My server is Server2003.  I could not find the folder settings you mentioned.  I did find a iuser which I added as specified.  I retried to perform an upload.   Still same message.  But it does move the JPG to the picture folder.  So, part of it is working. , Can you be more specific on the javascript I should look for? Can it be combined with ASPBanner?,

((TITLE EDITED BY ADMIN))

it would be nice if there was an option for login abuse, where a login account would be flagged if it logged in from x number of different IPs over a period of time. I know many have dynamic IPs, but there's got to be a balance between legitimate logins and logins that are 'shared' for the sake of saving money (I sell subscriptions), in the end costing me.

Maybe searching the first two number groups in the IP (example, 209.168.*.*), and if finding more than an admin specified number of logins per week from IPs with different first two groups, the record would be flagged or locked...

,

Okay, this also shows at the bottom of the import/export page

I've got the IUSR account with modify permissions on this data folder as well.  Is the "this directory needs change permission" line just a general reminder?

Files are being stored in "D:\missourirealtor.org\members\aspprotect\data\export\\"

This directory needs change permissions for the anonymouse webserver account.
Those permissions can only be set by your hosting company.
These features will not work without those permissions being set.

, still.. its got to be somthing along those lines.. I have seen times when even dbo didnt have full rights to a particular database so permissions should always be manually checked..

The import data routine is most likely the source of the trouble

For troubleshooting sake I would create a fresh installation from scratch using the sql script we provide and a new SQL user. Then see if that works. If it does then try to import your data into that.

There are no other things I can think of doing. Sometimes you just have to start with a clean slate. , also, just to show you what happens when a user creates a subscription this is the code. you can see in red where the subscrition is is set and also where the exp date is set to null

 If txn_type = "subscr_signup" Then

  Set ConnPasswords = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
  Set CmdEditUser = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
  ConnPasswords.Open ConnectionString
  SQL = "SELECT " & tbl_label_users & ".* FROM " & tbl_label_users & " WHERE (User_ID = " & User_ID & ")"
  CmdEditUser.Open SQL, ConnPasswords, 1, 3

  CmdEditUser.Fields("Active") = "1"
  CmdEditUser.Fields("Validated") = "1"
  CmdEditUser.Fields("PayPal_Subscriber_ID") = subscr_id
CmdEditUser.Fields("Notes") = "Successful PayPal Subscription Signup on " & Date
  CmdEditUser.Fields("Expiration_Date") = Null

  If Access_Level <> "" Then
   CmdEditUser.Fields("Access_Level") = Access_Level
  End If

  If Groups <> "" Then
   CmdEditUser.Fields("Groups") = Trim(Groups)
  End If

  CmdEditUser.Update
  CmdEditUser.Close
  Set CmdEditUser = Nothing
  ConnPasswords.Close
  Set ConnPasswords = Nothing

 End If
,

OK, I updated the server with the SP 8 Jet updates and this had no effect.

Then I loaded the asptest file and put in the correct path. The results were:

Failed: Database could not be connected to....

Error reported from server:
Error source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers
Error number: -2147467259
Error description: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x784 Thread 0x854 DBC 0x2101014 Jet'.

,

I would kile to see more support for the groups function:

1. on the password_admin/default.asp page have a coulmn listing groups

2. ability to change groups in bulk eg change the expiry date for all group x members

Cheers

, say ?

How do you like LiveSTATS.xsp V7 ?

Looks pretty sweet but the pricing is just too much for me to justify as I am very happy with smarterstats and I host a lot of sites now.

I used to use Livestats 5  back in the day when we had a 50 domain license where I worked and hosted my sites.  I liked it a lot then I tried the version 6.2 that they had for a while and hated it. Version 5 still runs well on 2003 server but it has such outdated search engine information that it isnt worth using. cwilliams38324.8862847222, Is there somthing I need to change in the settings to get the hit count to update?, I really need more information..

SQL or Access database ?
If Access are you using the newest version of the .mdb file

Is this a new item ?

Show me your connection string ?

perhaps the url to the site as well so I can look around?

things like that that will help me troubleshoot.

If any info is sensative send me a PM..

, Can I suggest you have changed a code to stop this or you have a privacy software stopping your visits to add 1 to the counter. Has anyone tried to visit the album or just you. If you send me the link I can sus it out for you, And here is an even simpler version where the database name is hardcoded and the User_ID is set ahead of time from wherever you are getting it from

'User_ID = CmdListUsers("User_ID") ' getting it from another database query
User_ID = Request("User_ID") ' getting it from the page post

SELECT COUNT(Album_ID) AS Alb_Count FROM Albums WHERE User_ID = " & User_ID & " AND Album_Active = 1" cwilliams38433.0595949074,

I have been working on this all night long. I have been reading every possible article. I have created an ODBC connection on the server.. which i have never done before? Still nothing. I looked at the machine.config file... i read about impersonating whatever the hell that is... I am really stressed out. I have the 1.1 framework installed.

I read about dsn and dsn-less connections. Is there another way i can connect to the database? Without using a username and pw maybe?

,

If you run asplistings auto in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.

And you run your other version of ASPListiings in its own folder with its own application in IIS. Connected to its own database.

You will have zero major changes to make to anything... other than what you did above..

But remember theyare the same app and share a lot of thing including sessions and application variables.. that is why if they are installed in the same domain each one needs its own application set in the IIS console so they run seperately of one another.

cwilliams38312.5189814815,

Access to some sections of the forums must be requested.

cwilliams38291.6121296296, The PayPal feature that is in ASPClassifieds has always been labeled as experimental and has never been supported as the documentation says. About a year ago I stopped even mentioning the feature on the product pages or in the live demo because I didn't like how it worked and I decided I would just market the application as a free based classifieds. It’s just not something I can support or talk about. To work really well it really needs to be coded to use PayPal IPN and a credit system. Where ads and various extra features cost so many credits and people have to buy credits before they can post any ads.

That’s about all I can tell you. It's just not something I support.

,

Also.. if you want to customize each person's experience individually it really does not make sense to use groups or access levels for that purpose alone.

I mean, why bother making a group or access level for every user and worrying about keeping track of it all when you can just access the available session info about the user to create dynamic pages specific to that user.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=198& ; ; ; ;PN=1

That is why that information is there.

You can of course use some combination of the two technologies as well should you have groups of users that you want to have a slightly different experience.

cwilliams38433.6259606481, that information is actually not helpful in determining whether parent paths is enabled or not.

You should really ask your hosting company or better yet try doing a server side include to page one directory up and see if you get an error.

example

<!--#include file = "../myfile.asp"-->
cwilliams38302.6484259259, aspprotect does not use a global.asa file

I would start by looking there and seeing what is going on ... with line 33

I dont see how it could be related to aspprotect in any way

Global.asa files fire on their own and what they do depends on what code is put in them,

this error really does not mean anything specific

Your browser must support a standard called RFC 1867. Please check with your browser vendor for support of this standard"

If you get an error its real weird that the file is being uploaded.
Generally if you get an error during upload it is because of one of these 3 things

Invalid physical path specified

Unsupported upload method chosen

Permissions

See my article on XP and permissions
http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_xp_pro_and_permi ssions.asp

many people dont do their permissions right on XP Pro and that article covers everything

,

I just installed the software, but I can't find any place where I can see when users logged in, can someone please tell me where I can do this?

Thanks

,
Yeah, its working great witht he Access database. Now I just need to get it all set up. I like how the config file is set up with all the comments, it really helped allieviate the 40k thumbnails, .

One quick question though, and I haven't looked through all the code yet... Is there a quick way to have pic_window.asp open full screen by default? I just want to minimize having to either scroll through, or maximize, the screen

Thanks!!!

, I tried the iFrame method that you have shown, and it works great!!!!,

You can also try setting asphttp's user agent property to some browser version like in this example. It might stop that info from showing up when it fetches a page from the server.

<%
Dim BanObj1Http
Set BanObj1Http = Server.CreateObject("AspHTTP.Conn")
BanObj1Http.UserAgent = "Mozilla Compatible (MS IE 3.01 WinNT)"
BanObj1Http.Url = " http://banserver.powerasp.com/aspbanner/aspbanner_inc.asp?Ba nnerZone=1"
Response.Write BanObj1Http.GetURL
set BanObj1Http = nothing
%>

Also... I dont know if these values below will work but I got them from looking at my nt logs.

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)

And here is more info on the asphttp component and it's settings.
http://www.serverobjects.com/comp/asphttp3.htm

cwilliams38248.6481365741, new version is still not finshed as of the end of the year... I am not going to release it until I feel it is ready.,

There are 8 Access Levels by default.. they work like this.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=166& ; ; ;PN=1

Access Levels exist in ASPProtect Version 7 for backward compatibilty for customers using previous versions.

Truth is Groups are the replacement for Access Levels and they are much more powerful and flexible. You can also make as many of them as you want in the admin area.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=167& ; ; ;PN=1

On a side note:
We also coded ASPProtect Version 7 so there could technically be as many access levels as you wanted. It's not supported but if you really wanted more Access Levels you would carefully add more Access Levels to the drop down choices when you edit a user. "edit.asp"

I don't know why anyone would want to use Access Levels however when they can use Groups.

cwilliams38433.5546875,

I am in process of upgrading from v6 to v7.  I have made database changes, can connect to database and get in to Administration area just fine.  However when I go to create a new user I get the following error

ADODB.Recordset error '800a0cc1'

Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.

/password_admin/save.asp, line 227

Thanks

,

I'm using the groups protect feature on my pages. None of them seem to close the session after clicking 'logoff'. I can tell because if I hit the back button and return to the group-protected page, hit 'refresh', the page refreshes, I'm not asked to log in again.

On the other hand, when I open a page that's protected by an access level and click 'logoff' (uses same logoff asp file to logoff), it seems to work fine - if I go back a page and refresh, it asks me to log in.

Just wondering - is anybody else having problems like this? Maybe I screwed something up in the few adjustments I made a while back. Any idea what it might be?

, You would have to carefully edit the asp code in the "add_new_account.asp" file. It you look that file over with a text editor it is pretty easy to see where the text to edit is.  Just make sure you edit it in the section for the email component you are using. Back the file up before you make any changes to it so you can revert back if you mess anything up., Will purchasing an additional license resolve the issue which will allow another installation or is this a function of the application that it can only protect one site per server?,

Where is the system getting the random user name and password, and why does it keep selecting the same user name and password every time?

,

OK, well, that error is pretty self explanatory really. There isn't anything else it could mean.

What you showed me in that screen shot all looked correct, but still permissions to that file just can't be correct. The paths are correct. The path to the file looks correct. The ASPNET (ASP.NET) account looks correct.

I would try settings permissions directly on that XML file. Perhaps child permissions did not go through the way you intended. (the advanced tab must be used for that) If that doesn't work try giving ASPNET and Everyone full permissions on the file directly.

Possibly check the paths in the web.config file just for the heck of it.

Last case scenario, you can edit that XML file directly instead of using the screens in the application. Of course if that file does not have correct permission chances are other things like log files will give you issues as well.

That is all I can think of right now.

,

Is there an easy way to make this work with reoccurring a monthly or yearly subscription?

,

sorry your having so much trouble. A good host is a must.

Yes, that is most likely permissions related.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/moreinfo27-1.htm

You may want to read over my article on how permissions are set. It will give you a very good understanding of the process and may help yo when dealing with your hosting company.

http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_2003_server_and_ permissions.asp

there is also an xp pro version of the article for people doing locl development and running iis on their xp box

,

Some users have reported an error during the registration process.
Here is what I believe is happening.

When you register you get sent a validation email that has a link in it that looks something like this.

http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum//activate.asp?ID=testAD3AD2 97BC

That link can only be clicked on once which will activate your account.

If you somehow run that link more than once you will get a message telling you there was an error.

I think some people are double clicking on the link they get sent and running it more than once.... or clicking on it again after registration is complete. It probably happens very fast so they never see the success screen.

Either way, if you can login to the forum nothing is wrong and you are already activated.

cwilliams38089.6248842593,

Hi Chris,

The hosting company has been doing some work apparently regarding the database connection issue. Still something is funky

When I type in www.vickerylightning.com/aspgallery/default.asp I get the custom 404 error page and I noticed that it is trying to open the following:

http://www.vickerylightning.com/skins/default/settings.asp

Is that what it is supposed to do?

Thanks!
Rhona, the rookie

,
I am having difficulty properly securing pdf's using 7.x
I used the example file and have been able to secure images and word docs, but the pdf's give users the error "There was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found."

The kicker -- it works fine on my computer, just not anyone else's. I put a link up to the same file without any security and that works on everyone's computer. The word file links and redirects work too. I've tried my log-in on other computers, then attempting to download the pdf and that doesn't work.

The client wants a site where users must register before downloading pdf's. They should be able to view all the pages without registering.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. But I can't complete the site until this issue is resolved.

Help appreciated.

,

Sorry Chris,

It didn't fix it.  Looks like I had the current code.  I bought the system in mid-April.  The version says 3-10-2005.

I do know that in the database, the password shows as " éG"  but in the error code, it shows as " éG".  The square character is missing.

Thanks,
Mick

Edit: well heck.  It skips the square box here too.  The password in the database puts a square box in front of the éG

, Windows 2000 server you said ? Just checking on that one ?,
