I am using VS 2005, when i go to new project in visual basic folder asp.net web application is not there..
Can i add it somehow?
, Hello Chris:
Let me run some more test if it's working on your end it should be on mine? I have made some custom updates to the code but no in that area.
Thanks,
-Ricardo
,
I was actually able to do similar thing by allowing our dedicated search engine to access the site unchallanged.
<%
If Trim(Left(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_USER_AGENT"),11)) = "MYPASSWORD" Then
SearchFlag = True
End If
If SearchFlag <> True Then
If Session("Access_Level") > CHECKFOR or Session("Access_Level") = "" Then
%>
<!--#include virtual="/Auth/check_user_Code.asp" -->
<head>
<title>My Title</title>
</head>
<body>
My Protected stuff here
</body>
</html>
For this to work, the search engine must pass the PW to the web site. I just was not sure how to do the same thing with IPs. I will play with the code and see what happens. If it works, I will post it here to help others, if this is OK with forum rules.
Thanks,
Mo
, Thought that was already done....
Back to the drawing board...
, I guess i am not being clear as to what i am trying to do. As far as the event thing... lets hold off on that for now. It seems Chris has answered my question and i am on my own for that one...
As far as the log in goes: I went to that site you mentioned;www.CafePress.com to see if they had what i was talking about. and they do. Notice on the bottom of the page it says "sign in to your account"
I want that option on my home page where users can sign in to go to their account. It will either take them to a page where they can update their info, or it will take them to a protected page. Pretty much instead of posting a link on the site to say... click here to go to members.aspx and have it return an "access denied" the user can enter their info from the main page and be automatically re-directed to that members.aspx page.
I know how the viewstate works and i also know what that returnURL thing does..pretty self-explanitory.
Hopefully that makes things easier. I just want a user to log in from the homepage and be redirected to either a protected page or their account page...
(as does that cafepress website)
, It sounds like permissions... to the database folder specifically
they are not correct
It could also be that your odbc drivers are very new and you are not using a new enough version of the access Database. I recommened using the 2002-2003 verison of MSACCESS
Now.. if using a SQL Server Database permissions to certain tables are handled in enterpise manager
cwilliams38303.5892708333, Humm, I can see all those pages loading just fine at both domains so you got me pretty confused at this point as you just said they didnt load.
regardless, the data connection tests are failing with both of them.
so let me ask you again how are you setting permissions on the database folders?
, I finally spoke with someone who knew what I was asking for and they set the rights and all is fine.
Thanks for your help. Wish all business' had customer support like here
, Not really sure how to do this.... i think you know what i am looking to do.. is there anyway you can show me or create that solution for me? It would prob. take you minutes as its been taking me hours
, Chris,
Well some good news
! This from my hosting company this morning...

I'd say that the vendor is right so I've submitted a work order to
create the *****.com/aspnetprotect directory as an application.
If there are any other directories for which this needs to be done,
please let us know. This particular task always needs to be performed

Thanks for your help thus far

cwilliams38455.5654513889, I have added two users in different group access but none of them can login to the pages

, I have ASP Photogallery running and it seems to be great, but I would like to allow uploads using DUNDAS the problem is I can't seem to find it on the linked website. I did find an EXE install in another place but I am running on a Shared Host (Godaddy) and can't run an executable on it. Where can I find Dundas and is there a way to install it without running an EXE??, Hello- I am trying to install the ASPPROTECT product and tried to read all the docs but still am getting the following error:
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x1980 Thread 0x1458 DBC 0x223c374 Jet'.
I understand about the physical path for the DSN-less connection and followed the example given. I got in touch with tech support for the host of my site and the give me the following as a physical path:
c:\sites\Single20\laptv1\database
Some observations:
1.- The database directory is outside the root dir but I think I am accounting for it with the path
2.- The permissions are ok
Any ideas?
Thanks
FP
, I really do not know to tell you the truth. I'll do some research.
The script only allows .jpg, .jpeg, and .gif extensions.
If someone uploads a file called... "filename.vbs.jpeg" with bad vbscript in it I seriously doubt anything can happen because of it because of the extension.
But I really do not know.
It has never happened to any sites I have or know of.
cwilliams38447.0491435185, Thanks Chris, I would highly suggest setting up a DSN-LESS connection.
That system dsn is most likely the source of your trouble It is probably that or permissions are still not correct.
I can't tell you how many people have had trouble with system dsn's and finally set up a dsn-less connection and everything then worked as it should.
The location of your database is fine as long as permissions are truly set correctly like I mentioned.
Also, be sure you are setting the database type correctly in the dataconn_inc.asp file. That can cause problems as well as some people have been known to delete that line.

, I am using cdont to send email. what do i have to do send email to other display my full name instead of email address. In other word I want to see first name last name in their email client instead of email address.
thanks for your help
, Thank you for the response to my question. In the mean time if I can figure any workaround I will post it here.
, To be honest I just can't remember what happens. It has been a long time since I did a real live test of that. I know it seemed like a pretty smooth process to me. Right now I can not test it out as I am on a road trip with my motorcycle and I am sending this email from my PDA.
I would ask Dave at this website.
http://www.davephoenix.com/
Or via this username in the forums
PhoenixUK
He can tell you what happens as he has been using the IPN stuff for about a month now.
Perhaps another user could chime in here as well and let us know. I know there are a lot of people using the IPN stuff.
, Your customer should set up a special page that you send banner clicks to. That page is the page that should record the ip and whatever other info needed.
I suppose you could make a page on your end that records that info and finally redirects them to the intended url as well.
All using simple asp. It's really not that dificult to do, but it is a loit easier if you do it this way and keep it seperate from the banner system.
Here is some interesting information not totally related to answering your question.
The banner system does not track IPs on individual clicks because if it did.. 100 clicks on a paricular banner in one day would result in 100 rows in the stats database instead of just 1 row. That may not seem like a lot, but imagine 30 banners all doing the same thing mulipled by 30 days. Your talking 90000 rows in the database instead of 900. It all comes down to what ASPBanner was designed for which is performance and low resource use.
Some banner systems out there even keep track of individual IP's per banner display. Try to imagine how much that effects performance and how much extra space is used in the database for stats. It's crazy and also the reason that the more little features a banner system offers the slower and slower it begins to run.
I am sure I lose sales all the time because I offer less features, but the truth is I know those features will eventually defeat the purpose of why I created this banner system in the 1st place and that i just not something I want to do.
The banner systems with every little feature are just not well suited to very busy sites no matter how well they are designed.cwilliams38324.8386689815, It seems that if a user attempts to access a page that is not in their access level or they do not have the group permission they are redirected to the login page. Re entering their ID generates an eror and they cannot go back to the pages they are alowed to access. Is there a way for them to simply be blocked and return to the previous page or to a defined page so they can continue using the site?
thankyou
, Not really. The way I thought activity would work is that I would always see the last 50 users. Not sure what controls that and why I wasn't seeing it, but it sounds like it is an IIS thing and since my site is not all that busy, it will not show the users if some process has reset the numbers. Not a big deal.
As for the log files, I think it is related to my other question regarding the export directory. I have the ISP looking into things at thier end to see if they are doing anything that could cause the directories to disappear.
Thanks,
Dave
, a. Sorry for the missunderstanding
b . Im running XP pro and done what was explained
c. The iis stops responding - Till I make iisrest
thanks
Ran
, Is there somthing I need to change in the settings to get the hit count to update?, Well at least now the import/export link shows up now! lol, Christopher
Found this but I dont really know what to do with it or even if its the right thing.

, lmao ... ya that has never happend to me before....
, My site is composed of mostly asp based pages with some javascripting thrown in, but a fair amount is strictly html and javascripting. Currently I am using the javascript banner method throughout the site.
You have mentioned in the past that several other methods might be a better option for asp pages.
Examples would be: XML Parser Method or asphttp method.
I was wondering if it is possible to use the javascript method on my non-asp pages and maybe the asphttp method on the asp pages and all in the same Zone?
Or, is it possible to use the asphttp method on all pages, whether they are asp or not?
I'm just trying to figure out what is the most efficient way to use the banner system.
Or maybe should I just keep it all javascript method?
Any helpful feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks.

, Hi,
I am investigating the possibility of purchasing above script having spent some hours trying to integrate various free banner rotators into my Invision portal.
What attracts me to your script is that it has 6 ways to call banners. I am an inexperienced webmaster with only a smatterring of knowledge about ASP. Will ASP Banner be able to integrate with my portal?
Many thanks

, it might also be a good idea for you to try a simple text file writing example like this on your server and see if it hangs as well
http://www.devasp.com/samples/writetofile.asp
for troubleshooting sake
this is sounding more and more like the filesystem object is blocked or disabled on your server
, maybe this is the issue...
do you realize that the descriptive name you give a group is not always going to be the same ID in the database ? The two are not related.
Perhaps what you named Group 1 is really group ID 3
You can tell for sure by generating protection code for group 1 and see what ID it tells you to use..
You also need to remember that you are testing this with different users and it is really easy to get confused so you need specifically log off using the log off page to ensure session info from the previous login doesn't show up and cause confusion when you log in with a different user... etc etc
in addition to logging off that way you may also want clear the session and application info via the code at the bottom of my article
http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/displaying-session-and-a pplication-variables.asp
and do that in between any user you log in as
, The webpage header for CJWSoft states "Web Development for Win NT/2000 servers" - a little dated cause it works just fine on 2003 too, right? :), It's just a generic error that means one of 1000 different things is wrong.. there is a lot of information on in in these forums as well as links to articles about it.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=27& PN=1
usually it means permissions to the database folder are incorrect or the physical path you are specifying for your dsn-less connection is invalid..
everything has to be perfect
cwilliams38370.5271296296, I think you may be using old code where that was an issue... I am going to PM you the latest version..
to be safe upgrade all the ASP files except the dataconn_inc.asp files and your config_inc.asp files
"be real careful not to lose your current encryption keys in the "config_inc.asp" file or you will be in real trouble
You can use your existing database
, Christopher,
Thanks for the reply. I think I've found my problem, but can't test until later in the evening as it is on a live site.

, It turns out that I never enabled ASP.net on the site. After doing that the skins work much better. I'll have to poke around and see what other functionality is now available.
Thanks!
Al
, I have been able to successfully edit some text colors, but there seems to be one page that wont change the text color. Inside the users/ folder, the login.asp page, i cant seem to change the text color from ffffff to 000000 so it can be read on my background color. Every page in the script is correct but this one.
Thanks.
, the txt file is only lke 624 kb...so I'm not sure, Hello:
When using the Mass Mail feature and selecting the Users to ‘Active’ and the Access Level I want to send to the system will still send e-mails to the ‘Inactive’ users from the same Access Level.
In other words it sends to everyone in the Access Level regardless if you choose “Active” only.
Any ideas to correct?
Thanks,
-Ricardo
