any data not set there would have to be added and then the project recomplied so that data gets saved...
, We have a site that currently runs ASPProtect and would like to install a second instance of it. The reason is that the current one is set up to manually authorize new users (it is for applying discounts to the Trade), but we want a second instance that will allow new users to register freely (this is for personalization).
Has anyone set up such a goofy scenario themselves? Is this even possible?

Upgrade at your own risk. Though we try new versions are not always perfect due to minor bugs we may miss.
Back up your old setup so you can revert back if necessary..!!!
Save your data connection string info in a text file so you have it.
You can get that by viewing the system info page in the admin area.
Carefully copy all the ".asp" files from the new version to the old.
Your going to want all the .asp files in the aspbanner folder.
Your going to want all the .asp files in the aspbanner/scripts folder
Copy the aspbanner/images folder because there are some new images
Be sure to also copy the "data/config" folder files.folders as well as a lot of that is new including the actual config file. If you dont get the new config file copied in there you will have problems later on with some of the new features.
Be sure to create a new folder in the "data" folder called "tempstats"
Make sure it has proper permissions if you plan on using the delayed stats feature as the stats gets temporarily stored there.
Go back to the area where you originally setup the data connection and do that again...
From the web browser run the following URL
http://yoursite/data/config/aspbanner_unlimited.asp
Replace "yoursite" with the proper url info relevant to your web site location.
When run via the web server that page will ask for a password. By default it is "temp". You should change it later on for security reasons. That page tells you how.
Now... moving on..
There were no changes to the database except for SQL Server users so you can use your existing database.
SQL Server users that want to use the new stored procedures feature (it's optional) will need to update their SQL database with the stored procedures.
Scripts to do that are provided.
ALSO: I have been running this new version using SQL Server Stored Procedure mode for a 1 week on a special banner server that serves banners to many of my own sites. I have also been using the new Delayed Stats feature.
All I can say is it is running like a champ and the SQL server is using less memory than it ever did before.

, I am also getting the "Unspecified Error" message. I just transferred my site to IIS 5.0 and I get that error now. However it does not happen everytime. I can click on a page and it opens fine and then I hit refresh in the browser and I get the "Unspecified Error" message. What could be causing this?
, Not without changing a lot of code. If you didn't want encryption you really should have went with version 6. Encryption is a big new feature of Version 7 and it is inter-mixed with it the code in a lot of places.
As for doing the export and import you have to create a valid export file and then read through this very thread which explains how to import an export file with clear text passwords.
This is from the admin area regarding the text file format
The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it.
Generating an import file from your own database requires good knowlege and understanding of Access's Importing and Exporting functions. It is not something I cover as the process is different for everyone and not really very hard. , We can't seem to find the purchase emails for this install of ASPProtect.

(thats the same code the every guestbook in every application I sell uses including ASPGuest which gets downloaded for free about 50 times a day)

I would do a default installation with the original code somewhere and see if the problem occurs. If it does I can take a look.

Mostly because all of the picture work is done in the filesystem, not the database. The load on the database is relatively low even with a lot of users., I've downloaded this neat little app, but I'm having troubles understanding what I should be using. Cassinni or IIS, can you help? I've tried to look at the help, but it is very vague on what to use in each situation.
Any help is appreciated.

It works fine with Access... I believe I have checked all the fields created by the sql statement (which was run with no errors),
What could be the problem here? could it be a problem that I run my local IIS against the online sql server?

, I am running into problems with the import function. I have 25 photos loaded into the import folder. The page see all of the photos. But after I click on the import process it takes me Picture Manager with no pictures loaded. The application is only designed to have one kind of admin and that kind has full access to the admin area.
You can of course give any user access to stats for their banners via the bannerstats page.
That is how it works. There are no other levels of admin access.
, I did a google search and it turns out that error very well might have to do with ASP trying to send an email and that process failing.
That tells me your emailing from the application is not working so it is probably not something you edited incorrectly.

Emailing was working as when I did your installation (I think I did it months ago, didn't I) so it must be some incorrect changes to your email settings in the admin settings screen. Try sending an individual email to a user from the admin users screen and see if it works. My guess is you will get the same error and means your email sending options are no longer correct or valid.
If that is the case I would ask you if you changed them or possibly something changed as far as your email setup goes. Passwords ? EMail Server .. etc etc etc , also, just to show you what happens when a user creates a subscription this is the code. you can see in red where the subscrition is is set and also where the exp date is set to null

So, if a user was part of groups 1, and 2
You would look in the database and see this in the groups fields for that user

so in the signup code you set that like so

This error actually does not have anything to do with the forgotten password feature or your database.
It has to do with the settings you chose for emailing.
it relates to aspmail and it not liking the remotehost you used, or something like that.... etc etc , one more problem I see...

As far as the users thing... my fault that was setup wrong in the settings of the admin login page.
but still dont have a solution for what im trying to do , Well I have the web hosting tech looking into the memory issues at this point. Unfortunately I don't have another machine to be able to run the asp on that would run it correctly so that I can just publish it over. , works fine now , I'm using the groups protect feature on my pages. None of them seem to close the session after clicking 'logoff'. I can tell because if I hit the back button and return to the group-protected page, hit 'refresh', the page refreshes, I'm not asked to log in again.
On the other hand, when I open a page that's protected by an access level and click 'logoff' (uses same logoff asp file to logoff), it seems to work fine - if I go back a page and refresh, it asks me to log in.
Just wondering - is anybody else having problems like this? Maybe I screwed something up in the few adjustments I made a while back. Any idea what it might be? , Chris,
Ok new puzzle . I have now managed to gonfigure it to get the admin screen and update members. All excellent news. Seems to work a treat.
But have used the code you give in your getting started guide to add at
the very top of an aspx page to be protected. The path is configured
correctly I am sure. the aspx file is in the root, the protect program
is in a folder now configured as an application (hence the steps
forward to get to the admin screens) on the root, so address should be
foldrname//protectpage.ascx.
Proble when I load that aspx page is as above. The exact same config error ,oww!
I am sure its a setting on my server now, but I dont know what to ask for, Any ideas...

, I log all 404 errors on my site and since installing ASPBanner, I get a lot of the following error:

ID changes and there are various missing links. Some missing links include:

While not critical, these are filling up my error logs and it takes time for me to sort through them. , you summed it up perfectly... everything you said really
As for the banner software custimizations.. you could just make another folder with a modified admin area (little tweaks here and there so the person logged in only controls their own banners) You'd probably want to add an approval process so nothing they did went live unless you really really trust them. That wouldn't be that hard either.
I always planned to do it someday but I just never have time.
