I down loaded your latest ASPProtect.NET_v1.4 and now when i try to get in the admin area it won't let me in. The admin box is selected in the database under the admin user and i can update my user information (password and Address, not username). Is there something that was changed on this version or is it more likely user error on my part? What do you think i should try first?,

It's not normal at all. My guess you accidently edited the code in a bad way.

(thats the same code the every guestbook in every application I sell uses including ASPGuest which gets downloaded for free about 50 times a day)

No one has ever said it acted funny.

I would do a default installation with the original code somewhere and see if the problem occurs. If it does I can take a look.

In the meantime I wouldn't be running that as it is probably using up massive processor time because of whatever is wrong with it.

yea.. it sounds like aspimage is not working right.

You wont get any errors..

I would suggest using some of aspimage's sample asp pages in your web and see if they do their thing. You need to be sure aspimage is working correctly under the ,ost simple of circumstances

Though ASPImage is the standard in ASP image resizing and has been around forever and it works very well. Their support is almost non-existant.. in 6 years they have never answered any email I have sent them. I have sent them 6 or so over the years and then just stopped trying. I bought a server bundle too way back then for like 300.00 or so when we had a company called gisco. You would think they could answer my emails. I think that guy just made a ton of asp components back in the day and then just took a seriously long vacation. Updated them a few times in between when he felt like it and making good money the whole time.. More power too him I guess. I'd love to be in his shoes when he sells an enterprise license for 3000.00. Maybe he isn't even around anymore and the someone he knows just kept the sales going. Who knows..

Anyway... it does a great job when ya get it working.

Personally this is how I install it and it works every time.
I like to put their dll in the system32 folder.
Register it.
Run their licensing prog to make it a full version if you paid for it yet.
Right click on the dll and give the "everyone" account modify permissions
Right click on the "windows/temp" folder and give it the same permissions

First pass through, I don't see anything changed in the groups section of the check_user asp file. the logoff asp wasn't touched.

I noticed the demo online (on this site) only has pages protected with access levels; you say it works fine with groups also?

I have tried everything to get your CJWSoft code working..I purchased the auto listings software and I am stumped, and actually you stumped my hosting provider, my database is stored in the database directory on the root.

I have even tried your ASPtest and still cannot connect. My have connected other databases without an issue on this same host, I have named a DNS Auto for my database and ponted to that in my code but get the following error you see at http://www.burkesauto.com and even when i try you test script found here at http://www.burkesauto.com/asptest.asp .

This first one may be an obvious one, but is it only .asp files that I can protect as in no HTML files.

Can the program be set to protect my whole https directory contents (though the answer to the last question may have bearing here - there are html files as well as .asp in there) as in http://secure.mydomain.com

It wasn't a complaint. I just bought it last night and installed it today. But, I must have missed the part about requiring Enterprise Manager for installing it on SQL.

If you want it the link to the Web Based SQL Manager is : http://www.aspenterprisemanager.com/ which is free and the Trialware that I tried is EMS SQL Manager.

Maybe that will help a little in not requiring that people have an MS SQL license to access their hosted MS SQL to install the software.

I have purchased ASPProtect to secure a web site that I administor for a soccer league. I am having a hard time getting the code to execute. the instructions are to include this code at the top of the web page under the Language identifier. Like this I think:

However, nothing happens. I am not sure if I am missing something.

FYI: the "Check_user_inc.asp" file is in the root directory of the site which is actually two levels down on the d: drive of the server.

When it comes to most languages I am a newbie, let alone ASP.NET. I did not choose to have an application for my site to be built in ASP.NET. However it was and I had paid for that program and it needed protecting!

Now I did have a few problems, however NONE were with ASPProtect.NET. It is brilliant. NONE were with Chris and the support he provides. I believe he must work 24/7 judging by the speed of replies and the timezone differences.

In the end all the problems were down to MY typos and a web host who insisted that any problem was a conflict and not their server set-up.(which it was!)

Having eliminated the typo and changed web provider to a less arrogant company. ASPProtect.NET installed and ran out of the box. Truely impressive.

As a newbie it is not something I would like to do again. But with help from Chris and from a friend with ASP.NET knowledge any issues were very quickly resolved.

An A+ recommendation for CJWSoft. I love it!

, its no different than linking to an image or another page. you have to adjust the path to the include file based on what directory you are in.. or you get an error

This is noted in the admin area on the code generator page which also gives you 2 examples of ways of calling the server side include. (Virtual or File include)

Not really. The way I thought activity would work is that I would always see the last 50 users. Not sure what controls that and why I wasn't seeing it, but it sounds like it is an IIS thing and since my site is not all that busy, it will not show the users if some process has reset the numbers. Not a big deal.

As for the log files, I think it is related to my other question regarding the export directory. I have the ISP looking into things at thier end to see if they are doing anything that could cause the directories to disappear.

As for eliminating the registration its pretty much like what you said.. manually remove the links and what not... etc etc and dont send users to the registration pages..

If you dont want people to be able to edit their info ever... or retrieve lost passwords.. you can delete the users folder completely..

though it's probably better to leave some of that stuff and just disable the registration links and page...

The paypal and 2checkout folders can be wiped out completley either way as you won't be using them at all. , I really need more detailed information to say anything about it.

I would try different methods of calling banners as well to see if that helps., That is by design and how it is designed to function.

There is no easy way to do what you are asking about.

Can it be done ?, sure!!

But it is a lot of custom coding to sort it all out and not something we support.

If I were you I would simply edit the login box screen to show some hyperlinks and options should a person need to use them. , Thanks dude, I'll figure it out. I've been ripping apart pieces of the code to get it. I'm in the process of pulling some things out to make functions that do specific tasks based on your code. Umm, if your using MSACCESS your using MSACCESS

SQL server has nothing to do with it.

That bit about zones makes perfect sense and seems surpassingly simple for me to integrate due to our categories and page contents being based on the same if/then functionality.

Regarding the user, I guess you mean that I could simply recreate a limited admin interface for users based on the interface you have included for me, is that correct? I realize how subjective the question is, but do you think that this would be a bad idea?

I'm leaning toward your software here. I have a budget that could easily cover a variety of programs, but the UI for advertisers at banmanpro, for example, seems far too complicated for my users. Also, banmanpro doesn't have supporting compatible softare I am interested in, such as your classifieds software.

I guess I am trying to buy a good shell from which I can do my own customization and coding, and into which I can integrate future additions such as your classified ads. Does this seem like the right place to be?

I have been working on this all night long. I have been reading every possible article. I have created an ODBC connection on the server.. which i have never done before? Still nothing. I looked at the machine.config file... i read about impersonating whatever the hell that is... I am really stressed out. I have the 1.1 framework installed.

I read about dsn and dsn-less connections. Is there another way i can connect to the database? Without using a username and pw maybe?

If your application can post to the page and provide all the form variables needed to log in it may work out for you..

You'll have to try it out... all the form variables needed are in that login form example.

Basically you'd be posting to a protected (.asp) page..
and providing the following for the most part.. how your app creates it post data is on your end...

As an alternate scenario...

Now, by default the "check_user_inc.asp" file is looking for posted form data... for security reasons it is not looking for querystring info..

If you change this bit of code in that file

from

Username = Replace(Request.Form("Username"),"'","''")
Password = Request.Form("Password")

to

Username = Replace(Request("Username"),"'","''")
Password = Request("Password")

It will then grab either form or querystring data...

Meaning you wouldn't necessary have to create a true post to the page with form data. You could just access the page via a querysting like so

http://www.mysite.com/somepage.asp?Status=Checkem&Userna me=Yourusername&Password=Yourpassword

Of course that introduces security risks as the username and password would be passed in plain text over the net

Another option is...
You can also make a copy of the "check_user_inc.asp" page called whatever with those modifications just to use in pages you need your little application to post to... thus reducing the security concerns a a bit as the rest of yoru site could still have its pages protected under the normal scenario.

Do you have any directions on how to go about moving the install from one server to another? We've sent a couple emails through the site but haven't gotten any responses back.

no, that system only works with ASP.NET code.

Currently it can not possibly work with classic asp.
PayPal made it a nightmare to use and work with.

Special things regarding the signing of digital certificates also need to be installed on the web server so if it isn't your server your also out of luck.

When a new user adds themselves to the db thru the registration page, no user id is assigned in the User_id field. I can't access the page on-line due to an user_id related error on the page. I must use access itself and add the user id. After that, everything works as expected.

What have I done?

so use the connection string the readme.txt in the sql installation folder file tells you to... it has the correct username.. I just posted that info above

or change the username in the connection string so its rigfht

or go into sql and give any user you want access to the database and use them

Any connection strings that come in the datacon_inc.asp file the way it ships are examples. We fully expect people to edit them.

Also.. the SQL scripts primarly goal is give you a properly set up database with correct files and table settings. Users and permissions often need a little extra attention from the installer as that part doesn't always get set right by the scripts It really all depends on what sql user you are when you execute the scripts. Many times the user someone logs in with doesn't have permission to make users and set permissions.

no, you cannot unless you plan to write a lot of custom code.

That is why the option pack has groups which eliminate the need to use access levels because groups can do everything access levels can and more.

I recently upgraded my ASPclassifieds from MS Access to SQL. The application launches, I can browse existing catagories, etc. but when I try clicking on the login, guestbook, register or accessing the classifieds_admin, I get the HTTP 500 - Internal server error. Guessing this must be a folder or file permission issue? Have tried changing IUSR permissions but nothing helps.

Check that the physical path to the database has been specified correctly.
It has to be perfect and correct. It cannot be specified using "http://" or by using "server.mappath".

Only the server admins can do this. If you are not the admin you will have to ask for this to be done.

If you are using a System DSN

It is not set up correctly. Again, make sure the permissions have been set for the database and that the system DSN has been set up correctly by the server admins.

you need to manually compare all those field settings with the sql script and make sure they all got set correctly...

you also need to tell me what email/name you ordered the application under... before I will continue this support with you.. at this point I don't know if you purchased the application or if you are using the unsupported lite version

OK, I figured out the problem. Not running ASP becasue the pages are not saved as ASP but rather HTM... OK so I am smart like a tractor but strong like an ox.

I encountered a problem that I haven't been able to solve. I'm trying to get .pdf files to byte serve (page-by-page load in the browser) but unable to do so. I've narrowed it down to stream download file where it creates the header object. I haven't made any success with the changes I've tried. Any help would be very nice.

there are .asp files in there people can run that you dont want people running..

u should delete the asp files in there or turn off directory listing...

, it might.. I might be wrong though as I guess that could still be an issue with access not being able to keep up.. and then the xml parser just isnt getting the page it is requesting in time, nice. I love learning at least 1 thing every day, After a user edit his information (name, email, etc), the session variables are not updated. In the user_area.asp page, I "Response.Write" all the session variables, and they are still showing the old information. I tried refreshing the page but to no avail. The only way to update the display is to log off and login again.

Trouble shoot e-mail for SAS Architects, Meeting Carol T., mattainacne of DSS system, loading for Syracuse, Worked with Jeff to set up new computer and transfer files , Switching Timecard SQL database from my machine to VENUS and also working with Randy to fix the SQL server after I broke it, Answered billing related calls., Talked to Mike again. Also had to mess with 393-6504 because it was giving fast busies., Jreck's, office, email, voicemail, call backs, Met with Howard Jeff and teleconferenced Kris Allen - worked on Climax circuit., to canton with Jim (jim drove), Researching VB6 code to do progress/status bars in applications., Cleaned, emonitor went red. Lowville 4201 went down. Recieved a few calls for it. Called Ken and he tried to bring back up but could not. He called back and said it was something to do with tel-net., payroll and spreadsheet, Travel to Watertown and attend Mngt Meeting, daily reports, Had food, lunch, fresh air, lunch, Office , Rob Knapp back. Figuring out who's getting what desk. Helping CJW & Steve move upstairs, printing GiSCO stuff, brochures, pc bundle flyers, etc..., helped two users that couldn't surf. reactivated an account. did some radlogs, Installing wireless at the Air Brake, testing forms on WDT and NNYADS web sites..., Building a Linux Development system for Howard complete with X-Windows KDE , lunch, billing issues. sign ups, cancels, invoices., Randy - MBO,
