We want to insert a hyperlink i the mesage area when we e-mail users from the Password Admin area. Is ther an easy way to insert the hyperlink so when the user gets the e-mail, they can just click on it and go the the page we want them to?
Thanks,
Andy cwilliams38456.0983101852, i will probably end up doing this myself, but dropping all the log data in a sql table would be nice as it offers much more flexibility on how an admin can keep track and use the data. Browsing through each log file is very inconvenient. I can search for text in the files (server-side, others with a shared server would probably have to separately download all log files first), but with the current method I don't have the following important options:
- cannot sort by any criteria
- quickly see a list of all login attempts by a specific user (i need to search each log file individually for this info)
if you had an option during setup perhaps (or elsewhere) in a future version that allowed an admin to specify the preferred logging method (separate files or a table in sql) i'm sure many admins would find it very useful to have a database alternative of keeping track of users becuase it would offer the two benefits listed above, plus more. ,
Flash files cannot track clicks unless you edit the original flash file to link to the aspbanner system redirect URL.. feeding it the correct ID of the banner.
When that link is clicked on it will then track the click and redirect the user to the “link url” specified for that banner.
The system actually generates the necessary ASPBanner URL for you. That link is shown on the banner edit screen.(you must save the banner at least once and come back to that screen to see the link though)
Really the best way to show it is with an example as seen below.

Basically the flash banner file "powerasp.swf" highlighted in green needs to be edited to link to the banner redirect url which is highlighted in red.... the banner redirect url will then track the click and ultimately send the user to the Link_URL highligthed in blue.
All banners systems work this way when it comes to flash files. It’s the nature of flash and the web browser,
The flash source code must be edited to link to the redirect url in the ASPBanner system. There is no possible way any banner system can track a flash click unless the flash file links to the banner system 1st.... because that click is handled by Flash and the web browser.
In some cases if you do have the original source file for the flash banner then you are out of luck as far as tracking clicks goes.
On a side note... if you create flash banners the way this article says you can actually feed a .swf flash file a link for it to click to. Instead of it being hardcoded.
http://www.macromedia.com/resources/richmedia/tracking/desig ners_guide/index.html
This is really the way everyone should design their flash banners from now on because the url it links to can be easily changed at any time without editing the flash file source code. cwilliams38325.740162037, yes, like it says it is expirimental
turn it off.. the banner system will run just as fast for the most part
or leave it on and an occasional user will see a permission denied error where a banner will be, perhaps the filesystem object is disabled on the server ? or some sort of script blocking is running and causing a problem ?
other than that I can take a look if you put it up on a live server.
, Ok, if the link to the import/export screen does not show up its probably because you never put the import/export path in the admin settings?
go check that for me.
cause running that page without a path for the files could cause a timeout.. thats why the link doesn't show if the path is not entered (so people won't run it)
it looks sorta like this (there will be a field to fill in which wont show here)
Settings below specify the physical directory path of the export directory. This is used by the system when using the import/export feature. The export directory needs modify permissions for the anonymous webserver account. |
ExportDirectory |
| the path must be valid for your file structure and it must have correct permissions (when creating files) , Hi, we purched ASP Protect a few months back and had it installed on our hosting company under a "temporary" domain name -- cidrasensors.com
We are now about ready to switch this development site over to production and I need to change the domain from cidrasensors.com to cidra.com
My hosting company wants us to create a new accounting and re-set everyting up.
So...based on this, I have a few questions for you:
1. Do I need to re-install the software? or can I copy from one account to the other?
2. Assuming I can copy the software to the new account - are there changes that will need to be made to point to the new domain?
3. If I decide I wanted to keep the first account alive for development purposes (never turn on the website domain to the public) - would I need to have a seperate ASP Protect license?
4. If I decided to ask you to do the transfer for us - is that covered in the $20 Installation fee I saw on the web?
, Yes, that was it! I had not created the banner for that zone yet. Once I did it came up fine. Do I win the Bonehead of the Year award?
I am just implementing the product, and I deleted the included zones instead of renaming them. That is why it is up to 6. I am migrating banners from my current system before I implement the code onto my pages.
If I may, I'd like to ask another question. I use rotation on all pages of my site except for the home page, where the banners are all smaller and static - an advertiser can expect their banner to always be in the same spot on the page.
I am currently hard coding this via html, but then I do not have the ability to collect stats on home page banner clicks, so I want to use ASPBanner. My question is, can I do this without creating a seperate zone for each banner? In other words, is there a way to modify the html code (that works just fine) so that in addition to indicating the zone, it can indicate the specific banner I want to appear? I would then paste the code in each cell of the table, and alter the banner #. If I do this with just the zone, I expect that the page will randomize the position of each banner across the page. You can see what I'm talking about by clicking here: http://www.PoconoCommuter.com/
Thanks for your help! , recent activity infomation is temporary and mantains itself per application start up.. when the web application restarts for whatever reason the info is reset
a reboot, an iisreset on the server, application pool restarts, etc etc this is done because if that info was saved in the database your database would get huge real quick
logfiles however do not do that and are permanent , I would kile to see more support for the groups function:
1. on the password_admin/default.asp page have a coulmn listing groups
2. ability to change groups in bulk eg change the expiry date for all group x members
Cheers , When I go to set up a new user, my user name and password are already in the window. And I am un-sure why. I start a new browser, and again that my same user name and password is in that window., right..
I had to open up the permissions to get it to work. I now have to go back and uncheck each one for directory listing.. :)
, The Double DIM needs to be removed for this code to work properly.
<% Dim BannerZone, BannerConnectionString, BannerDatabaseType, ConnBannerSystem Dim CmdCheckUser, CmdGetConfiguration, App_Name, Config_SQL, BodyTag, BanDataConn Dim CmdBannerTemp, CmdGetZones, ZoneString, ZoneArray, ZoneIndex, CmdUpdateWaiting Dim CmdUpdateExpired, CmdRetrieveImpLimitedAds, CmdRetrieveImpressions Dim CmdUpdateImpHit, CmdRetrieveAds, CycleBannerTotal, CycleList, NewCycleList Dim Dim LoopBanner, CycleLoop, CycleListArray, CycleListArrayIndex, BannerCycleData Dim Banner_Array, CurrentBanner, NewCycleListArray, Banner_Array2, LocationIndex Dim Stop_Processing, Keep_Processing, CmdUpdateStats %> , Sorry, you cannot, that is how it works and that is how it has to work for reasons I am not going to try to explain as it is pretty technical. (it works the same way even when not using paypal and using email authentication... nearly every registration system out there does it that way under an email authentication scenario or a PayPal IPN thing.)
Basically, if you are concerned about it you need to periodically manually check for accounts that were never activated and delete them. Maybe when I get some time some day I will make a little interface to help find those and clean them up at once.
, I swapped a few emails with CJW regarding support for ASPMail.
This application works with this software. I host my site with a
private hosting company named 'Intermedia.net' and this is what I had
to do to make this application work.
1 - Change email settings to 'SASMTPMail' installed
2 - Find all instances of the following code:
If ASPMail_Installed = true then
&nbs p; Set Mailer =
Server.CreateObject("SMTPsvg.Mailer")
Else
&nbs p; Set Mailer =
Server.CreateObject("SoftArtisans.SMTPMail")
End If
Change this code to simply:
Set Mailer = Server.CreateObject("SMTPsvg.Mailer")
3 - that was about it. The files that I needed to change are:
/users/email_password.asp
/users/add_new_account.asp
/gallery_admin/approve_album.asp
/email_friend.asp
I believe that's all i needed to change. Any questions I'd be
happy to try to help out. [CJW -- for some reason i needed a
restart on the server, it's all good now
http://www.iphotosite.com/galleryapp/default.asp. I'll be putting
in a redirect for that location/domain later today.

, They really have do not have anything to do with each other as far as code and numbering goes, but I really do not fully understand your question or where you are going with this. (the part about the user setup ?)
Groups are more powerful than access levels and are meant to replace them. Access Levels are only there for backward compatibilty with older versions. , Okay, here's the problem. The out of the box sql script creates a catalog called aspphotogallery and a user id aspphotogalleryuser.
The out of the box GalleryConnectionString tries to access a catalog called aspgallery and a user id aspgallery
'*** GalleryConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=p600laptop;Initial Catalog=aspgallery;User Id=aspgallery;Password=temp;"
I see the readme.txt has been corrected but the line in dataconn_inc.asp still needs to be changed. lancem38325.9032986111, If you still cant see the upload buttons after checking the settings send me a PM with the info and I will take a look at your installation. It will have to be up on a live server of course. , ok.. There are various spots that call the end_date variable. That is why I am asking. Then incorporating it into the forms that have been developed, made me wonder.
, ok, it works fine here with that password encryption key and password you sent me. I also looked in the database and I got the same encrypted password password which definetly has a weird hidden line break in it. (for example if you copy and paste it only the 1st part shows up like when you pasted it above.. as it is really the same length as the that guys email address)
Maybe you do not have the newest code. (I added some code to check for those weird line breaks and take care of them) I am going to PM you the latest version. Please download it and just take the "check_user_inc.asp" file out and copy it into your existing install.
Then try logging in as that person again.
If that works you should also grab the new version of "password_admin/check_admin_inc.asp" as well, Some users have reported an error during the registration process. Here is what I believe is happening.
When you register you get sent a validation email that has a link in it that looks something like this.
http://support.cjwsoft.com/forum//activate.asp?ID=testAD3AD2 97BC
That link can only be clicked on once which will activate your account.
If you somehow run that link more than once you will get a message telling you there was an error.
I think some people are double clicking on the link they get sent and running it more than once.... or clicking on it again after registration is complete. It probably happens very fast so they never see the success screen.
Either way, if you can login to the forum nothing is wrong and you are already activated. cwilliams38089.6248842593, Post a request in the "custom code work" forum. Perhaps another customer will want to do the work or help you out with some code.
I am just too busy to do any custom work for quite a while.
, it might.. I might be wrong though as I guess that could still be an issue with access not being able to keep up.. and then the xml parser just isnt getting the page it is requesting in time, The protection code for my group3 is:
<!-- Begin ASPProtect Code --> <!-- Groups with access to this page. ( * GP03 * ) --> <% GROUPACCESS = "3" %> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="check_user_inc.asp"--> <!-- End ASPProtect Code -->
btw - sorry but I am using v7 and thanks for the assistance , ok, that is what you are suppose to do... not having that path info set can cause all sorts of trouble., Thanks dude, I'll figure it out. I've been ripping apart pieces
of the code to get it. I'm in the process of pulling some things
out to make functions that do specific tasks based on your code.
I actually had a lot of luck yesterday with it.
, My site is composed of mostly asp based pages with some javascripting thrown in, but a fair amount is strictly html and javascripting. Currently I am using the javascript banner method throughout the site.
You have mentioned in the past that several other methods might be a better option for asp pages.
Examples would be: XML Parser Method or asphttp method.
I was wondering if it is possible to use the javascript method on my non-asp pages and maybe the asphttp method on the asp pages and all in the same Zone?
Or, is it possible to use the asphttp method on all pages, whether they are asp or not?
I'm just trying to figure out what is the most efficient way to use the banner system.
Or maybe should I just keep it all javascript method?
Any helpful feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks.

, Can I have the logon be in a top frame while having the protected pages displayed in a main frame?
Also, how will it behave if a user moves in between a protected page to a public page and back to the protected page again?, Editing using Visual Studio.NET
Here are directions for editing the application using Visual Studio.NET 2002 or 2003 version.. either should work
Some of you are wondering why I didnt just give you the project files. It is best you go through this process and really understand what is going on. Also, I dont use VS 2002 so I wouldnt be able to give you project files that would work with that. Not to mention there is 100% chance my prject files wouldn't work for you anyway because of path differences and other things.
Anyway.. on with the instructions...
1st.. make sure IIS, ASP.NET, .NET Framework, and Visual Studio.NET are all installed correctly and up to date.
Open Visual Studio.NET
File - New Project
Select a New Visual Basic ASP.NET web application.
give the new web to be created a name.. I called mine "aspprotectdotnet"

Hit Ok..
Now. once the project opens up we need to delete a few things in the solution explorer window.
So delete "webform1.aspx" , "deletestyles.css", "Global.asax", "AssemblyInfo.vb", and "web.config"
Basically all the files under the project...
Now... you should have the aspprotect.net files unzipped somewhere on you hard drive...
open that folder and select all the files and folders like so

Now drag those selected files and folders to the solution explorer window of Visual Studio.NET right on to the name of the web. In my case "aspprotectdotnet"
It might say this folder already contains a folder names Bins.. just tell it to copy over and continue on any prompts like that.
You'll notice your project is now populated.
Open up the references tab in the solution explorer window as we need to add some references to the dlls in the bin folder of this project. This is needed so the compile process and function correctly.
Right click on references.. click add reference Then browse....browse on your hard drive to the location of the new web and the bin folder within it.
In my case... "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectnet\bin"
Choose "aspprotectlicense.dll"
Hit open...
Now do the same thing again until you have added all the dlls in that bin folder to the references..
Now.. click add-references again and this time choose "system.management" from the choices in the .NET tab
Once all of that is done your references should look like this

Now in the Visual Studio.NET menu system up top..
Choose Build - Build Solution
If you did everything right you will see something like this in the build window
------ Build started: Project: aspprotectdotnet, Configuration: Debug .NET ------
Preparing resources... Updating references... Performing main compilation... Building satellite assemblies...
---------------------- Done ----------------------
Build: 1 succeeded, 0 failed, 0 skipped
You now have the visual studio side of things all set up.
To make the project actually run we now have to set some permissions and edit the web.config file.
Using windows explorer browse to the web the app is in. Right click on the "_database" folder and give that folder and all the child folders within it. Modify permissions for both the Anonymous webserver account and the ASPNET account. These accounts might not show up until you dig into the advanced tab and click find now to show all the accounts on the machine.
Permissions screen looks like this...

Once that is done go back the solution explorer window in visual studio.
Open the docs folder.. right click on "sysdiag.aspx" and choose view in browser.
It should complie the project again.. and then run that page in either the internal or external browser depending on how you have that set up.
That page will report back path information. "BTW.. for security reasons this page should be removed from any production server after installation is complete.. this is very important" In my case it looks like this.
Probabale AppRootPhysicalPath c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet
Probabale AppRootUrlPath http://localhost/aspprotectdotnet
Probabale Path to Access Database c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet\_database\aspprotectnet2 002.mdb
Now we need to edit the web.config file... your going to need to know some of the path information above.
In solution explorer double click on web.config.
Now edit the AppRootPhysicalPath, AppRootUrlPath, and CN keys accordingly.
In my case they will look like this.
<!-- PATHS USED BY THE SYSTEM --> <add key="AppRootPhysicalPath" value="c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet" /> <add key="AppRootUrlPath" value="http://localhost/aspprotectdotnet" />
<!-- MICROSOFT ACCESS KEY --> <add key="Cn" value="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq= c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspprotectdotnet\_database\aspprotectnet2 002.mdb;Uid=admin;Pwd=" />
Now.. because our web is really not in the root of our virtual directory which starts at "inetpub/wwwroot" we need to edit another tag in this file.
Find the forms tag near the bottom.
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />
Change it to say this
<forms name=".aspprotect~net" loginUrl="/aspprotectdotnet/aspprotectlogin.aspx" protection="All" timeout="60" path="/" />
Notice tha part in bold that we added.
Now, you may also want to check the temp license key info while you are in that file and make sure it is not expired but I am not going to get into that here.
Now save and close that file and do a compile again.
In solution explorer open up the "aspprotectadmin" folder. Right click on default.aspx and click browse
You should see the login prompt in your web browser..
Log in with
admin temp
all lower case
You should see the users screen of the application,
Click on the system info tab up in the top left... make sure all those paths are correct and save it.
Go to the settings page of the admin area. Make sure all those paths/settings are correct and save it.
Congratulations... you just set up a visual studio web project from scratch and our now ready to edit and compile an advanced web application.
From here on your on your own, but feel free to ask questions in the forums as you will probably get help from myself or others who own the software.
One last thing... because we are not in the true root of the web on the development machine the examples in the example folder will need the reference to the "protectpage.ascx" file modified before they will work
It will need to go from
Src="/protectpage.ascx"
to
Src="/aspprotectdotnet/protectpage.ascx"
If this app was installed in the true root of a domain on a real webserver.. you would not have to edit the forms tag in the web config file or change the paths in the examples as they would be correct the way they came , I got ya. Well hey, that's what's great about the iframe right? , Hello- I am trying to install the ASPPROTECT product and tried to read all the docs but still am getting the following error:
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x1980 Thread 0x1458 DBC 0x223c374 Jet'.
I understand about the physical path for the DSN-less connection and followed the example given. I got in touch with tech support for the host of my site and the give me the following as a physical path:
c:\sites\Single20\laptv1\database
Some observations:
1.- The database directory is outside the root dir but I think I am accounting for it with the path
2.- The permissions are ok
Any ideas?
Thanks
FP
, yes, any page you want protected needs to be edited..
You can probably have a login box on a non protected page. Just copy the generated source html form code for the login box of a protected page. Then put it on your non-protected page, but change the action to the page you want them to log in to.
In other words go to a protected page. See the login box, view the html browser source and use that to make your login form on the main page.
I have not tried it with .NET but I am pretty sure you can do it since it pretty much works the same as the classic asp version of ASPProtect.
try it.. see if it works.. If I have time tommoro I will test it out., I really do not know.. maybe it is a conflict with something else..
I run many instances of aspbanner on my servers and I have every item to log enabled for my iis log files... my stats server software which reads those log files (livestats and smarterstats) have never reported any 404 errors related to (aspbanner/those images)...
I do not know what is happening in your situation..
sorry. , Hi,
1. Two months ago, we have set up to use the Subscription services exclusively for all new members and renews. and removed the regular payment service, a carry-over from v6. 2. Many from the "pre-subscription" service have yet to expire, thus have a populated expiry field. 3. With a 10 month bridge before we get all the members onto the Subscription service the "Send email to users that are soon to expire." is used to remind these. 3. When members RENEW using the subscription service, the Expiry Field is not Nulled and they become targets for future reminders although they have renewed as Subscribers.
XYZ signed up on Nov. 05 2004, we send him a reminder in Oct 2005 and he renews as a SUBSCRIBER. His expiry date field is not nulled and he will keep getting notices although he has paid for another year.
Hope this is clearer... Thanks
, OK, thanks.
Nick , I am testing this now and there is something wrong.
PayPal is hitting the ipn.asp but the database is not being updated.
I will figure it out shortly though and post the anwer here. , I just installed the software, but I can't find any place where I can see when users logged in, can someone please tell me where I can do this?
Thanks , (Password_Email_Confirmation_Mod) for ASPProtect Version 7.x
This will change the basic registration pages so that the email address and password entered must be confirmed when signing up. This eliminates the auto generated password during signup.
Some may prefer it working this way.

Directions: Back up your existing ASPProtect installation.
Copy the two new files into your "users" folder
"register.asp" "add_new_account.asp"
2005-12-01_182201_Password_Email_Confirmation_Mod.zip , question 2 is answered best here
http://support.cjwsoft.com/code/code_info.asp?TID=319&KW =paypal
I should also mention that the paypal scenarios used in ASPProtect can not be tested using PayPal's sandbox. Also test using two real PayPal accounts and on a live setup. (You'll allowed two paypal accounts)
then you can log into the other and refund the transctions and of course it makes sense to use low amount like 1 cent and what not.
Also, I'd love to see what you came up with with the integration. I have been working on it here as well and took it in a different direction as I plan to sell directions for it as an add-on for aspprotect. I have it all working here but so far I dont see an easy way to let other people do it as I had to change things in both systems in a lot of places. Utimately if done under a SQL environment triggers should be used at the database level and that is another consideration.
, Got it. Thanks Chris!
