Its not on their end. Using ASP alone you really won't be able to send more than around 300-400 individuals emails at a time before things will time out. Its just that ASP is not an efficient way of sending email and it never will be.
You really should look into worldcast like I mentioned before. http://www.fairlogic.com/worldcast/
Then just export the email list from the database into worldcast and send out the newsletters.
You will get much better results and perfect newsletters and it really only takes a little bit longer to do each time once you figure it out. That is how I send out my PowerASP and CJWSoft newsletters and it works perfectly every time. , been working on this for about 5 hours today.. I think I found the problem and it involves a vbNullChar that the encryption process is creating only during login attempts
it then messes up during ASPProtect authentication because it blows up the SQL Statement to the database
like I mentioned before the chances off this happening are slim but possible as two people so far have been able to create the situation
I seem to have the HANNAH password working now using your encrption key
I need a little bit more time to clean up the files I have been working on. Then I will give you new "check_user_inc.asp" and "check_admin_inc.asp" files to try out ,
Hello,
If you are using ASPProtect Version 7 it is possible because version 7 supports html emailing. In any other version it would require some custom coding to add html email support. You would have to sort it out by experimenting and editing the emailing code. All the email methods have documentation on the web in some form or another showing how to send html emails.
Also, sometimes depending on the email component being used and the email client reading the email a link in a text based email will get hyperlinked automatically. For example outlook usually will do that, but it doesn't always in other situations.
Lastly, we have special upgrade pricing should anyone want to upgrade to ASPProtect Version 7. It really has a ton of great features.
Best Regards,

, I would say that it isn't all that difficult using mySQL for the backend....the main thing is to make sure you set the primary keys for auto-incrementing in your database. Alos need to make sure that any DELETE SQL statements are formatted like this
DELETE FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
and not
DELETE * FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
The same holds true for using MSSQL , Disallowed Parent Path
The Include file '../dataconn_inc.asp' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.
When you get an error like this it is because parent paths are disabled on the web server. This is a setting in the IIS console for your website.
If it is not enabled on you server you will have to ask your host to enable parent paths for your website.
This is what the settings screen looks like on an XP Machine

Additional Information:
It is enabled by default on IIS4-IIS5 but in IIS6 it is disabled by default. It is a minor security risk to have enabled and some hosts can be difficult about setting it.
Truth is, if your hosting ASP for customers you need to enable this setting if the customer requests it. Especially since 90% of the ASP applications out there require the setting.
Hosting companies should if they are serious about hosting ASP.
If they won't your only option is to go through all the code and convert the file includes to virtual includes.
http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
The trouble with virtual includes is they are different depending on the layout of your website. (that's why web application developers generally don't use them)
Basically if you are in a sub domain the path for the virtual include is going to be different then if you were in the root.. etc etc
Also.. someone developing on a local machine would need totally different virtual includes on the development server than they would on the live server. Server Side includes are processed before ASP so there is no way to make them SMART, so to speak. Server Side includes are hardcoded and that's that.
In my opinion virtual includes are pretty useless for commercial web based applications... Since you don't know where the customers plan to install the apps. And YES there are some tricks when designing the applications that make it less of an issue but they are not perfect solutions.
For example...
The virtual include below would work if the application or code was installed in the root <!--#include virtual = /somefile.asp"-->
But if the application or code was installed in a directory called "somedirectory" the virtual include directive would need to look like this
<!--#include virtual = "/somedirectory/somefile.asp"--> cwilliams38391.6033101852, not really, aside from looking in paypal and manually adding each one for each user...
how many users are we talking about anyway ?
and were any of the users new sign ups from scratch because if they were and that field didnt get populated that is weird?
ultimately aspprotect does not use that field. I was just storing it for the sake of storing it... so its not a big deal but I would still like to figure out what is going on
removing the expiration dates from paypal subscripbers will be enough to fix the issue your having about them getting the expiration notifications , Ya, you must have tried to upgrade from a really really old version like you said which wouldnt really work out because those instructions are specifically for upgrading a version 6 database to version 7.
That line error you had was looking for the User_ID field and I bet the version you had was so old that you didnt have a field named that as a few years ago the field "ID" got renamed to "User_ID"
As for all the cool stuff... yup there is a lot of cool stuff in this version... glad ya like it so far cwilliams38418.8164930556, "get_me_in.asp" just hangs during a new install. Nothing happens no matter how long you wait and IIS may temporarily hang up as well.
You may very well be running something like norton antivirus with norton script blocker on your server? Or something similar?
It can cause issues when ASP uses the filesystem object and cause never ending page hangs like you are having.
Read this.. http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2180, Thank you for the response to my question. In the mean time if I can figure any workaround I will post it here. , Hello-
I'd like to set up the system to redirect to a landing page (say home1) after the user logs in.
I have looked at all the documentation and can't find something that explains how to do this. I am thinking that I can set up a log in as the default in my root directory that will have a form with an action=check_user_inc.asp. I have looked at the code there but cannot find a place where I would place a redirect to home1.
Help please
Thanks , Ok nevermind that... i got by that wasn't paying attention...
The problem is even before this which i didn't know until now.
I placed the protect tag in a page i called members.aspx
When i go to this page is says ACCESS DENIED etc etc etc.
When i go to login to view this page i get the error..which i DIDNT know because i assumed it was working. This is the error im getting:
Server Error in '/MAP' Application.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested URL: /map/users/aspprotectlogin.aspx
Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.42; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.42
btw it says /map because that is the subfolder within the root folder , I moved the password check file out of /user and am getting this message:
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0400'
Expected statement
/asplog/check_user_inc.asp, line 404 End If
^ Is this a standard database connection error so I should ask my IIS to make sure permissions are correct? Thanks..! , I am trying to import a file, and I get this error:
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a03f9'
Expected 'Then'
/aspprotect/password_admin/upload_post.asp, line 6 If Session("Admin") <> "True"
-----------------------------^ Any suggestions on how to fix it? Thank you. , Hello,
for an admin.. you view albums for a user.. make a new album... then click manage pictures
for a regular user you log in.. go to user user area.. create an album..then click on manage your albums , I've had an error I saw described here, couldn't figure out what it
was. My SQL statement was being cut off, though a bit differently
because it was created on multiple lines with the amper-underscore
string construction design; my statement had no UPDATE, only started
with the junk screen characters of the encrypted password.
So, from what you said above about the vbNullChar, Chris, it looks like
I've hit the same problem, maybe from an old version (downloaded March
22, 2005). Could I request a copy of the updated logic?
Thanks a lot.
, The ASP error on the home page has been solved -There was aproblem with the path that was including the home page file and we fixed it.
However the error on the member page remains - any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. This is the error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for
process 0x748 Thread 0xad8 DBC 0x214734c Jet'.
/aspboard/forum/global.asp, line 15
, humm, yea thats a data connection error.. really not related to the asp code in the application for the most part.
that is low level
If using MSACCESS
I would make sure permissions are set correctly on the database folder (not just the database file itself)
I would make sure your using at least a 2000 version of the database. 2003-2003 format being better..
I would make sure the server has up to date mdac/odbc drivers.. (that is really the server admins responsibility)
As for permissions there are articles in our forums about exactly how they need to be set. Improper permissions can cause a ton of random errors like that.

, One problem that is appearing is that in the admin section, in the users.aspx page, only one user is showing up when there are in fact 9 users. Also, when I click the edit user or email icon, the page does not go to the edit screen, it remains on the same page.
Also, I’ve been trying to modify the code to adapt it for our application -- by removing fields that we do not need such as address, city, state, phone, but I am having trouble getting visual studio to compile. It could be due to the fact that the rest of the project is in C#. Or it could be due to some other factor in ASP Protect. , Hi,
I am investigating the possibility of purchasing above script having spent some hours trying to integrate various free banner rotators into my Invision portal.
What attracts me to your script is that it has 6 ways to call banners. I am an inexperienced webmaster with only a smatterring of knowledge about ASP. Will ASP Banner be able to integrate with my portal?
Many thanks
David van der Want , ok, I just sent you a private message with download information.
replace you existing
"check_user_inc.asp"
"admin/check_admin_inc.asp"
"admin/email_user.asp"
with the new versions in the download
Do some testing to make sure that HANNAH password works ok for you.
Hopefully this cures the issue... If it works ok for you for a while I will offer the fixes to everyone and start using this code from now on
BTW: "admin/email_user.asp" had an unrelated bug in it that only happened if its error handling got triggered... it was posting back to the wrong page when that happened and causing an error , It's custimization work. and just not something I can support. Basically it is basic ASP/Database work.
Something you kind of need to figure out on your own. It's not difficult work for a good asp coder but there is no easy way and it is time comsuming.
I wouldn't use the custom fields though. I would make your own. It's simpler that way.
cwilliams38437.0929282407, lets get back to using the forum and not the pm's please only use the PM's for sensative information. its too hard for me to keep track of all of this as well as help everything else when I got an inbox full of pm's
Ok, so you say no paypal subscription info is being put in the database at all.
I know we have a bunch of people using the paypal subscription code with no issues so I know it works but obviously you got something wrong.
It could be a few things.
Did you enable IPN in the paypal system and put in a postback url like my directions say ?
Are you sure you are not getting paypal single payments and paypal subscriptions mixed up ?
Are the paypal links you made for paypal subscriptions in the correct format like are directions state ? That is critical and another example of something important that you have not shown me.
Did you populate all settings correctly for our paypal subscription code ? This includes a correct and valid postback url because if that is not right paypal cant communicate with the aspprotect system and no info will get posted back from them at all.
You say your upgrade went well but if you did all all field names perfectly there could be issues with that.
There is just way too much for me to figure out under free support with the info you keep providing me.
I dont think we are going to get anywhere unless I go into your system and spend a considerable amount of time checking everything out. That is not something I do under normal support so if you are interested it is going to involve a fee paid via paypal. It's probably going to take me a while to check everything out and I need you to be 100% sure IPM is enabled in your PayPal account. If you are not sure how to turn it on search their help system as they have plenty of documentation on the process. , you do not run "check_user_inc.asp" by itself
Pages you protect include that file at the top.. when they someone goes to a protected page if not logged in a user then sees a login prompt..
after loggin in they see that same page as normal
its an automated process..
now, that being said if you really want to you a specify a page to be redirected to after the 1st login when you edit a users info. You can also redirect anyone anywhere like using a simple ASP redirect statement in your code.
Personally I feel that redirecting people all over the place is poor site design. ASP is all about dynamic code and ASPProtect is all about dynamically tailoring pages to the current logged in users... so why redirect people all over the place.. it justs complicates things because you still need to password protect the places you send them to.... which means twice the work and twice the confusion.
Also, here is a Version 6 thread about redirecting manually that still applies to version 7.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo17-1.htm
, thats because you can not have exchange server running at the same time as the windows IIS virtual smtp server..
they clash with one another... and thats why the emails never get picked up by the iis stmp server
you have to send the emails another way like using a true remote mail server.. I am not sure but if your exchange server can do pop 3 you can probably use that that way
you may be able to change the pickup directory that cdosys uses under the virtual SMTP scenario, but I am not sure if that will work with exchange picking it up, but maybe it will work ok because you said it does when you paste them in there manually.. I do not really know.. you'd have to try it and edit the email sub routine to use that pickup path
"scripts/emailing_subs_inc.asp" is where you could try editing that path , You are right, there are NO entries in the "PayPal_Subscriber_ID" field at all. Any way of fixing this? , Is there any way to make the ads in ASPClassifieds end on a day of the week. I would like all of my ads to end on Sunday night and was wondering if there was a way to automatically do that in the database??
Thanks
Dave
, When using the paypal subscription feature with ASPProtect for a new user the expiration in ASPProtect is actually not used. It is set to Null. This is because the PayPal system takes care of everything on their end.
So I can't see this happening because that field is not supposed to be used and the default PayPal subscription code we provide with the system does not populate that field.
Unless you populated the expiration date field on your own ?
Now that I re-read your post. The ASPProtect 6 reference was confusing me.
Now, if you have users that were never on a PayPal subscription that then sign up via PayPal subscriptiion that may indeed be a different story. Is that what you are saying? I am looking at the code right now and it seems to me like it sets the expration date field to null on any new subscription activity regardless.
Let's forget about ASPProtect 6 as I don't think that matters. Please explain exactly when this happens and does not happen and exactly what sort of user we are talking and what their expiration dates are set at before they sign up for a paypal subscription.
Please be as detailed as possible so I really know what is going on ?, The problem was that I did not have
ConnectionString = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}.... in the connection string.
Thank You.
, Using "Email Authentication" as a registration option you cannot do that. There is no possible way I know of to have a delay on the authentication email like that. Also that method is not intended to involve any sort of manual registration like what you are doing.
Because you want to review people manually you need to change to registration process to "manual" and then send the email out manually from the users screen after making a user active. , I have sent an registration email (as test) to both a yahoo account and also my own email server and in both cases I get the same issue, all else is working great. I am sure its somthing simple, perhaps I am over looking somthing else. the site url is www.rochestertek.us/asp/users/register.asp if this helps
Again thanks. , Protecting ASP Pages
To protect a page without using the Access_Level or Groups feature simply add this code to the top of that page.
Put this under the <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
This is an example of a File Server Side Include. You could also use a Virtual Server Side Include.
The following URL explains what Server Side Includes are. http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
Now when someone runs that page they will prompted to login. They will not be allowed access to that page until they successfully logged in.
An example of doing this is provided in the "default.asp" file included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code with a text editor to see the working code. It is quite simple.
Protecting ASP Pages Using Access Levels
To protect a page using the Access Level feature simply add this code to the top of that page. You simply specify the Access Level before the include file is called. In this example we are protecting the page with Access Level 4.
Put this under the <%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<% CHECKFOR = "4" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
This is an example of a File Server Side Include. You could also use a Virtual Server Side Include.
The following URL explains what Server Side Includes are. http://www.powerasp.com/content/code-snippets/includes.asp
Now when someone runs that page they will prompted to login. They will not be allowed access to that page until they successfully logged in as a Level 4 user.
Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code. Again, It is quite simple to follow.
Protecting ASP Pages Using Groups
Please see the code generators in the admin are for the code to do that. cwilliams38403.6864351852, thanks thats what i was guessing.
, I have been working on this. 2Checkout is like the most confusing and worst payment processing company on the planet. There are things about that page I just don not understand as many times as I read through it.
Doesn't seem like this stuff is mandatory just yet. (I asked)
I should have something soon. , I have been told it does as I got about 5 people or so who upgraded but I have not used SQL 2005 yet. I'll order a copy., The only other thing I can think of if you are not getting any errors.
Is that you may have the path to the server include file correct but ASP server side code is not executing in that part of your web site.
You can do a simple test to tell if it is...
Make a simple ".asp" page in the same folder.
Put only this code in it.
<% Response.Write ("ASP is executing") %>
then run the page via the web browser thru the server..
If the text prints out ASP is running... if you don't see anything it is not cwilliams38229.5820486111, You should email me and I can give you a copy of the original application., My server is Server2003. I could not find the folder settings you mentioned. I did find a iuser which I added as specified. I retried to perform an upload. Still same message. But it does move the JPG to the picture folder. So, part of it is working. , Need to know more about ASP ? Check out these links.
