I have added two users in different group access but none of them can login to the pages
, Can I have the logon be in a top frame while having the protected pages displayed in a main frame?
Also, how will it behave if a user moves in between a protected page to a public page and back to the protected page again?,

Let me start again cause I think I know the problem., been working on this for about 5 hours today.. I think I found the problem and it involves a vbNullChar that the encryption process is creating only during login attempts
it then messes up during ASPProtect authentication because it blows up the SQL Statement to the database
like I mentioned before the chances off this happening are slim but possible as two people so far have been able to create the situation
I seem to have the HANNAH password working now using your encrption key

are the paths set correctly for the picture folder ?, It just sits there indefinitely without an error being returned. The only clue I have is that it seems to be connecting to the database when I try to log-in. I know this because I decided to erase the files and start again, but I could not delete the database because it was "in use". After I rebooted to clear that connection and erased the database, then re-did the install, the same condition exists after entering the key on the get_me_in.asp page. you need to manually compare all those field settings with the sql script and make sure they all got set correctly...
you also need to tell me what email/name you ordered the application under... before I will continue this support with you.. at this point I don't know if you purchased the application or if you are using the unsupported lite version
, that's they way it should be done..
the only other thing would have been to test everything with sql before trying to import any data.. and make sure all was fine at that stage
more info on the errors would be helpful.
Id' also carefully visually compare the SQL tables and fields with the SQL scripts and make sure all field types and settings got set correctly.
Also, make sure the user accessign the database has datareader and datawriter permissions of course.

, Ok.. glad you got it working., ASPProtect version 6 does not officially support any sort of redirection or is it a feature.
You can however do redirection after login with some basic ASP if-else statements and ASP redirects. Basically you check the session variables after successful login and send users where based on that info. You of course also need to protect any pages you send users to and make sure any people that aren't supposed to go there do not go there directly and bypass your security.
I highly frown on Redirecting during login (In my opinion it is poor site design and it defeats the purpose of dynamic web pages, there is seldom a good reason to even need to do it if you design your site well) but you can check out this thread which should give you lots of good information.

, 1st: try it with a normal dsn-less connection like we show in the example.. dont use that OLEDB.4.0 connection string.. connecting like that can cause a lot of problems and is not as great as everyone thinks it is and it can sometimes be difficult to get it working when the database has a password set on it
For the sake of troubleshooting just connect like so: (fixing the path of course)

3rd: If the app does not run using the connection string like I say to use then the problem is 100% on their end and is either related to permissions or the fact they are keeping the access database on a network path which is BAD BAD BAD... no quality host that knew what they are doing would set it up that way.. ultimately you don't want to host asp with a place that has a setup like that

If you are using ASPProtect Version 7 it is possible because version 7 supports html emailing. In any other version it would require some custom coding to add html email support. You would have to sort it out by experimenting and editing the emailing code. All the email methods have documentation on the web in some form or another showing how to send html emails.
Also,
sometimes depending on the email component being used and the email client reading the email a link in a text based email will get hyperlinked automatically. For example outlook usually will do that, but it doesn't always in other situations.
Lastly, we have special upgrade pricing should anyone want to upgrade to ASPProtect Version 7. It really has a ton of great features.

You are missing the fact i mentioned it is a DOMAIN CONTROLLER.
I have come across MANY articles ONLINE via GOOGLE that mention if it is a domain controller, for some reason the aspnet account is not there or gets deleted.
IN ITS PLACE GOES THE IIS_WPG ACCOUNT. IS YOUR SOFTWARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS ACCOUNT?

cwilliams38419.533900463, Very weird for sure but I guarantee no code in ASPProtect is deleting that folder. Something else is going on the server and deleting it and I have no idea what it would be.
Maybe try leaving a blank text file in it and see if the folder disappears after a few days., I have been able to successfully edit some text colors, but there seems to be one page that wont change the text color. Inside the users/ folder, the login.asp page, i cant seem to change the text color from ffffff to 000000 so it can be read on my background color. Every page in the script is correct but this one.

, They really have do not have anything to do with each other as far as code and numbering goes, but I really do not fully understand your question or where you are going with this. (the part about the user setup ?)
Groups are more powerful than access levels and are meant to replace them. Access Levels are only there for backward compatibilty with older versions. , If you are developing using Windows XP Pro and running the NTFS file system setting proper permissions on a folder in your website requires that you 1st disable simple file sharing.
To do so open up "my computer". At the top open up "tools/folder options"
Then the "view" tab.
Then at the bottom uncheck "use simple file sharing"
After that that is done... using "my computer" browse to the folder in your web that you need to set permissions on.
Right click on that folder and then choose the "security" tab.
(If simple file sharing is on that tab wont be there)
Give the "Internet Guest Account" Modify Permissions
This will check all the boxes under modify as well.
You can also give permissions to the everyone account and accomplish the same thing.
BTW:
If you are using ASP.NET you need to give permissions to an account called ASPNET. It wont show up in the user list. You'll need to click "add" and then type in "ASPNET"
cwilliams38203.582337963, After understanding how the count works i checked the IP in the db. They are all set to the same IP (my web server) no matter what ip is doing the viewing. This is probably due to my ISA2004 firewall that is posting the ip address of the web server with each log on. So, can you help me with where the code would be to modify so the db does not get updated? I risk the refresh problem, don't think it is an issue with me.

, Hi - I am a recent user of your software. I administer it for the owner. I probably missed something in your forums somewhere - but I'd like to know how to stop the software from sending an "accept registration" e-mail (after they fill out the registration page) from going out so fast - usually within minutes. I'd like to know how to defer the message for 24 hours, more or less, so that our company can go over the registration details and decide whether to allow the person registering to actually have access to our protected website pages. The program is working very well and we are excited about it. So far, no problems (knock on wood!).

Your not by any chance running something like norton antivirus with norton script blocker on that server are you ?
It can cause issues when ASP uses the filesystem object and cause never ending page hangs like you are having.
There are other apps as well that can cause it to hang.

And ASPProtect does use the filesystem object., I have been working on this all night long. I have been reading every possible article. I have created an ODBC connection on the server.. which i have never done before? Still nothing. I looked at the machine.config file... i read about impersonating whatever the hell that is... I am really stressed out. I have the 1.1 framework installed.
I read about dsn and dsn-less connections. Is there another way i can connect to the database? Without using a username and pw maybe?

and did they give you access to a control panel that lets you manage your site ? sometimes that is where you manage those permissions if their interface supports it

, Thanks for the information. We added the name manually instead of using the App_Name variable., no the "expected path" is something that gets generated for you if you have parent paths enabled. to help you fill things in correctly...
basically if parent paths are enabled it shows you what the path should be for each path field on the settings page... if parent paths are disabled there will be nothing to the right of expected path for technical reasons (lack of being able to do a "../../" to figure out the paths more or less)
in that case there is a file called "expected_paths" in the data folder that you can run to tell you the expected path info
