Now, we can connect to the MySQL database with ASPBanner using the following connection string if we like.
"driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};server=localhost;port=3306;uid=root;pwd=temp;databas e=aspbanner;option=16386"
But we really do not want to connect to the aspbanner MySQL database using the "root" account
So, lets make an account to use..
In MySQL Administrator select "User Administration"
Down below you will see the user "root"
Right click on "root" and select "Add new user"

Type in a New MySQL Username and Password
I am going to call my new user "aspbanneruser"
Hit the Schema Privileges" tab

In this case since I am using the root account to manage my MySQL system I am just going to give this new user account what it needs to use the aspbanner database.. you may want to apply more permissions to the new account, that is up to you.. I am giving the new user (select, insert, update, delete, execute) So I right click on the aspbanner and then bring over the permissions I need for it.. and hit apply changes down in the bottom right.
We can now connect to the aspbanner MySQL database using this new account like so.
"driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};server=localhost;port=3306;uid=aspbanneruser;pwd=tem p;databas e=aspbanner;option=16386"
------------------------------------------------------------ ----- article still in the process of being written (3/14/06) , I tried the iFrame method that you have shown, and it works great!!!!,
I did a sign up.. your verify URL is not saved/set in the application variables.
try saving the admin settings page again.. or reboot the server so the settings get reloaded
if you can make sure the web is it's own application in IIS
if it is your server do and "iisreset" from the command prompt
if all else fails you got iis application issues with the site... wait till tommoro to see if the setting gets loaded , Once you have the LANGUAGE = VBSCRIPT and Checkfor = 1 on your page,
you'll have it secured. I've got over 1600 pages secured in such a
manner, thanks to ASPProtect!
, Have SQL 2000 backend... We just moved from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003, used import data routine in SQL to move data.
Logged into admin area. When adding new user, no record is created. However, editing record works just fine.
Any ideas would be appreciated. , check permissions for the user you are connecting to the SQL database. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo122-1.htm
That user may not have permission to make new data
Also, check all field and table settings manually by comparing them to the SQL creation script we provide. You may very well be missing auto increment and primary keys which would make adding new data not work.
It is most likely one of those two things. , Kurt,
There really is no default width in general.
The thing to remember is that the default.asp page includes a lot of different pages.. and some of those pages also include pages.
Now all of this gets wrapped by the header and footer include files so in a sense what you do there can effect everything inside to a certain degree.
Now there are some widths set here and there for different tables and what not on certain pages, but its really the kind of situation where you just have to dig around in the code and experiment until you eventualy find what you are looking for and get the desired result.
I'd love to tell you there is easy way to just set a width, but it is not that simple.
Maybe someday it will be. Just not in the current version.
CJW , It's just a generic error that means one of 1000 different things is wrong.. there is a lot of information on in in these forums as well as links to articles about it.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=27& PN=1
usually it means permissions to the database folder are incorrect or the physical path you are specifying for your dsn-less connection is invalid..
everything has to be perfect
cwilliams38370.5271296296, that is because passwords in the import/export files are encrypted.. if you make one of your own you need to use the rc4 function in the "config_inc.asp" to encrpyt your passwords just like the aspprotect system does (requires knowledge of vbscript and integration into your export system)
now, there is a way around this
if you want to import a file you made with clear text passwords edit "import.asp" beforehand and change
If UserArray2(5) <> "" Then CmdAddUsers.Fields("Password") = UserArray2(5)
to
If UserArray2(5) <> "" Then CmdAddUsers.Fields("Password") = RC4(UserArray2(5), PasswordEncryptionKey)
that way it should convert your clear text passwords to encrypted while it does the import
this post also addresses this but in the reverse scenario http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=261&PN =1&TPN=1
I hope this helps you because I really do have to leave the office like right now. Very late for a dinner meeting.
I should be back on the computer later tonight or tommoro morning , The version of aspbanner you have should not matter.
What you are doing here is wrong.
<PARAM NAME=movie VALUE=" http://www.innovationtools.com/aspbanner/aspbanner/banner_re direct.asp?Banner_ID=25">
PARAM NAME=movie is supposed to link to your ".swf" file. And thats why all you see is black.
I don't think you quite understood all of that information fully.
Your ".swf" files needs to be coded in FLASH to link to the aspbanner redirect url. You don't change that flash calling code like that.
The ".swf" file links to the aspbanner redirect url which tracks the click and then redirects the user to the Link URL
You basically need to code your ".swf" flash file to go to that aspbanner URL or code your flash file so it can take a parameter for the url it clicks to (like the macromedia article talks about. This has to be done when editing the flash file in the flash editor before the file is saved.
If you dont have access to the original ".swf" to edit it and re-save it.. your out of luck as far as tracking clicks goes , IMPORTANT UPDATE - READ THIS http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=205& ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1
The 2Checkout Support Pack which is built in to ASPProtect 7 contains all the pre-built scripts you need to implement 2Checkout Payments with ASPProtect. You must be using version 2 of the 2checkout system. They are phasing out version 1 regardless so everyone will be using version 2 very soon if they are not already.
THIS IS NOT INTENDED OR DESIGNED TO USE 2CHECKOUT SUBSCRIPTIONS. (see bottom of this thread for more info on that)
This Support Pack basically gives you an additional signup and registration directory "2checkout_signup" and it should not interfere with any changes or customizations you have made to your ASPProtect setup in general. New users can register in this directory and pay for membership at the same time. Existing users whether active or expired can be sent to this directory where they can lookup their account and buy additional membership time online. You can also assign various Access and Group Levels during signup and you can set up various prices for various amounts of time as well. This is a real-time setup for the most part. As soon as a user pays via 2Checkout your system is updated and they will have access.
The 2checkout pack is NEW.. and was released on March 19, 2005. If you don't have it and would like it please just ask.
To start using this edit the "2checkout_signup/2checkout_config_inc.asp" file
You will be entering your 2Checkout Account number in that file as well as the URL you want a user to go to after payment. It is all commented in that file. (There is also a testing variable you can set to True if you want to do testing without real charges being applied)
After editing that file run this page.
http://www.mysite.com/2checkout_signup/show_postback_path.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
It will report back that postback url you need to use in the 2checkout system.
Log into your 2checkout version 2 account and under the "look & feel section" enter that postback url for both the "Approved URL" and the "Pending URL"
Trust me: You want the URL there for a pending URL because the 2Checkout system is quite random and 95% of the payments that come in go to the pending URL and end up being legitimate sales. (at least for me they do)
Now make sure the Direct Return option on that page is on as well.
If set to Yes buyers will be immediately directed to your URLs below once they click the Complete Order button. If set to No the buyers will have to click a button to return to your URLs below. |
>> |
Save that page... and leave 2checkout.
| Now, delete this page from your ASPProtect setup. http://www.mysite.com/2checkout_signup/show_postback_path.asp
It's a minor security risk and is no longer needed needed.
The basic setup is finished. All you have to now is set up payments options the way you want them.
Changing Payment Options
In the "2checkout1.asp" file there are form options set up.
They look like this and you can have as many as you like.
<option selected value="30,9.95,3,">30 Days, 9.95</option>
In this option... A user has the option to purchase 30 days for $9.95 and he will be set to Access Level 3 when payment in completed.
Here is how it works.
The value setting (red) is essentially and array that can be made up 4 elements separated by comma's They must be separated by a comma and there can be no spaces. In this example the 4th value was not used but the last comma must still be there. If you didn't want to set an access level and left out the "3" there would 2 commas at the end. etc etc Basically there must always be 3 commas but you only have to set the 1st 2 values which are days and price.
days,price,access level,groups
The 1st value is the amount of days. The 2nd value is the price for the amount of days. The 3rd value is the access level you want to user assigned to. The 4th option is the groups you want the user assigned to. (see PayPal subscription thread for examples of specifying group info)
Now, the label for the option in (blue) can say whatever you like. , it is by design actually and something that can be improved (I just never thought of it when I 1st designed the system and it is actually planned to be added in Version 8)
The trick would be to reset those session variables anytime someone edits and saves their information... not very hard at all
you would do it on the save code page for when a user edits themself. you want to grab the info posted from the form and reset each session variable at the same time everything is re-saved to the database
example
Session("Company_Name") = Request("Company_Name")
, Making progress. I have made the appropriate settings and now I have the option to upload. When I upload, I get the following message:
"Your upload did not succeed, most likely because your browser does not support Upload via this mechanism.
Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"
I am using IE6 XP SP2. I also am using DUNDAS UPLOAD, ASPIMAGE.
I think I set permissions correctly bot not positive. I have given all auth to everyone for the database etc. , again.. more custom code work would be required to handle it
, You can not edit that code with dreamweaver. It will re-arrange the asp and kill it. If you want to change the look of the login html you have to edit the html by hand in a text editor.
Or create what you want on a blank page using your editor of choice and carefully use parts of that in the ASPProtect code.
In version 7 the login screen is one asp page by itself and is much easier to edit with just about any editor. In version 6 you have to know your html and be careful.
Either way I am not sure templates are a good idea for something like that. That sort of thing tends to cause problems with dynamic code that executes under different directory levels. You want to stick to regular html techniques. , Hi,
Sorry, but if ".asp" pages download instead of run on a server then that means ASP is not working on the server and is not configured correctly. That is about as low level as it gets and it is really the hosting companie's responsibilty to sort that one out.
It is totally a system admininister's job to make sure that sort of thing is working. If this place supports ASP they really need to fix that for you. There really is nothing I can do for you until ".asp" pages at least run.
As for the Free install... that is no problem. Of course you need to get the hosting company to fix the web before I can be of any help. There is more to that problem then permissions.
For starters I would make a simple ".asp" page with hardly anything it (even some simple html text is fine) and ask them why it is downloading instead of executing and to please fix things. , Not sure what you mean about the path to the IIS files being
wierd...what else should it be? The wf directory is the root of
the aspprotect stuff for this project.
I assume the permissions need to be read, write at least. I was
looking at the permissions dialog from a file explorer and I see a web
sharing tab and a security tab. I look at the security tab but I
am not really sure which type of user I am looking for to add and give
permissions to so that I can get it right. Maybe that is not the
right place to set the permissions....
Sorry to be "windows challenged" but I am not super familliar with all
the different places to set various permissions for OS vs. IIS. I
looked in the "Internet Services Manager" and browsed to the logfiles
directory and looked at its permissions...is that the place to set
things up? I see a "directory" and "Directory security"
tabs...which is the important one? I made sure "write" was
checked and went to the directory security tab and enabled anonomous
access....still no logs are showing up. Restarted server a bunch of
times to make sure it took the permission settings. I logged in
and out correctly and incorrectly to see if a log would be generated
but no luck.
The physical path to the logfiles directory is set correctly in the setup tab in aspprotect... sorry to still be baffled.
How do I know if the filesystem object is disabled on the server?? I can copy and paste things in there...
Thanks!!
, When a new user adds themselves to the db thru the registration page, no user id is assigned in the User_id field. I can't access the page on-line due to an user_id related error on the page. I must use access itself and add the user id. After that, everything works as expected.
What have I done? , not really, aside from looking in paypal and manually adding each one for each user...
how many users are we talking about anyway ?
and were any of the users new sign ups from scratch because if they were and that field didnt get populated that is weird?
ultimately aspprotect does not use that field. I was just storing it for the sake of storing it... so its not a big deal but I would still like to figure out what is going on
removing the expiration dates from paypal subscripbers will be enough to fix the issue your having about them getting the expiration notifications , This is a great article from my old powerasp.com site. Connections And Server Database Permissions
cwilliams38084.7458217593, ok, 1st we need to rule out the #1 reason people sometimes think that is not working.
Is is set up never to allow the same IP to increment the count more than once in a row so when testing it is real easy to think the count isn't working because unless you can change your ip you can not increment the count more than once per album
It's a poor mans spam abuse type of deal.. For the most part it will keep some Joker from hitting refresh 100 times and inflating the count of an album.
Do you think that is possible what is happening ?
Also, here is an older thread about the same issue? http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo54-2.htm , Thought that was already done....
Back to the drawing board... , ASPProtect v7 comes with working example code of protecting a file download.
This comes with the system as an example folder with some files in it.
(some of the initial purchaser's of the system might not have that directory.. if that is the case please ask)
Here is how it works...
Basically we protect the file download by only allowing a logged in user to download it. The special ".asp" page we use the stream the file is password protected. It also hides the true location of the file so you can keep your files out of your web or keep them in a folder in your web that does not allow file browsing. Under this scenario even if someone looks at the html source they can not tell where the file really came from and they can only download if they are logged in and you offered them the link to the file.
For the file download protection examples to work you may need to edit some values in the stream_download.asp file that are valid for your setup.
Look at the source. The values you can edit are commented.
Now, you also need to call a valid "download file name" from the download_link.asp file which is an example of how make a download link to the streamed download.
Lastly, we provide a working example. Now, you obviously may need to customize it to fit your needs. Please realize you are going to have to make special download links in your .asp pages and not only should you only show those links to people with appropriate access to download the files, but you should also protect the streaming download page accordingly as well as far as level, groups, and particular users. What I am saying is which files a particular user is allowed to download is not automatically handled by ASPProtect in any way. We give you all the tools to provide protected downloads to logged in users, but if you have complex needs you’re probably going to need to come up with a system that works for you. It's not really difficult because we did all the complicated stuff, but its something you have to sort out.
Perhaps someday in the future ASPProtect will have an interface to upload files and associate them with certain users. But at the moment it does not. , Thank you so much that works great.
I will test with the other settings on the email server again thanks for the advice,
best regards , Hi, I am glad you like the system. Thx for the comments..
The banner logic in aspbanner it tweaked for speed and performance.. that sort of thing really wouldn't fit into the current code structure very well. It would slow things down and be a nightmare to code because of the way aspbanner uses ultra fast application variables for the banner rotation. Basically its a feature I didnt incorporate for performance and pricing reasons.
I would suggest making different zones for different conditions.. then surrounding the banner calling code with if else logic so a different baner zone was called under certain conditions.
That way performance would not be effected and you could actually show a different group of banners based on certain conditions.
Sorry, but that is the best advice I can offer at this time.
I built ASPBanner for performance and at this time I refuse to sacrifice that for any feature that will slow it down and consume more resources. cwilliams38383.5395601852, Triple check the upgrade instructions because I think you missed something important.
line 227 on "/password_admin/save.asp" refers to the "Password" field
the error your getting most likely means it is not there..
Pay close attention to the areas in the upgrade instructions regarding renaming your existing "Password" field to "Old_Password"
Then making a new "Password" field and carefully following the instructions needed to convert your old passwords for use with the new system.
If you don't everything carefully and perfectly this is the sort of error you will get.
cwilliams38451.8787268519, I am trying to import a file, and I get this error:
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a03f9'
Expected 'Then'
/aspprotect/password_admin/upload_post.asp, line 6 If Session("Admin") <> "True"
-----------------------------^ Any suggestions on how to fix it? Thank you. , Our login works great, variables even help determine menu options. When user logs on, however, it opens in a new page. Is there a setting somewhere that sets whether you can open in a new or existing page?
Also, when you log off , That is by design and how it is designed to function.
There is no easy way to do what you are asking about.
Can it be done ?, sure!!
But it is a lot of custom coding to sort it all out and not something we support.
If I were you I would simply edit the login box screen to show some hyperlinks and options should a person need to use them. , humm, I am curious
If these people are employees and sales reps why are are you using expiration dates at all ? and why the renewing issues... etc etc
I am sure there is a reason but you did not explain.
it might help me to better understand and possibly think about new features for new versions in the future., All can say right now is take a break and get away from it for a bit. All your going to do is stress yourself out more if you keep working on it.
There is probably a way to make it work but it may require days of fiddling around and reading articles and trying things and even then you may not get it working AND THEN ITS JUST A BAD IDEA ANYWAY. Like John says you are better off running it on a server that is not a domain controller. , Is there a limit to how many access levels the program has? We were thinking of having a different access level for each client that logs on our site so we can customize their web experience. We see 6 in one place of the program, 8 in another, but is there any reason why we couldn't make 100 more?
Thanks again for the help! , thanks for posting this... Since "private" is the default setting from what I read and setting it to "public" cured the issue chances are leaving it at "public" is the way to go.

ALSO: since you are one the few people that has ever contributed anything helpful to the forums I am going to reward you with a free copy of the password expiration mod. I am sending you a PM with the download info. , The company is called Eschelon - there customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I have contacted them again and they said that they require the account holder to manage permissions, they won't make changes. I wish they would have told me that a week ago when I asked them about changing the permissions. They haven't responded to me yet how I am to do that though.
Frontpage ext. are not installed.
Once I hear back from them about how I connect to manage rights I should be all set.
Thanks again for all your help! , Hey CJWSoft,
We're helping out some clients of ours in a server transfer and we
really need some assistance from you guys. We've got everything
transfered and running, except for the ASP.NET banner. Do you
have any directions on how to go about moving the install from one
server to another? We've sent a couple emails through the site
but haven't gotten any responses back.
Please help.

, I agree -- don't use the code as is. I provided it only as an idea for a work-around if your ASPProtect users with Internet Explorer complain about the Page Expired message.
I did not test it to be sure the parms coming into the target page (which would be part of the URL when bookmarking) are properly preserved. It would be easy to make sure they are preserved, but I am not sure the code in the example does that. I also customized the code with my own page header and footer.
I have the Option Pack but the site does not need it yet so I haven't applied it. I don't expect many problems re-applying my few lines of modifications.
The IE behavior is not a big deal if you provide an explicit login page, since users would have less interest in paging back to that. In my case, I simply gave a link to a protected part of the site, and when they take that link, they instead get the login form if they aren't logged on. Once they log on, they get their desired content page, to which they sometimes want to page back later on.
From searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base and other sources, I could not find a way (using HTML) to turn off IE's behavior of refusing to quietly reload a page containing form data. Netscape does not do this. So my IE workaround is to ensure my target page does not contain the login form. It does not solve the cause of the problem, but in this case it gets rid of the Page Expired error message for my IE users.
I also purchased ASPProtect for another site, and I'm using that "out of the box" unmodified. I'm very pleased with ASPProtect's functionality and the fact that it works completely without the need to customize. However, I've found it is very easy to customize if I want to.

Puli Club of America , as far as sql goes if you follow the instructions with give for setting up a new database you shouldnt have any issues and permissions should be already set. because we handle that in the sql script we give you.. "its a good thing to look at and it is pretty easy to understand what is going on""
however using another account could cause permissions issues.."yes, even sa" basically the username your using needs datareader and datawriter permissions to all tables used by the photo gallery system and you probably have to go specifically set them usin ght e security tab for your database in enterprise manager. This is more of SQL server 101 than anything to do with the Photo Gallery Code so I am not going to get into it too deeply, but that is definetly the issue. Permissions...
