did you fix it because I see all the pictures just fine ?
http://mcintoshcounty.org/real_estate/view_item.asp?Ad_ID=1
, I'll give it a shot loading it on the laptop and publishing it, if it doesn't work I'll let you know and you can take a look at it tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for all the help tonight...
Good luck pouring that concrete!
,
ok thanks, Regarding hosting companies..
Now.. obviously if you are hosting on someone elses server you may not be able to set permissions like this.
Ultimately, if you are hosting somewhere and ASP and Database connectivity is part of your hosting plan. It is the hosting company's responsibility to set these permissions for you when asked or to give you a special interface to do so on your own. If they are not helping you do this then maybe it is time to get a hosting company that is serious about your ASP Hosting Needs.
Also... JUST TO BE PERFECTLY CLEAR
The permissions we are talking about cannot be set via FTP or Frontpage access to your web site. They must be set like shown above or via a special interface meant to set the permissions correctly. For all you people out there messing with the permissions you see in FTP and Frontpage.. you are wasting your time and possibly creating problems in your web.
All ASP scripts that communicate with an Access Database, Upload Pictures, Modify Text files.... are going to need these permissions set in some way or another. We have no control over that fact.
cwilliams38360.69125, Ok I used the following for the sql string.. is this correct?
SELECT COUNT(Album_ID) AS Alb_Count FROM " & tbl_label_albums & " WHERE (User_ID = " & CmdListUsers("User_ID") & " AND Album_Active = '-1'" & ")"
, If you are having trouble setting up a simple data connection ASPTest is a great learning tool.
You can download it from the www.CJWSoft.com website near the bottom. cwilliams38087.5457060185, I assume you mean 500 pixels wide
no.. because you cant reliably tell a pictures image width without an image resizing component to look it up.. asp can not do things like that on its own
serverobjects has a free component called "imagesize" that can do it as well but you need access to the server to install the component
http://www.serverobjects.com/products.htm
so if you cant do that with regular asp code you definetly can not stop the upload proces because the picture is too wide..
heck, that would be nearly imposible to do regardless.. even with the best 3rd party components at your disposal
even with an image resizing component you would have to allow the upload.. then check the pixel width.. then delete it.. tell the user what is going on...etc etc .. all a very complicated process
, I'lll try to look at it this weekend. I have to leave the office now.
There must be something wrong with the last build of the code. I dont think that upload export file thing is a feature too many people use or I would have heard of this sooner.
For now just upload you export files to the export folder manually using ftp or frontpage explorer and you can accomplish the same thing.
, Personally, I think that is something you should work into your existing site code or something you should handle on your own.
It's basic site maintenance issues.. and something every webmaster must deal with on an individual basis. If you are going to upload a new version of some large file of course you should go disable wherever people are dloading it from and then wait/re upload/turn things back on.. etc etc
It is not going to be a feature of ASPProtect and I don't see why it should be. If you want to have some sort of global site is temporaily down thing you should have a common server side include on all your pages right after the password protection include file. In that include file you could easily stop site access with a response.end and also show a message.
Or you should disable a file download page manually on a file to file basis.
Really, big busy sites that have their sh*t together use versions of files for a reason. Every new upload is a slightly new version revision and has a slightly different file name They do this partially to eliminate the problem your talking about and also because that is the way it should be done. Nothing gets uploaded over itself ever. Even if there is a mistake in a file they upload a new revision and document it in the revision/changes file. And of course they dont show users a link to a new file revisions until it is uploaded.
, You really should just look at the documentation that came with the application. It tells you everything you need to know.
it is in the docs folder in html format.. it is also linked to from the aspclassifieds website
http://www.aspclassifieds.com/demo/docs/
,
ok "ace45",
I just spent a bunch of time in your setup using SQL server and I didnt have a single issue. It all seems to be working perfectly to me.
I got into the system using the "get_me_in.asp" page like the instructions say to to.. then I deleted those two users you had there.
I created a new user called "admin".. then I edited that user to make him an admin.
I have logged off and back on as that user a bunch of times without issue.
admin
test
is the user info..
I just didnt see any problems whatsoever???
I also took the liberty of going into the settings page and setting all that up for you as well so all the url paths are right now and emailing from the application works.
I am going to wait an hour or so and try to log in a few more times but it honestly seems to be running perfectly to me. , Chris,
Thanks for the reply. It all makes sense.
I have gone with your first option but here is the problem:
I have moved the password protected page from the detail page with the
querystring to the straight .asp page. This obviously fixes the
previous error.
Once someone has logged in they are then presented with a list of links
to the previously protected pricelist detail pages (example -
"somepage.asp?ID=3""). They are then able to access the pricelists.
The problem is that if someone copies the pricelist URL they are then
able to pass it on to someone else and bypass the password protection.
If I also password protect the pricelist pages then someone will have to login twice.
Is there some code that i can add that will simply check that they have
logged in otherwise kick them back out to the protected .asp page.
All code in your documentation tends to open the login page regardless of whether you have previously logged in.
Thanks,
Stuart
, I've got an ecommerce module that's running on it that uses access for the db. Connecting into that thing is slow as well, but I figured that's because of the complications and volume it handles.
So as far as importing on a faster machine and copying it over to the server...what suggestions do you have?
, One of my users is looking to do mass updates (multiple records). He wants to be able to update the "Expiration Date" for a group of users who work for the same company. , Christopher
Thanks for a speedy reply. This is what I have used most recently...
ListingsConnectionString = "DSN=longreach;UID=lradmin;PWD=skipper;"
DatabaseType = "SQL"
but that throws an error of:
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
I have private messaged you my SQL server IP address. I am a fast learner with ASP (I think!) but some things really catch me out!
, Hi Chris,
I tried changing using Notepad in the config_inc.asp
from:
If Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = "" Then
Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_SOFTWARE")
End If
To
Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = "iis/6"
and the albums still do not show up under the categories
Rhona (rookie)
, Humm, I can see all those pages loading just fine at both domains so you got me pretty confused at this point as you just said they didnt load.
regardless, the data connection tests are failing with both of them.
so let me ask you again how are you setting permissions on the database folders?
, Thanks for that.
I have tried InStr("*2*",>"0") in the query design window but it does not return any members.
I have orded a Access Bible to help me in furture
, While I originally thought the login form on a non-protected page idea may be similar in setup to how our Classic ASP version of ASPProtect works I could not have been more incorrect. Truth is I forgot that it works a lot differently.
ASP.NET Web forms are meant to post to themselves and there is thing called the viewstate. (google it.. its a hidden variable the server creates in the form code that is required when the form posts back to itself.. and hold all sorts of information the server uses) Doing what you are asking about means disabling the viewstate and that can have big consequences and break certain things.
Basically you cant just put a form on a non-protected page and post to a protected page if the viewstate is enabled. Disabling it can break certain web controls like data grids .etc etc.. and can also have an effect on how the session is managed at the site and sometimes disabling it is not possible depending on what is going on cause you need it.
I am still doing research on the whole thing, but it looks to me like doing that is going to have a tradeoff of some sort.
That does not mean this isn't possible somehow. I am still researching and I am also going to see what John Evans thinks.
I told you .NET was complicated.
As for your other question that is something you have to sort out on your own by editing the code and recompiling it based on your custom project needs. It is not something I can help you with. , import/export feature WARNING !!
I just want to warn everyone that the built in import/export feature can be a little dangerous.
The reason being is when you import users they get new "Users_ID"s in the database.
The "User_ID" field is an autonumber field and that is why and there is nothing you can do about it.
So, if you are using a user's current "User_ID" to keep track up something important NEVER export the users and re-import them. Because their "User_ID" will change and you will be in trouble.
The PayPal signup features of ASPProtect actually use the "User_ID" like this and that is the main reason this warning is here.
now, that being said
If you are importing new users into ASPProtect
or
simply exporting existing users to another system
then this is nothing to worry about.
Basically, the moral of this story is dont think of the built in Import/Export feature as backup system because it is not. It is not a substistute for backing up your database.
It is a just a tool that can come in handy for various things.
cwilliams38425.0597685185, What am i supposed to do now... i do have another member server that is not a domain controller-
However, i have like 5 websites running on this domain controller already. I have thought about this before how its a HUGE security risk but it will take too long to configure everything on the other computer :(
, not anything built into the app... it would be done with client side javascript if you wanted to look into it... my client side javascript skills are ziltch, I've been working on it for quite some time.... doesn't seem to be working as of yet :(, Thanks Chris.
Yes i never actually considered that they should log in twice.
The site uses two main url and the cookie was being stored for only one
of them. I have fixed the double login issue by making changes to
menu to ensure that they are always logging only via the url stored in
the cookie.
Thanks for your hep,
Stuart
, thanks thats what i was guessing.
, Hi. Chris. I'm not a programmer of any sorts, so I am not comfortable plugging in the changes you suggested and not knowing for sure if it will "break something somewhere else". If the programmer tells me "you have been warned", its a pretty good sign its a no win situation. If you don't know, theres no way i can know.
I saw in the code where you mentioned the changes. I don't see where it mentions the last name is required either, but the bottom line is it does require it it the actual new user form.
Thanks anyway Chris. I'll figure something out.

,
I'm having another problem-hopefully it's a quick fix.
it tries to go to a page: default.aspx
Server Error in '/' Application.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested Url: /default.aspx
When i log in as admin from the aspprotectadmin/default.aspx that works fine...
where should the user be sent when they log in? Am i supposed to specify that or is it automatic? Why isnt it working for me? I dont believe i changed any settings that correspond to that either
, one more problem I see...
I think your login box on the main page is missing the hidden form variable
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo169-1.htm, We have a site that currently runs ASPProtect and would like to install a second instance of it. The reason is that the current one is set up to manually authorize new users (it is for applying discounts to the Trade), but we want a second instance that will allow new users to register freely (this is for personalization).
Has anyone set up such a goofy scenario themselves? Is this even possible?
Thank you!
, Then you should have current enough code.
If you PM me the encryption key you are using and the plain text password for this user I can see if I can reproduce the error and come up with a fix.
I believe you found one of the rare examples where the encryption creates a strange character that messes up things. Sometimes those characters are not even visable.
Changing the password should solve the problem in the meantime., sorry for delay responding,
I got bombarded with support inquiries while I was gone and I missed this one since I been home.
Does the server_info.asp page I provide say that aspupload is indeed installed. Let's start there. , i was only kidding!!
, Flash Code Generator
Until I have time to make one I suggest using the one on the banmanpro support site as it is pretty nice.
http://www.banmanpro.com/support/flashgenerator.asp
cwilliams38291.6146875, I did not set that variable in the IPN code that aspprotect uses. It is optional.
You will want to download PayPal's IPN documentation and see what the variable is called and then add it to the IPN form code if you want to use it.
it will be a hidden form variable (one line of code added to) paypal2.asp, on that particular page check the session variables manually (not using the include)
that way you are keeping the login access checking to an absolute minimum, elminating any form processing from the login procedure, and keeping the upload script happy
like so
<%
If Not InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then
' do whatever
End If
%>
you could response.write something followed by a response.end
or you might even want to response.redirect them to some other page that using the "check_user_inc.asp" where they can log in
And if you are going to be using a free asp upload script use this one as it is probably the best pure code upload solution available as far as performance goes.
http://www.freeaspupload.net
, When using this code:
<!------- ASPBanner Ad code ------------->
<script language="JavaScript"> var code = '';
var now = new Date();
var nIndex = now.getTime();
document.write('<s' + 'cript src=" http://www.poconocommuter.com/aspbanner/injectbanner.asp?Ban nerZone=6&nocache=' + nIndex + '">');
document.write('</' + 's' + 'cript>');
</script>
<script language="JavaScript">document.write(jscode);</script& gt;
<!--------- End ASPBanner Ad code --------------->
I receive an error that jscode is undefined. The banner will not display.
Any ideas how to fix this?
, Ok, for starters what is the real error ? Please read this.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo11-1.htm
2nd I always recommend using CDOSYS before any other email component. All servers have it running by default and ASPProtect supports some a html editor if you use that component. I would give that a try as well. It's the best emailing option.
, no, there is not not.
If you wanted to to that you would have to add some code to check their album count in the database and not allow them to make a new album if they were at the limit.
cwilliams38433.0233680556, I am also getting the "Unspecified Error" message. I just transferred my site to IIS 5.0 and I get that error now. However it does not happen everytime. I can click on a page and it opens fine and then I hit refresh in the browser and I get the "Unspecified Error" message. What could be causing this?
, Sounds cool.. post info when you get it sorted out
thx
hopefully someday I'll get the new version finished.. I just never seem to have time. Lately ASPProtect takes up all my time and now aspclassifieds seems to be in need of a new version more so than asp photo gallery
