You are right.
I have SQL server.
From August to today I have used a very simple login system and now I come back to you for better.
I can insert, edit, delete users but it happens what I mentioned in my first message.
, Thanks Chris.
Your solution worked! ,
SQL server hotel ehh ? Humm that sounds bad whatever that is ?
Is that a real term or just something you named it cause they have like a zillion people using that SQL server? I have never heard of that name ?, it might.. I might be wrong though as I guess that could still be an issue with access not being able to keep up.. and then the xml parser just isnt getting the page it is requesting in time, yes, PM me the encryption and cookie keys if you don't mind. I can add it to my combinations that cause trouble.
it might help me to figure this problem out. , that really does not make any sense...
I dont know what else to tell you as this really shouldn't be anything too difficult to sort out...
redirection based on criteria is not something aspprotect does by default... I try to help a bit... I've shown everyone how to do it in this thread...I know plenty of people doing it... I've done it myself... I know it works
let me ask you this... are you using ASPProtect 6 with the Option Pack ? I assume you must be or you would not have the Groups feature ? And you asked this question in the ASPProtect 6 section.
but then maybe your using 7.. I do not know
this should all work the same either way , Has any one used the aspmail function to send emails from within your site? If so what did you use as the AspMail_Host string in the connections database?
thank you , Ok, have contacted the web hosts. Thank you for your help so far
Regards
Andy
,
I can no longer send e-mails to my configured accounts through aspbanner. It was working for over a year and now it stopped.
At one point I was using CDONTS_Installed but since I moved to a new Windows 2003 server I was told by my ISP that either one of these will work
but neither one works. Can some one assist?
JMAIL_Installed
ASPEMAIL_Installed , It is not something I did when I wrote the emailing sub routines. You would have to edit the email sub routine for CDONTS and add something to it most likely. The email sub routines are in the "scripts" folder in the "emailing_subs_inc.asp" file.
I am not sure you can do that when using CDONTS though I think you can do it with CDOSYS. You would have to do some research and edit the code like I mentioned. , site looks fine in ie and also firefox from a windows machine..
I dont have a mac and I have not heard of that browser before
Sounds like an issue with the way that browser handles and puts together html/flash in relation to the layout of your site which is fairly complex
less likely - could also be related to computer processor/resources as that is a decent sized flash file and could bog down certain machines on the client level.. internet connection as well ?
those are my guesses.. I dont see anything wrong from windows xp web browsing from a fast machine and on broadband.. looks pretty nice actually , Tell tell me some info about your install?
How am I supposed to know what is going on when you are not showing me what you have in your web config file and also the directory structure of the install or what you are putting in a page you are trying to protect ? It almost sounds like you are not editing the paths correctly in the various places. I mean yes you told me something about the "map" folder but what I saying is tell me more detail.
BTW: this is a very important setting in the web.config file and must be edited accordingly so the path is right.
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />
Basically your showing me random errors and posts left and right and I honestly have no idea what your doing ?
Ulitmately though I am trying to help you in this situation like the web site says.
We offer tech support for installation of the base application purchased in it's native form. In some cases in order to receive proper tech support your application will be need to be installed on a live server on the Internet. We simply cannot troubleshoot all issues when the application is only installed on your local machine.
Meaning I am not going to keep this up if you keep asking question after question after question regardign your local XP Pro installation. There is only so much I can assume or guess when you are running this on a local development server. I know you got all sorts of problems getting a decent live server to run this on but that just isn't my problem. Get this up and running on a professionaly and correctly setup live server and when these random configuration errors pop up atl least I can go run the pages and look at them. Right now I am just confused by nearly everything you have posted today. Half of looks like basic ASP.NET path issues that you need to sort of on your own based on where you installed the application on the machine and what you have in the web.config file.. etc etc etc
It is sounding more and more like ASP.NET is way over your head. If you want a copy of the classic ASP version of ASPProtect you are welcome to it. I think you will be a lotter better off sticking to classic ASP unless you really start reading up on ASP.NET and learning more about how forms based authentication and the web.config file work. , It almost seems like allow images is denied. When I look at the ad it doesn't even show a place where the thumbnail or image would go:
Columns now are Ad Name/ Price / Expires / Hits
There used to be one before Ad Name.
Even unchecked (saved) and checked
Use_Picture_Upload |
< = value=True name=Use_Picture_Upload> Check this if you will be using the picture uploading feature. |
, Chris-
A general question - Can you have multiple instance of the gallery on the same server? , Hey, I thought I'd share this tip with the ASPProtect community...
If you'd like to remove, modify, or add fields to the "Users" view in
the password_admin default.asp page, it's really easy to do. Well, at
least it was for me. I'm using an MS Access database, by the way.
For me, I don't need "Company" info, but I do need last access and # of
times accessed displayed. Therefore, I had to change the default page
in three areas:
In /password_admin/default.asp, go to about line 185 or so, where you see stuff like:
[code]<td valign="bottom"><font face="Arial" color="#000000"
size
="2"><b>First Name& lt;/b> </font></td> [/code]
OK, those are the column headings. Each one corresponds to a column
from your USERS table in your database. There are two more areas to
consider, both of which appear immediately after this section.
The next section has statements that look like this:
[code]<td valign="bottom"><a href="<% =THISPAGE
%>?SORTBY=First_Name+ASC&MyPageSize=<% =MyPageSize
%>&Keyword=<% =Server.URLEncode(Keyword)%>"><img
border="0" src="../images/sort_ascending.gif" Alt="Sort
Ascending"></a><a href="<% =THISPAGE
%>?SORTBY=First_Name+DESC&MyPageSize=<% =MyPageSize
%>&Keyword=<% =Server.URLEncode(Keyword)%>"><img
border="0" src="../images/sort_descending.gif" Alt="Sort
Descending"></a></td>[/code]
See the "First_Name" items? The first is for an ascending sort, the
second for a descending. This particular line corresponds to the code
snippet immediately above it. But all this does is handle the sorting.
For the actual data, look lower for this stuff:
[code] <td bgcolor="<% = Cellbgcolor
%>"><font face="Arial" size="1"> <%=
CmdListUsers("First_Name")
%& gt; </font></td> [/code]
It's a good ways down, so don't be impatient if you don't see it in 10
lines from the end of the last mentioned section. This stuff handles
the display of the data from the database (where else ya gonna get
data, anyway?)...
Now, to remove a field, you need to find the three sets that go with
that data. The ascending/descending sort is potentially the trickiest,
because it's the longest set of data and can take a number of lines.
Just clear it from the start td to the end /td and you'll be fine.
To *add* a field, copy and paste the code from an existing field and
modify it. In the first one, the column title, you can type whatever
you want to describe your info. Nobody but you and your admins will see
it. For the next two sections, though, you need to get the correct
column heading from the USERS table and use that to correct the lines
in the copied code you pasted in.
For example, when I added a column to show the number of times a user
logged in, I copied the above snippets and pasted them in where I felt
the column I needed should be. Then, in the first one, I changed "First
Name" to "Logins". In the ascending/descending snippet, I changed
First_Name to Counter. Same for the last snippet.
The result? A new column, showing the number of logins my users were successful with.
Of course, before you experiment, back up your existing default.asp file, JUST IN CASE.
Have fun!
, Awesome -thanks - I'll give it a try , If you run asplistings auto in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.
And you run your other version of ASPListiings in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.
You will have zero major changes to make to anything... other than what you did above..
But remember theyare the same app and share a lot of thing including sessions and application variables.. that is why if they are installed in the same domain each one needs its own application set in the IIS console so they run seperately of one another. cwilliams38312.5189814815, You edit the web.config file that came with ASPProtect.NET.
You find this tag
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" />
you change it to this
<customErrors mode="Off" />
If you have a different web.config file in your root I suggest you make sure the tag is set to off there as well for troubleshooting sake
If done correctly you will get a detailed error It's basic low level ASP.NET stuff really and does not have anything specific to do with ASPProtect.NET.
You also need to make sure your web is set up correctly for ASP.NET and that the correct web.config's are firing..etc etc
cwilliams38454.4368055556, Your going to have a lot of problems and a lot of the code will have to be re-written.
There are a lot of things in the the code that the MYSQL database system does not support or has issues with . I know because I once made a version of ASPBanner work with MYSQL and it took weeks of work to get it stable.
Null field types can cause problems... but mostly ADO updates which I don't think MYSQL supports at all. All of the ADO stuff would have have to be rewritten.. etc etc
That's probably why you cant get much of the code to write to the database.
Here is a generic example.
An update to an existing record using ADO http://www.powerasp.com/content/database/ado_update.asp
And update to an existing record using an update query. http://www.powerasp.com/content/database/using_update.asp
All through the the code the ADO updates would have to converted to update queries which means a lot of work.
I used ADO a lot because I like it and it is little easier to validate data before it is written to the database.
It is also a little easier for customers to understand when they look at the code.
Anyway....
The app just was not designed to work with MYSQL. It was specifically designed to work with MSSQL and MSACCESS only.
This holds true for all of our applications.
Your running off an IIS 5 Server so I would suggest just using MSACCESS as the database. The Photo Gallery app will run very well using MSACCESS. , I agree -- don't use the code as is. I provided it only as an idea for a work-around if your ASPProtect users with Internet Explorer complain about the Page Expired message.
I did not test it to be sure the parms coming into the target page (which would be part of the URL when bookmarking) are properly preserved. It would be easy to make sure they are preserved, but I am not sure the code in the example does that. I also customized the code with my own page header and footer.
I have the Option Pack but the site does not need it yet so I haven't applied it. I don't expect many problems re-applying my few lines of modifications.
The IE behavior is not a big deal if you provide an explicit login page, since users would have less interest in paging back to that. In my case, I simply gave a link to a protected part of the site, and when they take that link, they instead get the login form if they aren't logged on. Once they log on, they get their desired content page, to which they sometimes want to page back later on.
From searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base and other sources, I could not find a way (using HTML) to turn off IE's behavior of refusing to quietly reload a page containing form data. Netscape does not do this. So my IE workaround is to ensure my target page does not contain the login form. It does not solve the cause of the problem, but in this case it gets rid of the Page Expired error message for my IE users.
I also purchased ASPProtect for another site, and I'm using that "out of the box" unmodified. I'm very pleased with ASPProtect's functionality and the fact that it works completely without the need to customize. However, I've found it is very easy to customize if I want to.
Jim
Puli Club of America , Well, thats not normal. (it should work just like our online demo does)
Do you have everything turned on in the settings ?
Uploading needs to be enabled and you also have to pick a valid upload method. , I didn't think that was it, but just to prove, I just viewed the same album from 2 different IP's. It did not increment the "hits". , ok,
ASPProtect v7.x runs on Microsoft IIS servers only. That means Windows XP Pro, Windows 2000 server and Windows 2003 server. The web server must have ASP support enabled and support Data Connections. 99% of them do as it's a pretty normal thing, but you should ask and make sure your hosting plan supports it.
Before you even start please read this thread and do what it says. If any errors show up it is important you see the real error instead of a useless HTTP 500 internal server error. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11& PN=1
Once doing that make sure to use Internet Explorer as you follow along with these directions.
Now, unzip your installation zip file that you downloaded from CJWSoft. Use a program like winzip and be sure you have it set up to unzip the directories as well. You can also use windows xp's built in folder compression tools to unzip the archive.
When you unzip the application you should have all of the following folders and files. (more or less, it depends on the version)

Now, you can copy all of these files into the root of your website or if you like you can make a folder called "aspprotect" and put all of these folders and files in that folder. Either way it really does not matter.
Now, contact your web hosting company and instruct them that you need permissions set on the data folder that you copied into your website. This folder and all of its child folders need modify permissions set on it for the anonymous webserver account. It is very important that they set the permissions correctly and on all the child folders as well.
Here are some threads on exactly how these permissions are set. If you run your own server or are developing locally you can do this yourself. If not most likely you need to put in a request to your hosting company as you CAN NOT set these permissions via Frontpage or FTP.
Windows 2003 Server and permissions http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=136& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1
Windows XP Pro and permissions http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=56& PN=1
Once permissions are set.. run this page via your web browser
http://www.mysite.com/data/setup_info.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
When this page is run it will report back a screen like so:

Now, take the connection string info it shows you. Edit the "dataconn_inc.asp" file in the root of the ASPProtect system and use that data connection information. It should be valid for the server.
If you are using MSSQL server instead of Access please see the SQL database creation directions as you will need to create the MSSQL database and use a special connection string for that. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=160& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1
Now, take the CookieEncryptionKey and PasswordEncryptionKey info that it gives you and enter it into the "config_inc.asp" file in the root of the ASPProtect system. These will be the unique keys that your encryption will be based off of.
Ok...
The files have been copied to your website, the permissions are set on the data folder, and the database connection is ready.
Now.. run this page
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/get_me_in.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
This is a special page we use to get into the system for the 1st time.
If you get a nasty error when you run that page similar to this.
Error Type: Active Server Pages, ASP 0131 (0x80004005) The Include file '../dataconn_inc.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.
Then parent paths are disabled on the webserver and you need to do an extra step to deal with that. Follow this link. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=162& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1&TPN=1
If you get any other variery of "80004005" error then there is a problem with your data connection. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=27& PN=1
Those errors are usualy related to database folder permissions or an imcorrect physical path to the database file specified though they can mean a lot of things.
Once you get the page running you will see a login prompt and one form field
You will need to paste the "PasswordEncryptionKey" value that you used in the "config_inc.asp" file in the form field and hit enter.
If all goes well you will see the admin area of ASPProtect.
Now that you are in the system you need to create an admin account.
Click on "ADD NEW USER".. fill out the info and add a user. You really only need to fill out (first name, last name, email, username, and password)
Now save that user.
You should see a new user listed in the admin area. Click on Edit user to the left of the new account. On the edit screen check the "admin" checkbox and save the user.
You just created an Admin account.
Now click on the "log off" button on the top menu and click yes to log off.
Now close the browser. Then run this URL
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/default.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
You should now be able to in to the admin area of the system using the new admin account you created.
You are now ready to go to the settings page so click on the settings tab in the menu. There are a lot of options and paths that need to be set on this page. Every setting is described in detail on this page. You need to go through the page and set things up properly. Anytime the page asks for a path to a url or file the page will auto generate what should be the path to use. (expected path) If your server has parent paths disabled a few of those auto generated paths will not show up. If that is the case run this url from your server and it should tell you the paths to use for those settings.
http://www.mysite.com/data/expected_paths.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
Once your all done and the system seems to be running fine you should go back and delete the following pages as they are no longer needed and pose a potential security risk.
http://www.mysite.com/data/setup_info.asp http://www.mysite.com/data/expected_paths.asp http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/get_me_in.asp
You should back up the original zip archive you got from CJWSoft in case you ever need those files again.
VERY IMPORTANT: The user passwords from now on will be encrypted using the "PasswordEncryptionKey" you specified in the "config_inc.asp" file.
If you ever change that key all of your passwords will be invalid and you can not get them back unless you know the key and put it back, so plan on never changing that key unless you really know what your doing and know how to decrypt/re-encrypt the passwords using a new key. (something we do not cover at the moment but probably will when we have time to make a tutorial) , Is there a way to know if it is a SQL server with IIS5? My database type is MSACCESS.
Thanks! Rhona (rookie) , sorry.. you just said above you were using XP SP2 so that is the article I referred you to as I just assumed you were talking about your local web server
here is my article on permissions regarding server 2003 http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp
I can look at your installation monday if you like. In about an hour I leave for a wedding thingie and I wont be around again untill monday around noon
Try the uploading using VBSCRIPT method just for the heck of it. Perhaps there is an issue with the installation of the dundas component.
CJW
, When I attempt to upload, it appears that the image uploads. I get a "Original Image Size 0 X 0 pixels"

they don't appear in the web pages, any thoughts? I am using VBscript to upload, my host has safileup but I am unable to use it in this script, thanks for any help
http://mcintoshcounty.org/real_estate/extras/server_info.asp
here's the site link
Never mind, had the path to the image folder screwed up , Our login works great, variables even help determine menu options. When user logs on, however, it opens in a new page. Is there a setting somewhere that sets whether you can open in a new or existing page?
Also, when you log off , This user has notified me that the issue has been resolved based on what I told him., People who have the option pack have a new feature called groups.
Groups are meant as a replacement for using the access levels as they are much more powerful. Support for pages protected using access levels is left in tact for backward compatiability for a customers older protection code.
A customer recently told me groups could not be used like access levels and that 8 access levels was not enough. This is how I explained that groups can do everything access levels can do.
Groups can honestly do everything access levels can do if you really think about it. Using groups and protecting pages accordingly you could actually create a system that basically worked identically to the way the access levels works.
For example..
You make 8 groups and assign users to them accordingly
Protection code on page allows access to groups 1-8 The aspprotect system generates this code for you…
<% GROUPACCESS = "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
In this case a user assigned to any one of those groups would have access..
Protection code on page allows access to groups 2-8 The aspprotect system generates this code for you…
<% GROUPACCESS = "2,3,4,5,6,7,8" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
In this case a user assigned to any group between 2-8 would have access..
Protection code on page allows access to groups 3-8 The aspprotect system generates this code for you…
<% GROUPACCESS = "3,4,5,6,7,8" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
In this case a user assigned to any group between 3-8 would have access.. cwilliams38114.800775463, That's because when the page rebuilds, it uses the default number of
users per page setting. You'd have to modify that default setting to
have it do things differently. I used to have mine set to 500
users, until I got past 300... then it wasn't fun to show all users on
the page anymore. I now like 10 per page and searching for
specific users as needed.
But that's me. If you hack a COPY of your default.asp file (with the
original backed up as above), you can get the value set to one you
prefer.
If you want me to find the value, post and I'll look for it later on.
If you want to find it yourself, happy hunting! Just be sure to have a
backup in case you do the wrongest thing possible in your haxxoring.
, It should be released sometime late May 2004 or early June 2004 but no gurantees as I am pretty busy right now with some projects.
There will be upgrade instructions and it should be a fairly easy upgrade. , Yes worked fine
thanks , humm, I see your using the lite version which is technically not supported.
I know you were responding to an existing thread but I really would rather you have posted this in the ASPProtect Lite area or at least mentioned what version you are using. Usually there are big differences in the versions and it helps me help you if I know what is going on.
Regardless, the code for this feature is actually the same and I just tested a fresh install of the lite version and it stored that verify url perfectly and all worked as it should in the verification email.
All I can think of is that you can try manually editing the "users/add_new_account.asp" file.
This part
EmailBody = EmailBody & "New Registration.." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "Your registration still has to be validated." & vbCrLf & "Go to " & vbCrLf & VerifyURL & "?u=" & Server.URLEncode(Request("Username")) & "&v=" & ValidateEmailCode & vbCrLf & "to verify your registration." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf
Would need your verify URL hardcoded into it which would pretty much guarantee it would get put in the email.
EmailBody = EmailBody & "New Registration.." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "Your registration still has to be validated." & "http://localhost/aspprotectlite/users/v.asp" & "Go to " & vbCrLf & VerifyURL & "?u=" & Server.URLEncode(Request("Username")) & "&v=" & ValidateEmailCode & vbCrLf & "to verify your registration." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf
Of course change the url to be valid for your setup.
Still, the fact that this isn't working means there is something wrong with your installation. It would probably be a good idea to erase everything, do an iisreset, and re-install the application in a different directory... immediatly log and go to the settings page, carefully set everything and save it... then register as a new user and see what happens.
There is no reason that variable shouldn't get set. I mean I tested it just now with a fresh install of the version you are using and not only that... 1000's of people have been using that same code for over a year in the full version and no one has had this problem except the guy who started this thread who never populated the value.
My guess is still a problem with your "IIS application" for that web. It is not doing it's thing for some reason. When the settings page is saved and application variable gets set telling the config file to reload the variables as it doesn't do it every time to conserve resources.
If that isn't getting triggered and that variable isn't getting set who knows what else isn't getting set and it's not pratical going around hardcoding 15 important variables., This is great documentaion for windows script 5.6 in windows chm file format for jscript and vbscript.
We use server side vbscript in all our our ASP 3.0 applications so this info can be a lot of help.
2005-02-18_150921_vbscript_docs.zip
cwilliams38401.6321990741, I did a google search and it turns out that error very well might have to do with ASP trying to send an email and that process failing.
That tells me your emailing from the application is not working so it is probably not something you edited incorrectly.
see this article...
80040211 http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2026
Emailing was working as when I did your installation (I think I did it months ago, didn't I) so it must be some incorrect changes to your email settings in the admin settings screen. Try sending an individual email to a user from the admin users screen and see if it works. My guess is you will get the same error and means your email sending options are no longer correct or valid.
If that is the case I would ask you if you changed them or possibly something changed as far as your email setup goes. Passwords ? EMail Server .. etc etc etc , I have seen that happen before though it usually just happens once and then after that it doesn;t show up. It's the asphttp component doing it. The ASPBanner system is not doing it. I would try using banner calling method such as the xml parser method. It's usually installed by default on 200 and 2003 servers. cwilliams38248.6400115741, Our home page is not showing up gives this error:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'
Include file not found
/Default.asp, line 246
The include file 'elib/articles/home_feature1.asp' was not found. , Sounds to me like you got some bad databases or something. Or your trying to open a database with too old of a version of msaccess.. not sure
Everything is stored in one database. And yes there is more than just the users table.
Also, removing the "temp" password should be a piece of cake.
Email me for a new copy of the download file ? Use the contact from on the cjwsoft site. Please tell me your order details as well so I know who you are.
, Yes, you are right.
We have now tested it using the DSN less connection with Access 2002 and it works fine. We have also tested it again with a DSN using 2002 and this also seems to work.
The comment about speed is a consideration although I have not noticed any differences. ( we only have a few database entries at this time).
Thanks for your help ,
