All can say right now is take a break and get away from it for a bit. All your going to do is stress yourself out more if you keep working on it.
There is probably a way to make it work but it may require days of fiddling around and reading articles and trying things and even then you may not get it working AND THEN ITS JUST A BAD IDEA ANYWAY. Like John says you are better off running it on a server that is not a domain controller. , do you have "use picture uploading" checked in the settings ? that is important..
have proper permissions been set on the picture folder ?
are the paths set correctly for the picture folder ?,
The way the application ships there are no password confirmation areas anywhere ? Please be more specific as to what you have done and if any mods are involved ?
If you are talking about one of the MODS please realize they are not supported. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo459-1.htm
Even though they are not supported I look them over pretty closely and I know of no issue like you mentioned so I would suggest re-downloading the MOD. Perhaps you got a corrupt download or file. , Having a quality professionally set up ASP.NET server that is going to support your needs is CRITICAL whether it is yours or someone elses. Them saying they will not set permissions is useless. Quite honestly Network Solutions is a joke when it comes to ASP.NET hosting. They are all about CHEAP MASS HOSTING and that is not where you go when you plan on running complex ASP.NET applications. What good is ASP.NET hosting if you can not permissions set on folders you need it for? A lot of people run ASPProtect.NET and their hosts set permissions for them without issue. We made one folder that they could click on and set all permissions at once easily. If they truly knew anything they would understand that and set permissions for you in a heartbeart. You have to have a correctly set up server or a hosting company that is serious about your ASP hosting needs.
I mean you come to us with this mess of a situation, we tell you its a bad setup. We tell you to rebuild the server correctly or make a new one. Now instead of doing that you come to us with another mess of a situation. Now you act all frustrated because you have spent so much time on this. How the heck do you think we learned everything we know ? Do you think we have never spent weeks on a problem or stayed up for 4 nights in a row without sleep. That is how you learn and it is called experience. I have no sympathy for someone that complains about how long something took because I am right there with the best of them and I have paid my dues.
Have you by chance read all of this thread below because despite what you keep telling me you are totally falling into this category. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo234-1.htm Granted you may not be "Joe Coder" but you are definetly "that guy" who doesn't really know what is going on with ASP.NET. "that guy" who sets up his own server and knows enough to be dangerous. You definetly have enough sense/basic skills to dig around and read articles and try things but when you are on the wrong track that only helps out so much.
Also: I really was pretty tired when I got home last night, but now that I really think about what you did with that webserver/domain controller is about the worst moves possible when it comes to IIS hosting setups.. That is just SO BAD !! Now, don't think that I haven't done some REAL stupid things in the past. John too, like the time 5 or so years back when thought he could make a Windows XP Pro webserver for serious non development use . Anyway, that is how you learn. I suggest you get your server running correctly (not a domain controller) or you get a real host like www.alentus.com for your asp hosting needs. I mean you can get an account for like 10.00 a month and end all these headaches right now. I even know one of the head techs there as well as the general manager. Their ASP and ASP.NET support is 2nd to none.
You may not like what I have to say, (hell, I can pretty much guarantee you won't) but I tell it like it is and in the long run you will be better off for it.. We spent a ton of time developing the .NET version of this product and we sell it way less than it is worth especially since we provide source code. It is an awesome product, but if the server isn't truly and correctly supporting ASP.NET or they host will not set permissions than it is out of our hands. As far as I am concerned anything else is a waste of everyone's time. I am not going to play that game. Quite frankly, you need to get your stuff together. Nothing you have come up with so far has anything to do with a bug with ASPProtect.NET. Everything has been server related.
QUALITY HOSTING !!! PROFESSIONALY AND CORRECTLY SET UP SERVER !!!
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE !!! , No, because ASPProtect.NET is licensed per and only runs in One website (one iis application)
That error however probably has more to do with parent paths being disabled on the server., Christopher,
When viewing a list of albums with the navigation option 1, is there a way to get the Time Created sort to list Newest to Oldest, instead of Oldest to Newest.
Looking at the code in albums_navigation1_inc.asp, I can not determine how this works.
Thanks for your help!
- Jason
p.s. I always forget how addicting this stuff can be...lol.
, Okay, I'm going nuts trying to find that settings screen.
I've got a dedicated server that I connect to using "Remote Desktop
Connection" so it looks like a regular Windows desktop. It's running
Windows Server 2003.
There's a program called "IIS Manager" but I've looked at all the
options for all the different sections and I don't find anything that
looks even remotely like that screen. And, of course, Windows
Help is no help at all.
What program do I run to get to that configuration screen?
Thanks,
Robert Gidley
, Disallowed Parent Path
The Include file '../dataconn_inc.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.
When you get an error like this it is because parent paths are disabled on the web server. This is a setting in the IIS console for your website.
If it is not enabled on you server you will have to ask your host to enable parent paths for your website.
This is what the settings screen looks like on an XP Machine

Additional Information:
It is enabled by default on IIS4-IIS5 but in IIS6 it is disabled by default. It is a minor security risk to have enabled and some hosts can be difficult about setting it.
Truth is, if your hosting ASP for customers you need to enable this setting if the customer requests it. Especially since 90% of the ASP applications out there require the setting.
Hosting companies should if they are serious about hosting ASP.
If they won't your only option is to go through all the code and convert the file includes to virtual includes.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
The trouble with virtual includes is they are different depending on the layout of your website. (that's why web application developers generally don't use them)
Basically if you are in a sub domain the path for the virtual include is going to be different then if you were in the root.. etc etc
Also.. someone developing on a local machine would need totally different virtual includes on the development server than they would on the live server. Server Side includes are processed before ASP so there is no way to make them SMART, so to speak. Server Side includes are hardcoded and that's that.
In my opinion virtual includes are pretty useless for commercial web based applications... Since you don't know where the customers plan to install the apps. And YES there are some tricks when designing the applications that make it less of an issue but they are not perfect solutions.
For example...
The virtual include below would work if the application or code was installed in the root <!--#include virtual = /somefile.asp"-->
But if the application or code was installed in a directory called "somedirectory" the virtual include directive would need to look like this
<!--#include virtual = "/somedirectory/somefile.asp"--> cwilliams38391.6033101852, More Upgrade Info
To upgrade an existing ASPBanner system please follow these steps.
Back up your old system completely before starting.
Install the new system per the installation instructions that came with it.
Once it is running simply use your old ASPBanner database with the new system.
You may also want to keep your banner images folder from before in the same location so your existing banners still link to valid image urls because the new system stores banner images in a new location.
Since the config table in the database is no longer used you will need to go to the settings screen of aspbanner again and configure things. The config table in your old database can be deleted or left alone. It won't be used anymore so it does not matter either way.
That is all there is to it. If you have any issues please ask in the forums and we will help you out. cwilliams38211.7525231481, You can mix and match banner calling methods all you want. Try it and see what happens.
However, the only method that is going to work on non ".asp" pages is the javascript or the new iframe method listed in the support forums.
cwilliams38209.532349537, If you want to have a login form on a non protected page that posts to a protected ".asp" page use code like this.
Change the action of the form to the page you want them to log into. Make sure to page you send them to is protected by the "check_user_inc.asp" file.
<center> <table border="0" width="400" height="200" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F4F4F4"> <form method="POST" action="memberarea.asp"> <input type="hidden" name="Status" value="Checkem"> <p align="center"><font face="Arial">ASPProtect Login</font></p> <div align="center"> <center> <table border="0" bgcolor="#C0C0C0"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><strong><small><font face="Arial">Username</font></small></stro ng></td> <td><input type="text" name="Username" size="10"></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB"><strong><small><font face="Arial">Password</font></small></stro ng></td> <td><input type="Password" name="Password" size="10"></td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#EBEBEB" colspan="2"><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size="-1"><input type="checkbox" name="KEEPMESIGNEDIN" value="True">Keep me signed in on this computer unless I log off.</font></td> </tr> </table> </center> </div> <div align="center"> <center> <p> <input type="submit" value="Login"></p> </center> </div> </form> </td> </tr> </table> </center> , I just told you a lot of different things to try... and I doubt you have tried them in the time since I mentioned them , Hello,
I do not really understand what you mean? There are no country and city lists in ASPClassifieds. cwilliams38391.0301388889, check permissions for the user you are connecting to the SQL database. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo122-1.htm
That user may not have permission to make new data
Also, check all field and table settings manually by comparing them to the SQL creation script we provide. You may very well be missing auto increment and primary keys which would make adding new data not work.
It is most likely one of those two things. , any asp code that accesses an access database, writes to text files, or allows for picture uploading will need permissions set on certain directories
every application out there is going to need permissions set at some point
its just a fact.. and if your hosting company does not give you a way to manage permissions or have it done when you ask they do not know what they are doing and they are not supporting your asp hosting needs
see my article for more info on the whole process http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo136-1.htm the part newar the bottom talks about hosting companies , Update..
I have support for the ibulc image uploading client working.
http://www.ibulc.com/
There is also an option in asp photo gallery pro to store the images original filename in the description field which is pretty cool.
Ibulc client bulk upload support currently only works with the pure vbscript upload or the safileup component. (I may support the other two components asp photo gallery can use but it really depends on time) The pure vbscript upload code I am using for this is much better than the code I was using before so that method should be offer decent performance for anyone though using a component is always better.
I still have to add the ibulc feature to the users side. It currently all only works for an admin user.
The whole process is very cool. You install the ibulc client on you computer. It's tiny, and free for uploading up to 10 (100kb) pictures at once. You have to by a domain license from them to do more than 10. Anyway.. it lets you select multiple pictures off your hard drive and it then uploads them all at once with individual progress info for each picture. Its really cool and since it really treats each picture as an individual upload it doesn't hammer the server with one big upload at once.
I also made it so you can start the picture uploads at any picture number. So if you already have pictures in an album you can add more without losing what is already there.
This was one of the main features of the new version and now that it is working hopefully I can tie up any loose ends and get the new version out soon. cwilliams38327.5488541667, huh? I think I just covered that as that is the way it must be done., Our home page is not showing up gives this error:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'
Include file not found
/Default.asp, line 246
The include file 'elib/articles/home_feature1.asp' was not found. , I log all 404 errors on my site and since installing ASPBanner, I get a lot of the following error:
/aspbanner/edit_banner.asp?Banner_ID=11&User_ID=1 contains a broken link:
/aspbanner/right1.gif
ID changes and there are various missing links. Some missing links include:
/aspbanner/drop2.gif /aspbanner/left1.gif /aspbanner/right2.gif etc.
While not critical, these are filling up my error logs and it takes time for me to sort through them. , also.. the log out page shouldnt really need this but you can try adding this to it where all the other ones are set to nothing..
<% Session("Groups") = "" %> cwilliams38341.7215046296, There are several pages on my website that a user may go to that are not protected (e.g. home page). If the user has indicated that they want to be saved on this computer (until they explicitly log off), and their 1st entry point is to an unprotected page, how do I determine whether they have logged in before, and extract the info from the cookie / session variables without forcing them to log in or making the entry page protected?
, How can i get to this to register someone in the database only after the Paypal payment has been accepted. I was testing it out to see if it makes it to my Paypal account (which it did just fine) then I closed Paypal before paying. I logged in as the administrator and looked at the member list and the account was created anyway. How can I stop this from being created until "only" after the Paypal payment has been "approved"?
What if this person never comes back to "try again"? Now the username he used (and is inactive) is not available for anyone else to use. And it takes up database space.
I am using the Paypal (non-subscription)
Thanks in advance, scottyFlasher , For all you advanced users..
Here are two examples of ASP.NET code you can use on your ".aspx" pages to call banners from the ASP 3.0 version of ASPBaner Unlimited V8
This code is not supported... and you of course must change things accordingly like the variable names and zone numbers to match the zone you want to call banners from as well as the url.

cwilliams38226.6523263889, Do what it says so you can see the real error and then post that information here. It could be anything from incorrect permissions to whatever.cwilliams38454.4272916667, Chris,
2Checkout.com has added to their required cart parameters:
https://www.2checkout.com/documentation/newparameters.html
Do you have a version of 2checkout2.asp that will support these?
Thanks,
Nick , Is there an easy way to make this work with reoccurring a monthly or yearly subscription? , Thank you!!
Yippee!

, I have been using the AspHttp Component method for displaying my ads along with the google adsense code. However, in the last few days my site was taking too long to load, so I replaced the AspHttp component, with Javascript method. The site was back to speed. But now, the Google Adsense banners do not show up. Is there a solution for that? Can the Javascript show Adsense banners also? Because they do show the Flash banners., I agree -- don't use the code as is. I provided it only as an idea for a work-around if your ASPProtect users with Internet Explorer complain about the Page Expired message.
I did not test it to be sure the parms coming into the target page (which would be part of the URL when bookmarking) are properly preserved. It would be easy to make sure they are preserved, but I am not sure the code in the example does that. I also customized the code with my own page header and footer.
I have the Option Pack but the site does not need it yet so I haven't applied it. I don't expect many problems re-applying my few lines of modifications.
The IE behavior is not a big deal if you provide an explicit login page, since users would have less interest in paging back to that. In my case, I simply gave a link to a protected part of the site, and when they take that link, they instead get the login form if they aren't logged on. Once they log on, they get their desired content page, to which they sometimes want to page back later on.
From searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base and other sources, I could not find a way (using HTML) to turn off IE's behavior of refusing to quietly reload a page containing form data. Netscape does not do this. So my IE workaround is to ensure my target page does not contain the login form. It does not solve the cause of the problem, but in this case it gets rid of the Page Expired error message for my IE users.
I also purchased ASPProtect for another site, and I'm using that "out of the box" unmodified. I'm very pleased with ASPProtect's functionality and the fact that it works completely without the need to customize. However, I've found it is very easy to customize if I want to.
Jim
Puli Club of America , ok, so from your PM Iknow you are using SQL server with IIS5. You say you created the SQL database using the provided scripts and that is good.
What is going on may just be a weird odbc issue that sometimes happens on IIS5 when using SQL server and I have an idea on how to remedy it.
Edit the "config_inc.asp" with notepad.
Change
If Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = "" Then Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_SOFTWARE") End If
To
Application("SERVER_SOFTWARE") = "iis/6"
And lets see if that helps the situation.
it will change some SQL String query values in the application from "-1" to "1"
either should always work but under certain scenariois only one or the other works, You can also try setting asphttp's user agent property to some browser version like in this example. It might stop that info from showing up when it fetches a page from the server.
<% Dim BanObj1Http Set BanObj1Http = Server.CreateObject("AspHTTP.Conn") BanObj1Http.UserAgent = "Mozilla Compatible (MS IE 3.01 WinNT)" BanObj1Http.Url = " http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?Ba nnerZone=1" Response.Write BanObj1Http.GetURL set BanObj1Http = nothing %>
Also... I dont know if these values below will work but I got them from looking at my nt logs.
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)
And here is more info on the asphttp component and it's settings. http://www.serverobjects.com/comp/asphttp3.htm cwilliams38248.6481365741, Humm, its hard to explain but I am not sure that is a good way to be testing that. I hear what you are saying but I am not sure that really means anything. Whatever is going on its some sort of client side issue with the browser and the meta refreshing over a very long period of time during which there really is no user doing anything at the site. , I'll give it a shot loading it on the laptop and publishing it, if it doesn't work I'll let you know and you can take a look at it tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for all the help tonight...
Good luck pouring that concrete! , I just moved servers and now my "code" ads are giving me errors...
"google_ad_width" is undefined.
I have tried adding the width and height... taking it out.. all the basic stuff.
Any ideas?
TIA , in that file "upload_post.asp"
change
<% If Session("Admin") <> "True" Response.End End If %>
to
<% If Session("Admin") <> "True" Then Response.End End If %>
, We have a site that currently runs ASPProtect and would like to install a second instance of it. The reason is that the current one is set up to manually authorize new users (it is for applying discounts to the Trade), but we want a second instance that will allow new users to register freely (this is for personalization).
Has anyone set up such a goofy scenario themselves? Is this even possible?
Thank you! ,
The reason is obvious, the file is called aspprotectlogin.aspx. It is self advertising for your product which is against the law for me to do on a government support website such as mine. Every other login system I have come across uses the login.aspx file. If I can’t change it I will file with the credit card company and return your product. I do like your product and hope to stay one of your customers. I will let you know, thanks for your help. , If the physical path isnt right and the permissions are not right it just plain will not work. You will not get an error.
If the filesystem object is disabled on the webserver it will not work either. Something has to be wrong.
Please start a new thread when the topic changes.. thanks
It helps to keep the forums organized for other users in the future. cwilliams38454.6146180556, sorry your having so much trouble. A good host is a must.
Yes, that is most likely permissions related. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo27-1.htm
You may want to read over my article on how permissions are set. It will give you a very good understanding of the process and may help yo when dealing with your hosting company.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp
there is also an xp pro version of the article for people doing locl development and running iis on their xp box http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_xp_pro_and_permi ssions.asp , ok, it works fine here with that password encryption key and password you sent me. I also looked in the database and I got the same encrypted password password which definetly has a weird hidden line break in it. (for example if you copy and paste it only the 1st part shows up like when you pasted it above.. as it is really the same length as the that guys email address)
Maybe you do not have the newest code. (I added some code to check for those weird line breaks and take care of them) I am going to PM you the latest version. Please download it and just take the "check_user_inc.asp" file out and copy it into your existing install.
Then try logging in as that person again.
If that works you should also grab the new version of "password_admin/check_admin_inc.asp" as well,
