Blog Entry: 3/25/2006 4:25:00 PM

I have activated both activity and log files. The directories exist on my server and don't give any errors.

When I check the activity tab, some times there are a number of items in it.  Other times, there is only my login info.  From what I can see, it is supposed to show the last 50 items of activity at all times.  Am I missing something?

Also, when I click on the log file tab, there is no file or information to see.  Is there something I need to do beyond activating it in the settings area and making sure the directory has write permissions?

Thanks.

,

IT worked just as cwilliams said. I did see the IP address being stored in the table but it didn't dawn on me that it was tied in to the view count, I tried it from a different IP address and it worked great .

Good coding Christopher

Thanks

John

I just upgraded from 6.0 to 7.0 primarily because we were limited in the choices of email systems we could use to send an email validation message.

Previously, with 6.0, we were using CDONTS to send an email validation message to new registrants. Unfortunately, AOL email addressee's were not receiving the vaildation email from us. I received a reply to another post I made on this forum that the problem was due to the fact that aCDONTS generated email has no MX record and AOL blocks non-MX record containing emails.

Well, I upgraded to 7.0, switched to CDOSYS (Using SMTP Virtual Server) with SMTP Authentication and it appears that AOL is still blocking the validation email.

Any suggestions, comments?

,

Well, thats not normal.
(it should work just like our online demo does)

Do you have everything turned on in the settings ?

Uploading needs to be enabled and you also have to pick a valid upload method.

, Come on the threats are not necessary- i got the point the first time you said it.. i thought i made a friend thru this and felt comfortable to say something like that... i am not a big online chatter just do the web stuff as a hobby... i am a network / computer hardware guy (yet i work for a mortgage co. go figure...), well, I just tried a password using "abcdefghi" and like you said it did not work

I am looking into that.

Also, it seems I had the SQL scripts creating the "Old Password" field just in case someone needed it and I forgot about that. ,

Hello Chris,

I have switched to Alentus and have the permissions set correctly and Parent paths turned on.  I cannot figure out how to connect to the database.  Should I have the database in the aspprotect/data/database folder, or in the data folder that Alentus has in my root directory?  once that is determined, how do I decide what the path to that database is?  I have tried many things, but this is what the setup page tells me to enter in the data_conn file DBQ=D:\Websites\www.mysite.com\aspprotect\data\database\ASPP rotect_access2002.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp

Thank You

,

ConnectionString = "DBQ=C:\TradersReportsCom\aspprotect\data\database\ASPProtec t_access2002.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};UID=Admin;Password=temp"

I have already set the folder permissions as indicated in the documentation.

,

sorry.. you just said above you were using XP SP2 so that is the article I referred you to as I just assumed you were talking about your local web server

here is my article on permissions regarding server 2003
http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp

I can look at your installation monday if you like. In about an hour I leave for a wedding thingie and I wont be around again untill monday around noon

Try the uploading using VBSCRIPT method just for the heck of it. Perhaps there is an issue with the installation of the dundas component.

, My client has  a  list of  13,000 members that  have already  been assigned  ID's and passwords with a homegrown system.

When doing a bulk import, will we be able to retain the userid and password or will a new id be assigned during the bulk load?

Thanks in advance for your help.

There are 8 Access Levels by default.. they work like this.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=166& ; ; ;PN=1

Access Levels exist in ASPProtect Version 7 for backward compatibilty for customers using previous versions.

Truth is Groups are the replacement for Access Levels and they are much more powerful and flexible. You can also make as many of them as you want in the admin area.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=167& ; ; ;PN=1

On a side note:
We also coded ASPProtect Version 7 so there could technically be as many access levels as you wanted. It's not supported but if you really wanted more Access Levels you would carefully add more Access Levels to the drop down choices when you edit a user. "edit.asp"

I don't know why anyone would want to use Access Levels however when they can use Groups.

cwilliams38433.5546875, Is there any update to this ?,

I was able to get it all figured out.  Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it.  I ended up copying the database with the password to the directory and used the user/password connection code and it works great.  I believe it was related to that but I cannot be sure.  Thanks again!

,

Yes, that’s all I wanted to know. The problem is on my end. The server is not creating the .NET site correctly. I think I got it working now. Thanks.

In case you wanted to know? The only reason I asked you is because you mentioned that you where having trouble with overseas piracy and my account is new. I figured it was my user error by just though I’d ask you first. Hope you have no more piracy issues and have a good rest of the day.

Thanks again for the quick response.

Hi,

I wanted to see if you had any suggestions for converting from Access to SQL sever database. I attempted this earlier today performing the following steps.

1) Create SQL Tables using Enterprise Manager / SQL Scripts
2) Use DTS to move all of the existing table data to the sql tables.
3) Update dataconn_inc.asp to use SQL and the required connection string.

When these steps were complete I was able to login to ASPProtect as an admin and search / find both groups and users. However, any attempt to edit or create users resulted in a "the page ... had a problem ... " type problem. It seems that I can read from the db fine but and getting errors writing to the tables. The user id that is being used to connect to the db is the [dbo].

Any additional hints for this procedure?

Thanks

Darrell

,

Of course ASP.NET is and HAS been installed. I have been running asp.net scripts for years on it. I am not new to asp.net nor setting up the server or anything. ASP.NET is properly installed and works perfectly.

You are missing the fact i mentioned it is a DOMAIN CONTROLLER.

I have come across MANY articles ONLINE via GOOGLE that mention if it is a domain controller, for some reason the aspnet account is not there or gets deleted.

IN ITS PLACE GOES THE IIS_WPG ACCOUNT. IS YOUR SOFTWARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS ACCOUNT?

Is it possible to run ASP.NET scripts without ASP.NET not being installed? Because I have been running asp.net pages without any problem.

,

How can I make so it goes to certain webpages if user enters valid username and password??

I suppose user enters its information on check_user_inc.asp page, and username and password are stored on SQL database.

Thanks

, O.K. , I register myself as a user.  No problem,  Iget an e-mail saying account active.  No problem.  I click the link in the e-mail.  No problem.  I click sign in and get this message.  Big problem!!

cwilliams38456.0969444444, I wasnt talking about the date for a banner ad.. I was talking about the date field in the database for a USER if there is one (I dont remember if that app had date fields for user or not and I am not at a computer to take a look)

If you do not know how to directly open up and edit the database then yes you should just make a new user,

Chris -

Long time no talk, which is a good thing.  I have purchased another product from you, ASPVendor.  I am running into an issues.

When I try and remove the image through the image manager, it does not remove it.  Screen shot attached.

If you are using version 6 CDOSYS is not supported. That is one reason why version 7 came out. If you want to rewrite the code to work with CDOSYS in version 6 that is something you need to sort out on your own as I do not support custimization to the code.

, actually, passwords can be up to 75 characters long in ASPProtect.
the only requirement when entered from a non admin user is that they are at least 4 characters long.

what does MSAccess have to do with this ? Are you trying to convert and old system or something? I noticed you created and "old password" field in there ? Is there something I do not know about as far as what you are trying to do?

Passwords in version 7 are encrypted so I hope you understand all of that and realize you can not enter or change passwords right from SQL server. Also if you import info you must handle that accordingly and convert the passwords to encrypted format for the new version., Attached is a SQL script to create the ASPProtect Database with the Option Pack Changes already applied. This lets you create the database in one step and you wont have to make the option pack changes as they are already there.

This only applies to people using MSSQL and doing a new installation.

This scripts are run via SQL Enterprise Manager.

You make a new database then run this script on it in query manager.

how di I change the currency dollar sign to gdp pound sign ?

I need all my tranactions in gdp puund sterling to use on paypal

, Not without changing a lot of code. If you didn't want encryption you really should have went with version 6. Encryption is a big new feature of Version 7 and it is inter-mixed with it the code in a lot of places.

As for doing the export and import you have to create a valid export file and then read through this very thread which explains how to import an export file with clear text passwords.

This is from the admin area regarding the text file format
The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it.

Generating an import file from your own database requires good knowlege and understanding of Access's Importing and Exporting functions. It is not something I cover as the process is different for everyone and not really very hard. ,

check the action for the button in the code... its probably not posting back the the right page which should the same page it is...

I bet ya it is posting to guestbook2 which is the wrong directory... an old mistake I forgot to correct...

cwilliams38310.6540046296, I encountered the same problem and eventually found out that my Norton protection was not allowing scripts to work so I had to uncheck the setting before the banners reappeared., MODS are NOT SUPPORTED.. questions about them will not be answered in the support forums. If you want to use a MOD you are considered an advanced user and will need to sort out any issues that may or may not come up.

MODS are used at your own risk and may or may not require certain basic coding skills. , Very weird for sure but I guarantee no code in ASPProtect is deleting that folder. Something else is going on the server and deleting it and I have no idea what it would be.

Maybe try leaving a blank text file in it and see if the folder disappears after a few days.,

ok.. so we got an NT server with a 486 with 256 meg of ram.

hehe  sorry

anyway.. I have the system running without doing any importing and WOW is it chugging.. I mean it takes a while even to edit/save a user

good news is the filesystem object works as I wrote to a text file

this may end up being a simple case of lack of horsepower..

we may need to do the importing on a faster system and then take the database over cause everthing I see on your server looks correct

even so aspprotect is running so slow.. I have never seen it chug like this

I even tried connecting to a 2000 version of the database and no difference.

I am not totally sure what is going on but the server resources available are scaring me... however this could be something new in the code that I never got a chance to try on NT server.. I dont think so though

how does your other stuff run ?

static pages that do not access a database seem to serve up quickly.

are you running any other dynamic code ?

,

Can we get access to the source project files for ASPProtect.net since we'd like to put in some of our own branding on the pages and not everything can be done in HTML.

Thanks

, Send email to users that are soon to expire:
What Format should be used for dates and does international friendly dates affect the date as used by the reminder ?

Am having serious problems with renewal notices and expiration dates.

All member sign ups are for 1 yr., yet new members are being sent renewal notices.

Does Paypal use a different date system or has  does Paypal have nothing to do with Subscription dates?

, I have added two users in different group access but none of them can login to the pages , Seems as though changing the mail settings to "remote email server" did the trick.
,

yes, like macnap says.... you have to protect your ".asp" pages the way the directions tell you to...

and like in the "example" protected pages we provide

or they will not be protected and nothing will happen as far as ASPProtect goes

I guess I just didnt understand what you were talking about

,

I had not rebooted after installing the Jet driver updates, so I tried that and the asptest page worked fine, and said that all the tests were successful and that the data connection was setup correctly. I then installed aspprotect again, but with the same results. I cannot log-in from the get_me_in.asp page. It still says that it is opening the page, but does not respons for an indefinite period. The asptest page is in the same directory.

I have looked for alternate databases for this product on your site, but I cannot seem to find them.

,

it's ok

one step at a time and at each step testing things.. then when you mess something up you can figure it out a lot easier

cwilliams38456.1106018519, Thank you!  I thought that is what had to be done, just didn't want to miss out on a short cut if there was one.  Thanks again,

I have been having some display issues with the .NET version of ASPBanner.  I set the size of the image, and I set the size of the banner and there is still white space above and below the image.  I am not using a text link below the banner, so I have it set to blank.

Here is a link to my page.

http://www.nababaseball.com

Two of the three banners in the rotation on the main page have non-white backgrounds so it's easy to see the issue I'm talking about.

Is there a way to tighten up the formatting so that the image fits onto the page in the size specified?

JDooley

,

Yes I did see that, and created the new project as well as imported the DLL's. I guess my question is; is it as easy as rename the file from aspprotectlogin.aspx to login.aspx and then running the release to regenerate? I know this is a novice question as I am a novice to .NET but the fastest way to learn is to do. Also I know you’re an advanced programmer with better things to do so if I’m stepping over the line from technical help to basic programming I should already know, feel free to point me somewhere ells.
