It appears there is an auto logout after inactivity for a period of time. How does one change the default time allowed for inactivity?
thx , the txt file is only lke 624 kb...so I'm not sure,
all I can say is try other things... like
mail.yoursite.com
or
smtp.yoursite.com
etc etc etc
replacing yoursite with the name of your domain of course
the settings for sending email via ASP are no different then the settings you would use in outlook or something... except sometimes on the server level localhost works as the email server because they set it up to allow that
and of course those 3rd party emailing components need to actually be installed on the server , Hi,
Could you please advise what may be causing this error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x57a4 Thread 0x5474 DBC 0xf03a704 Jet'.
/ASPProtect/check_user_inc.asp, line 292
Funny thing is that if I refesh the page with the above error it gives me the following eror:
/ASPProtect/check_user_inc.asp, line 292
and after few times of refreshing the page it shows me the page I am after.
Is this my promlem or ISP's.
Thank you , How do I recover or reset admin password used for the aspprotected pages. I have installed it months and months ago, but now can not recall the password. Any help appreciated, as I do not feel like installing it again. , Very weird for sure but I guarantee no code in ASPProtect is deleting that folder. Something else is going on the server and deleting it and I have no idea what it would be.
Maybe try leaving a blank text file in it and see if the folder disappears after a few days., ok, that probably means the physical path you have set for the logfile directory (in the admin settings area) is not correc t
the error pretty much means just what it says
, Hello,
I think you’ll definitely like aspbanner. It's very easy to setup and use and it should work great with your portal.
You’ll have banners rotating in no time. All you have to do is add banner calling code in your pages where you want the banners to show. There are enough methods that you will definitely find a few that work well for you.
BTW, there are actually 7 methods now as we have a new one. Information about it can be found in our ASPBanner support forums cwilliams38455.9049884259, I just got home from a lonnng trip.. I will try to answer this 1st thing in the morning.
CJW, sure (XP PRO), see my article on that
http://www.powerasp.com/content/new/windows_xp_pro_and_permi ssions.asp
, ok, here is what is going on
you are password protecting an ".asp" page that requires querystring info to run correctly (example - "somepage.asp?ID=3"")
that is something I never intended anyone to do.. while it does handle and repass the querystring info along during successful login it does not re-pass that info during a failed login as you have found out
this is all by design.. the only reason the system re-passes the querystring info at all is because I wanted to make it smart for the sake of the remember me/cookie feature.. so if someone was using that and bookmarked a page deep in your site with querstring info...then when they went back to that bookmark they would get authenticated and still see the page as intended with the querystring info in tact
it was a nice feature never intended to handle any situations other than what I just described...
now... notice the url in the browser after failing a login.. then logging in successfully.. it is missing the querystring info
that more than anything is what is going on.. browser caching can cause some confusion when dealing with this because the browser likes to return you to the page minus the querstring info... when that happens a simple browser refresh at that time may very well solve the problem and then you see the page you are supposed to see...
To avoid all of this...
One solution to this is to always start people logging in to an ".asp" page that has no querystring info. That way this won't happen. Once they are logged in you can then offer them links to the pages they need to go to. (you of course still want to password protect those pages)
Another solution is to log them into a page with no querystring info and then do a response.redirect to the page with quersytring info.. thus accomplishing the same thing but without the possibility of the issue because of a failed login.
Another solutions is to do checks in your asp page for missing querstring info.. and if it isn't there do something about it like send them somewhere else.. or display a message about there being an error... etc etc
So,basically you don't want to tell people to login into such and such page with querstring info... and providing a username and password..... You can do it but like you found out it can cause an error if they mess up logging in the 1st time. The system just was not designed to handle that. There are complex reasons for that involving security that would just take me too long to explain.
I hope this makes some sense to you.. it is very hard to try and explain , Can you incorporate a secure log in within the scripting. I would like the account information to be secure without having to have the whole site using running through a secure (https://) path. If this is possible, the scripting is perfect! , do you have the url path to the registration page set correctly in the settings cause not having it there would do that ? , I was able to get it all figured out. Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it. I ended up copying the database with the password to the directory and used the user/password connection code and it works great. I believe it was related to that but I cannot be sure. Thanks again! , while technically that shouldnt be showing that with two slashes that is actually valid and will not effect whether that feature works or not.
so if you are getting an error that is not the reason.. as far as windows is concerned // is the same as slash in that scenario?
what is your error? I need details. Like some code and an error at a line number ?
99% of the time it is permissions and sometimes it is related to the filesystem object being disabled on the server or script blocking software such as norton antivirus , recently i've been getting a lot of unspecified errors. i've been running aspbanner for about a year and a half now. i don't know what would have caused all these problems. also, for some reason it won't maintain my log-in, ever time i got from page to page or try to submit a form it asks me log-in again.
Jason S. cwilliams38389.8791550926, As an update to this thread I fixed the "upload_post.asp" page quite some time ago but forgot to post the updated file here.
So here it is.
2005-09-16_165913_upload_post.zip , did anyone find a way to get the descriptions to show under the image yet?
, Chris -
Long time no talk, which is a good thing. I have purchased another product from you, ASPVendor. I am running into an issues.
When I try and remove the image through the image manager, it does not remove it. Screen shot attached.

The 2Checkout Support Pack which is built in to ASPProtect 7 contains all the pre-built scripts you need to implement 2Checkout Payments with ASPProtect. You must be using version 2 of the 2checkout system. They are phasing out version 1 regardless so everyone will be using version 2 very soon if they are not already.
THIS IS NOT INTENDED OR DESIGNED TO USE 2CHECKOUT SUBSCRIPTIONS. (see bottom of this thread for more info on that)
This Support Pack basically gives you an additional signup and registration directory "2checkout_signup" and it should not interfere with any changes or customizations you have made to your ASPProtect setup in general. New users can register in this directory and pay for membership at the same time. Existing users whether active or expired can be sent to this directory where they can lookup their account and buy additional membership time online. You can also assign various Access and Group Levels during signup and you can set up various prices for various amounts of time as well. This is a real-time setup for the most part. As soon as a user pays via 2Checkout your system is updated and they will have access.
The 2checkout pack is NEW.. and was released on March 19, 2005. If you don't have it and would like it please just ask.
To start using this edit the "2checkout_signup/2checkout_config_inc.asp" file
You will be entering your 2Checkout Account number in that file as well as the URL you want a user to go to after payment. It is all commented in that file. (There is also a testing variable you can set to True if you want to do testing without real charges being applied)
After editing that file run this page.
http://www.mysite.com/2checkout_signup/show_postback_path.asp
Replacing the part in blue with your website info.
It will report back that postback url you need to use in the 2checkout system.
Log into your 2checkout version 2 account and under the "look & feel section" enter that postback url for both the "Approved URL" and the "Pending URL"
Trust me: You want the URL there for a pending URL because the 2Checkout system is quite random and 95% of the payments that come in go to the pending URL and end up being legitimate sales. (at least for me they do)
Now make sure the Direct Return option on that page is on as well.
If set to Yes buyers will be immediately directed to your URLs below once they click the Complete Order button. If set to No the buyers will have to click a button to return to your URLs below. |
>> |
Save that page... and leave 2checkout.
| Now, delete this page from your ASPProtect setup. http://www.mysite.com/2checkout_signup/show_postback_path.asp
It's a minor security risk and is no longer needed needed.
The basic setup is finished. All you have to now is set up payments options the way you want them.
Changing Payment Options
In the "2checkout1.asp" file there are form options set up.
They look like this and you can have as many as you like.
<option selected value="30,9.95,3,">30 Days, 9.95</option>
In this option... A user has the option to purchase 30 days for $9.95 and he will be set to Access Level 3 when payment in completed.
Here is how it works.
The value setting (red) is essentially and array that can be made up 4 elements separated by comma's They must be separated by a comma and there can be no spaces. In this example the 4th value was not used but the last comma must still be there. If you didn't want to set an access level and left out the "3" there would 2 commas at the end. etc etc Basically there must always be 3 commas but you only have to set the 1st 2 values which are days and price.
days,price,access level,groups
The 1st value is the amount of days. The 2nd value is the price for the amount of days. The 3rd value is the access level you want to user assigned to. The 4th option is the groups you want the user assigned to. (see PayPal subscription thread for examples of specifying group info)
Now, the label for the option in (blue) can say whatever you like. , ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Operation must use an updateable query.

I am getting this error message when trying to log in as admin or registering a new user. I am using Windows Server 2003 and it is a DOMAIN CONTROLLER.
I have read that there is NO ASPNET account for a domain controller. In its place is the IIS_WPG account. I have given this account and the IUSR account FULL CONTROL.
STILL GETTING AN ERROR. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? , I moved the password check file out of /user and am getting this message:
Microsoft VBScript compilation error '800a0400'
Expected statement
/asplog/check_user_inc.asp, line 404 End If
^ Is this a standard database connection error so I should ask my IIS to make sure permissions are correct? Thanks..! , ok, I moved this thread..
The code in the ASP application handles all encryption and un-encrpytion of passwords in the database. I uses the vbscript RC4 function and the password encryption key specific to your installation to do this.
The whole idea is that if someone gets your database and opens it up that they will not get the passwords (utilitiies to crack access databases are common and work well so they can easily get by the main password)
That being said when you open the database manually your not supposed to see clear text passwords. Your also not supposed to have an easy way to make them clear text. It's a security thing.
Though I am not officially supporting it I will tell you what I think would be the easisest way to make an export file with clear text passwords in it.
Use the export fire creator in the admin area of aspprotect. Mosdify "export.asp"
change
Password = CmdDataExport("Password")
to
Password = RC4(CmdDataExport("Password"), PasswordEncryptionKey)
Then make an export file and see if that worked. you can then import the export file into and access database or do whatever you like with it.
, ok, Can you be more specific on the javascript I should look for? Can it be combined with ASPBanner?, Need to clarify something..
Your talking about the page where a new user registers right ? Your not talking about adding a new user from the admin area ?
Either way under no circumstances do I see anything like you are saying happening nor has any other ASPProtect user ever mentioned this probem.
I am going to need to see your site and see this happening. It just makes no sense the way you are describing it.
Also. did you edit the registration page code in any way. If so please revert back to an original copy to ensure this is not some sort of problem introduced by editing the code. cwilliams38164.8115046296, actually, looks like its 8.95 a month now for a pretty slick plan http://www.alentus.com/hosting/valueplan.asp, Hi Chris,
The password is HANNAH. If you're into trouble shooting mode and would like the key, I can send it to you. If not, no big deal, I've email the guy a new password. We'll see how many rounds it takes him to get it right.
Thanks, Mick , Chris,
Thanks for the reply. It all makes sense.
I have gone with your first option but here is the problem:
I have moved the password protected page from the detail page with the
querystring to the straight .asp page. This obviously fixes the
previous error.
Once someone has logged in they are then presented with a list of links
to the previously protected pricelist detail pages (example -
"somepage.asp?ID=3""). They are then able to access the pricelists.
The problem is that if someone copies the pricelist URL they are then
able to pass it on to someone else and bypass the password protection.
If I also password protect the pricelist pages then someone will have to login twice.
Is there some code that i can add that will simply check that they have
logged in otherwise kick them back out to the protected .asp page.
All code in your documentation tends to open the login page regardless of whether you have previously logged in.
Thanks,
Stuart
, Access Database Password
By default all of the Access Databases we give out have a default password of "temp"
The Default username that and Access database uses is "Admin" but you should not be concerned with that except in your connection strings.
The default password for the Access Database can only be changed using Microsoft Access to do so. If you have security concerns it would make sense to change the password. The help system built into Microsoft Access best explains how to do that. cwilliams38403.6820833333, Just installed sofware everything works fine except I see no way to upload any photos. There is no reference or link to allow an upload on any of the asp pages (I have surfed them all). I am sure it is something simple, but I am not aware. I am using SQL2000., not anything built into the app... it would be done with client side javascript if you wanted to look into it... my client side javascript skills are ziltch, that's they way it should be done..
the only other thing would have been to test everything with sql before trying to import any data.. and make sure all was fine at that stage
more info on the errors would be helpful.
Id' also carefully visually compare the SQL tables and fields with the SQL scripts and make sure all field types and settings got set correctly.
Also, make sure the user accessign the database has datareader and datawriter permissions of course. , Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Even though I have a big disclaimer that the account is totally
worthless without someone paying to activate it, the new IDs keep
coming, about 3 a day.
, ITS WORKING
...I have earned a beer (dont tell anyone im underage) , I disagree...
It would be 20 hours + of conversion and testing. Maybe more.
Like I said, I converted a version fo ASPBanner once to work with MYSQL. It took forever to change all the code (2 weeks of messing around) and get it working. There were also a lot of issues with null values in the database, ado update code that had to be rewritten, cursor type issues, recordcounts not working, etc etc that had to be sorted out. There was a ton of situations where things seemed to be working but later on I noticed there were minor bugs to deal with. It was a lot of work.
ASP Photo Gallery has a ton of asp pages. It is a much larger app then ASPBanner. If you convert it to work with mysql I highly doubt you could have it running well with less than 20+ hours of work. I wrote the app and it would at least take me that long and there would still be bugs at that point.
If you think you could your not used to my style of coding and don't realize exactly how much stuff needs to be rewritten.
Granted, you could get some of the basics running off mysql in a few hours or less but there is just so much little stuff that would give you trouble. cwilliams38243.9065277778, Hi,
ok, I am a bit confused... you make it sound like as if you are running a different version than you were when you ordered this a couple/few weeks back... that confuses me because you were able to log in to the admin area of aspprotect.net before? weren't you ?
there have been no changes to the download or the version in quite some time ?
I guess I need more information to make any sort of guess at this point. I do not know enough., [QUOTE=cwilliams] Is that a real term or just something you named it cause they have like a zillion people using that SQL server?[/QUOTE]
yeah thats it, you buy into a part of the sql server so it's an sql server hotel... , Hello,
Unfortuantely I can not help you much regarding the javascript because I am a server side code kinda guy. Client side javascript just isn't my thing. That was free javascript code that I used for that function. I really do not know enough about editing client javascript. Sounds like you might though.
Style 1 is really a relic left over from the standard version. I just left it in in case someone wanted to use it. Like I said because it is javascript making it do more than it does is tricky (at least for me)
Now,, for actually getting description code. The thing to do is check out how that all works in the pic_window.asp file which is what style 2 two uses. Bascially descriptions for an particular album get stored in one text file. We read that test file. Put the lines into an array. Then display the info which gets run through a functions to convert some special characters used when saving back to normal.
I tried to look at your site but it woulnt load for some reason.
cwilliams38420.0809259259, Really awesome, thanks..
If possible please be sure to respond to the email they send so the review ends up authenticated
