Good Morning - I am receiving an Http 500 internal server error when I go to add a new user via the register.asp page. the url when the error appears is: .../users/add_new_account.asp
I think the error has to do with my email component setting - becuase it works fine otherwise.
I have the email component setting set to CDOSYS (using remote server) with the mail.remote.server set to email.cidra.com - email address set to webmaster@cidra.com
Note: I receive the email notification and the user does get added.

UPDATE...I just figured out that it only errors when the email address I use for the user is NOT from cidra.com -- Any idea why?

your email server probably requires outgoing authentication or something like that and that is why internal emails can be sent to but nothing else

As I have my site hosted by a web hosting company (1and1.com), I want to make sure the ASP Photo Gallery software runs correctly before I buy. I am not sure about whether or not they support parent paths because I can find nothing in the online faqs. But, I have two other ASP apps (Forum and News from Web Wiz) running on the site, both connecting to Access databases. I remember having problems initially setting these up because I kept trying to use paths like ../db/wwforum.mdb like I would normally do when referencing images or pages in other folders.
Anyway, here are the database connection strings for the two apps. The first is for the Forum, which is at /forum/common.asp connecting to a database in /db/wwForum.mdb. The second is for the News, at /news/common.asp accessing /db/news.mdb.

The problem is even before this which i didn't know until now.
I placed the protect tag in a page i called members.aspx
When i go to this page is says ACCESS DENIED etc etc etc.
When i go to login to view this page i get the error..which i DIDNT know because i assumed it was working. This is the error im getting:

btw it says /map because that is the subfolder within the root folder , When I go to set up a new user, my user name and password are already in the window. And I am un-sure why. I start a new browser, and again that my same user name and password is in that window., I don't believe that the iframe method is supported in a .NET (aspx) implementation, is it?
JDooley , When a user 1st signs up a proper case function is run on certain fields.
This is only once on user signup and never done in the admin area.
It's goal is to keep things entered in Proper Case,
so if someone enters "chris williams" it becomes "Chris Williams"
It's not perfect but it helps a lot to keep the data clean and more consistent. Since it only happens during registration those values can be changed later by the admin or the user if someone wants to.
The function is only applied to the fields that it makes sense to apply it to....
In your case adding a drop down menu means you want exactly what is in your drop down to appear so you wouldn't want it happening.
That being said, it is really easy to remove this situation from any field it is happening to during registration.
So edit "users/add_new_account.asp" with a text editor
find

and change it to

I just got done trying it myself and it worked great for me too. I was aware of the security issue, but I'd already planned on using SSL for this particular call, as well as for the secured pages accessed through the normal process, so the bad guys will be kept at bay.

, What application you talking about ? I'll assume ASPProtect. In the future please specify what application you are talking about.
ASPProtect 7 already has protection that is quite effective. The no concurrent login feature which will not let the same username under a different ip log in at the same time. Meaning if someone gives out their info they will screw themslves over because eventually they won't be able to log in. Only one unique ip at a time can log in so even of 100 people know the info it won't really do anyone much good except the lucky one that logged in 1st and stayed logged in. The username/password will eventually become more and more useless as more and people know it.
In addition to that is is a good idea to monitor the daily logs and single out a user you see logging in a lot. The more ips you see for that user the more chance it is multiple people logging in and you should take action. , MSACCESS or SQL server ?, Thank you...I thought I was doing something wrong - and thanks for the tip on the virtual path., Just copy the files over. have permissions set on any folders that need it, and edit the data connection so it's valid for the new server. Once you get logged to the admin area go update all the settings so any urls are valid.

As for my installation fee of 25. That is only for new installations. I charge more for something like that as there may be compications such as custom changes to the code that I would have to deal with. Customers often custimize the login and users area.. etc etc .. and there may be hardcoded urls and what not to worry about changing.
LASTLY, I noticed all your other posts are in the ASPProtect 7 area so the installaton process for that is a bit different than for Version 6 so what I said above is not quite the same process. Please make sure you post in the correct area when asking questions. , It turns out that I never enabled ASP.net on the site. After doing that the skins work much better. I'll have to poke around and see what other functionality is now available.

99% of the time it is permissions and sometimes it is related to the filesystem object being disabled on the server or script blocking software such as norton antivirus , Turn off "Show Friendly HTTP error messages"

, The PayPal feature that is in ASPClassifieds has always been labeled as experimental and has never been supported as the documentation says. About a year ago I stopped even mentioning the feature on the product pages or in the live demo because I didn't like how it worked and I decided I would just market the application as a free based classifieds. It’s just not something I can support or talk about. To work really well it really needs to be coded to use PayPal IPN and a credit system. Where ads and various extra features cost so many credits and people have to buy credits before they can post any ads.

The only possible way I can think of that could cause that is if you changed things around too much and the config_inc.asp file is getting run/included twice on that page your logging in to.

Thats one of the big problems with hosting .NET. Some hosting companies just do do some oddball things. ASPProtect.NET works under default conditions but when hosts go around locking things down to the max there is bound to be trouble. This is the 1st I have heard of this.
Now, ASPProtect.NET does use the "System.Data.OleDb" and "System.Data.Odbc" which your host says they block because they require full trust.
All I can really say at the moment is go with a hosting company like www.alentus.com or www.maximumasp.com that does not restrict your .NET abilities so much.
In the meantime I am going to ask John Evans what he thinks about this.

If you want to have a login form on a non protected page that posts
to a protected ".asp" page use code like this.
Change the action of the form to the page you want them to log into.
Make sure to page you send them to is protected by the "check_user_inc.asp" file.

, its one or the other... you cant protect upload.asp at the same time if upload.asp is included in another page..
I mean sure you can protect upload.asp from running when another page calls it by password protecting the page calling it.
And sure you can protect upload.asp by itself if it also runs all by itself. But you can not include the "check_user_inc.asp" more than once in any order of execution scenario. That includes pages being included.
Generally anytime a page is included in another that included page is not meant to run by itself and wouldn't produce any outcome if run by itself so this would never be an issue.
if you don't want "upload.asp" to ever be run by itself in that scenario put it somewhere in your web site that is not web browser accessible.
I would also suggest you look into using Virtual includes. It will save you a lot of time figuring out this sort of thing "../../../../../" becuase once you figure out the virtual include path you can use the same server side include from any directory level.

for a situation like using ASPProtect you really want your root of your virtual directory set up as one big application in IIS. (after you inquired about it your hosting company probably went and set the ASPProtect folder as an application in IIS which means any pages you protect need to be in there as well. The reason is that the current one is set up to manually authorize new users (it is for applying discounts to the Trade), but we want a second instance that will allow new users to register freely (this is for personalization).

I believe you will find it the "config_inc.asp" file in the root though... be careful with naming it though because if you use any spaces or weird characters it might cause issues with various functions in the application like emailing.. I recommend just using letter, numbers, and maybe dashes
