How do I change the character length for the description field? , I've had an error I saw described here, couldn't figure out what it
was. My SQL statement was being cut off, though a bit differently
because it was created on multiple lines with the amper-underscore
string construction design; my statement had no UPDATE, only started
with the junk screen characters of the encrypted password.
So, from what you said above about the vbNullChar, Chris, it looks like

If you are using ASPProtect Version 7 it is possible because version 7 supports html emailing. In any other version it would require some custom coding to add html email support. You would have to sort it out by experimenting and editing the emailing code. All the email methods have documentation on the web in some form or another showing how to send html emails.
Also,
sometimes depending on the email component being used and the email client reading the email a link in a text based email will get hyperlinked automatically. For example outlook usually will do that, but it doesn't always in other situations.
Lastly, we have special upgrade pricing should anyone want to upgrade to ASPProtect Version 7. It really has a ton of great features.

I'm trying to setup the email functionality and have the following settings:
Email_Component : CDOSYS (Using Remote Server)
Mail Remote Server: the smtp server in my Outlook account
Use SMTP Authentication: Checked
SMTPUsername: the email address in my Outlook account
SMTPPassword: the password in my Outlook account
Email Notification: sales@tradersreports.com
But I get this when I send the request for via missing password info.
CDO.Message.1 error '80040213'
The transport failed to connect to the server.

This is running on Windows 2000 server.

This user showed me his site and things were working for me as they should.
We came to the conlusion that the weird behavior he was experiencing was because he was using AutoComplete in Internet Explorer....
It was automatically filling in the fields with his username/password that he had autocomplete save.
So it was a web browser usage issue.. not the code. cwilliams38165.5102546296, Now that I really think about it.. instead of logging that info to a text file and worrying about folder permissions you could probably just save the post info into an application variable during the paypal ipn.asp post like so

The password "abcdefgh" works
The password "abcdefghi" does not
(username "ace45")
Passwords can obviously only contain up to and including 8 characters... By some coincidence I only used short passwords with MS Access.

Make your connecting string just like in my example.. do not use the oledb connection string either as it will cause other problems.
If you need to find out the path to the mdb file you can use server.mappath to get that info but do not put server mappath in the connecting string. See my article again.
then if the database folder has proper permissions and the path to the mdb file is valid it will work... otherwise you get useless errors, its really that simple.
You also may want to download ASPTest from www.cjwsoft.com it is designed to show a person how to setup a working data connection., Is there a limit to how many access levels the program has? We were thinking of having a different access level for each client that logs on our site so we can customize their web experience. We see 6 in one place of the program, 8 in another, but is there any reason why we couldn't make 100 more?

This error actually does not have anything to do with the forgotten password feature or your database.
It has to do with the settings you chose for emailing.
it relates to aspmail and it not liking the remotehost you used, or something like that.... etc etc , Yes worked fine
thanks , I am having difficulties importing new Users.
I have exported the existing list and then copied in the additional users and save the file as text (tab delimited) in Exel.
When I go to import the file (browse then upload) I get the following error:

If I upload the text file by FTP and then try to import it it only tends to import the first two existing rows.
All collumns match but not sure if I need to add "User_ID". I have added it and created consequecutive numbers.

, Just copy the files over. have permissions set on any folders that need it, and edit the data connection so it's valid for the new server. Once you get logged to the admin area go update all the settings so any urls are valid.
really its no different than a new installation so just follow those directions but use your existing files.

As logn as the old stuff is not accesible on the live internet you don't need another license.
As for my installation fee of 25. That is only for new installations. I charge more for something like that as there may be compications such as custom changes to the code that I would have to deal with. Customers often custimize the login and users area.. etc etc .. and there may be hardcoded urls and what not to worry about changing.
LASTLY, I noticed all your other posts are in the ASPProtect 7 area so the installaton process for that is a bit different than for Version 6 so what I said above is not quite the same process. Please make sure you post in the correct area when asking questions. , There are several pages on my website that a user may go to that are not protected (e.g. home page). If the user has indicated that they want to be saved on this computer (until they explicitly log off), and their 1st entry point is to an unprotected page, how do I determine whether they have logged in before, and extract the info from the cookie / session variables without forcing them to log in or making the entry page protected?
, I am brought to a logon page in which I cannot access the page. This must be due to the check_user_inc.asp include. Without the include I get a blank page. , I just installed ASPProtect on my site. The instructions were definately on the target. Very very good instructions.
But... Isn't there always a but ??? 
I needed to setup my site with MS SQL and it is hosted so I don't have Enterprise Manager. I tried the web based Enterprise Manager and any other one I could find. But, I kept getting errors when trying to use the SQL Script.
I finally had to go back to my work where we do have the licenses and get an SQL Admin to use Enterprise Manager to run the script and it worked finally.
I don't know if this is a common problem ??? But, maybe you would want to look at the SQL Server script or make a different version that would work with the Web Based SQL manager.

I was told by my ISP to use localhost and it should work and it does not. It does not require authentication to send e-mails.

Global.asa files fire on their own and what they do depends on what code is put in them, And here is an even simpler version where the database name is hardcoded and the User_ID is set ahead of time from wherever you are getting it from

post is a common method for forms.. if it is not supported it is something you should ask the server admins about.
Is this a windows based web server running true microsoft ASP because that error is usally associated with non windows IIS based web servers from what I can see by doing a google search ?
ASPProtect only runs on windows servers running IIS and True Microsoft ASP.

, Things have now changed I found out godaddy has persitis aspUPload and aspjpeg as value added products, I have the aspjpeg working but have been unable to upload when using aspUPload, everything works fine with the vbscript method so I think my permissions are correct. Whenever you get a chance, any help would be appreciated.
