Blog Entry: 3/25/2006 4:25:57 PM

I've got an ecommerce module that's running on it that uses access for the db.  Connecting into that thing is slow as well, but I figured that's because of the complications and volume it handles.

So as far as importing on a faster machine and copying it over to the server...what suggestions do you have?

,

You would set the groups during users signup the same way you would do the expiration in the following example.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo170-1.htm

The groups field need to be set the exact same way it would look like in the database of course

So, if a user was part of groups 1, and 2

You would look in the database and see this in the groups fields for that user

*1*,*2*

so in the signup code you set that like so

CmdAddUser.Fields("Groups") = "*1*,*2*"

This info only applies to resgitrations and signups using the "users" folder.
if you wanted to make different sceanrios you would need to carefully make a copy of the users folder and adjust it accordingly

,

nice. I love learning at least 1 thing every day,

Umm, if your using MSACCESS your using MSACCESS

SQL server has nothing to do with it.

, I would like to have the ability to give a user 1 album with the default # of photos in it.

Is the best way to implement this to just add in an album creation routine during the sigup/registration process and turn off the ability to create a new album?  Or is a user setting prebuilt into the system for this?
,

Has any one used the aspmail function to send emails from within your site? If so what did you use as the AspMail_Host string in the connections database?

thank you

,

I'm in a bind cause I'm supposed to be launching on Monday!?  I have four different subscriptions set up in ASPProtect and I'm going to 2Checkout for payment.  When I go to 2checkout I have the same 4 subscriptions setup.

How does ASPProtect know what product id to use in 2Checkout?

I have the redirect setup etc. but it's using the default URL in 2checkout and not the product(Subscriptions).  The only way I can tell what the user selects is from the price... and I'm specifying the time period, the cost, group in the 2checkout1.asp but I'm not getting the user set for the periods either....  my main problem is the interface to 2checkout... I think if a product id is added somehow it might work.  What can I do?

thanks, -Jason

, No, Unfortunately.
I have seen your messages.
I have not edited the code at all.
Tomorrow I will install the sql database again from your script as I did before and I will try again. I will send all the details.
Thank you again.
, No, because ASPProtect.NET is licensed per and only runs in One website (one iis application)

That error however probably has more to do with parent paths being disabled on the server.,

someone has to do something other than me.. i've given up

if i give u the username/pw can you set this up on the network solutions host and ask them to set whatever permissions are needed?

cant do it anymore....

,

I really do not know to tell you the truth. I'll do some research.

The script only allows .jpg, .jpeg, and .gif extensions.

If someone uploads a file called... "filename.vbs.jpeg" with bad vbscript in it I seriously doubt anything can happen because of it because of the extension.

But I really do not know.

It has never happened to any sites I have or know of.

cwilliams38447.0491435185,

It probably is. You would have to look at the paypal documentation for IPN and see what needs to be changed in the form code.

You can get all that info from PayPal's website.

There are tons of variables and options you can use with all of their code.
They have detailed PDF files full of information on all of them.

cwilliams38459.9550925926,

I think its great to share a mod.

I will have  few with the new album.

, humm, I see your using the lite version which is technically not supported.

I know you were responding to an existing thread but I really would rather you have posted this in the ASPProtect Lite area or at least mentioned what version you are using. Usually there are big differences in the versions and it helps me help you if I know what is going on.

Regardless, the code for this feature is actually the same and I just tested a fresh install of the lite version and it stored that verify url perfectly and all worked as it should in the verification email.

All I can think of is that you can try manually editing the "users/add_new_account.asp" file.

This part

EmailBody = EmailBody & "New Registration.." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "Your registration still has to be validated." & vbCrLf & "Go to " & vbCrLf & VerifyURL & "?u=" & Server.URLEncode(Request("Username")) & "&v=" & ValidateEmailCode  & vbCrLf & "to verify your registration." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf

Would need your verify URL hardcoded into it which would pretty much guarantee it would get put in the email.

EmailBody = EmailBody & "New Registration.." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "Your registration still has to be validated." & "http://localhost/aspprotectlite/users/v.asp" & "Go to " & vbCrLf & VerifyURL & "?u=" & Server.URLEncode(Request("Username")) & "&v=" & ValidateEmailCode  & vbCrLf & "to verify your registration." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf

Of course change the url to be valid for your setup.

Still, the fact that this isn't working means there is something wrong with your installation. It would probably be a good idea to erase everything, do an iisreset, and re-install the application in a different directory... immediatly log and go to the settings page, carefully set everything and save it... then register as a new user and see what happens.

There is no reason that variable shouldn't get set. I mean I tested it just now with a fresh install of the version you are using and not only that... 1000's of people have been using that same code for over a year in the full version and no one has had this problem except the guy who started this thread who never populated the value.

My guess is still a problem with your "IIS application" for that web. It is not doing it's thing for some reason. When the settings page is saved and application variable gets set telling the config file to reload the variables as it doesn't do it every time to conserve resources.

If that isn't getting triggered and that variable isn't getting set who knows what else isn't getting set and it's not pratical going around hardcoding 15 important variables., well, thats a network drive path and in my opinion a very poor way for them to have set things up. It can work as long as permissions get set there and they have the anonymous webserver accounts set up correctly to handle that scenario, but performance isn't the best because your accessing the access database over the network. Access databases are not just not meant to be connected to over the network in a web based scenario. Quality ASP hosting companies do not set up their servers that way and it can often be difficult to get things running as it is a more complex setup on their end. Meaning if they dont synchronize the IUSR_machine accounts correctly you'll have permission issues.

http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2168 , I do not really know a lot about but it is basically code that lets you specify however many number of images and links... and then display a certain number of them at once.

You'd have to search google for it.. there are 1000 of sites that offer free javascript code and that is where you find scripts like that.

You could certainly set up all the images and links for each banner in aspbanner but if you used them with code like that you be limited to tracking clicks on banners. Tracking page impressions would not be possible because the javascript would be handling what images get displayed at any given time. Basically each link for each image would be going through aspbanners tracking url feeding it the banner id and therefore tracking the click and sending the user to the desirec URL.

Regardless, it is not something I would support. You would have to sort it out as it is nothing ASPBanner was designed to do and not something I want to deal with because client side javascript code is not something I am NOT very good with. ,

Thought that was already done....

Back to the drawing board...

,

OK.  If no return page is set, do they end up on a PayPal confirmation page and have to navigate back to my site by going Back or typing the web address?

Nick

,

... doesn't seem to be working on my site. I expect I did something wrong.

I've created some groups, "week", "month", and "year". Their IDS are 6, 5, and 4, respectivelty. When someone goes through the PayPal signup, he's assigned to one of those groups based on his subscription.

When I see a new subscriber and check the relevant group the person's supposed to be in, that person's not in that group. I'm adding them manually for now, but I'd sure like a solution for when I go to sleep...

My subscription code looks like this:

input type="hidden" name="custom" value="5,*4*,<% =User_ID %>

One-off code looks like this:

option selected value="7,4.95,1,*6*"

I've created the groups in my management console. Is there anywhere or anything else I'm missing?

,

so you are using the subscriptions signup directory right ?
"paypal_signup2" ?

1st.. I would check that the xml parser is working.

It is required for making the post back to paypal.
It is installed on windows 2000 and 2003 and XP by default.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=134& ; ; ; ; ; ;PN=1

Then I would check the actual form page to paypal to make sure it is generating a valid IPN url as a hidden form value.  It's the payment page you actually click on that actually takes you to paypal. For the subscription signup system that page is called "paypal1.asp"

You'll want to go through the process starting with the default.asp of the signup folder untill you get to that page. Then you want to look at the html source of that page in Internet Explorer. Your looking for something like this in the source code and you want to make sure it is valid.

<input type="hidden" name="notify_url" value=http://www.mysite.com/aspprotect/paypal_sub_signup/ipn.asp>

It also has to a url on the internet that paypals server can see. It can not be a local url for your machine. Also: If it is not valid we can try hard coding it.

If all of these things are good I'll have to take a look. I have some text file logging I can do when paypal hits your IPN url that can tell us if it is actually hitting that page like it is supposed to. And I can test the system for you by making some 1 cent payments using my own paypal account until we find out what is going wrong.

cwilliams38421.5686921296, How and where does one add countries/cities to the list so that they appear in the Drop-Down list that advertisers see when they are placing a new ad?,

no, that only applies to random pictures and stats..

The issues you are talking about usually relate to issues created by switching back and forth between a local install and a live server install and not being careful about changing the paths in the settings depending on where you are running it from.

For example.. it trying to use a url at the server level that is only valid when you are running it locally

cwilliams38394.7554976852,

I purchased two site licenses for ASP Protect a while back and am now trying to implement the application.

The connection to the database is fine, because it recognizes the user and displays the user name.  However, there must be a problem with the permission because I get the DNS error information from the On Error in the check_user_inc.asp file.

I set the permissions on my PC as you indicated, both on the folder and the database file.  But get the error and cannot access the database to view or modify.  I also uploaded the file to my web server and set the permissions as well, but get the same problem.

You mention on your forum that it is not the code, but I don't understand if the code is correct and if it finds the database and the permissions have been set as you indicate, why doesn't the code work?

, its that server, it's way underpowered when it comes to running dynamic code and databases.. and that other app is probably stealing all the leftover odbc resources..... did you try doing the import on another machine running ASP? Thats the way to go.. I am afraid I won't be much help at the moment.. I am battling with a crashed system and a lot of lost data, The way the application works is one separate installation and database is required for each (IIS Application).... not only is it a licensing thing but it is also the nature of (forms based authentication) because every application in IIS has it's own set of application and session variables and they can not be shared with other various IIS applications.

That being said if you plan to run a separate install for each web/IIS application buying new licenses is fine

If you want to run one installation and database and share that with other web.IIS applications it is not technically possible.

Each web/IIS application requires a seperate install of ASPProtect.NET,

Understood.... can you point me to a place where there are other methods of calling banners?  Do you mean not use Flash?  I am new to this and will need some pushing over the cliff!

Thanks

Dave

, Say, I just thought of one last thing.

Your not by any chance running something like norton antivirus with norton script blocker on that server are you ?

It can cause issues when ASP uses the filesystem object and cause never ending page hangs like you are having.

There are other apps as well that can cause it to hang.

http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2180

And ASPProtect does use the filesystem object.,

Parent Paths ?

,

well, I need more details..

you got SQL server or data connection issues is pretty much the bottom line

If I remember right we went down this road with a SQL setup quite a while back (auguest 2005) and that never really got resolved

here it is
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=321&KW =yiak

,

I am testing this now and there is something wrong.

PayPal is hitting the ipn.asp but the database is not being updated.

I will figure it out shortly though and post the anwer here.

, did you read what this thread says about that session variable for groups not be created by default

you have to add code so it sgets created before you can check it... this thread talks about that, Oh, it does seem to put the photo in the correct directory.,

Thanks, I'll take a look.

Nick

, MODS are NOT SUPPORTED.. questions about them will not be answered in the support forums. If you want to use a MOD you are considered an advanced user and will need to sort out any issues that may or may not come up.

MODS are used at your own risk and may or may not require certain basic coding skills. ,

Honestly cannot comment much about v7 since it was just installed on a new server.  We have been running 5.03 for years so I'm looking forward to the new features in v7.

Lance

,

check the action for the button in the code... its probably not posting back the the right page which should the same page it is...

I bet ya it is posting to guestbook2 which is the wrong directory... an old mistake I forgot to correct...

cwilliams38310.6540046296, The application is only intended for use with the way it comes.
Use of other currencies is not supported.
(this is noted on the product page)

However, it can probably be used fairly easily with UK customers.

You'll probably want to look into setting the currency to UK in the code generated for the PayPal buttons which is in "view_item.asp". There is probably a hidden form variable you add to it to specify the currency. PayPal's shopping cart documentation and help system would have more info on that.

Doing a search real quick there I came up with this.

<input type="hidden" name="currency_code" value="GBP">

Then you may also want to change the LCID settings for the web site to UK. (I think)

To do that edit the "config_inc.asp" file with a text editor.

Add this code between the <% and %> tags.
Near the top is good

Session.LCID = 2057

There may also be hard coded dollar signs in the code that you will need to change to whatever.. If after you do the above to steps you see then you'll know where to change them based on the named of the page you on.

It is quite possible that simply changing the LCID will take care of everything, but I am not sure.

Those are the tips I can give you. , I have ASP Photogallery running and it seems to be great, but I would like to allow uploads using DUNDAS the problem is I can't seem to find it on the linked website. I did find an EXE install in another place but I am running on a Shared Host (Godaddy) and can't run an executable on it. Where can I find Dundas and is there a way to install it without running an EXE??, like I mentioned are you by chance running something like Norton Antivirus Script Blocking ?? That can cause timeouts and all sorts of problems with ASP as can other software like it. ,

in Control_pic.asp is there way to wrap the description field so that it doesn't go outside the table.

Thanks

,
