Attached is a SQL script to create the ASPProtect Database with the Option Pack Changes already applied. This lets you create the database in one step and you wont have to make the option pack changes as they are already there.
This only applies to people using MSSQL and doing a new installation.
This scripts are run via SQL Enterprise Manager.
You make a new database then run this script on it in query manager.
2004-06-14_180056_aspprotect_w_option_pack.zip cwilliams38152.7522569444, There are 8 Access Levels by default.. they work like this. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=166& ; ; ;PN=1
Access Levels exist in ASPProtect Version 7 for backward compatibilty for customers using previous versions.
Truth is Groups are the replacement for Access Levels and they are much more powerful and flexible. You can also make as many of them as you want in the admin area. http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=167& ; ; ;PN=1
On a side note: We also coded ASPProtect Version 7 so there could technically be as many access levels as you wanted. It's not supported but if you really wanted more Access Levels you would carefully add more Access Levels to the drop down choices when you edit a user. "edit.asp"
I don't know why anyone would want to use Access Levels however when they can use Groups. cwilliams38433.5546875,
I am trying to import a database into my list of registered
users. When I go the import_export_manager.asp page most of the
content is missing. All that appears is the first 2 lines of text
and a box. The rest of the page is blank. I have tried this
under 5 different browsers on 3 different machines and on 2 operating
systems. I also ftp'd the original .asp file with no success. Any
clues?
, you can whatever you like but like I said those gif files are already in the correct place. The log parser is messing up. , Oh also, I tried to run the asp on my machine (win XP) and unless I'm missing something fairly obvious, I cannot get it to run correctly...when previewing it, I see all the code instead of what I should be seeing., I would kile to see more support for the groups function:
1. on the password_admin/default.asp page have a coulmn listing groups
2. ability to change groups in bulk eg change the expiry date for all group x members
Cheers , I would say that it isn't all that difficult using mySQL for the backend....the main thing is to make sure you set the primary keys for auto-incrementing in your database. Alos need to make sure that any DELETE SQL statements are formatted like this
DELETE FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
and not
DELETE * FROM tblName WHERE tblField=SomeValue
The same holds true for using MSSQL , My server is Server2003. I could not find the folder settings you mentioned. I did find a iuser which I added as specified. I retried to perform an upload. Still same message. But it does move the JPG to the picture folder. So, part of it is working. , did you read what this thread says about that session variable for groups not be created by default
you have to add code so it sgets created before you can check it... this thread talks about that, I'll give it a shot within the next day or so. I'm busy with a few other things right now. You're right about just saving a copy before I start. It can't really hurt anything.
Thanks Chris. I'll let you know how it turns out.

, If you still cant see the upload buttons after checking the settings send me a PM with the info and I will take a look at your installation. It will have to be up on a live server of course. , You may be interested in this. I just put it together real quick like.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=454&PN =1&TPN=1 , Hi,
No, only ".asp" files can be protected. It is the nature of Forms Based Authentication when using web based scripting technologies whether those scripts be ".cgi", ".asp", ".php", or whatever.
To protect entire direcotries at once you really need to run your own webserver and use NTFS permissions and user accounts..... or if something special is installed on the server there may be ways to do it as well. That usually isn't going to happen under a shared hosting account but there are special authentication products for such a thing that some hosting companies do purchase and allow their hosting customers to use.
Using aspprotect we do give working examples of ways to stream and partially protect images and downloads while a user is logged in to an ".asp" page.
Also, any ".htm" pages can simply be renamed to ".asp" if you need to protect them. Links to each other need to be updated of course because of the extension change.
In my opinion the truth of the matter is most high end sites use Forms Based Authentication with scripts. Not directory protection as it is fairly primitive/old school as well as sometimes being confusing for the users of the site because of how the login window from the server often gets stuck behind the browser.. etc etc
If you have a lot of pages in a site that you need to add protection code to then if can often be helpful to use a good Multiple file search and replace program to carefully add the protection code to the top of the source code of the pages. There are even multiple file search and replace programs that can rename extensions which can be helpful for large sites.
For images and graphics you want protect you have to do some work and set up and intelligent system for yourself.
Lastly whether you use https:// or not is no concern to ASPProtect as it works the same under https:// as it does under http:// , humm, I see your using the lite version which is technically not supported.
I know you were responding to an existing thread but I really would rather you have posted this in the ASPProtect Lite area or at least mentioned what version you are using. Usually there are big differences in the versions and it helps me help you if I know what is going on.
Regardless, the code for this feature is actually the same and I just tested a fresh install of the lite version and it stored that verify url perfectly and all worked as it should in the verification email.
All I can think of is that you can try manually editing the "users/add_new_account.asp" file.
This part
EmailBody = EmailBody & "New Registration.." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "Your registration still has to be validated." & vbCrLf & "Go to " & vbCrLf & VerifyURL & "?u=" & Server.URLEncode(Request("Username")) & "&v=" & ValidateEmailCode & vbCrLf & "to verify your registration." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf
Would need your verify URL hardcoded into it which would pretty much guarantee it would get put in the email.
EmailBody = EmailBody & "New Registration.." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "Your registration still has to be validated." & "http://localhost/aspprotectlite/users/v.asp" & "Go to " & vbCrLf & VerifyURL & "?u=" & Server.URLEncode(Request("Username")) & "&v=" & ValidateEmailCode & vbCrLf & "to verify your registration." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf
Of course change the url to be valid for your setup.
Still, the fact that this isn't working means there is something wrong with your installation. It would probably be a good idea to erase everything, do an iisreset, and re-install the application in a different directory... immediatly log and go to the settings page, carefully set everything and save it... then register as a new user and see what happens.
There is no reason that variable shouldn't get set. I mean I tested it just now with a fresh install of the version you are using and not only that... 1000's of people have been using that same code for over a year in the full version and no one has had this problem except the guy who started this thread who never populated the value.
My guess is still a problem with your "IIS application" for that web. It is not doing it's thing for some reason. When the settings page is saved and application variable gets set telling the config file to reload the variables as it doesn't do it every time to conserve resources.
If that isn't getting triggered and that variable isn't getting set who knows what else isn't getting set and it's not pratical going around hardcoding 15 important variables., I have sent an registration email (as test) to both a yahoo account and also my own email server and in both cases I get the same issue, all else is working great. I am sure its somthing simple, perhaps I am over looking somthing else. the site url is www.rochestertek.us/asp/users/register.asp if this helps
Again thanks. , Did you see this thread. It shows how to set up the project in Visual Studio in detail.

, Permissions and Folder Locations
By default and to keep things clean we store everything in folder called "data"
That folder then has it in 4 sub folders
database (where the .mdb and temporary .ldb files are handled) export (where the aspprotect export files are saved) logfiles (where the aspprotect logfiles are saved) user_pics (where the user pictures are saved)
Doing it this way makes it very easy for a system administrator to right click on one folder and set permissions for that folder and all of it's child folders.
Now, that being said.. you do not have to use these folders.
For example if you already have a folder in your web with modify permissions for the anonymous webserver account then you can use that one folder to store all of the 4 things above.
You'd simply edit your data connection string to point to that folder and then edit the other paths in the settings area of ASPProtect.
We did it that way so you would have options in case your hosting company was being difficult with your ASP hosting needs. cwilliams38403.6837962963, Please be more specific. What hit count are we talking about ?
User Logging ? Albums ? Something else ?
Please descriube the situation in detail. There are really no settings for any sort of hit count. , Well you can put a link on all your pages that links to the login page?
modify the code in the login page so the return page is members.aspx or
whatever you need and thats it?
I dont see your point? probably because I understand how the program works and your not 100% up to speed on how it works.
,
My hosting company uses ASPEMAIL - and I am trying to setup the mailing settings on ASPPROTECT - but cant seem to get it to work. I've tried many different options - here are two that are the closest - but have issues:
1. If I use the settings:
email component: aspemail
Mail remote server: my internal server name
*no smtp authentication
email mail notification - my email address on my internal server
***I get the following results:
I can get get notified when a new user logs in, email a user from aspprotect user screen if they are in my company and have a valid email -- but I can not send to the outside world - I get an relay prohibited error.
2. If i try to change the setting to use the Hosting Website email server - I get the following results: I dont get notified when a new user registers, I cant send to internal company people - but I can send to the outside world.
**any suggestions on what to do? I'm trying to work with the people who manage the mail servers - but since I dont know anything about them - its a bit difficult.
The relay error is because when you send emails outside your email domain smtp authentication is required.
I suggest trying to use CDOSYS with the smtp authentication option. CDOSYS is on all servers by default and is really the way to go. Use a real email account and password to send the emails through the server. Be sure to check smtp authentication for cdosys and to specify all that info for your email account and password in the settings screen.
If you want to know about CDOSYS read my article. http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/sending_email_cdosys.asp , I made the changes like you suggested, but now the page just times out before even loading.
<% ConnectionString = "DBQ=D:\clients\rklarman\DrWeisbergUsers.mdb;Driver={Microso ft Access Driver (*.mdb)}" DatabaseType = "MSACCESS" %> , This may be an old question ??? If it is please point me to the post or documentation where I can find the answer please.
When creating protected pages I am using the following to protect them:
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="/aspprotect/check_user_inc.asp"-->
But that is not working. I get the following error when I try to access the members logon page in the directory that I wish to add the pages to:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0130'
Invalid File attribute
/filelocation/filename.asp, line 3
File attribute '/aspprotect/check_user_inc.asp' cannot start with forward slash or back slash.
However if I create the pages in the root of the AspProtect directory and use a link to the same page that exists in the AspProtect directory and the following include:
<%@ LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" %>
<!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"-->
The pages work fine.
I really do not want to put all of my protected pages in the root of the AspProtect directory.
I would like to mix protected and unprotected pages throughout the site in order to #1 make it easier to administer. #2 keep the AspProtect directory solely for authentication. And, #3 keep any user authentication pages out of the AspProtect directory.
TIA

, When I add a user, I can not activat it.
What do you have the registration type set to in the settings ? They wont be activated automatically unless you have "automatically" selected ?
It sends me back to log on and will now allow me to log in as admin???
I am not quite sure I understand ? Seems to me like that would be normal because you can always log in as the admin at any time. If you cant log in as the user you just signed up as that could be for a couple reasons relating to the registration type you have slected in the settings. There are 3 types all epxlained in the settings screen. Some require manual activation byt the admin, some involve a registration email.. etc etc
I can restart the APP and log in as Admin, but the user I added is still not activated??
How and why are you restarting the applicaton ? Please explain what your doing there.
My system will also not allow me to set the Stay Loged in FLag. It just ignores it....
As I told you in an email earlier cookies must be enabled for authentication to work. You mentioned now you can not log off ? I am not sure I know what you mean by that. I assume you know to close all browser windows when testing things like this and I assume you know you have specifically log off and confim it in order to remove the remember me cookie and have to log in again when you return to the site. , Upgrade from V6 to v7.x with an MSACCESS DATABASE
1st of all, backup your existing ASPProtect files and database before performing this upgrade. Please be really careful while performing this upgrade. Version 7.x is a highly advanced application compared to any previous versions. CJWSoft under no circumstances is responsible if you lose information or have website downtime.
BOTTOM LINE: (PERFORM THIS UPGRADE AT YOUR OWN RISK)
To do this upgrade you're going to need to have the Microsoft Access Application. To work with an Access .mdb file it can not be newer than the version of Microsoft Access you are running.
That being said, on with the upgrade..
Open you're existing Acccess Database up in Microsoft Access.. You should see this something like this.

By right clicking on then choosing rename Rename "Users" to "ASPP_Users" Rename "Groups" to "ASPP_Groups"
If you do not have a "Groups" table do not worry about it right now.
Now right click and DELETE the Config Table. Yes, delete it..
You should now see this. (with or without the "Groups" table)

Now, right click on "ASPP_Users" and go into design view. It should look like this.

Rename the "Password" field to "Old_Password" Be sure to spell it perfectly using the Underscore It will look like this.

Now scroll down to the bottom a bit It should look like this.

Now..
If you have a "Groups" Field... leave it alone If you do not have a "Groups" Field add one and make it a memo field.
Now, we are going to add a few more new fields.
Add a field called "Redirection_URL" make it a "text" field with 150 field size Add a field called "PayPal_Subscriber_ID" make it a "text" field with 100 field size Add a field called "Newsletter" and make it a yes/no field Add a field called "Password" and make it a "text" field with 100 field size
It should now look like this. (you do not need to worry about the field descriptions.. that part is optional and only seen when working on the database)

Now close that window and save the changes..
Your now going to open up another Access Database while still leaving the one you have on your screen open. You going to open up one of the new databases that came with v7.x. This database has some info we are simply going to copy and paste.
You'll want to open it and put it side by side on your desktop like so. (the old database is on the left.. the new one is on the right)

Now, for the fun part.
On the new database to the right.. right click on the "ASPP_Config" table and pick "Copy"
Then move your mouse over to the old database on the left. Right click in the open white area and click "paste"
It will ask you for a database name. Type in "ASPP_Config" Leave "Structure and Data" checked and hit OK
Your old database on the left should now have a nice new "ASPP_Config" table.
OK, now for the "ASPP_Groups" table
If you already have a "ASPP_Groups" table in your old database you are done.
If you do not have one your going to copy and paste the table from the New Database to your old database just like we just did with the "ASPP_config" table.
Your old database should now look like this.

Now, you are done upgrading your database from within Microsoft Access.
The existing passwords still have to be encrytped and moved from the "Old_Password" to the "Password" field
To that we have a special page we run in the application that will take care of that.
So, for now... go install the application, but using the database we just created. Follow these instructions for the most part... http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=181& ; ;PN=1
When you get to the part where you finally get into the admin area and need to make an admin account you will notice that your existing user database is there but none of the users have passwords if you look at them in the edit screen.
That is normal. Simply do what the instructions say and create and admin account using a username that does not exist..
Then log off... then back in as that new admin account. If that works you are ready to convert the passwords.
This part is very easy.
You want to run a special page via the browser.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
Once you get the page running you will see a login prompt and one form field just like before with the "get_me_in.asp" page
You will need to paste the "PasswordEncryptionKey" value that you used in the "config_inc.asp" file in the form field and hit enter.
If all goes well you will see a page telling you to click here to encrypt the passwords and copy them over.
So do what it says... dont click more than once and wait.
Eventually it should say it is finished. So go log in to the admin area of the system using the new admin account.
Now edit some users but dont save... you want to see if the passwords are showing up. If they are the conversion worked. If you see nothing or a garbled mess it did not work and you made a mistake during this whole process.
If things went well backup and delete the conversion file below.
http://www.mysite.com/password_admin/convert_to_encrypted.asp
You do not need it anymore.
Once you are positive every thing is running smoothly and everyone's passwords are ok you can go in and delete the "Old_Password" field as well.
If things didnt go well.. try again from scratch and go slowly. If they still dont go well get ahold of us for help.
We are here to help, but if you really want us to we can be hired to do the conversion. , Hello,
While there is no option in the admin area / asp code we give you here is what I can tell you.
You have the source code and we also use an open database structure. (MSAccess or MSSQL) So that means you can really run any query you want on the database whether with ASP code or directly in your database. You can even tie other systems and code into the database via OBDC and manipulate data. The sky is the limit.
In MSSQL you can run queries in SQL enterprise manager or query analyzer. Using Access you can run queries in query view.
It's really not that hard if you do some research on SQL Statements and how to use them. You can do some very powerful queries and save yourself a lot of time. , Will do!
, Regarding (ASP Photo Gallery Pro)
If you are looking to import a very, very, large number of images, the upload feature might not be sufficient for you. I have done some work using a unix terminal to be able to upload as many images as I would like by simply placing the images in the directory and renaming the images. There are other ways to rename the images, but I am very familiar with Linux, so I chose to do it this way. If you are running Linux, MacOS, or another Linux-based OS, you can simply pull up a terminal and run the following command in the appropriate directory. If you run Windows, I'd suggest CygWin, which creates a Linuxenvironment (Linux shell). It can be found at www.cygwin.com In order to be recognized by the ASP software, the images must be in the format of pic_"Album Number"_"Picture Number".jpg . Therefore, the following code is run to accomplish the file name change (on one line without wordwrap):
ls -1 DSC* | sed 's/DSCN//g' sed 's/.JPG//g' | awk '{print "mv DSCN"$1".JPG pic_9_"$1".jpg"}' This command will change all files beginning in "DSCN" to "pic_9_*Picture Number*".
This does have a slight problem however. If there is a large number of pictures, 0's become a problem. For example, if there are 200 pictures, picture 1 will show up as pic_9_001.jpg. This can be fixed by the following command, which will eliminate unneccesary 0's (All on one line once more):
ls -1 --color='never' pic_9_0* |sed 's/_0/_/g' |sed 's/pic_9_//g' |sed 's/.jpg//g' |awk '{print "mv pic_9_0"$1".JPG pic_9_"$1".JPG"}'
This command eliminates 1 zero. It should be run as many times as needed to eliminate all zero's.
Please Note: These commands will only show the resultant set (The list of picture names). In order to execute them, they must be output to a shell script using the ">" character as follows:
ls -1 DSC* | sed 's/DSCN//g' sed 's/.JPG//g' | awk '{print "mv DSCN"$1".JPG pic_9_"$1".jpg"}' > temp.sh
Then, the shell script must be run using the following command:
sh temp.sh
This might take a few moments, depending on the amount of picture names that are being changed.
IMPORTANT: BACK UP all files before changing file names. Also, view the resultant sets to make sure it's what you want before outputting to a shell script.
If you have any questions, please feel free to post or e-mail me @ JPortnoy@checkernet.com cwilliams38210.5703009259, Hi,
Ok, well... you have a lot of stuff going on there.
More importantly than that.. you cant even log into the admin area using the admin account. There is something majorly wrong with the installation.
I also notice you havent even saved any path settings in the settings page of the admin area. I am looking that over now and filling in the missing info. That information needs to be populated. , When I enter www.vickerylightning.com/aspgallery/dataconn_inc.asp on the screen it says "Not a valid bookmark"
as far as that goes I have no idea.. I have never seen that message before but you are not suppose to run that page by itself regardless.. it is an include file not meant to run on its own , I did all that you sugessted and all failed, you said "I did a sign up.. your verify URL is not saved/set in the application variables. is this somthing I can change manually? below are the steps I performed......
1 - made sure the web is it's own application in IIS
2 - Reset IIS in command promt
3 - Restarted the server, the only thing is I have not waited perhaps long enough for it to kick in. but it should have with the restart.
I am running windows 2003 on the front end with wondows 2003 and Exchange 2003 on the back end, is there anything else that may be causing this issure?
Thank you!
Matt...
, Have you thought about language file so users dont have to go into the code to put it in their language?? , I had some issues with passwords not working. I cleared them up by
going to the affected user and typing in the desired password manually
on the edit screen. Worked like a champ every time, and I haven't had
to do that for some time now.
, Hope the wedding went well. I have one this weekend.
I was successful at performing an upload. The free upload software was either not configure properly (probably) or not working. I downloaded the trial version of softartisan's upload (which is like over $300) and it started working.
Can more than one photo be uploaded at one time (like a whole folder full of photos) or does each have to be done individually? , good news.. like I said it is probably becuase aol blocks emails sent from IP's with no MX record in the dns system , Does emailing work under the simplest scenario ? (directly from the users screen)
Thats the way to test it..
All that error means is whatever reason the settings you have chosen are not working. It could be the server. It could be what you chosen. (and yes I realize your pop info from outlook should probably work with the settings you chose)
Whenever I do installs I often have to try 3-5 different emailing scenarios before I come across one that works.
Each time making some changes and sending out test emails from the users screen until I get somewhere. Often time getting a working example of how your Hosting Company wants you to send email from ASP is the info to get your hands on. (what method and settings)
In this case they may have blocked the usee of a remote server and want you to use some other settings for sending email from asp. A lot of times they put that info in their help system.
If I were you I would start by trying the other two CDOSYS options for starters, and then try the remote server option again but using "localhost" as the server, if none of those work consult your host for example code and settings to send email from asp. If you still have no luck I can help for sure.
Realize too when testing the emails may take a bit to arrive. A delay of sorts. Best to type in a quick note about which method you are trying in the email text. That way when you finally get one delivered you'll know which method worked. , The links to view that info are on the main users screen of the admin area.
Down below...
They wont show up unless you have that stuff enabled in the settings screen as well.
, When did you download the ASPProtect Version 7 zip file ?
what did you enter as a wrong password to make that happen ?
does it it do it when other wrong passwords are entered ?
cwilliams38452.722037037, dsn-less is the way to go.. http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo9-2.htm
you also need to use newer versions of the database as the odbc drivers on the server are sometimes very new and no longer work with access 97 databases
, One problem that is appearing is that in the admin section, in the users.aspx page, only one user is showing up when there are in fact 9 users. Also, when I click the edit user or email icon, the page does not go to the edit screen, it remains on the same page.
Also, I’ve been trying to modify the code to adapt it for our application -- by removing fields that we do not need such as address, city, state, phone, but I am having trouble getting visual studio to compile. It could be due to the fact that the rest of the project is in C#. Or it could be due to some other factor in ASP Protect. ,
