,

Okay, hopefully I'm posting in the correct area this time.

Currently we are utilizing ASPProtect 7.x

When using the Newsletter function, many members are indicating they are not receiving email.  No evidence of email in SPAM folders.  Also, when checking with email provider, they insist it is not being filtered prior to delivery to member's email address.

The following message does appear when a newsletter is sent.

error '8004020f'

/newsite/ASPprotect/scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp, line 124

Line 124 is the line of code to 'send' the emails.  We have approx. 860 members who are on the list to receive the newsletter emails.  I have no way of knowing how many are not getting the email. Based on anecdotal evidence, I'm guessing it could be as high as 20%.

We are using CDOSYS / SMTP authentication with a real external email with MX records. Our website is hosted by Cbeyond.  They insist it isn't at their end. (for what it's worth)

Thanks for your assistance.

Can we get access to the source project files for ASPProtect.net since we'd like to put in some of our own branding on the pages and not everything can be done in HTML.

Thanks

Hello,

What is the difference between the paypal_sub_signup and the paypal_signup directories?  Also, I know it depends, but what directories and files can I delete from my web server if I am not using them?  I copied the entire set of files that came with the program over to the webserver and I am concerned that there is too much out there.

Jess

cwilliams38446.6304050926,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I was thinking it was an ASP config/install issue.

I usually deal with Linux/PHP, so this is all new to me :)

, ok, well that should not be a problem then.. its meant to be able to be put in a folder like that.. just make sure the folder is not a subweb or anything like that... meaning dont set the folder up to have its own application in IIS. Just use a regular folder of course that is part  of the root iis application.

Perhaps you just didnt edit the paths in the settings like I mentioned.,

Thanks, I really appreciate you working on this. The software works GREAT and the support you give can't be beat. I will definately tell other that are looking for software for their sites to check your first.

one more question.

To use the bulk upload feature of aspuload, do I just need to add another upload section to the same upload page, that will allow more than one file to be selected then tell it to put the files in as Photo 1, 2, 3 etc.? I am a rookie at ASP but I think this is possible and with a little research I should be able to get it going.

Just want to make sure I am on the right track.

Thanks

,

These Settings:

Picture upload feature settings.

Use_Picture_Upload < = value=True name=Use_Picture_Upload> Check this if you will be using the picture uploading feature.
UploadDirectory < size=60 value=C:\Inetpub\virtuals\aspphotogallery.com\Web\demo\pictu res name=UploadDirectory>
Example:  "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ASPPhotoGallery\pictures"
Ask your server admin if you are not sure.
This directory needs proper permissions for the SAFILEUP component or the VBSCRIPT solution to work correctly. It basically needs to same permissions as the database directory would need when using Microsoft Access.
PictureURL < size=60 value=http://www.aspphotogallery.com/demo/pictures name=PictureURL>
Example:  "http://p600laptop/ASPPhotoGallery/pictures"
This is the web URL of the the upload directory specified above.
Use_SAFILEUP_Upload < = value=SAUP name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a component called SAFILEUP which is high end upload component available from www.softartisans.com. It is far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution. It is highly recommended for a busy site.  If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error.
Use_ASPUPLOAD_Upload < = value=ASPUPLOAD name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a component called ASPUPLOAD which is high end upload component available from www.persits.com. It is also far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution. It is highly recommended for a busy site.  If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error.
Use_DUNDAS_Upload < = value=DUNDAS name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a (FREE) component called DUNDAS UPLOAD which is a high end upload component available from www.dundas.com. It is also far superior in performance and reliability compared to the VBSCRIPT file upload solution. It is highly recommended for a busy site.  If you enable this component and do not have it installed on your web server you will cause an error.
Use_VBSCRIPT_Upload < = value= name=Upload_Solution>
This option will enable file uploads using a pure VBSCRIPT solution. It requires VBSCRIPT version 5 or higher to be installed on the server. The solution usually works fine, but has been reported to cause memory leaks on XP machines.
,

Well I have the web hosting tech looking into the memory issues at this point.  Unfortunately I don't have another machine to be able to run the asp on that would run it correctly so that I can just publish it over.

,

This is great documentaion for windows script 5.6
in windows chm file format for jscript and vbscript.

We use server side vbscript in all our our ASP 3.0 applications so this info can be a lot of help.

cwilliams38401.6321990741,

like I said you made changes to something to cause that...

users/user_area.asp

runs fine the way it ships "it is one of things I tested earlier when I looked at your installation for you"

If you want I'll go look via FTP and tell you what is wrong

cwilliams38456.1069212963,

FYI:

The articles you references were read over by me like 3 hours ago... way passed that and prob. in deeper sh*t than i was since im trying everything possible without knowing the true reason this is not working.

,

What about browser caching ? It can happen easily especially if you update pictures over one another.

emtpy out the temp files of ie (take a while usually).. close all ie windows and go back..

Otherwise I need detailed info on the problem. What you told me is not enough to troubleshoot. There are so many factors like what image  image rezie component you are using, the size of the pictures before conversion, server resources, what your doing regarding 3 albums.... etc etc

I have imported 100 pics at a time into an album on a fast server with no issues. Thats using any of the image resizing components.

If an album is new what your describing should never happen. Again, it think what your seeing is browser caching playing tricks on you. We have anticaching things in place so thumbnails never do that but not for the large images.

cwilliams38235.5737615741,

need more info..

are you using aspimage to resize images and make true thumbnails..
(because if you have it turned on and it isnt actually installed on the server you will get broken thumbnails.)

what kind of images are you using ? gif or jpegs

are you uploading images over existing images ?

really need to know exactly what to do to reproduce the situation from scratch and then I can give you a better answer ??

cwilliams38348.7894097222, I have added two users in different group access but none of them can login to the pages , If you makes you feel any better the photo gallery app runs awesome off an access database. Mostly because all of the picture work is done in the filesystem, not the database. The load on the database is relatively low even with a lot of users., Humm, its hard to explain but I am not sure that is a good way to be testing that. I hear what you are saying but I am not sure that really means anything. Whatever is going on its some sort of client side issue with the browser and the meta refreshing over a very long period of time during which there really is no user doing anything at the site. ,

you do not run "check_user_inc.asp" by itself

Pages you protect include that file at the top.. when they someone goes  to a protected page if not logged in a user then sees a login prompt..

after loggin in they see that same page as normal

its an automated process..

now, that being said if you really want to you a specify a page to be redirected to after the 1st login when you edit a users info. You can also redirect anyone anywhere like using a simple ASP redirect statement in your code.

Personally I feel that redirecting people all over the place is poor site design. ASP is all about dynamic code and ASPProtect is all about dynamically tailoring pages to the current logged in users... so why redirect people all over the place.. it justs complicates things because you still need to password protect the places you send them to.... which means twice the work and twice the confusion.

Also, here is a Version 6 thread about redirecting manually that still applies to version 7.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo17-1.htm

, I would like to have the ability to give a user 1 album with the default # of photos in it.

Is the best way to implement this to just add in an album creation routine during the sigup/registration process and turn off the ability to create a new album?  Or is a user setting prebuilt into the system for this?
, Can I copy the file into the export folder and then the import user function?,

I just added this line to the paypal1.asp page

<input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="CAD">

and it worked.  Clearly other values can be entered for other currencies.  Everything was listed in this manual https://www.paypal.com/en_US/pdf/subscriptions.pdf.

Cheers
Roy

Banners no longer show up on my site ?

If banners were working fine and now they are just not showing up.
1st check to see that you are calling a valid zone with live banners in it.
If you are then most likely this it what hapened.

The web server must have crashed or lost power and now the application variables are in limbo/not working.

I have seen this happen 3 times. Twice on my own server when the power went out for 2 hours and once on a customers server.

Basically the application variable system gets all messed up because it was not shut down properlly.

The ways to possibly cure it are as follows.

Edit and save a banner in the system. Hopefully that gets things going again.
If not... keep reading for the more drastic cures..

Go to the command prompt on the server and type "iisreset"
Sometimes that is enough.

Reboot the server.
Sometimes that is enough.

Stop the web in the IIS console.
Sometimes that is enough.

Stop the individual processes for each web in iis
"you must really know what you doing and be very careful about doing this"

Remove and recreate new applications in IIS for the web in question.

And sometimes it just takes a combination of the things listed above and a few reboots. I don't know the best way to cure it but I do know why it happens and the steps listed above can get things back on track.

Again, this is because the server lost power or crashed as far as I know.
It was not allowed to shut down properly which sometimes happens.

You'll know things are ok again when you see your banners show up on your site.

cwilliams38295.0183101852, as an update... it is now possible to use Website Payments Pro  with classic ASP..

However, you basically need to own/run your own server because of certificate signing and special things that must be installed on it. The certificates you have to generate requires your paypal username and password so it's definetly not something hosts are going to do for people.

So... this still isn't plausible at this time..., Its one of the drwbacks of the encyrption.. sometimes.. VERY RARELY  it will produce things that cause a problem and will not work.

It is something I am doing more research on .., gotcha...thanks.Tongue, We would like to give a member an opportunity to upload an image when on their profile page. How does this work with the photo option on the settings page? Is this the intended usage? Thank You. ,

Sounds great, Sold!

Thanks Christopher!

,

I am up to speed on how it works. My goal was to not have just a link to a protected page- so that when a user clicks it they get the "access denied" screen and then have to log in. My goal was to avoid that if possible by having them log in and then redirected to the protected page.

So this isnt possible? The only way for it to work is for a user to click a link to the protected page, get the denied screen, then login and be redirected?

Or is there another way..?

I made my point by rebuttling your "cafepress" with agreeing "YES" that is what i want... now you are changing this around on me. I dont think i can be ANY clearer in what i intend to do. It is extremely clear and i am not sure why its becoming more than it should be. I just want the user to be able to log in from ANY PAGE ON THE WEBSITE AND THEN BE REDIRECTED TO THE PROTECTED PAGE IF THE HAVE THE PROPER CREDENTIALS. It would be nice if this software gave an error message when an incorrect username/password was entered instead of simply refreshing the screen.

ASPProtect v7.x runs on Microsoft IIS servers only.
That means Windows XP Pro, Windows 2000 server and Windows 2003 server. The web server must have ASP support enabled and support Data Connections. 99% of them do as it's a pretty normal thing, but you should ask and make sure your hosting plan supports it.

ASPProtect can use a Microsoft Access Database or Microsoft SQL Server as it's data source.  We provide the access databases and everything you need to create the SQL database, however customer's using Microsoft SQL Server are required to have SQL Enterprise Manager and SQL Query Analyzer in order to setup and maintain the SQL database. Other scenarios are possible but we do not support them.

ASPProtect v7.supports 13 different emailing methods and components so chances are you will have no problem finding one that will work for you.

CDONTS
CDOSYS
ASPEMAIL
ASPMAIL
ASPSMARTMAIL
DUNDASMAILER
JMAIL
SASMTPMAIL
Bamboo Mail
Simple Mail
ASPQMail
QuickSoft EasyMail Objects
OCXMail

We extensivley support all implemenations of CDOSYS which is installed on all the servers by default. We also support outgoing SMTP authentication requirements. If you can not send emails from the application using one of our 13 methods and you have an ASP solution that can send an email on your server we will work with you to make sure the application can send emails.

FINALLY

ASPProtect v7.x does not run under Chillisoft ASP. That means it does not run under Unix, Linux, Apache, etc etc. ASPProtect v7.x can not use a MySQL database. MySQL and Microsoft SQL are not the same thing.

If you are wondering if your web server runs Windows or Linux you can try using the header check here.
http://www.port80software.com/support/p80tools

Be warned however it will not always be accurate because some people cloak that information or show something different than what they are running to trick potential hackers. With commerical hosting though the the header information is usually accurate.
,

Ok i am having an issue with my other comp. I have spent ANOTHER 3 hours researching this one.... it WONT START THE IIS SERVICE!!!

I get this error:

The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

ANYWAY---

I decided to use one of my client's hosts; which happens to be Network Solutions.

ANYWAY again-

I uploaded the whole thing there and they advised me they cannot do the explicit permissions on that _database folder. This is what they said: I would also would like to point out that ASP.NET applications and permissions do not extend to any other folder, other than the root, (/htdocs/), and the bin, (/htdocs/bin/) folders.  Sub-directories and folder after bin and htdocs will not have ASP.NET permission (read or write).

If you could move or reconfigure your application to save all your code behind, include and dll files onto the root or bin folder, your application could work or possibly run as you would expect.  Please have this done and retest your application. If and when you get a different problem or another error after doing so, please let us know, and we shall be happy to help you troubleshoot any problems that you may have.

There is a 'create database option'  where i can create a database..create a dsnname, user name, password and have to specify the database file name. Once i do this i need to place the database file (aspprotectnet2002.mdb) in the /db folder within the root. I also tried this and made the appropriate change in the web.config but it STILL DOES NOT WORK. I AM PULLING MY HAIROUT WHY WONT ANYTHING WORK.

ALL THE FILES ON ON THE ROOT OF THE WEB HOST. I PULLED THE FILES OUT OF THE _DATABASE FOLDER AND DUMPED THEM ON THE ROOT. I CHANGED THAT ON THE WEB.CONFIG BUT ITS STILL LOOKING FOR SOME .XML FILE IN THAT _DATABASE FOLDER.

I'VE BEEN TRYING EVERYTHING AND IT SEEMS THAT I CANT USE THIS SOFTWARE FOR THE LIFE OF ME

,

I want to try this on the machine im using now; which is windows XP.

Is this possible? I don't think i can set folder permissions on XP... there is no option to do so...

Is there a way to do it?

,

The login page sends the user to redirect.asp (which is as follows)

<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->

<%
If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*1*") Then
    Response.Redirect("gp01.asp")
End If
%>

<%
If InStr(Session("Groups"),"*2*") Then
    Response.Redirect("gp02.asp")
End If
%>

I am not being redirected to gp02.asp if I am a member of group2.  Also, we wish users who are part of group 2 and 3 to go to a different page (ie. gp2-3.asp)

Thanks in advance.

, The webpage header for CJWSoft  states "Web Development for Win NT/2000 servers" - a little dated cause it works just fine on 2003 too, right? :), Has this been resolved ?, Well, hold everything.

Looks like I did it right. The latest user showed up in the correct group.

I guess the ASP pages had to refresh at the server or something...

It's still a great product, BTW. Almost five years for my enjoyable ride with ASPProtect!
,

Yes, thats cool.. post it here for sure.

Also, the way you allowed for your search engine is clever and probably was the easiest way to go.

You could do the same thing with the IP. Much easieri than the way I was thinking of doing it.

,

If you are using version 6 CDOSYS is not supported. That is one reason why version 7 came out. If you want to rewrite the code to work with CDOSYS in version 6 that is something you need to sort out on your own as I do not support custimization to the code.

,

not really, aside from looking in paypal and manually adding each one for each user...

how many users are we talking about anyway ?

and were any of the users new sign ups from scratch because if they were and that field didnt get populated that is weird?

ultimately aspprotect does not use that field. I was just storing it for the sake of storing it... so its not a big deal but I would still like to figure out what is going on

removing the expiration dates from paypal subscripbers will be enough to fix the issue your having about them getting the expiration notifications

,

Just to put an end to this thread here is the solution for anyone reading.

The permissions were ok.

The data connection string never got edited in the "dataconn_inc.asp" file so it was invalid the whole time.

Once that was corrected the application ran.

So really this whole thread was over not following the directions and not editing the data connection string...

, no worries from me.  As with most software projects, i tweak the heck out of them and then have to make a big decision about whether or not i even want/need to upgrade.
