. Is there anything that they should be doing differently?
Thanks,
Jess , I do not think it it anything to do with the Application.
You most likely have some sort of ad blocking software that is doing it.
It is seeing the word "banner" or "ad" and blocking the images in your browser.
I doubt it is anything built into xp doing it. XP with SP2 has built in pop-up blockers but no ad blockers like that really. It is norton ad blocker or something of that nature. , I have just started to move my sites to a new dedicated Windows 2003 box. I have parent paths enabled, SSI turned on but I still can't get ../ to work with server side includes. Everything I read online says that I need to turn on parent paths but again, they are already turned on.
The hosting company where the server is located can't tell me anything, they just say that that is the way it is with Windows 2003. I don't buy it!
Can anyone tell me anything on this issue to help enable the ../ for serverside includes? , sure, there are reasons AOL would block the email.. it might think it is spam or it might not like the fact that fact that a cdonts generated email has no MX records because it can not..
for more on MX records read my CDOSYS article http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/sending_email_cdosys.asp
as far as the emails not being sent because notifications are off. I was not aware of that and will try to look into it.. Version 6 is no longer worked on but if I can find the time I will check that out
, Just installed sofware everything works fine except I see no way to upload any photos. There is no reference or link to allow an upload on any of the asp pages (I have surfed them all). I am sure it is something simple, but I am not aware. I am using SQL2000., I just upgraded from 6.0 to 7.0 primarily because we were limited in the choices of email systems we could use to send an email validation message.
Previously, with 6.0, we were using CDONTS to send an email validation message to new registrants. Unfortunately, AOL email addressee's were not receiving the vaildation email from us. I received a reply to another post I made on this forum that the problem was due to the fact that aCDONTS generated email has no MX record and AOL blocks non-MX record containing emails.
Well, I upgraded to 7.0, switched to CDOSYS (Using SMTP Virtual Server) with SMTP Authentication and it appears that AOL is still blocking the validation email.
Any suggestions, comments?
, where is your site ? I'll taka a look , I'll try to help when I get back tues night,, see the contact page for info on where I am http://www.cjwsoft.com/contact/default.asp?Subject=CJWSoft+G eneral+Inquiry , No, because ASPProtect.NET is licensed per and only runs in One website (one iis application)
That error however probably has more to do with parent paths being disabled on the server., I was able to get it all figured out. Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it. I ended up copying the database with the password to the directory and used the user/password connection code and it works great. I believe it was related to that but I cannot be sure. Thanks again! , yeah.. I cant say for sure.. as I have never really tried to get it working in xp pro.
Last time I actually used cdonts locally was on a 2000 box
I would do a google search on xp pro, smtp service, and cdonts and let us know what you find out.
All of our apps can use free 3rd part emailing components as well so maybe try some of those. Course you need a valid email server to connect to.
, Yup, thats the problem I was having. I can get it to work if I don't do through the dl stream, but otherwise it prompts to save or open it instead of loading it in the browser.
I did read the change on making the content public instead of private so I think that will work for know...
, Actually this was rather easy to fix. Once you restrict the permissions on the folder, open up IIS admin. Goto the selected folder, and right click/properties. Once there you modify directory listing and add defauly.asp to documents. This will provide an automatic load with you enter in the unmask route. , Can ASPClassifieds display the ads by city?
I have a web directory that lists websites and companies by city. Is it possible to have specific ads shown to the user depending on what city they click on? For example, only ads in New York would be shown to users that have already clicked on that city in my directory.
thanks, , Is there any update to this ?, When a new user adds themselves to the db thru the registration page, no user id is assigned in the User_id field. I can't access the page on-line due to an user_id related error on the page. I must use access itself and add the user id. After that, everything works as expected.
What have I done? , Password Retrieval System
I'm trying to setup the email functionality and have the following settings:
Email_Component : CDOSYS (Using Remote Server)
Mail Remote Server: the smtp server in my Outlook account
Use SMTP Authentication: Checked
SMTPUsername: the email address in my Outlook account
SMTPPassword: the password in my Outlook account
Email Notification: sales@tradersreports.com
But I get this when I send the request for via missing password info.
CDO.Message.1 error '80040213'
The transport failed to connect to the server.
/aspprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp, line 174
This is running on Windows 2000 server.
Any ideas?
Warren , Is the user ID case sensetive? In my case I use the user email as the login ID., I've had an error I saw described here, couldn't figure out what it
was. My SQL statement was being cut off, though a bit differently
because it was created on multiple lines with the amper-underscore
string construction design; my statement had no UPDATE, only started
with the junk screen characters of the encrypted password.
So, from what you said above about the vbNullChar, Chris, it looks like
I've hit the same problem, maybe from an old version (downloaded March
22, 2005). Could I request a copy of the updated logic?
Thanks a lot.
, I'm getting this error when I try to login:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0131'
Disallowed Parent Path
/gallery/users/login.asp, line 19
The Include file '..dataconn_inc.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory. , Chris,
I've given the IUSR account modify access for the aspprotect folder.
In the ODBC manager module on the webserver I've taken out the aspprotect access driver option.
The dataconn_inc.asp line reads as
ConnectionString = "DBQ=D:\missourirealtor.org\members\aspprotect\data\database \ASPProtect_access2002.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp"
Now this should make it DNS-less correct? with the permissions set properly?
I've also taken out the password on the access database.
The original database of users I had was an access database from a different program called spooky login. I exported them into a tab delimited file and changed the column headings to match those in aspprotect exactly. Actually access would not let me import them in the databases without them being exact.
I imported that information directly using access's import options. I tried the import/export manager in aspprotect but kept timing out as well.
, While I originally thought the login form on a non-protected page idea may be similar in setup to how our Classic ASP version of ASPProtect works I could not have been more incorrect. Truth is I forgot that it works a lot differently.
ASP.NET Web forms are meant to post to themselves and there is thing called the viewstate. (google it.. its a hidden variable the server creates in the form code that is required when the form posts back to itself.. and hold all sorts of information the server uses) Doing what you are asking about means disabling the viewstate and that can have big consequences and break certain things.
Basically you cant just put a form on a non-protected page and post to a protected page if the viewstate is enabled. Disabling it can break certain web controls like data grids .etc etc.. and can also have an effect on how the session is managed at the site and sometimes disabling it is not possible depending on what is going on cause you need it.
I am still doing research on the whole thing, but it looks to me like doing that is going to have a tradeoff of some sort.
That does not mean this isn't possible somehow. I am still researching and I am also going to see what John Evans thinks.
I told you .NET was complicated.
As for your other question that is something you have to sort out on your own by editing the code and recompiling it based on your custom project needs. It is not something I can help you with. , This is the error that I am getting when I try to add a banner...
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e09'
EXECUTE permission denied on object 'sp_ASPBanner_GetZones', database
'aspbanner', owner 'dbo'.
/aspbanner/appinfo_inc.asp, line 67
also, when i go to the banners tab i see this in the banner list...
(3 Banners Found)
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'
Line 1: Incorrect syntax near '='.
/aspbanner/banners.asp, line 306
