, Our webhost changed converted all sites from c: to d:, and without us doing anything else, our customers now get the following error message when trying to access our Classifieds site:

This means there is most likely a problem with the "ConnectionString" info that you specified.
If you are using a DSN-Less Connection with MSACCESS.
Check that the physical path to the database has been specified correctly.
It has to be perfect and correct. It cannot be specified using "http://" or by using "server.mappath".
It has to be specified like the following example.
ConnectionString = "DBQ=D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\advpass_pro\_database\passwords.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=admin;PASSWORD=Xpass"
If this is running on an NT server or Win2000 Server make sure that permissions have been set on the database.
Only the server admins can do this. If you are not the admin you will have to ask for this to be done.
If you are using a System DSN
It is not set up correctly. Again, make sure the permissions have been set for the database and that the system DSN has been set up correctly by the server admins.

We did everything the web host asked us to do, that is, changed all references to the C drive to new references to the D drive, but the error is still there. We also never changed any passwords (as far as we can remember). Can someone please tell us where to look (also which file might tell us what the correct password is in case it has in fact been changed.

We actually do not tell you to put nothing in the PayPal system for the IPN URL. Something has to be there or PayPal will not let you enable IPN. We actually tell you in you PayPal settings to turn on IPN and make up an IPN url because something has to go there. (I think we suggested making a blank asp page on you're site to send it to) It really doesn't matter where you send that but it might as well be a valid page on your site to avoid any 404 errors in your logs when a non ASPProtect payment comes in.
You see, we dont set that IPN url set in the PayPal system because each ASPProtect signup script directory (single payment and subcription) uses it own IPN url and that all gets set on the fly by the aspprotect system. There is a way to overide the defaul IPN url is what I am saying.
Also:
A lot of people already have something there and we didn't want the ASPProtect system to interfere with things they already had going on.
cwilliams38421.530787037, you can whatever you like but like I said those gif files are already in the correct place. The log parser is messing up. , Actually it would because you would just count records for that user that are also active
and yes, users cant delete albums.. they can only turn them off which really means the albums lose their active status
only the admin can truly delete an album the way the code is
(that's just the way I did it for some reason.. I don't remember why)

its not the banner system .. its the .net engine and the calling method

, I would say that it isn't all that difficult using mySQL for the backend....the main thing is to make sure you set the primary keys for auto-incrementing in your database. Alos need to make sure that any DELETE SQL statements are formatted like this
DELETE FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
and not
DELETE * FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
The same holds true for using MSSQL
, We have been using ASP Protect for a while now and are big fans of the program. We received ASP Banner 8.2 with our puchase which we now have a need for. I went to put the files on our webpage, and doing nothing else other than locating the directory there, I noticed differences with how ASP Protect operates. We have customized it a bit and want to keep the 2 programs separate. the login screen for one showed up on the other, and some ASP Protect pages appeared altered so i immediately deleted ASP Banner. did I do something wrong, and how can i ensure the 2 programs work completely independant of each other? We can't risk braking what we're now using but would really like to add banner functionality to some of our pages. maybe an update to the program before we install? puchase new software? , It's custimization work. and just not something I can support.
Basically it is basic ASP/Database work.
Something you kind of need to figure out on your own. It's not difficult work for a good asp coder but there is no easy way and it is time comsuming.
I wouldn't use the custom fields though. I would make your own.
It's simpler that way.

The import/export manager does not show up under the users tab when I log in normally. I have to pull up the page in frontpage and then preview it a browser to get it to show.

, Well. fontpage publishing is evil. That you have found out.
Do not use it. It usually wont work right when running asp code locally and also at the server because of differences with the paths and virtual directory structure. etc etc etc
You can definetly use frontpage to connect to the web site live and drag and drop files into it/edit them... but the sooner you stop using the publishing feature the better off you will be.
, There are problems with your sql server database then. It was not set up correctly.
The 1st problem relates to having "used stored procedures" checked in the settings page.. but not actually giving those stored procedure execute permissions which they need to run. That is something that must be done on the SQL enterprise manager side of things either by you if you are allowed or your hosting company.
If you can not get the execute permissions set on the stored procedures for the sql database user you are using then turn off that option in the settings page and try things without it.
The 2nd error I am not sure of at this point so correct the 1st issue and we will go from there. It could be another sql database issue (not created correctly) or it could be an asp code issue of some sort though I doubt that or other people would have had problems on that page as well. I also just tested it out and looked the code over and I did not have any issues here. , Now, we can connect to the MySQL database with ASPBanner using the following connection string if we like.
"driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};server=localhost;port=3306;uid=root;pwd=temp;databas e=aspbanner;option=16386"
But we really do not want to connect to the aspbanner MySQL database using the "root" account
So, lets make an account to use..
In MySQL Administrator select "User Administration"
Down below you will see the user "root"
Right click on "root" and select "Add new user"
Type in a New MySQL Username and Password
I am going to call my new user "aspbanneruser"
Hit the Schema Privileges" tab
In this case since I am using the root account to manage my MySQL system I am just going to give this new user account what it needs to use the aspbanner database.. you may want to apply more permissions to the new account, that is up to you.. I am giving the new user (select, insert, update, delete, execute) So I right click on the aspbanner and then bring over the permissions I need for it.. and hit apply changes down in the bottom right.
We can now connect to the aspbanner MySQL database using this new account like so.
"driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};server=localhost;port=3306;uid=aspbanneruser;pwd=tem p;databas e=aspbanner;option=16386"

, You can not edit that code with dreamweaver. It will re-arrange the asp and kill it.
If you want to change the look of the login html you have to edit the html by hand in a text editor.
Or create what you want on a blank page using your editor of choice and carefully use parts of that in the ASPProtect code.
In version 7 the login screen is one asp page by itself and is much easier to edit with just about any editor. In version 6 you have to know your html and be careful.
Either way I am not sure templates are a good idea for something like that. That sort of thing tends to cause problems with dynamic code that executes under different directory levels. You want to stick to regular html techniques. , if you use either of those options the mail server info you use must of course be valid (example: mail.somesite.com) your host can provide that info
you should also make sure your sending the emails using an account at your email server.. not some other email you have
other than that if it does not send emails it could be because your hosting company may require authentication for outgoing emails...
ask them ...
if that is the case the version of ASPBanner you have does not support sending email that way and you would need to add the necessary code to any places that send email... in order for emailing to work

I have purchased ASPProtect to secure a web site that I administor for a soccer league. I am having a hard time getting the code to execute. the instructions are to include this code at the top of the web page under the Language identifier. Like this I think:

After all these are ASP scripts we are dealing with and the product is called ASPProtect.
The web site says it is used to protect ".asp" pages
And the directions tell you to put the protection code on ".asp" pages.
ASP can not run in ".html" pages
If you do not know basic things like this you should really learn the basics of ASP before you try to use the application. I would suggest a good book or two. ASPProtect is for people that have at least some experience with Active Server Pages.

As for the emailing thing it is most likely an email sending issue more than a code problem. For example spam filters incorrectly grabiing those emails or something of that nature..
Best thing to do is try different things for emailing options until you get something that works. I suggest using CDOSYS with a real email server and using a valid email account for yourself at that email domain. SMTP authentication if necessary. This will ensure the emails sent have valid MX records and dont get treated as spam.

I purchased the V8 of the software yesterday. It is running on a 2000 Server with a MSSQL database. It is installed and I get the successful connection to database screen but when I click to enter the admin. console I continually get:
"Connection string not saved in (data/config/aspbanner_unlimited_config.asp) file.
Most likey the data folder does not have proper permissions set on it.
That folder and all of the folders within it need (R,W,X,D) Permissions set for the anonymous webserver account.
These permissions can generally only be set by your hosting company."
I can save the string manually by hitting the button and I have checked that I have granted the proper access permissions. Any suggestions?
Ken, I did try to redit the banner and the old link was there, not the new one. In addition I tried to ad a new banner to an account but it too was not saved.
Since I can see the banners from the aspbanner solution, does that not tell me that the solution is properly connected to the database? The only thing is the solution only appears to be able to read the data and not write or delete it.
The settings for the directory are read write execute and delete so I am not sure what I need to do to get it working again

I've tried almost anything here... I'm using an online SQL SERVER database with ASPProtect 7, and I can't login after my initial creation of the admin account.
It works fine with Access... I believe I have checked all the fields created by the sql statement (which was run with no errors),
What could be the problem here? could it be a problem that I run my local IIS against the online sql server?

, I just remembered the current skin is stored in a text file in the pictures folder. If it did not have permissions for writing it could give you trouble. That could of had something to do with it.cwilliams38295.3821064815, I have noticed that during the file import, that some of the pictures get messed up. I can import aroun 150 pictures into different albums, say 3 albums with 50 each.
I have noticed however that some of the get messed up. What is happening is...the thumbnail will be correct, but after you click it the picture that shows up is one form a different album.
Any cure for this?

That error however probably has more to do with parent paths being disabled on the server., I did a google search and it turns out that error very well might have to do with ASP trying to send an email and that process failing.
That tells me your emailing from the application is not working so it is probably not something you edited incorrectly.

Emailing was working as when I did your installation (I think I did it months ago, didn't I) so it must be some incorrect changes to your email settings in the admin settings screen. Try sending an individual email to a user from the admin users screen and see if it works. My guess is you will get the same error and means your email sending options are no longer correct or valid.
If that is the case I would ask you if you changed them or possibly something changed as far as your email setup goes. Passwords ? EMail Server .. etc etc etc
