Yeah, its working great witht he Access database. Now I just need to get it all set up. I like how the config file is set up with all the comments, it really helped allieviate the 40k thumbnails,  .
One quick question though, and I haven't looked through all the code yet... Is there a quick way to have pic_window.asp open full screen by default? I just want to minimize having to either scroll through, or maximize, the screen

- Jason , After I approve someone's username and password, then go to send them the default e mail telling them of the approval, the e mail never goes through. The e mailing used to work well for many months, but it stopped working. Any thoughts?

Please Note : ASPProtect v7.x has a new feature called groups that is much more powerful than access levels. Access Levels were left in the product primarily for existing customers that upgrade to the new version so they do not need to make a lot of changes to their site if they were using Access Levels.

Again, Examples of managing Access Levels are provided in the "multiple_access_levels" folder included in the root of the Password System. Look at the source code of the ASP pages in that folder with a text editor to see the working code.
Access Levels and how they work can be re-coded to work in many different ways. However, you have to be a good ASP developer to make changes to it. Here is some information on how they work by default.
In the "check_user_inc.asp" that comes in the root of this system Access Levels work as follows.
Level 1 has Access to - Level 1
Level 2 has Access to - Level 1,2
Level 3 has Access to - Level 1,2,3
Level 4 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4
Level 5 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5
Level 6 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6
Level 7 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
Level 8 has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
ADMIN has Access to - Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,ADMIN

If the access levels are too restrictive you can ignore them all together and create your own totally custom solutions.
Here is a quick rundown of some of the things you can do.
Ok... so if you want to be really specific about what each user can see and
can't .. here's an example of what you can do
Don't use the access levels before the include file..
Don't worry about what you set a user to in the admin area since the access levels won't be used.
Do something like this..
Every time a user logs in session variables are set that you can access at
any time.. thus allowing you to know who they are.

have to do it manually for each user.
You can also do things like this after a person logs in

I thought it was a counter at first but that number only displays the number of albums they have set up. , need more info..
are you using aspimage to resize images and make true thumbnails..
(because if you have it turned on and it isnt actually installed on the server you will get broken thumbnails.)
what kind of images are you using ? gif or jpegs
are you uploading images over existing images ?
really need to know exactly what to do to reproduce the situation from scratch and then I can give you a better answer ??
cwilliams38348.7894097222, It appears there was a flag problem. When reading it into SQL Server, it converted the True/False in Access to 1/0 in SQL Server.
, Sorry, there is not any documentation on that.. it is basic asp/database work and customization like that is not supported. I recommended looking at what is already there and using that as a guide to produce more fields. etc etc , ok, 1st we need to rule out the #1 reason people sometimes think that is not working.
Is is set up never to allow the same IP to increment the count more than once in a row so when testing it is real easy to think the count isn't working because unless you can change your ip you can not increment the count more than once per album
It's a poor mans spam abuse type of deal..
For the most part it will keep some Joker from hitting refresh 100 times and inflating the count of an album.
Do you think that is possible what is happening ?

This is my issue:
I have read over all the docs and installation instructions and can't find a way to do this:
my default page in my root dir will be a log in page which will take the user once his level is validated to a "home page". Is there a page in your examples that will perform the function of this log in page? or should I rename check_user_inc.asp as the default and change it's html output to make it look like my log in page?
I also looked within the code for check_user_inc.asp and did not see where to specify where the user will go once he signs in.
Your help is appreciated , Now that I think about you may very well be able to use the existing login_form_inc.asp page
the header and footer files for the users area may be ok as well.
probably the smart thing to do is try your old ones and compare them to the new and see if everything you need is there. If not add it by looking at the source html and comparing.
All other files should definetly be replaced with the new. , If you bought ASPBanner Unlimited Version 7.3 Before August/01/2004 this file needs to be updated.
It fixes a bug where CODE type banners do not work correctly with a weight higher than 1.
Basically, blank banners will rotate and you will see nothing sometimes.
Copy this file into your ASPBanner folder over the existing file of the same name.

Oddly...this feature works fine when I use the original admin user that you setup.
But I setup another one with my username and password (not test) - because I was afraid anything with "test" could get deleted.
Any ideas on why the new admin userid would not work? Note: I have not change any code from the original installation.

The only possible way I can think of that could cause that is if you changed things around too much and the config_inc.asp file is getting run/included twice on that page your logging in to.
Also, when you sign in "where" ? What page ?
cwilliams38456.0906712963, The album ID thing is completely normal and by design. Once an ID in the database is used it can not be used again. That is how autonumber fields in a database work.
As far as not being able to delete images... Are you by chance using ASP.NET to show dynamic thumbnails... Because if you are you must turn that feature off and wait 20 minutes or so (maybe more) before you will be able to delete any of the images. It is because the current version of the ASP.NET script used to make the thumbnails locks the images on the server temporarily anytime it creates a thumbnail.
It is a known issue... and there is no fix at the moment other than what I told you above. cwilliams38324.744525463, I just started using ASPJpeg, and i used the
"generate_new_thumbnails.asp" to create new thumbs of all of the
existing albums. It generates the thumbs just fine, but they
don't get picked up by the "Randomly Selected Photo" section. If
I upload new pics, they will show up in the random photo area.
So, it reads the new upload thumbs, but not the newly generated ones using your .asp page.

, Running in parallel for testing is actually a smart way to do it, but the truth is you don't use anything from version 6 except the upgraded database (we have a tutorial on how to upgrade the database)
Version 7 was a drastic change /rewrite to all of the asp files that come with the application. So you will be starting out with fresh version 7 ".asp" files and folders... You will also find that once you get version 7 running that editing certain things like the look of the users area and the login screens is much easier to do.
That being said any of your own ".asp" pages that you protect use the same protection code they always did, so there will be no drastic changes needed there when you do finalize the upgrade.
If using MSACCESS as the database I suggest installing the application somewhere in your web and using a fresh ASPProtect 7 database. Once you are familiar with the setup and everything is working fine. Attempt the database conversion and when your done stick your converted database in there and see if everything is ok.
Also, if you already purchased the application download the latest version before doing the install. It's the same download URL. If you don't have it email me and I can hook you up. I have added some new features and fixed a couple minor things since it's release.
So far the feedback on version 7 has been awesome.. cwilliams38414.0133680556, Also, I notice you are using iframes to load the banners. That is probably your issue more than anything. That browser probably does not handle them well.
Possibly try other methods of displaying the banners and see what happens. The XML parser is usually one the best methods to try as it will output just your banner code straight into your html. , Hi Chris,
We installed our key onto the live server.
However, since our temp key has expired, we can't access our application on our development machine because the login won't work anywhere except on the live server.
Of course we can access the application on dev, if we remove the aspprotect tags, but if we need to log in to do something unique to the user, then we have a problem.
Can we get another temp key from you? And would there be a better long term solution to this debug/maintanence issue?

Ok new puzzle . I have now managed to gonfigure it to get the admin screen and update members. All excellent news. Seems to work a treat.
But have used the code you give in your getting started guide to add at
the very top of an aspx page to be protected. The path is configured
correctly I am sure. the aspx file is in the root, the protect program
is in a folder now configured as an application (hence the steps
forward to get to the admin screens) on the root, so address should be
foldrname//protectpage.ascx.
Proble when I load that aspx page is as above. The exact same config error ,oww!
I am sure its a setting on my server now, but I dont know what to ask for, Any ideas...

, Interesting.. Yes, the SMTP service is turned on. This is my boogle. If they are both installed, then it should in theory work. But for some reason, it is being subborn and not working., Trying to make sense of this. I am still confused. In the file config_inc.asp. I found the setting for "uploaddirectory". That entry looks like this [UploadDirectory = CmdGetConfiguration("UploadDirectory")]. I assume there is a config file where the value of upload directory is located.
The settings in the config_inc.asp file have not been changed. they are set to the way it was delivered. Is there a document that gives instructions as to what and where the config settings are to be changes? , the reason being is because when I do installs I do not touch any of your existing content. I only install the base application and make sure everything in it working correctly and also that the example protected pages are working. I do not integrate it with your existing site or edit any of your existing web content. That is up to you
sorry about that, but it would be way too time consuming and editing people's existing pages is a good way to cause a lot of headaches for me and the customer if something goes wrong. Not only that but everyone uses the system differently and it wouldnt make sense for me to be the one doing that based on access levels, groups.. etc etc which will all be custom to how you want things set up.

You onlyahve the two options we give in the config file for thumbnails

One more questions for you. is there a way to make sure that all the thumbnails are the same size without distorting the images (in the thumbnails). Or if a picture's height is bigger than its width is there to create the thumbnail such that the height of the orginal becomes the width of the thumbnails and vice versa.
Basically I just want the thumbnail pictures to be in a perfect row with all the picture heights the same and all the pic width the same.

, I am having an issue with the Thumbnailing process. My host does not support ASPImage so I have to use something called asp thumbnailer which is similar to ASPImage. I am trying to modify the Dundas upload to automatically reduce the images to create thumbnails. I ripped out the asp image code and replaced with the bottom. The main issue I believe is grabbing the image files. I am not sure how to name the actual image file that is already uploaded by the dundas upload. the code is below:
The peices in red are where the issue is I believe. What you see below is my attempt to identify the exact image and then rename it tthumbnail. My optimal solution would be to take the picture, resize it and rename it exactly what it was named before.

John , I am not sure. I can tell you that I run windows 2003 server and I have never had any issues setting permissions for ASP.NET files and folders. This very server is 2003 and the ASPProtect.NET demo runs on this server as well.
Course, I can't say that I have specifically tried to remove ASP.NET READ permissions on the database folder as it's just not something I would not have a reason to do. Why are you trying to do that? The ASP.NET account needs that permission. If you are trying to stop file browsing and downloading in that folder that is not how you do that. The best way to do that is by keeping the database somewhere else on the server that is not part of the http web. ,
