Hey, I thought I'd share this tip with the ASPProtect community...
If you'd like to remove, modify, or add fields to the "Users" view in
the password_admin default.asp page, it's really easy to do. Well, at
least it was for me. I'm using an MS Access database, by the way.
For me, I don't need "Company" info, but I do need last access and # of
times accessed displayed. Therefore, I had to change the default page
in three areas:
In /password_admin/default.asp, go to about line 185 or so, where you see stuff like:

OK, those are the column headings. Each one corresponds to a column
from your USERS table in your database. There are two more areas to
consider, both of which appear immediately after this section.
The next section has statements that look like this:

See the "First_Name" items? The first is for an ascending sort, the
second for a descending. This particular line corresponds to the code
snippet immediately above it. But all this does is handle the sorting.
For the actual data, look lower for this stuff:

It's a good ways down, so don't be impatient if you don't see it in 10
lines from the end of the last mentioned section. This stuff handles
the display of the data from the database (where else ya gonna get
data, anyway?)...
Now, to remove a field, you need to find the three sets that go with
that data. The ascending/descending sort is potentially the trickiest,
because it's the longest set of data and can take a number of lines.
Just clear it from the start td to the end /td and you'll be fine.
To *add* a field, copy and paste the code from an existing field and
modify it. In the first one, the column title, you can type whatever
you want to describe your info. Nobody but you and your admins will see
it. For the next two sections, though, you need to get the correct
column heading from the USERS table and use that to correct the lines
in the copied code you pasted in.
For example, when I added a column to show the number of times a user
logged in, I copied the above snippets and pasted them in where I felt
the column I needed should be. Then, in the first one, I changed "First
Name" to "Logins". In the ascending/descending snippet, I changed
First_Name to Counter. Same for the last snippet.
The result? A new column, showing the number of logins my users were successful with.
Of course, before you experiment, back up your existing default.asp file, JUST IN CASE.

, I've encountered another problem. When i edit the link for existing banners and save it, the banner reverts to the old link instead of the new one.
The directory where the the database is located to rwed so the permissions is not a problem.
Any advice?

seems like the process should be fairly similar.. you'll have to figure it out
I am going to order a copy of it., I have noticed that during the file import, that some of the pictures get messed up. I can import aroun 150 pictures into different albums, say 3 albums with 50 each.
I have noticed however that some of the get messed up. What is happening is...the thumbnail will be correct, but after you click it the picture that shows up is one form a different album.
Any cure for this? , Not without changing a lot of code. If you didn't want encryption you really should have went with version 6. Encryption is a big new feature of Version 7 and it is inter-mixed with it the code in a lot of places.
As for doing the export and import you have to create a valid export file and then read through this very thread which explains how to import an export file with clear text passwords.
This is from the admin area regarding the text file format
The import/export file must be tab delimited with no text qualifiers. The 1st row containing field names and the following each being a new user. To create your own import file it must be in this exact format. To find out what field names and their order are simply create an export file using ASPProtect and take a look at it.
Generating an import file from your own database requires good knowlege and understanding of Access's Importing and Exporting functions. It is not something I cover as the process is different for everyone and not really very hard. , I have accessed the "get_me_in.asp" page and entered the password encryption key. Once I entered it, I was taken to the ASPProtect Admin Area Login. It does not give me the option to create a new user as is described in the general installation documentation. How do I access the program now?, 1st off, what application is this in reference too?
This question should be under that application's area in the forum.
2nd, really need more information and details. There are many ways and methods to send emails and they can all effect what gets delivered and what does not. All on an email server side of things. (I always recommend using the CDOSYS option using SMTP authentication with a real external email that has valid MX records) see my article...

3rd, your not telling me how many users we are talking about. ASP is not a very efficient way to send emails and extremely large amounts of users should be sent emails in a different way then from an asp application. It is just the nature of the technology being used. Some of different emailing methods the application supports may or may not give you better results. It is really best to experiment though honestly the option I mentioned above is always the best in my experience.
4th, if you are not getting a timeout or a scripting error than the ASP part of things is making it through the amount of users. You have to remember that often time emails that get sent out from web sites end up in junk filters for whatever reason. That is just another fact and why it it is usually best to send out serious newletters using a stand alone application like WorldCast or something.
I am doing a lot of guessing here because you really did not tell me much. I also still am not sure what application this is in reference to as 3 of my apps have newsletter features of sorts. , Is there anyway to limit the number of Albums each user can make? , also, from looking at your site your ideal scenario would be a system that allows you to show all banners in one zone at any given time but in a different order.
ASPBanner is just not that sort of system. It is only designed to show one banner at a time from a given zone in random order., The way the application ships there are no password confirmation areas anywhere ? Please be more specific as to what you have done and if any mods are involved ?

Even though they are not supported I look them over pretty closely and I know of no issue like you mentioned so I would suggest re-downloading the MOD. Perhaps you got a corrupt download or file. , whether you use SSL or not really does not effect aspprotect in any way
I say, the smart thing to do there is too not start them off at a http:// url
one way to do it is put a simple ASP redirect on that default page and send them to an SSL version of the page instead...

in my opinion thats pretty odd to be starting them off on a protected page anyway
SLL maybe, but protected right from the time they hit the default page of the site.. thats just odd.. usually you want o say a little something about the site your at and then link people to protected areas or give them a login form which posts to a protected area.
Regardless if you always want users at your site under https:// you should have code on every single page in your site checking the url info at every page load. Then if someone ever hits a page and is not using the https:// you can do something about it like redirect them to the SSL home poge or redirect to that same page but with the https:// in the url.. , Sounds to me like you got some bad databases or something. Or your trying to open a database with too old of a version of msaccess.. not sure
Everything is stored in one database. And yes there is more than just the users table.
Also, removing the "temp" password should be a piece of cake.

I don't see any good reason to rename any of those files.
Changing them though may involve changes to the code recompiling, etc etc... it is not something I support. , If you have found out that parent paths are disabled on the web server you can still use the application.
Before you continue.
If it is your server consider enabling parent paths to solve the problem.
If it is not your server consider asking them to enable parent paths for your web site to solve the problem.
If that is not possible please download this zip file.

The following folders each have a version of all the files in the ASPProtect system that might need to be edited in case you need to change the paths for the server side include files. There are 3 different scenarios.
(parent paths enabled) - This is the way the application comes.
The files in this folder have FILE server side includes containing "../" information. While these includes will work when the applicaion in is any location of a website they will not work if parent paths are disabled on the web server. Generally you will want to use these on your xp development machine. You can of course use them on your real server if parent paths are enabled. Parent Paths are now disabled on II6 by default and some hosting company will not enable them.

These includes only work when the applicaion is installed in the root of your web domain. For example if your domain was called "www.somedomain.com" the following aspprotect files and folders would end up like this

I start a new browser, and again that my same user name and password is in that window., Is the user ID case sensetive? In my case I use the user email as the login ID., I have multiple zone banners displayed on a single page using the AspHTTP Component Method.
However, in IE 6.x and NS 7.x each banner has some text displayed before it similar to:

I can login for the first time. I exit from the browser and then I cannot login again. This happens for every user.
I noticed that the values in the fields "Login_limit" and "Active" in
the ASPP_Users table in the SQL changed to NULL and 0 when login and
remained in those values after close the browser.
If manually I change the values it is ok but the problem repeated.

I am beginning to wonder if you unzipped the download correctly because I see things in folders they should not be in...
you should have ended up with a bunch of folders and files...
It you just ended up with a ton of files in one directory you did not unzip the zip file correctly... if so check your zip program settings.. I mean that error is because it is looking for a file in the skins folder that isn't there and it should be there
better yet, unzip the downloaded zip file using windows xp built in unzipping features which will do it correctly... , We can't seem to find the purchase emails for this install of ASPProtect.

We noticed it should have been v6 of ASPProtect.

Nick , When adding a new user I am taken to a form.
There are several "required fields".
First and last names are 2 of them.
This is not needed by me and I need the company name as a required field instead. I work and deal with company names, not individuals.
So, i am unable to add any users due to this.
How can I either do away with the names as a required field or swap the individual names with the company name as a required field?
I have customers wanting to be able to view their own stats, but I need to do away with the required fields to work with my customer base.

I dont really have any ideas about the japanese characters. I also don't have any ideas about changing settings in the database. Your going to have to do some research on all of that.
Perhaps try pasting the text into a text document 1st.. then copy/paste them into the application. Perhaps that will eliminate any unseen weird characters. I do it sometimes when pasting things from word to my html editors and it works great.

I dont/cant support custimization to the code but here are some tips to get you started.
edit "items_inc.asp" carefully with a text editor
(back it up before you begin so you can revert back)
change this anywhere you see it
?SORTBY=Name
to
?SORTBY=Name+Asc
or
?SORTBY=Name+Desc
Expiriment to see which gives you the desired sorting.
Do the same process for the price.
The + Sign just passes a "space" back to the page in the proper format if you are wondering.

The items for page setting is easy. Just go to the settings page when logged in as the admin. Edit this field. It would prob. take you minutes as its been taking me hours  , one thing to note... the time period we are talking about is going to to be whatever you have the session timeout set at in the settings.
perhaps making that value lower like 10 minutes is an option for you.. and might help to deal with situation

Nick , I have written asp.net application pages- obviously i knew what viewstate was, or else when they made a mistake on that page it would not have saved their filled in info. Same thing for after they submitted, when they hit the back button their info would be gone.
For someone who wrote this software it seems you are not able to do simple things. Im begining to think you didn't write it. The only reason no one else asked this many questions is possibly because they didnt NEED the functions i am TRYING to do.
I know how the log boxes work. Esp. reg ASP... they all allow you to enter your username and password and then when you hit submit it gets verified and transfers you to your destination. ASP.NET has that capability also.. i didn't purchase a program to go and have to re-write it in visual studio. It would take me longer to re-write YOUR code than it would to have LEARNED ASP.NET and made MY OWN.
The program seems to have some great complex features, however, your not able to incorporate this easy login from a diff. page function... fishy , Well, I had no more trouble after I read the instructions.
The PayPal integration is really neat stuff! WOW! And the email
users function got up and running in a snap... this is an awesome
package!
The coolest thing with the user registration is that the account
username and password are selected by the user. That is very very nice.
Much less typing for me to do.

Thanks for your help. Wish all business' had customer support like here , You really can not do something like that. You can not use client side code to change a server side session variable.
To make changes server side a form must be submitted or a link clicked on to another page. Then you can do whatever you like but you cant have an onlci event update a session variable like that.
Though I am not sure of exactly what you are trying to do I think you'll need to go about things a little differently.

When I type in www.vickerylightning.com/aspgallery/default.asp I get the custom 404 error page and I noticed that it is trying to open the following:

, that's they way it should be done..
the only other thing would have been to test everything with sql before trying to import any data.. and make sure all was fine at that stage
more info on the errors would be helpful.
Id' also carefully visually compare the SQL tables and fields with the SQL scripts and make sure all field types and settings got set correctly.
Also, make sure the user accessign the database has datareader and datawriter permissions of course. , Yup, thats the problem I was having. I can get it to work if I don't do through the dl stream, but otherwise it prompts to save or open it instead of loading it in the browser.
I did read the change on making the content public instead of private so I think that will work for know...
, If logfiles do not get created it is most likely one of 3 things
- invalid physical path specified
- permisssions
- filesystem object is disabled on the server
that path doesn't look correct to me for a live professionally set up server but only you or your server admins can know that for sure
you will not get any errors when things arent perfect.. just no physical logs
RecentActiveUsers and RecentPageRequrests are not related to the stored logfile feature.. Recent Activity is a different thing ,
