download the free version...

check out this tutorial...
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo169-1.htm

If your application can post to the page and provide all the form variables needed to log in it may work out for you..

You'll have to try it out... all the form variables needed are in that login form example.

Basically you'd be posting to a protected (.asp) page..
and providing the following for the most part.. how your app creates it post data is on your end...

<input type="hidden" name="Status" value="Checkem">
<input type="text" name="Username" value="Yourusername">
<input type="Password" name="Password" value="YourPassword">

As an alternate scenario...

Now, by default the "check_user_inc.asp" file is looking for posted form data... for security reasons it is not looking for querystring info..

If you change this bit of code in that file

from

Username = Replace(Request.Form("Username"),"'","''")
Password = Request.Form("Password")

to

Username = Replace(Request("Username"),"'","''")
Password = Request("Password")

It will then grab either form or querystring data...

Meaning you wouldn't necessary have to create a true post to the page with form data. You could just access the page via a querysting like so

http://www.mysite.com/somepage.asp?Status=Checkem&Userna me=Yourusername&Password=Yourpassword

Of course that introduces security risks as the username and password would be passed in plain text over the net

Another option is...
You can also make a copy of the "check_user_inc.asp" page called whatever with those modifications just to use in pages you need your little application to post to... thus reducing the security concerns a a bit as the rest of yoru site could still have its pages protected under the normal scenario.

I hope this answers your question... I havent really ever tried any of this but that is how I think it would work... , well, like I said.. I am leaving in about 5 minutes for the wedding.

If you put this up on a live server that I can connect to I will look at it tommoro for you. I have told you everything I could possibly tell you so I dont think your going to figure it out based on the things you have told me so far.

Only other thing I can think of is make sure your not running anything goofy on that server 2003 box. Norton Antivirus script blocking... various ad blockers.. anti spyware applications... etc etc... They can cause problems as well. ,

All this being said installing the desktop version of SQL may be a little tricky as it may complain that your SA account needs a strict password.

The solution is to run the SQL Desktop setup.exe with some parameters specifying a password for the SA account.

So you go to the command prompt or make a shortcut to the setup file and run something like this

setup.exe SAPWD="YourPassword"

minus the quotes...

I got that info from this article and it worked fine
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Databases/Q_21036508.html

The other thing to remember is it might take a reboot to actually see the SQL server icon running in the taskbar. You may also need to go into the administrative services and enable the "SQLSERVERAGENT" as well as set its startup type to "automatic"

And a reboot here and there..

Whammo... your in business...

, Ok, have contacted the web hosts. Thank you for your help so far

Andy
,

What am i supposed to do now... i do have another member server that is not a domain controller-

However, i have like 5 websites running on this domain controller already. I have thought about this before how its a HUGE security risk but it will take too long to configure everything on the other computer :(

,

When I enter www.vickerylightning.com/aspgallery/dataconn_inc.asp on the screen it says "Not a valid bookmark"

as far as that goes I have no idea.. I have never seen that message before but you are not suppose to run that page by itself regardless.. it is an include file not meant to run on its own

,

Hi Chris

I've just recently purchased ASPBanner and have been testing out serving multiple Tradedoubler code using the IFRAME method. I have four types of banner on the same page refreshing every 15 seconds. (this will change on the live site)

I've been leaving the IE page up for x hours and coming back to find between 1-3 of the banners has stopped and in place is an "internal error".

BannerZone=3&Refresh=15|40|800a0046|Permission_denied 80

I thought it may have been the SQL permissions from one of your other messages so I gave the banner user the DataReader and DataWriter permissions.

Its still happening and around the same time in the logs theres a couple of file not found errors.

BannerZone=2&Refresh=15|23|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159

BannerZone=4&Refresh=15|25|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159

BannerZone=1&Refresh=15|25|800a0035|File_not_found 80 - 80.65.240.159

Any ideas? I'm hoping its not the server as there is currently only 2 sites on it and this is pretty much the only traffic.

Thanks

Colin

,

I have an asp page that includes other asp pages via an include.  for example:

snippet code: file name: collaboration.asp

 <table bgcolor="#bed1e4" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="10" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0">
    <tr>
    <td>
     <!--#include file="../../../filetransfer/directory_listing2.asp" -->
    <BR><BR>
     <!--#include file="../../../filetransfer/upload.asp" -->
    </td></tr>
   </table>

I can add the code below to collaboration.asp and it seems to work,but I cant seem to figure out how to protect the other files such as upload.asp at the same time. -- can you help?  - Note: as soon as I add the code below (and adjust the path) - I cant bring up the page.

This is the protection code I am using.

<!--#INCLUDE FILE="../../../../aspprotect/check_user_inc.asp"-->

I installed the ASPProtect.NET project no problem.  I am using VS.NET 2003 on Windows XP SP2 (and fully patched).  I am able to build the project successfully, however I cannot debug the project.  I get an error "Unable to start debugging on the web server. The project is not configured to be debugged."  The web app runs fine just browsing to it.

I know this is an isolated problem particular to this project.  I have MANY other .NET projects that I can debug without any problems.  I have tried going into IIS and turn on the debugging for server-side script debugging and making sure my IIS application setting were configured correctly.

Can anyone shed any light on this at all?  Christopher, is there any reason I should not be able to debug this?  (i.e. the aspprotectlicense.dll)

Thanks,

K

Hello -

Believe it or not I finally can access the photogallery. You were right Chris regarding the unzipping of the files.

Now onto the next challenge! I have set up three categories and proceeded to create a test album. I uploaded a couple of pictures (yeah that worked!!!) but the album does not show up on the default.asp page under the category.

Please advise -
Rhona (rookie)

, recently i've been getting a lot of unspecified errors.  i've been running aspbanner for about a year and a half now.  i don't know what would have caused all these problems.  also, for some reason it won't maintain my log-in, ever time i got from page to page or try to submit a form it asks me log-in again.

Jason S.
cwilliams38389.8791550926, Interesting.. Yes, the SMTP service is turned on.  This is my boogle.  If they are both installed, then it should in theory work.  But for some reason, it is being subborn and not working., I'm in the process of incorporating the ASP Gallery functionality within my current site design.

To begin this process I'm taking each page and I'm wrapping the ASP Gallery code with my site design [essentially I'm allocating this application the center of the page].  When I pull in the default.asp into the site the contents of this page make the entire page too wide.  I can't see where ASP Gallery assigns itself a width.

I'm working on this as a side project so I'm not terribly far along since I need to change all of the font assignments within the system to style assignments and it's a slow go.

Any insight would be a great help, there's a lot of re-write in what I'm doing and i don't want to affect functionality.

if you want to see the page and what happens -- http://www.iphotosite.com/galleryapp/default.asp

Don't go to www.iphotosite.com because I havent moved it to its own location yet.

,

Not really.  The way I thought activity would work is that I would always see the last 50 users.  Not sure what controls that and why I wasn't seeing it, but it sounds like it is an IIS thing and since my site is not all that busy, it will not show the users if some process has reset the numbers.  Not a big deal.

As for the log files, I think it is related to my other question regarding the export directory.  I have the ISP looking into things at thier end to see if they are doing anything that could cause the directories to disappear.

Thanks,

Dave

, Thanks Chris.

Yes i never actually considered that they should log in twice.

The site uses two main url and the cookie was being stored for only one of  them. I have fixed the double login issue by making changes to menu to ensure that they are always logging only via the url stored in the cookie.

Thanks for your hep,

Stuart
, Oh, to clarify the above.  We did not change any columns in your [Users] database or any other table.,

While my host says the permissions are now correct....its still trying to download the setup ASP file instead of executing it.

I really need to get this application working asap too.  I noticed the purchasing page said that install came free.....so any help would reaallly be great.

,

Update..

I have support for the ibulc image uploading client working.

http://www.ibulc.com/

There is also an option in asp photo gallery pro to store the images original filename in the description field which is pretty cool.

Ibulc client bulk upload support currently only works with the pure vbscript upload or the safileup component. (I may support the other two components asp photo gallery can use but it really depends on time) The pure vbscript upload code I am using for this is much better than the code I was using before so that method should be offer decent performance for anyone though using a component is always better.

I still have to add the ibulc feature to the users side. It currently all only works for an admin user.

The whole process is very cool. You install the ibulc client on you computer. It's tiny, and free for uploading up to 10 (100kb) pictures at once. You have to by a domain license from them to do more than 10. Anyway.. it lets you select multiple pictures off your hard drive and it then uploads them all at once with individual progress info for each picture. Its really cool and since it really treats each picture as an individual upload it doesn't hammer the server with one big upload at once.

I also made it so you can start the picture uploads at any picture number.
So if you already have pictures in an album you can add more without losing what is already there.

This was one of the main features of the new version and now that it is working hopefully I can tie up any loose ends and get the new version out soon.

cwilliams38327.5488541667,

Login failed for user 'aspgallery'.

Okay, shouldn't this be trying to use aspgalleryuser?

Lance

cwilliams38325.8848263889,

That carrot doesn't really exist in the file, so I'm not sure.

I did download and place the ASPTEST file in www.drsweisberg.com/asptest and when I try to load the 2 pages it fails to load.  I have another site on the same server and I uploaded the same exact set of files and the asp pages load.  www.klarman.com/asptest

http://www.drsweisberg.com/asptest/server_info.asp

http://www.klarman.com/asptest/server_info.asp

This is how I set the connection:

ConnectionString = "DBQ=D:\clients\rklarman\klarman\asptest\_database\asptest.m db;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp"

ConnectionString = "DBQ=D:\clients\rklarman\drsweisberg\asptest\_database\aspte st.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp"

,

Have you thought about language file so users dont have to go into the code to put it in their language??

, question 2 is answered best here

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=319&KW =paypal

Ok, got it.  Didn't know if there was something already set up for this that I was missing.

>>I should also mention that the paypals scenarios used in ASPProtect can not be tested using PayPal's sandbox.

Ok.  Thanks.

>>Also test using two real PayPal accounts and on a live setup. (You'll allowed two paypal accounts) then you can log into the other and refund the transctions and of course it makes sense to use low amount like 1 cent and what not.

Yeah, been messing around with that.  Got everything going except the return page which I can't do until the site is live.

>>Also, I'd love to see what you came up with with the integration. I have been working on it here as well and took it in a different direction as I plan to sell directions for it as an add-on for aspprotect.

Ok.  Will email you with a username and password for access to the site once it's live.

Sounds like a great add-on for ASPProtect!

Thanks!
Michelle

,

again.. more custom code work would be required to handle it

No luck...this is the message

The redirection at 1st login feature is supposed to work like I explain in this thread.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo385-1.htm

Though what you just said is a bit confusing it sounds like you have some sort of browser problem and it is doing the redirect every single time. ?

I would suggest reseting all your browser settings to normal and making sure cookies are enabled because forms based authentication uses session variables and cookies must be enabled for session variables to work correctly. If not something like this could happen as the redirection at 1st login would happen over and over every time.

So try it on other computers and try with firefox as well as IE. Many people go nuts with their browser settings and way too much stuff blocked which can cuse all sorts of issues. Also some script blocking and firewall software can cause problems so disable all of that when testing.

You may also have created some sort of endless loop. (I really need to know way more information on what you did to know that for sure)

You may also want to consider doing your redirects manually meaning you protect a a page and right after the protection you use regular ASP redirect statements to redirect the user whevever you like based on their session info which is available to easily check immediatly after someone gets through the authentication.

I still stand behind my statements that redirection is not good site design. You really really need to understand and plan your ASP pages as well as have a very good understanding of the session and how all of that works if you use redirection with a password authentication scenario. You should never be redirecting someone to an ".htm" pages except during testing because you wont be able to stop users who are not supposed to go there from going there directly.

,

First pass through, I don't see anything changed in the groups section of the check_user asp file. the logoff asp wasn't touched.

I noticed the demo online (on this site) only has pages protected with access levels; you say it works fine with groups also?

,

Hello cwilliams, and thank you for the fast reply.

Well, i have tryed with the ASPImage enabled and disabled, with the same results. I have used gifs and jpgs in the tests.
I have made some different test. Some with uploading the picture over an excisting picture and some as the first picture. Same results.
Everytime, itīs the 2nd thumbnail that wonīt show itself, but the large picture will show, if you press the thumbnail.

I have tryed to look in the code (view_ad.asp), but as far as i can see, everything seems just fine ?!

I know, it wasnīt much help i could give you, but i think i have tryed all the possibilities.

Best regards, Erling

,

ok.. Chris.. I am now kicking myself in the butt.  In the setting section, I had to redirect certain urls and directories to the right spot.  I forgot that I renamed the root folder.

Thank you, thus far for your continued help.  It is greatly appreciate.

,

No can do.  In both cases there is an icon that says "Not uploaded".  I click in it and nothing happens.  There is no link to upload.  Am I missing something?

By the way, I appreciate and am impressed with your rapid response. Thanks.

Hi Chris,

I have a quick question...when a user signs up I have a drop down menu for Company name and they have a choice of branch selections. Everything works fine but when the info is saved in the database there is some sort of conversion to lower-case...?

Example:

Original drop list selection:

Winston Salem, NC - (XXX/XXX) - original

In the database (access), some letters are lowercased now...why? anything to do with the period, , or - ?

Winston Salem, Nc - (xxx/xxx) - what is saved

Thanks

,
Ow.

I haven't moved (or messed with) any critical files within the directory at all, just placed them as a job lot into a subdirectory call aspprotect.

All I did was put all the files directly into a directory rather than into the root because some of the subdirectories had the same name as some already in use and would therefore have been overwritten.

I'll go back and have another look in the cold light of day (its too late tonight UK time).

Thanks anyway.
,

This first one may be an obvious one, but is it only .asp files that I can protect as in no HTML files.

Can the program be set to protect my whole https directory contents (though the answer to the last question may have bearing here - there are html files as well as .asp in there) as in http://secure.mydomain.com

Thanks in advance

, Thanks Chris,

ahhh ok.. I was going to wait till morning to answer this one..

glad ya figured it out

, Say, I just thought of one last thing.

Your not by any chance running something like norton antivirus with norton script blocker on that server are you ?

It can cause issues when ASP uses the filesystem object and cause never ending page hangs like you are having.

There are other apps as well that can cause it to hang.

http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2180

And ASPProtect does use the filesystem object., I have run into the same problem with streaming pdfs to the browser using the stream_download.asp example, but only when selecting the option to open the file directly into the browser (after it's streamed back) as opposed to saving it and then opening it (which works fine in Firefox and IE).  Then I ran across this Microsoft support article

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q2 97822

It got me thinking that maybe a header needs to be included in stream_download.asp that tells the browser to specifically cache the file. Adding this suddenly got everything working

Response.CacheControl = "Public"

right after this line in the code

Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"

My asp is limited, but this seems to work at least for pdf documents.  Can someone confirm this?  The other question I have is if this is a solution, should the CacheControl be set to public or private.  Not sure on what the implications are.

Firefox by the way seems to open or save and open the file without this, so you are right that the implementation between the browsers is certainly different.

Tom

,

ok, well if you want to test on your own....  in the ipn.asp file for the subscription folder you will see this area of code used for testing

' Un-comment this section and give this directory proper permissions to enable logging to a text file
' Very helpful for troubleshooting
'   Set ObjMyFile = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
'   LogFileName = ("paypal.txt")
'   'Open Text File.. If doesn't exist create it and append to it .. If exists just append to it
'   Set WriteMyData = ObjMyFile.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("paypal.txt"),8,True)
'   RowHeaderString =  ""
'   RowHeaderString =  RowHeaderString & OrderID & vbTab
'   RowHeaderString =  RowHeaderString & Custom & vbTab
'   RowHeaderString =  RowHeaderString & User_ID & vbTab
'   RowHeaderString =  RowHeaderString & subscr_id & vbTab
'   RowHeaderString =  RowHeaderString & txn_type & vbTab
'   RowHeaderString =  RowHeaderString & subscr_date & vbTab
'   RowHeaderString =  RowHeaderString & Access_level & vbTab
'   RowHeaderString =  RowHeaderString & Groups
'   WriteMyData.WriteLine(RowHeaderString)
'   WriteMyData.Close

now that folder will need modify permissions for the text file to be written to but this is a good way to test if the ipn.asp page ever gets hit by paypal.

ITS REAL IMPORTANT THAT THE TEST FILE CAN BE WRITTEN TO OR DOING THIS WILL JUST CAUSE MORE ISSUES

To ensure the text file can be written to and permissions are correct for that folder you can make a new .asp in there and run this to see if the text file writing works

   Set ObjMyFile = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
   LogFileName = ("paypal.txt")
   'Open Text File.. If doesn't exist create it and append to it .. If exists just append to it
   Set WriteMyData = ObjMyFile.OpenTextFile(Server.MapPath("paypal.txt"),8,True)
   WriteMyData.WriteLine("the file was written to")
   WriteMyData.Close

Now, you can even change the location of the text file to place that does have permissions if you like.

This is what I would do if I was in there... then I would make some test payments using 1 cent and another paypal account (your allowed 2)

and see what happens

it is always possible the subscription code may have a bug in it. The last time I tested I only tested the single payment folder which worked perfectly. If I have time in the next couple days I am going to test the subscription stuff again. If there is something wrong I can cure it quickly.

The two routines share a lot of code in common.

cwilliams38421.6488773148,

Hi,

I wanted to see if you had any suggestions for converting from Access to SQL sever database. I attempted this earlier today performing the following steps.

1) Create SQL Tables using Enterprise Manager / SQL Scripts
2) Use DTS to move all of the existing table data to the sql tables.
3) Update dataconn_inc.asp to use SQL and the required connection string.

When these steps were complete I was able to login to ASPProtect as an admin and search / find both groups and users. However, any attempt to edit or create users resulted in a "the page ... had a problem ... " type problem. It seems that I can read from the db fine but and getting errors writing to the tables. The user id that is being used to connect to the db is the [dbo].

Any additional hints for this procedure?

Thanks

Darrell

,

ASPProtect and PayPal are fully automated and ready to go.
Accounts will automatically get activated after payment.

We actually do not tell you to put nothing in the PayPal system for the IPN URL. Something has to be there or PayPal will not let you enable IPN. We actually tell you in you PayPal settings to turn on IPN and make up an IPN url because something has to go there. (I think we suggested making a blank asp page on you're site to send it to) It really doesn't matter where you send that but it might as well be a valid page on your site to avoid any 404 errors in your logs when a non ASPProtect payment comes in.

You see, we dont set that IPN url set in the PayPal system because each ASPProtect signup script directory (single payment and subcription) uses it own IPN url and that all gets set on the fly by the aspprotect system. There is a way to overide the defaul IPN url is what I am saying.

Also:
A  lot of people already have something there and we didn't want the ASPProtect system to interfere with things they already had going on.
