Have you thought about language file so users dont have to go into the code to put it in their language?? , Chris:
The string is being saved and I get a .wav ring sound to confirm. I have tried editing in "notepad" and then running the "data/show_path_info.asp" file after with the same results.
Ken
,
That is by design and how it is designed to function.
There is no easy way to do what you are asking about.
Can it be done ?, sure!!
But it is a lot of custom coding to sort it all out and not something we support.
If I were you I would simply edit the login box screen to show some hyperlinks and options should a person need to use them. , well, assuming that function works and is vbscript not vb (if it is vb code it may need some conversion work)
anyway
in "users/add_new_account.asp"
you would put the code for that function anywhere in the page.. it does not matter where as long as it is in code tags <% %>
then.. right under this part of the same page
If Zipcode_Postal_Code_Required = True Then If Zipcode_Postal_Code = "" Then ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You need to enter a Zipcode_Postal_Code.\n\n") End IF End If
add this
If Check_Postcode(Zipcode_Postal_Code) <> True Then ErrorMessage = ErrorMessage & Server.URLEncode("You need to enter a Valid Zipcode_Postal_Code.\n\n") End If
No guarantees but that is the gist of it cwilliams38381.6456828704, well, I just tried a password using "abcdefghi" and like you said it did not work
I am looking into that.
Also, it seems I had the SQL scripts creating the "Old Password" field just in case someone needed it and I forgot about that. , I have tried everything to get your CJWSoft code working..I purchased the auto listings software and I am stumped, and actually you stumped my hosting provider, my database is stored in the database directory on the root.
I have even tried your ASPtest and still cannot connect. My have connected other databases without an issue on this same host, I have named a DNS Auto for my database and ponted to that in my code but get the following error you see at http://www.burkesauto.com and even when i try you test script found here at http://www.burkesauto.com/asptest.asp . cwilliams38145.8522800926, nope ,sql server has nothing to do with this
I am talking about the folder pictures are stored in.. it needs modify permissions set for the internet guest account like those articles talk about
,
I would like to delete the SQL tables and set them up from scratch using enterprise manager and sql query manager and see what happens
If that is ok with you let me know.
Something is wrong like I said... almost seems like the database is caching old password info from the field.
Sure go ahead , Hi
I would like to ensure the the user uses a UK style postcode not a clue how to ensure this as I am new to asp. Any ideas?
regards
John , I had some issues with passwords not working. I cleared them up by
going to the affected user and typing in the desired password manually
on the edit screen. Worked like a champ every time, and I haven't had
to do that for some time now.
, Post a request in the "custom code work" forum. Perhaps another customer will want to do the work or help you out with some code.
I am just too busy to do any custom work for quite a while.
, Look in the "check_user_inc.asp" file..
You'll see the name of the cookie there and also get an idea how to access it.
In most versions it looks like this.
Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME")
You'll want the cookie for the username because the session variable will not exist unless they have actually gone to a protected page during that session at the site.
It would probably be best the check for both the session and the cookie. That will make sure people logged in that arent using the cookie option still see the message you want to display.
Sorta like this..
GetUsername = "" If Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME") <> "" Then GetUsername = Request.Cookies("PASWORDSYSTEMCOOKIE")("COOKIE_USERNAME") Else If Session("Username") <> "" Then GetUsername = Session("Username") End If
Response.Write GetUsername cwilliams38298.9175, like I said you made changes to something to cause that...
users/user_area.asp
runs fine the way it ships "it is one of things I tested earlier when I looked at your installation for you"
If you want I'll go look via FTP and tell you what is wrong cwilliams38456.1069212963, well, like I said.. I am leaving in about 5 minutes for the wedding.
If you put this up on a live server that I can connect to I will look at it tommoro for you. I have told you everything I could possibly tell you so I dont think your going to figure it out based on the things you have told me so far.
Only other thing I can think of is make sure your not running anything goofy on that server 2003 box. Norton Antivirus script blocking... various ad blockers.. anti spyware applications... etc etc... They can cause problems as well. , the no concurrent login feature is based on IP addresses.. if you logged in again using the same IP address it would let you in regardless. So for example if you were behind a rhome router and logged in to a site on the internet it would nt matter if you had multiple computers at home because they would all have the same external IP address... etc etc
In other words it is tricky to correctly test..
I really need more detailed info on everything going on. I real world scenarios there are no issues with that feature that I know of. At least according to customers so far. , This article from my old powerasp.com site explains what Server.MapPath is and also why you can't use it to specify the data connection in any of the CJWSoft applications.
Use ASP to determine the Physical Path Of Your Virtual Website
As this article mentions you can still use it to determine the path, but you can't use it in our data connection strings because the data connection page is an include file and server.mappath will report back different paths for the different directories....... meaning it will work in one directory level but not another as the path will be different.
cwilliams38084.7454282407, here is the answer http://www.iisanswers.com/IIS51.htm
CDONTS
CDONTS (Colloaborative Data Objects for NT Server) is a feature of NT and W2K that allows you to easily send mail from a web page using the SMTP server. The simplicity of the code and widespread availability of free scripts employing CDONTS has resulted in CDONTS being widely adopted.
Quite a surprise to many administrators to discover that IIS 5.1 does not support CDONTS as do IIS 4.0 and IIS 5.0. This has been replaced by CDOSYS which appears to have more capability, but it is not quite as simple to use. See: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q195 683 for more details.
You can enable CDONTS on XP by copying CDONTS.DLL from a Windows 2000 installation to your XP system’s Windows\System32 folder (default name). Then at command prompt Windows\System32 run REGSRV32 CDONTS.DLL. The extent of my testing on this was to deliver one piece of mail, so this should not be construed as a complete analysis of the effectiveness of this technique. cwilliams38392.8260300926, Chris: You are right about a little extra coding to make it work. I am still learning .ASP coding, so I did a little web searching and used IF THEN statments to confirm a member logged in with a valid Access Code. If valid, the protected page executes, with the Member's Name and Access Level on a single line at the top of that page. Looks sharp! If not logged in, or a non member (who found the page via Google), I used a Redirect to send s/he to a login page with optional links as you suggested (http://www.vspa.com/aspprotect/vspa-password-failed.asp) . I couldn't get it to work when using Group Access, but I am sure that is just because I am a novice at .ASP (I will post that example when I figure it out). Meanwhile, here's the code I used that works:
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="dataconn_inc.asp"--> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="config_inc.asp"--> <% =Session("First_Name") %> <% =Session("Last_Name") %>: <% If Session("Access_Level") = "6" Then Response.Write "VSPA Active Member Access Level 6" End If If Session("Access_Level") = "7" Then Response.Write "VSPA Life Member Access Level 7" End If If Session("Access_Level") = "8" Then Response.Write "VSPA Officer/Staff Access Level 8" End If If Session("Access_Level") < "6" Then Response.Write "Access Level 1-6 NOT AUTHORIZED RESTRICTED AREA ACCESS" Response.Redirect("vspa-password-failed.asp") End If %><!-- http://www.vspa.com/aspprotect/vspa-password-enter.asp --> <!-- *** End ASPProtect Code *** --> <html> <head>
, 5300 users honetly wouldn't even phase the database or the code... even with MSAccess...you got other problems and I can say that with 150% certainty
my guess is permissions on the database folder are not quite right or the odbc drivers have issues.. something along those lines..
access databases act up when full modify permissions are not given to the folder they are in.... they can also act up if the odbc drivers are very new and you are not using a newer version of the access database such as 2002 version as opposed to a 97 or 2000 version
using a system dsn as opposed to a dsn-less connection can also cause BIG issues. always use a DSN-LESS connection
you can also have big problems if just the database file is given permissions instead of the whole directory it is in
also, the script timeout has nothing to do with it.. if that is happening something is wrong with the data connection like I said... no amount of changing timeouts is going to cure it...
how permissions are correctly set http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp
why system dsn's with access databases are bad news http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo9-1.htm
I know it worked at 1st but it can still be related to all of this because when permissions are not perfect databases will work ok for a while and then act up. it all has to do with the temporay lock files that access creates and deletes on a regualr basis
, MSACCESS 2000

vaghelis38300.5484143519, Hello,
Sorry No, there is not.
not the way the code ships.. The program keeps tracks of everything by the way it ranames files. The system has been tested to work well with as many as 10,000 images files. Any more than that and you need something a little more serious meant for that amount of images.
You could certainly modify it do work that way if you are good with source code. There are actually as many drawbacks as doing doing it that way as there are advantages. Take Care
, its no different than linking to an image or another page. you have to adjust the path to the include file based on what directory you are in.. or you get an error
This is noted in the admin area on the code generator page which also gives you 2 examples of ways of calling the server side include. (Virtual or File include)
These threads below are also full of info. I found them by doing a quick search and they should help you out as well.

cwilliams38431.8787152778, You do not say something like that in a support forum for a legitimate software product. I don't think piracy is funny in the least bit. Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:1.1.4322.2300; ASP.NET Version:1.1.4322.2300
My guess is that this is an issue with the fact that I'm in a shared hosting environment that is restricted by CAS. Before I move to a dedicated server, I'd like to verify that this is the issue. I'd appreciate your input.
My host is 1and1 Internet. You may find this FAQ helpful: http://faq.1and1.com/scripting_languages_supported/_net/16.h tml.
, We do not support customization of the code or any custom coding you may end up doing with Visual Studio.NET. However, if you can show me that the application functions incorrectly in its default unmodified form I can help. If not it has to be something you did most likely.
Though I do not if it is the issue, mixing c# and vb.net in the same project can be tricky if not problematic. It’s definitely just not something I can support.
If you have not seen it we have tuturial on setting up the project in visual studio.net. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo85-1.htm
I would suggest starting with a clean installation. Test everything to make sure the things you say are ok or not. (if not post here about it) Then try your hand at editing the application and compiling it. Keep the c# out of the mix at 1st.
I am not even sure if adding c# to the same project is feasable. (maybe it is , maybe it isn't)
That being said.. ASPProtect.NET can of course be used to protect pages using c#. But compiling the ASPProtect.NET project with C# code added sounds a bit iffy to me. We wrote the application in VB.NET so you really need to use vb.net when making changes to it. , Access to some sections of the forums must be requested. Please Click on the following link and read all of it carefully.

cwilliams38291.6121296296, The version of aspbanner you have should not matter.
What you are doing here is wrong.
<PARAM NAME=movie VALUE=" http://www.innovationtools.com/aspbanner/aspbanner/banner_re direct.asp?Banner_ID=25">
PARAM NAME=movie is supposed to link to your ".swf" file. And thats why all you see is black.
I don't think you quite understood all of that information fully.
Your ".swf" files needs to be coded in FLASH to link to the aspbanner redirect url. You don't change that flash calling code like that.
The ".swf" file links to the aspbanner redirect url which tracks the click and then redirects the user to the Link URL
You basically need to code your ".swf" flash file to go to that aspbanner URL or code your flash file so it can take a parameter for the url it clicks to (like the macromedia article talks about. This has to be done when editing the flash file in the flash editor before the file is saved.
If you dont have access to the original ".swf" to edit it and re-save it.. your out of luck as far as tracking clicks goes , well, I need more details..
you got SQL server or data connection issues is pretty much the bottom line
If I remember right we went down this road with a SQL setup quite a while back (auguest 2005) and that never really got resolved
here it is http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=321&KW =yiak
, Hi Chris,
Thank you for your prompt response.
Our current project requires alot of customization.
Yes, the error is probably a data problem and not due to your code, because we needed to make modifications to the database. But that's why debugging would be helpful.
Basically our intent to modify the asp protect code stems from the fact that our client doesn’t want certain fields to be recorded or to appear: address, city, state, zip etc…
We are happy to be able to modify the HTML, but we also want to modify some other default behavior, such as which page opens when the "cancel" button is hit in the editaccountinfo.aspx page.
, all that docmunetation is online as well right here so you dont really need the chm file http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/info24.htm
the chm format is a windows format that can only be viewed on windows pcs. I do not know why you can not see it. I would do reseach on viewing CHM files on whatever operating system and version you are running because perhaps you are using a mac or linux operating system which can not natively view chm files ?
, I have no idea of what kind of 'stuff' to try. I'm running other asp apps that use there own Access databases with no problem whatsoever., Redirecting is not something ASPProtect does because you can do that sort of thing using simple ASP redirects.
In all of these examples you are going to want to protect the pages you send these users to accordingly. So that if they know the url they just cant go their directly without loging in.
Redirecting example.. This page will redirect admins or level 4 users to a certain page and anyone else to another page. <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% If Session("Admin") = "True" or Session("Access_Level") = "4" Then Response.Redirect("sompage.asp") Else Response.Redirect("someotherpage.asp") End If %>
Redirecting example.. This page will redirect level 1 users to a certain page. level 2 users to certain page, and anyone else to another page. <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% If Session("Access_Level") = "1" Then Response.Redirect("level1.asp") ElseIf Session("Access_Level") = "2" Then Response.Redirect("level2.asp") Else Response.Redirect("allothers.asp") End If %>
Redirecting example.. This page will redirect user "PistolPete" to a certain page.
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <% If Session("Username") = "PistolPete" Then Response.Redirect("somedirectory/somepage.asp") End If %>
then just make sure the page you send the user to to also checks to see if the user is the right user.... to make sure others users can't access each others pages <% If Session("Username") <> "PistolPete" Then Response.Write("You do not have access to this page.") Response.End End If %>
etc etc etc.... these code snippets should point you in the right direction...
, It almost seems like allow images is denied. When I look at the ad it doesn't even show a place where the thumbnail or image would go:
Columns now are Ad Name/ Price / Expires / Hits
There used to be one before Ad Name.
Even unchecked (saved) and checked
Use_Picture_Upload |
< = value=True name=Use_Picture_Upload> Check this if you will be using the picture uploading feature. |
, I had not rebooted after installing the Jet driver updates, so I tried that and the asptest page worked fine, and said that all the tests were successful and that the data connection was setup correctly. I then installed aspprotect again, but with the same results. I cannot log-in from the get_me_in.asp page. It still says that it is opening the page, but does not respons for an indefinite period. The asptest page is in the same directory.
I have looked for alternate databases for this product on your site, but I cannot seem to find them. , Thanks and glad that fixed it.
You can review this software at http://www.aspin.com/func/review?id=4952510
That being said, ASPIN has a lot of problems with anonymous reviews so if you can please sign up with them and post an Authentic review as they carry a lot more weight. Authentic reviews involve responding to their validation email so when doing so use a real email address that you regularly check.
And sorry I made you use the forums, but as you can see this is exactly the sort of thread that will help someone else later on.. and that is why I require people to use the forums now instead of just email support. That way the conversations are out in the open where they can help everyone instead of buried in my outlook where no one will ever see them. And of course if information is sensitive you can always do a Private Message as you did earlier.
It is all about creating a knowlegebase of valuable information. , i've got a client who has handed me a 151 character banner URL, and i see that the database is designed to take 150 characters. i took the obvious step of just increasing the size of that text field in the database, but i still get this error when i try to enter the URL in the proper form field:
Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.
/banners/aspbanner/save_banner.asp, line 200
now, line 200 is just this:
If Banner_Link_URL = "" THEN CmdEditBanner.Fields("Banner_Link_URL") = NULL Else CmdEditBanner.Fields("Banner_Link_URL") = Banner_Link_URL End If
which tells me that something is blocking the assignment of that long value to that field, even though i believed i had extended the length of that field in the source database.
where else might i look?
, I did not set that variable in the IPN code that aspprotect uses. It is optional.
You will want to download PayPal's IPN documentation and see what the variable is called and then add it to the IPN form code if you want to use it.
it will be a hidden form variable (one line of code added to) paypal2.asp, this error really does not mean anything specific
Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"
If you get an error its real weird that the file is being uploaded. Generally if you get an error during upload it is because of one of these 3 things
Invalid physical path specified
Unsupported upload method chosen
Permissions
See my article on XP and permissions http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_xp_pro_and_permi ssions.asp
many people dont do their permissions right on XP Pro and that article covers everything , As I already had directories in my web site root called 'images' and 'templates' I loaded the files into a sub directory called 'aspprotect' as suggested in the installation guide where it say 'either way it really doesn't matter'.
However, it does.
The scripts are often looking for a file which it can't find because the /aspprotect part of the path is missing. Example:
I can't find a way of editing all the scripts that need changing. I'm assuming it would be easier to change my site to avoid using subdirectories used by aspprotect and reinstalling from scratch straight into the root directory.
Anyone with any suggestions?
Many thanks
Ian ,
