Kurt,
There really is no default width in general.
The thing to remember is that the default.asp page includes a lot of different pages.. and some of those pages also include pages.
Now all of this gets wrapped by the header and footer include files so in a sense what you do there can effect everything inside to a certain degree.
Now there are some widths set here and there for different tables and what not on certain pages, but its really the kind of situation where you just have to dig around in the code and experiment until you eventualy find what you are looking for and get the desired result.
I'd love to tell you there is easy way to just set a width, but it is not that simple.
Maybe someday it will be. Just not in the current version.
CJW ,
grrrrrr
As far as the users thing... my fault that was setup wrong in the settings of the admin login page.
but still dont have a solution for what im trying to do ,
trust me, they (serverobjects) do not check processors.. as a matter of fact they haven't answered support emails for about 3 years. All they do is sell those components like hotcakes and take in mad crazy cash. But I will say the stuff does work well and always has. (that guy probably took all the money he made/makes from those components and took off to Jamaica or something sitting on the beach drinking margaritas)
regardless, ASP just cant resize pictures on it's own. It' just not possible. You need a 3rd Party component.
There isn't much to say about the ASP.NET thing.
If your server has ASP.NET installed (meaning you can run aspx pages on your server and the ASP.NET framework is installed) and running you just pick that option in the config file and ASP Photo Gallery will use ASP.NET to make dynamic thumbnails for you.
To run ASP.NET it must be a 2000 or 2003 server. , ummm.. ok.. Then this doesnt make sense. On two out of the three machines I have in house here, the images do not show up. They only show up on the server machine. I am using the constant url on all three machines. www.rfamilystuff.com Does it show up on your?
, The problem was that I did not have
ConnectionString = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}.... in the connection string.
Thank You.
, Yes, you are right. That was the problem. Sorry
Cheers

, I'lll try to look at it this weekend. I have to leave the office now.
There must be something wrong with the last build of the code. I dont think that upload export file thing is a feature too many people use or I would have heard of this sooner.
For now just upload you export files to the export folder manually using ftp or frontpage explorer and you can accomplish the same thing. , Protecting ASP Pages
To protect a page without using the Access_Level or Groups feature simply add this code to the top of that page.
Put this under the <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
This is an example of a File Server Side Include. You could also use a Virtual Server Side Include.
The following URL explains what Server Side Includes are. http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
Now when someone runs that page they will prompted to login. They will not be allowed access to that page until they successfully logged in.
An example of doing this is provided in the "default.asp" file included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code with a text editor to see the working code. It is quite simple.
Protecting ASP Pages Using Access Levels
To protect a page using the Access Level feature simply add this code to the top of that page. You simply specify the Access Level before the include file is called. In this example we are protecting the page with Access Level 4.
Put this under the <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<% CHECKFOR = "4" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
This is an example of a File Server Side Include. You could also use a Virtual Server Side Include.
The following URL explains what Server Side Includes are. http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
Now when someone runs that page they will prompted to login. They will not be allowed access to that page until they successfully logged in as a Level 4 user.
Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code. Again, It is quite simple to follow.
Protecting ASP Pages Using Groups
Please see the code generators in the admin are for the code to do that. cwilliams38403.6864351852, I did not set that variable in the IPN code that aspprotect uses. It is optional.
You will want to download PayPal's IPN documentation and see what the variable is called and then add it to the IPN form code if you want to use it.
it will be a hidden form variable (one line of code added to) paypal2.asp, When a logged in user with specific group rights tries to look at a
page that has different group membership requirements the Login screen
comes up giving them an opportunity to login with different rights to
view the page. If you log in again with your current user name
the same login screen returns with the added words something to the
effect of "Access Denied, you dont have group rights to this page...".
The only way to get back to the previous page is to hit the back button
on the browser (there is not a back button on the denied page).
I would really rather not even present the "login again" screen to a
user but just have a custom page that says "access denied" of my own
design with a back button on it. Is this an option provided for
in ASPProtect currently? I did not see it in the admin section
settings tab. Is there a separate "login again" asp file that is
being used for this
group access deny message that I could alter, or does it always have to
be the login asp file?
Or would this require me modifying the check_user_inc.asp file around
line 356 to change this behavior (I don't want to screw up any other
stuff though...).
Thanks!!
Oh, PS. just a quick check...it looks like if a user is an
"admin" he automatically gets to see all group pages regardless of
which set of group numbers are assigned in his user account...is that
right?
, and when I go to your now.. its very fast again.., Hi,
Sorry, but the way the system works you can not call an individual banner like that. It just not something the system was meant to do.
If you wanted a specific banner to show up at all times you would have to make an individual banner and a zone just for that.
After looking at your site since you have so many banners there I dont know if that is the greatest option for you. It would also put a lot of stress of the Version 7 software because it is not really meant to call so many banners zones at one time on one page.
If you could live with tracking clicks on the home page but not displays I would suggest making banners for the home page in one zone. Then hard coding the banner images into your homepage like you already do but linking to the tracking part of aspbanner instead of where they would usually link to. That way you could at least track clicks and there owuld be no performance issues.
for example.. one of the images might link to http://www.poconocommuter.com/aspbanner/banner_redirect.asp? Banner_ID=4
which would track clicks for you.. and then send then wherever they are supposed to go
, Hello
I have a strange problem with the thumbnails in the ASPClassifieds. If i upload some pictures in an ad, the 2nd picture always shows with an x, as the picture doesn´t exists. But if i click on the 2nd thumbnail, the picture shows okay. I haven´t changed enything from the original code. Does anyone have any idea, where it goes wrong ?
With best regards, Erling Larsen , If you need to know how to enable them on your test server.

, I am trying to protect and ASP page written in Javascript. The first part of the page goes:
<%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT"%> <!--#include file="../Connections/connWINGAP.asp" -->
When I insert the aspprotect code it looks like this:
<%@LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT"%> <!--#INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/GIS/WCGIS/GISProtect/check_user_inc.asp"--> <!--#include file="../Connections/connWINGAP.asp" -->
and I get this error:
Microsoft JScript compilation error '800a03f7'
Unterminated string constant
/GIS/WCGIS/GISProtect/check_user_inc.asp, line 2
I think I understand that your code is written in VBscript and that is why it is not working. If this is the case, how can I switch to VB to execute your stuff then switch back?
Thanks,
Jess , Chris, I'm having problems getting this to work. When I plug in the redirect URL and then try to load the web page, the Flash ad never loads successfully - just its black background in the 468 x 60 space. Here's an example of what I'm seeing:
http://www.innovationtools.com/Articles/ArticleHeadlines.asp
Just keep refreshing the page until the black rectangle appears. And here is the code I've loaded for this flash ad:
<OBJECT classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase=" http://active.macromedia.com/flash2/cabs/swflash.cab#version =4,0,0,0" ID=banner WIDTH="468" HEIGHT="60"> <PARAM NAME=movie VALUE=" http://www.innovationtools.com/aspbanner/aspbanner/banner_re direct.asp?Banner_ID=25"> <PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=high> <PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#000000> <embed src=" http://www.innovationtools.com/aspbanner/aspbanner/images/ba nners/mindmatters_innovation3.swf " quality="high" bgcolor="#3CBDCD" WIDTH="468" HEIGHT="60" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE=" http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Pr od_Version=ShockwaveFlash"> </OBJECT>
What am I doing wrong? By the way, I'm using the standard version of ASPBanner. Not sure of the version, but it dates from about 2002. , humm, yea thats a data connection error.. really not related to the asp code in the application for the most part.
that is low level
If using MSACCESS
I would make sure permissions are set correctly on the database folder (not just the database file itself)
I would make sure your using at least a 2000 version of the database. 2003-2003 format being better..
I would make sure the server has up to date mdac/odbc drivers.. (that is really the server admins responsibility)
As for permissions there are articles in our forums about exactly how they need to be set. Improper permissions can cause a ton of random errors like that.
cwilliams38414.6528240741, This is great FREE SQL Server Web Data Administrator App from Microsoft..
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=C03 9A798-C57A-419E-ACBC-2A332CB7F959&displaylang=en
It is an ASP.NET web application that you install locally on your development server and then use to connect to a SQL database whether remote or local.
It can do nearly everything enterprise manager can do.
I have tested it and it works great for me. cwilliams38325.7453587963, All fixed... I changed the remote server from localhost.omegaphibeta.net or whatever it said there to localhost
I sent a test email to myself and got it no problem
the error you were getting was email component related , one more problem I see...
I think your login box on the main page is missing the hidden form variable
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo169-1.htm, you can edit the look of it but because it is licensed software the links to aspbanner and the aspbanner logo.. etc etc must remain otherwise change it all you like., You would carefully use the built in features of access to import/export data.
The password for our databases is noted in the documentation. It's pretty hard to miss really. You can also see the database password by looking at the connection string info.
different versions may be different but it is usually "temp" minus the quotes , This relates to a part of the new documentation that wasn't ready yet. I just made a thread about it though.
Here you go. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=198& ; ;PN=1&TPN=1 cwilliams38419.5353587963, We have upgraded to IIS 6, but as I recall aspbanner continued to
work fine for at least 3 months after the upgrade. I would like
to reinstall, but I cannot find the zip file.

, Hello,
Unfortuantely I can not help you much regarding the javascript because I am a server side code kinda guy. Client side javascript just isn't my thing. That was free javascript code that I used for that function. I really do not know enough about editing client javascript. Sounds like you might though.
Style 1 is really a relic left over from the standard version. I just left it in in case someone wanted to use it. Like I said because it is javascript making it do more than it does is tricky (at least for me)
Now,, for actually getting description code. The thing to do is check out how that all works in the pic_window.asp file which is what style 2 two uses. Bascially descriptions for an particular album get stored in one text file. We read that test file. Put the lines into an array. Then display the info which gets run through a functions to convert some special characters used when saving back to normal.
I tried to look at your site but it woulnt load for some reason.
cwilliams38420.0809259259, That's exactly what it was.
The site owner couldn't see their own ads because Norton was blocking anything with the word ad in it.
On another note: I changed the word 'ad' to 'listing' and got it to show even with Norton.
, Chris:
I just got done trying it myself and it worked great for me too. I was aware of the security issue, but I'd already planned on using SSL for this particular call, as well as for the secured pages accessed through the normal process, so the bad guys will be kept at bay.
Thanks for the help. , A mod like this would improve tracking by leaps and bounds.
Do you think this addon would be availalbe anytime in the near future? If/when this feature or mod becomes availalbe, it certainly would be ideal if some script was made to import all the log file data. , The company that hosts our business web site has been impossible to deal with in assisting me in getting asp protect to work. Getting the rights set correctly took 6 days and then getting parent paths enabled has been impossible. There last response was simply this:
The includes were changed so that if your server does not support "parent paths" ' and the "../" that you could easily change a few files like this and make the ' includes virtual includes instead of file includes. We didnt make them virtual ' includes by default because depending on where in your site you put the application ' the virtual include path would be different. They are also much different on a local ' development server than they would be on your real server ' ' Here are some examples of what you might change these includes to ' ' If you put the aspprotect folder in the root of your domain at your server ' example: www.mydomain.com/aspprotect ' then you would probably use ' ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/aspprotect/dataconn_inc.asp" ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/aspprotect/config_inc.asp" ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/aspprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp" ' ' Or if you didnt use the aspprotect folder and just put the contents of it in the root ' of your domain ' then you would probably use ' ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/dataconn_inc.asp" ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/config_inc.asp" ' #INCLUDE VIRTUAL="/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp" ' ' It really all depends on what works for your situation ' If you want more information on server side includes read this article at PowerASP ' ' http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
I am assuming that they will not enable parent paths and I need to modify some code. I do not know asp. WHere do I modify the code for a server that will not enable parent paths?
Thanks,
D , Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Even though I have a big disclaimer that the account is totally
worthless without someone paying to activate it, the new IDs keep
coming, about 3 a day.
, Hello,
While there is no option in the admin area / asp code we give you here is what I can tell you.
You have the source code and we also use an open database structure. (MSAccess or MSSQL) So that means you can really run any query you want on the database whether with ASP code or directly in your database. You can even tie other systems and code into the database via OBDC and manipulate data. The sky is the limit.
In MSSQL you can run queries in SQL enterprise manager or query analyzer. Using Access you can run queries in query view.
It's really not that hard if you do some research on SQL Statements and how to use them. You can do some very powerful queries and save yourself a lot of time. , I'm using the groups protect feature on my pages. None of them seem to close the session after clicking 'logoff'. I can tell because if I hit the back button and return to the group-protected page, hit 'refresh', the page refreshes, I'm not asked to log in again.
On the other hand, when I open a page that's protected by an access level and click 'logoff' (uses same logoff asp file to logoff), it seems to work fine - if I go back a page and refresh, it asks me to log in.
Just wondering - is anybody else having problems like this? Maybe I screwed something up in the few adjustments I made a while back. Any idea what it might be? ,
I am having difficulty properly securing pdf's using 7.x
I used the example file and have been able to secure images and word
docs, but the pdf's give users the error "There was an error opening
this document. The file cannot be found."
The kicker -- it works fine on my computer, just not anyone else's. I
put a link up to the same file without any security and that works on
everyone's computer. The word file links and redirects work too. I've
tried my log-in on other computers, then attempting to download the pdf
and that doesn't work.
The client wants a site where users must register before downloading
pdf's. They should be able to view all the pages without registering.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. But I can't complete the site until this issue is resolved.
Help appreciated.
, just FYI -- i added in a new data table into the database. I
havent finished implementing the whole thing across the entire site,
but it wasn't too difficult. Once I have all of the functionality
complete I'll post some details. Some of the changes are the
addition of a new album nav style which combines style 2 and some of
the features of the new data table.
Very easy app to work with guys.
, Good Morning, any suggestions on how to best "fake out the system" -- I would like to try to keep this clean so I can see the real errors?
My thought was to try to just move those .gif files to the directory that it thinks it should be in -- do you have any better suggestions? Or reasons why I really wouldnt want to do that? , If a picture does not show after uploading it is one of the following things.
The upload method chosen is not supported on the server or The physical path specified to the pictures folder is not correct. or The URL to the Pictures folder is not correct. or Permissions to the pictures folder have not been set properly
Here is more information on how permissions are set.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo56-1.htm
Without more information and the settings you have entered and chosen that is all I can offer for now. , humm, did you edit any of the registration code ? this is not something anyone has ever mentioned and the aspprotect 6 code has not been changed in over a year ?
can I see where there is happening ? I may need ftp or frontpage access to the server in order to troubleshoot unless you can provide me with more details here.
thx..
, Still not ready... I have no time to finsih it at the moment..
release date is unknown...
, Hi Chris,
Thanks for the answer. No, I am not using Paypal since these are employees and sales reps. I guess i'm on my own on this one. :)
Thanks Sylvain , I disagree...
It would be 20 hours + of conversion and testing. Maybe more.
Like I said, I converted a version fo ASPBanner once to work with MYSQL. It took forever to change all the code (2 weeks of messing around) and get it working. There were also a lot of issues with null values in the database, ado update code that had to be rewritten, cursor type issues, recordcounts not working, etc etc that had to be sorted out. There was a ton of situations where things seemed to be working but later on I noticed there were minor bugs to deal with. It was a lot of work.
ASP Photo Gallery has a ton of asp pages. It is a much larger app then ASPBanner. If you convert it to work with mysql I highly doubt you could have it running well with less than 20+ hours of work. I wrote the app and it would at least take me that long and there would still be bugs at that point.
If you think you could your not used to my style of coding and don't realize exactly how much stuff needs to be rewritten.
Granted, you could get some of the basics running off mysql in a few hours or less but there is just so much little stuff that would give you trouble. cwilliams38243.9065277778,
